I know he has been public enemy no. 1 on this forum for a while and many of us have slagged him off every time he took to the field, but I think Parker is getting the best out of him at the minute

Playing in a different formation and utilising his runs in behind the defence is benefitting us on the counter which gives us another dimension. One that we have been missing for a couple of years, mainly due to Mitrovic playing up top. I know there are plenty better players out there in this division than Cav but it's great that we are seeing some more positive performances from him.

Got in some good positions today but really needs to be more clinical in front of goal. I know he's not an out-and-out striker, but he had a couple of chances that he sent straight to the keeper.

In particular, when one-on-one with Alison today, his final touch before shooting took the ball away from goal and narrowed his angle dramatically, making it an easy save in the end.

Agreed he was overall was much better, and hopefully will continue to improve, but he's got to work on being more productive and not squandering good opportunities.

think he was trying to get it onto his right, and thats why he took it wide. was screaming for him to open up his body and and curl it in with his left
CHRIS MARTIN IS SO BAD,  WE NOW PRAISE HIM FOR MAKING A RUN.

Begs the question can Cav adopt BDR role and BDR play alone upfront?

General

I'm at odds and reluctant to criticise Cav as if I compare him to knocky, or watch the effort he put into the game I think he has technical ability and puts in a shift for the team BUT, having just watched the highlights back again I can't help but notice the bad judgements he has been making in the 1-on-1's he had and then the other opportunities he had in the box.

Perhaps he's low on confidence, or trying to hard to score himself but he's just lacking the awareness and calmness in the final third for me and perhaps that has its own knock on effects too.

One of his through on goal attempts he touched the ball once which took him away from the goal when he could have taken it more into the middle of the box, which significantly narrowed his angle to shoot from and alisson to save.

He then switched sides and came in from the left to take a shot where if, in my view, hed had the presence of mind to look up could've had a clear pass to the middle of the box and I think RlC standing there ready to shoot, whilst the attention was all very clearly on cavaleiro.. (I'd be interested in knowing - penalty aside, when was the last time he scored for us?) And then a third time when he finally crossed the ball, and Bobby Reid was at the far post you could see the closer to goal Cav got, the more Bobby slowed down... now we could criticise Bobby, but I think he's been very clinical for us this season and is pretty sharp minded in general , so I'm wondering why he didn't follow up and chase down the far post just In case? - the assumption could be that quite simply he didn't expect cavaliero to pass from that position.. either through being a striker and thinking of course he was going to shoot/score or simply believing that as a character and player cavaleiro tends to err on the selfish side rightly or wrongly.

There's no doubt cavaleiro has quality, but the bad traits need to be coached out of him because his confused overconfidence/want to be selfish is costing us... the penalty he missed initially was simply a poor penalty at the time, even though his foot gave way and yesterday - had lookman or reid been on the end of that, would we have arguably won?/would they have been more clinical.. on current form you'd not be wrong for having a more optimistic view.

Wonder what would've happened had we signed an ollie Watkins to fill in that role.. need strengthening in the final third in January.

Odd, I thought he played well yesterday
Watching the ups and downs since 1958, wouldn't have it any other way, what a roller coaster of a club.

We are now playing in a way that best suits Cav. and Cav. is the player available with the most pace and strength that  is needed in that role.
I have been calling for him to be dropped but think he will continue in Parker's line up. he still needs to sharpen up his finishing.

Agree and for the record Statto, you were right he has got genuine pace !

I thought his runs and general movement were brilliant and he did as much as anyone to unsettle the scousers.
If he'd put away one of those chances he'd have been a top contender for MOTM.
Obviously he needs to work on his finishing and, as mentioned, so much of that may be down to confidence.
It would be great to see him and BDR constantly interchanging during the course of a match so that the opposition don't know what to expect from one moment to the next.
Shame Arsenal didn't take care of Burnley. I only hope that being back in the bottom 3 doesn't destroy the positive momentum and confidence we seem to be building up. If we keep playing like this, we won't be there for long

Played well today, just wish he had scored one of the chances.

I love this thought - if Mitro can get back to his best, and play in RLC's position of hold up, pass off, then get into the box, the 4 of them (include Lookman) could be exactly what the doctor ordered in offence. I never thought I would say this, but Cav and BDR have become vital to a Fulham side in the prem! Where did all those words go that I have to eat....

:plus one:

He did so well to make though those runs, even if his finishing needs to be worked on, the  lack of composure - obviously  a tactic worked on in training,  probably specifically related to this game and Liverpool,  but we've done it  other recent games - defence splitting passes to  a fast runner running in behind, but staying onside- usually Lookman- getting on the end of them, and shooting.

This is really good for hitting opponents on the break, and is a lot different to out past style, with the slow build up, relying on crosses to Mitro.

Though we may see a different line up and  tactics  home to Brighton, who might be prepared to sit back and hit US on the break.

Best performance from Cav today, seemed to be enjoying his football, lets hope he and all our players gain more confidence and go from strength to strength for the rest of the season.

Watching the game again, thats was a fantastic performance by Cav. He has become very important to this team and I dont see that changing any time soon.

Anyway... agree totally with the OP

His performances definitely lifted with the teams, and credit to Scotty P, sticking with him when 90% of us just didnt get his inclusion. Against a team where we are more evenly matched like Brighton, I would still prefer Mitro (if healthy), but would no longer begrudge Cav his starting place.

On a side note I hope RLC  does something special soon, hes looking sharper and think it would settle him.
