Heard from a source in the club that we are after:

A replacement Goalkeeper
A sub left back (permanent)
Young CM (permanent and perhaps from city)
Two strikers (one temporary until summer and one permanent)

Looks like Lacina Traore and Ochoa fill two of those gaps, wonder what else will come...

Yep! Looks like!

Not sure, I'd say we already have a few wingers - Duff (if he's ever fit again), Dembele, Dempsey, all wingers of a sort. In that they're not central midfield players - I'm not sure the concept of someone being a winger isn't a bit outmoded these days.

Happy with the above list, though why a keeper? Either we're not getting the full story on Schwarzer's extension (like Edwin's before him) or MH doesn't rate Stockdale.

Agreed Balders - our wings are more than covered for the moment. We need to be concerned about the priority positions (namely strikers/full backs) and worry about the rest come Summer.

In January we only have Stockdale. We don't know if he's good enough (and won't of course if he doesn't get games) but if Hughes has doubts and a seriously good keeper is available then why not go for him if the money's there.

At this level there are times when good has to be replaced by better.

Good point Tony - had forgotten Schwarzer's jetting off to the other side of the world. You won't find me complaining if he can't oust Given when he gets back.

8 million is a lot for a goalie, rather spend it on a good playmaker midfielder to replace Murphy as he slows down.

As he slows down!!! he would be standing still if he was any slower.
Joking aside I still think the team needs him, no one else can keep the midfield ticking over like him and remember he has a big lump of a handicap playing with as well.

Yeah I'm hoping getting someone half decent in in Etuhu's place will make Murphy's job easier. Second only to a goalscorer I reckon, for next month.
