Sheffield United stance on Slavisa Jokanovic after former Fulham boss emerges as top candidate

The Serbian is the latest name to be linked with the vacant manager's job at Bramall Lane following Chris Wilder's departure last week

Former Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic has been linked with the job at Bramall Lane

Slaviša Jokanović is the latest name to be linked with the vacant manager's job at Bramall Lane.

The Serbian 52-year-old is currently the manager of Qatari club Al-Gharafa but has two Championship promotions on his CV from his time at Watford and Fulham.

According to reports, United have made him their number one target and want to tempt him back to England.

Yorkshire Live has been told that as it stands, no one from Sheffield United has spoken to him and he hasn't applied for the job.

Those tasked with finding a suitable replacement for Chris Wilder, who departed the club last week after five years in charge, were presented with a list of names on Friday of those who have applied and Jokanovic's name was not on that list.

The club plans to take its time regarding the appointment and do not want to rush a decision, with Paul Heckingbottom in charge until the end of the season.

Of that list of applicants, which was compiled by CEO Stephen Bettis and Carl Shieber, the club's head of football administration, some are of interest to the Blades hierarchy.

United only began the process of sifting through the names in the past couple of days and it is still too early to have spoken with anyone or identify a leading candidate.

However, should they want to turn to Jokanovic later down the line, the report claims they would have to make him the highest paid manager in the division with wages in the £2m-a-year range.

The report also states that Wilder has recommended Swansea's Steve Cooper as an ideal replacement.

Investigation launched as fan films himself sneaking dangerous view of Fulham vs Leeds United

The fan gained a view of the game via the Riverside development currently taking place at Craven Cottage

An investigation has been launched over a social media video showing a fan gaining a view of Leeds United's victory over Fulham via a construction site on Friday evening.

The Whites ran out 2-1 winners in the game, ensuring they went into the international break on a high thanks to goals from Patrick Bamford and Raphinha.

As has been a common sight this season, the game was played behind closed doors due to the current coronavirus restrictions - although one fan went to dangerous lengths to watch it.

A video posted on TikTok, purporting to be from a Leeds fan, has shown someone getting a view of the match from the construction site next to Fulham's Craven Cottage ground.

In the video, the fan can be seen getting a glimpse of the action from a construction site amid the ongoing development to the Riverside Stand at Craven Cottage before climbing to a dangerous height to get an aerial view of the match.

The fan gained the view from a part of the development area which is outside of the stadium, meaning they did not gain access to Craven Cottage itself.

Fulham's Riverside Stand is currently being redeveloped, with the stadium's capacity set to rise from 25,700 to 29,600, with community amenities also set to be included in the new building, including a rooftop swimming pool

An investigation is understood to be taking place over the incident.

Whilst the fan did not gain access to Craven Cottage itself, Fulham are aware of the video.

Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd, responsible for the construction where the individual gained access from part of the Riverside Development, said the incident is being taken seriously but declined to comment further.

Still Rather Be In Newcastle’s Shoes Than Fulham’s – Kevin Nolan
Former Newcastle United star Kevin Nolan has insisted that he would still rather be in the Magpies’ camp than Fulham’s in the relegation dogfight as Steve Bruce’s side still have more points with a game in hand.

A 3-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday night pushed Newcastle an inch further towards the relegation quagmire and they have won just two of their last 18 Premier League games.

But Newcastle still have a two-point lead over Fulham, who are sitting just below them in the league table, and they have played a game fewer than their relegation rivals.

Fulham’s form has seen an uptick in recent weeks, which has boosted their hopes of surviving in the Premier League, but Nolan stressed that he would rather be Newcastle at the moment.

He believes having extra points and the game in hand still counts for something, but the former Magpie insisted that Newcastle need to find a way out of their current rut in order to boost their survival hopes as they cannot just depend on the points they have already earned.

Nolan said on Premier League TV following the match: “For me, I’d rather be sitting in Newcastle’s camp at this minute being on 28 points, having a game in hand than I’d be at Fulham.

"You have got the points on board, you have got the game in hand, but you can’t rely on that.

"It’s about looking at this and thinking now where do we go and what is needed.”

Newcastle boss Bruce is hoping that the international break can allow him time to bring injured players up to speed to boost his side’s survival hopes.

If It Goes To Last Game Fulham Will Relegate Newcastle – Andy Townsend
Andy Townsend believes the Newcastle United players could wilt under the pressure if the relegation fight with Fulham goes down to the last day of the Premier League season.

An emphatic 3-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday night took Brighton some way away from the relegation zone and now they have a four-point buffer over 18th placed Newcastle.

Newcastle have won just two of their last 18 league games, but they still have a two-point edge over Fulham and have played a game fewer than the London side.

Fulham have improved in recent weeks after looking condemned to relegation for much of the season and many feel that the race could go down to the last day of the season when Newcastle and the Cottagers face off.

Townsend conceded that it is going to be tight between the two teams, but believes if it goes down to the last day Fulham will come up trumps as he is not sure the Newcastle players would be able to handle the pressure.

He said on Premier League TV following the Brighton game: “When I look at those fixtures, it is going to be so tight and it might come down to the one at the bottom when they play each other.

“It really might and if it goes to the last game, I’d back Fulham to survive.

“I think the pressure will be too much for the Newcastle players.

And I don’t see them coping it with too well at the moment.”

Fulham are due to face Aston Villa, Wolves and Arsenal in their next three games, while Newcastle will play Tottenham Hotspur, Burnley and West Ham United.
