Lookman was awful

Why do we have to endure these threads week after week...

Awful is an overstatement but a typical response when things don't go our way. It was a tough match against an awkward opponent and came just three days after the Everton match in which the whole team gave everything. Not surprisingly some of our players weren't on top of their game, so overall it was disappointing but no need to single out Lookman.

Slow and predictable? He's still the only player we've got who gets the ball out wide and create himself half a yard with his body movement. At least he looks like making stuff happen when he's got the ball, he's not meant to be Messi ffs.

Well, he didn't show much of that tonight - why mention Messi ffs

Because people like you come on here and start a thread calling a player awful and overrated and it seems like you expect him to be of that calibre without offering anything more than "Slow and predictable - sh*te final touch" which is A) not true, and B) a really bad and unsubstantiated take.

He plays for Fulham so consider our level, we don't have world class forwards in our team who are going to put in 10/10 performances every week, most teams double up on him now because he was running teams ragged early in the season, look at Everton for a prime example of a team that gave him time and space to show his quality. Suppose both goals in that game came from build up down the left in spite of him being "slow and predictable" then??

I agree with the sentiments that he's had a good season and he's entitled to an off game but IMO:

Lookman's issue is that he never takes the first, nay even the second and sometimes even third option.  He holds the ball too long and allows the defence the opportunity to either double team him or block off any potential overlaps or crosses.

The beauty of our first goal against Everton is that Lookman played the ball in for Aina on the overlap straight away, which allowed an easier cross.  Think of how many times Robinson has bust a gut to make an overlapping run to be ignored by Mola.

He needs to play with his head up more and be encouraged to play at a higher tempo.

Poor game today but he's not a robot - everyone has bad days. He's turned up for big games for us during the season - one bad game doesn't change the fact that he's been a quality asset for us so far this season.

Give it up. Never a post about someone who has played well. Always a post slagging of a player.

Agreed - why do we always have to slag off a player. Maybe his opponent had a good gamem maybe he was carrying a knock. He probably knows he wasn't too good today but he continued to work hard

St Eve

He was not awful. Not his best game but Burnley did their homework. He is a great talent

Steven Ageroad

Give the guy a break, he is very good and other teams know it and if you watch when gets the ball in their half at least 2 men are on him restricting his options.

clarkey

Lookman is our most creative player and he looked tired and made bad decisions throughout the game.In fact virtually the whole team looked tired, that is why there were so many individual mistakes and misdugements.
Worse of all was the defending after we scored.

But some dreadful performances today: RLC was awful, Lemina terrible, Tosin his worst game to date, even Cav managed to look a bit better than some of these but it was a dumb sub taking Bobby off, he can actually hit the target. Cav did put in a cross, why has it taken him all this time to do that ?

Texas White

Burnley kicked everyone off the park. He needs a break and should start from the bench next game.

You were on the match day thread declaring we were sh1te, could have been 3 or 4 down by half time etc etc. Talk about exaggeration, sorry can't take this thread seriously.

Rumors indicate that Lookman and Anguissa both got covid, an illness that frequently kills unhealthy people and/or reduces elite athletes' performance. It seems a little harsh saying they are rubbish 6-8 weeks after they caught covid, as they probably not back to full fitness yet, and will improve for a few months still. Fulham and all its players have done well this year, we need to keep on improving and one day we will come 17th in the Premier League.

Woolly Mammoth

He had a poor game by his standards and does not help himself by taking on one too many players instead of passing. However, this is a Burnley team that stifle you by closing down very quickly, they worked very hard off the ball which gave Fulham no space or time on the ball.
Lookman will come good again, he is so capable of opening up defences, but against Burnley it was never going to be easy, so slagging off Lookman is harsh, in fact slagging off any player is harsh after we have gained a valuable point at a ground we generally come away empty handed is a plus even though we could not reach the heights of Sunday, at the end of the day we had to grind out a result and we did because Fulham are no longer a pushover.

Well said, Wolly. Agree 100%. Very tough match for him, and while frustrating at times, he did well. If we don't move the ball fast enough, Burnley will regain shape and are extremely tough with their pressing. We trapped ourselves too many times. I think the sub of Zambo for Lemina was key, along with the switch of BDR going out right, while RLC slotted behind Maja. Good things overall - shame both Maja and Lookman couldn't convert their chances, but not dire by any means.

SG

That's the vital thing Woolly - Fulham are no longer a pushover

West Ewells all White

Really don`t believe this post, the bloke has consistently been our most effective attacking player, the problem is we haven`t got adequate cover so he is having to play every game! give us all a break

grandad

Can we rename the thread to RLC is consistently our worst player.
