The way we played in the Leeds match - felt the writing was on the wall

So not surprised but still a tad disappointed

We know Wolves will win Friday and there won't be any grand finale against Newcastle

Lights out to false hopes - time for a soothing bath

It was the performance at WBA that I felt was a reality check.

Sadly, I think we are going down. Definitely will lose to Wolves on Friday. They are not great but unlike Fulham they dont just lie down. They will play like Villa on steroids I expect. Never give us a moment to get the ball under control.

All the good work before was undone in the Man City match. As good as City are we shot ourselves in the foot in that game and more defensive mistakes followed in the Leeds match. To be fair to Leeds they outplayed us and fully deserved the win. Confidence was massive before those two defeats so it came as no surprise that we lost today. I just didn't expect it would go way it did after taking the lead because up until then Villa offered very little. I feel for Tosin, he's a decent young player who is definitely an assist to the squad. If we had any depth he could have been taken out of the firing line before today.

Not turning up to either of the Brighton games did it for me. I said at time we looked like a relegation team and got slated. We still look like a a relegation team! Just not enough PL quality players and a young manager out of his depth at present.

I think management experience is a big factor you can't buy that, especially when the first team is light  premier league appearances.

Even if we beat Wolves I think we'll likely go down. You can already see Newcastle are capable of a few draws and maybe a narrow margin win. Us? Just dont see it.

Would love to see Slav back as I don't see Scotty getting us promoted - we were so lucky to get in the play-off final last season.

Interesting to see what's left of this team going forward...

Will miss watching Tete, Areola and Anderson - will they will sell Mitro now he's scored in an attempt to recoup some money?

The writing was on the wall after the Leeds match and it is now all over the Cottage pitch in black and white capitals.

We are as good as relegated, start thinking of how we can assemble a team to achieve mid table security in the Championship.

We need to forget  past games, and there have been very good performances too, such as beating Leicester and Liverpool, and focus on the games coming up.

I understand why some  fans might want to accept relegation  now, to save themselves the mental turmoil - it's the hope that kills - but I certainly don't expect the manager and players to  accept  this- only being 3 points behind Newcastle with 7 games left.

Nero

The writing was on the wall before the season started. Just negative words from the.mqnager that continued until about game 20. The manager prepared to fail and not prepared to succeed. But thank our. Lucky stars we didn't get Moyes whats that has been upto now days

RaySmith

I don't agree that there were negative words from Parker, or that he didn't/doesn't want to achieve continued Prem status.
In fact, I'm sure  he wants the opposite, and believes in the players, and i'm sure everyone at the club will still believe they have a good chance of survival.

we are still in this . dont understand with 7 games yo go you would write us off. Its football. If there is one thing Parker has consistantly delivered on its bouncing back. Get a  grip!

We still have a very good chance of staying up. Despite two poor performance with zero points gained, we are still only 3 points behind Newcastle!

I look at their fixtures and see 6 points at best from them up until they play us.

That means we need to target 2 wins from the next 6 in order to take it to that last game.

If we beat Wolves and Newcastle fail to beat Burnley, then I would say we are again favourites to stay up.  If results go the other way then we are indeed up poo creek.

So, an awful lot does rest on this next game game. If we don't win - it mean we would almost certainly need to beat Burnley and also get one win (or three draws) from our trips to Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton and Man Utd.

The talk after the Liverpool game was over the top. The players and manager were talking as if we were definitely going to rise the table.

I do remember at the time, our stats over a certain period showed we were performing about 10/11th placed side. I noticed in the Leeds game we dwelt on the ball too long. Not in a nervous manner but more that we felt we would keep hold of it. Man City and Leeds absolutely buzzing around us and covering up our options really kicked the confidence out of us.

Its weird. Had we lost at Liverpool, I think we would have got some points out of the Leeds or villa games. That win has messed us up. Lets not forget, recent games before that we were the better team against the likes of Everton, West Ham, spurs and palace.

Tosin has become the distribution channel at the back but is doing that confidence thing where he is not looking for his out ball until he receives the ball. As he is being targeted, that is too late. The guys in front need to work harder to be able to give him an easy one touch option. Reed has slightly hidden in the last few games and that has really hurt Tosin. I think Zambo would help him at the moment.

Lookman injury is horrible for us. I see here people saying he doesn't do enough, which I think is unfair. What he does is occupy two players of the opposition who keep him shackled.

When he went off, Villa really started to take advantage of that late in the game. Of course, our tactics didnt help.

Its not over but we need a break and more importantly, we need to be able to grasp the break if we get it. Lomng shot on both accounts but win on Friday...

I cant state how big Friday is. The second half of the City game was poor, as was the Leeds and Villa games. If we are poor again and make defensive mistakes against Wolves it's 100% over. If we win and Newcastle lose, we are level on points and their game in hand is against a resurgent Liverpool. The performance though is almost (not quite) as important as the points. We have looked woeful at the back again. There is absolutely no chance we stay up making mistakes like Tosin did etc against Leeds and Villa.

We need an upturn in form and performance for sure. It's not over yet but Wolves is a must win for me and I don't often say that. Still need 3 wins and 3 draws or whatever combination that leads to 12 points out of 7 games. The rotund lady is warbling!!!! COYW

Agreed.

Our good performances are too isolated and few in far between.

Our lack of consistency (particularly in the final third) is ultimately what will send us down.

For what it's worth, yes we could do with 1-2 more PL quality options on the wings or up front, but I'm also of the opinion that every time we shape to have an opportunity we are too hesitant to play in an early cross or through ball and it allows the opponents time to get settled and organised defensively.

I couldnt agree more. Often a first time slightly misplaced pass into the danger area causes more problems.
