Dimitar Berbatov discusses Scott Parker for Tottenham, compares to Arsenal boss

Dimitar Berbatov has claimed in an interview with Football London that Fulham manager Scott Parker would be a great appointment for Tottenham Hotspur this summer – and compared the young London-born boss to Arsenal's Mikel Arteta.

Ryan Mason has been placed in interim charge until the end of the season as Jose Mourinho's replacement, after the 'Special One' was sacked on Monday – leaving Tottenham in seventh place in the Premier League, five points adrift of the top-four spots.

Plenty have been linked. The likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rodgers and plenty more have been linked with Spurs – as has ex-Spurs midfielder Parker. Football London reporter Alisdair Gold recently claimed Spurs were keeping tabs on Parker.

Now, Spurs icon Berbatov has discussed whether Parker would be a good managerial appointment for Spurs – a 40-year-old manager who has now spent three years at Fulham. Berbatov believes he is a good option, and compared him to Arteta.

"Scott Parker is working at Fulham. I used to play with him. Great appointment in my opinion. Yes Fulham are struggling but he's doing a great job. Mikel Arteta at Arsenal also, the same example," Berbatov said.

"It doesn't have to be the guy who was playing for your club before but in my opinion he has to be young and in full power of his ability and wake up every morning to say 'let's go, let's go, let's crush it'."

TBR's view – Can Parker take Tottenham forward?
Certainly, it would be easy to get him this summer. Fulham look more than likely to go down and surely, Parker would jump at the chance to manage a side he knows well – having played for the club 63 times between 2011 and 2013.

His style, charisma and nous in the transfer market have given Fulham a chance of Premier League survival. But the tumultuous ownership and the pure amount of signings have seen the Cottagers struggle this season.

Parker is showing signs of huge potential as a manager but if he was to take over at Spurs, he would need a more-experienced head alongside him to help him – but there is certainly a chance.

Report: Hammers could move for PSG keeper

According to ITK EXWHUEmployee West Ham hold an interest in PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola

Areola is currently on loan with Fulham from Paris Saint-Germain but his future in the Premier League is doubt alongside Fulham's top flight status.

Fulham have an option to purchase Areola at the end of the season but the Frenchman is keen to wait to see what division the Cottagers' will be competing in before deciding if he will stay, while PSG could yet have a role to play.

The Hammers could take advantage and swoop in with an offer should Scot Parker's Fulham be relegated at the end of this season.

36-year-old Łukasz Fabiański has a contract with the Hammers until 2023 but can be prone to the odd mistake as we saw against Newcastle United last weekend.

Moyes is likely to be in the market for a new number one with Slavia Prague goalkeeper Ondrej Kolar also linked in reports as a possible target with Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Seny Dieng also linked.

Tottenham Hotspur: Graham Potter could emerge as managerial candidate

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur could target Brighton and Hove Albion boss Graham Potter as a possible replacement for the dismissed Jose Mourinho – with the Englishman emerging as a possible candidate alongside Scott Parker.

Mourinho was given his marching order by Spurs on Monday after a very bizarre season, coming after they briefly raced to top of the Premier League table near the end of last year.

Tottenham even thrashed Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford, becoming only the second team in Premier League history to do so, but a sorry slump of form soon followed their electric start.

A dismal run of results after the New Year included an humiliating Europa League exit at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb and a tame north London derby loss to Arsenal.

As a result, Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham, and there have been no shortage of successors touted in the media.

The Mail now claim, alongside the usual suspects Julian Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers, that the likes of Parker and Potter could now emerge as unlikely candidates.

Transfer Tavern take

The latter man in particular has attracted plenty of plaudits for his job on the south coast, with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola blown away by his quality and even calling him 'the best English manager right now' whilst professing his love for Brighton's style of play (Brighton and Hove Independent).

As well as this, Independent journalist Miguel Delaney dubbed him an 'excellent manager' and praised the Seagulls' 'brave' decision to appoint him.

Out of all the outside candidates, as a result, we believe the £1 million-per-year boss could be considered as a very credible dark horse for the job behind favourites Nagelsmann and Rodgers, due to his relatively low wages and forward-thinking tactics.

Sheffield United's next manager: Alan Nixon reveals the Blades' 'main focus'

Journalist Alan Nixon has stated that Sheffield United are focused on bringing Slavisa Jokanovic to Bramall Lane.

What's the managerial situation at Sheffield United?

After taking the club from League One to the English top-flight, the Blades decided to part ways with Chris Wilder at the tail end of March, with the club sitting rock bottom of the Premier League.

Paul Heckingbottom was named as the interim manager until the end of the season but it's currently unclear as to who will take the reigns next year.

However, reporter Nixon has provided an important update on the Blades' managerial search.

What has Nixon revealed?

In response to a question sent to him by a Sheffield United fan that said, "any movement on blades manager Al?", Nixon shared the following.

"Big Slav the main focus now," the journalist shared to his followers.

According to The Sun journalist, former Fulham manager Jokanovic is the main target for the Yorkshire club.

How has Jokanovic performed in the past?

Following relegation to the Championship, Sheffield United will have one motive in mind and that's a return to the Premier League at the earliest opportunity.

Therefore, they need a manager who can guide the club back to the English top-flight and preferably somebody who has previously completed this mammoth task. Step forward  Jokanovic.

The 52-year-old has managed to achieve promotion from the Championship with Watford and Fulham previously.

During the 2014/15 season, Jokanovic guided the Hornets to automatic promotion to the top tier. However, he was replaced prior to the start of the Premier League season by Quique Sanches Flores.

The Serbian manager later took over the Cottagers mid-way through the 2015/16 season and spent nearly three years with the west London club.

During his second season in the Championship, Jokanovic guided Fulham to the play-off semi-finals but lost to Reading over two legs. The following year, Fulham earned promotion to the Premier League, as the Cottagers beat Aston Villa in the play-off final.

Across Jokanovic's final two seasons in the Championship, he managed to record a win rate of 50.9%, according to Transfermakt.

In the English top-flight, Fulham struggled and only managed to record one victory under Jokanovic. He was dismissed in early November 2018.

Following his sacking, the Serbian returned to the dugout in the next campaign with Qatari side Al-Gharafa SC and his side are currently fourth in the nation's domestic league.

Is he the right man for the Blades?

The manager certainly has the ability to bring the Blades back to the Premier League based upon his previous success with the Cottagers.

Under Jokanovic, Fulham played attacking football on the front foot, which didn't translate well to the Premier League. However, after reaching the play-offs on two separate occasions, the manager clearly has a strong understanding of a difficult league.

However, one issue the Blades might face is the finances of bringing Jokanovic back to England. According to page 61 of The Sun, and reported by Sheffield United News, the manager earns £2.5m a year after tax.

The Blades may need to match or improve his current wage packet if Sheffield United are serious about luring him to Brammall Lane. That feels like big money for a Championship boss.

'Not ready': Pundit warns PL boss over Tottenham job; says Levy would 'eat him alive'

Fulham coach Scott Parker is "not ready" to work under Daniel Levy at Tottenham Hotspur, former Premier League owner Simon Jordan has told talkSPORT (21 April, 12.50pm).

It seems the list of managers under consideration to replace Jose Mourinho in north London is longer than one of Peter Crouch's limbs.

Julian Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers appear to be the early front runners but, with the former bound for Bayern and the latter committed to life at Leicester, a lengthy queue is forming behind them.

Rui Vitoria, Marcelino Garcia Toral and Maurizio Sarri have all been linked in the past 48 hours while, according to the Daily Mail, Steve Cooper of Swansea City, Brighton's Graham Potter and former Spurs midfielder Parker could also enter the race.

But while 40-year-old Parker deserves a lot of credit for the way he has turned Fulham into a competitive, free-flowing Premier League outfit – one that outplayed Mourinho's Tottenham in January – Jordan believes a more experienced option is a must.

"Daniel (Levy) would eat (Parker) alive. He's not ready for that kind of relationship," says the former Crystal Palace chairman.

"He'd be lucky to get the Tottenham job."

Speaking yesterday, Jordan made it clear he feels Nuno Espirito Santo is the right man for the job.

But why would the Wolverhampton Wanderers boss walk away from one of the most ambitious clubs in England for a Tottenham side sliding rapidly in the wrong direction.

"What are you going to do for me that I can't get at Wolves?" Jordan says, wondering what Nuno might say if Levy came calling.

"If you give me £100 million to spend, I might come."
