Manager 'admired' by Bournemouth to hold talks with current club

Scott Parker expects to have discussions with Fulham as they look set to slip back into the Championship, as per a report by The Athletic.

There are question marks as to whether he will be staying at Craven Cottage.

Parker, who is 40 years old, has admirers at second tier side Bournemouth, according to The Guardian, as well as relegated Sheffield United, as per The Sun on Sunday (18/4/21, pg 67).

His uncertain future at Fulham could see other clubs swoop in this summer.

Bournemouth currently have Jonathan Woodgate as their manager until the end of the season and it will be interesting to see if they make a move for Parker if he departs.

Sheffield United are in the hunt for a new permanent boss to lead them into the Championship and he would fit the bill for the Yorkshire side.

Parker guided Fulham to promotion to the Premier League via the Play-Offs last season in his first full campaign as a manager but his side have struggled in the top flight this term.

They are now heading back into the second tier and his future with the London club will depend on whether he has the appetite for another long hard slog at that level.

Bournemouth and Sheffield United both pose as fresh challenges for Parker and time will tell on what he decides to do for next season.

Of Course – Fulham Star Still Believes Relegation Can Be Avoided

Fulham defender Joachim Andersen has insisted that the relegation-threatened Cottagers can still stay up in the Premier League this season and stressed that in football nothing can be taken for granted.

The Cottagers are currently 18th in the league table, nine points behind Newcastle United in 17th place, hanging on to their top flight status by a thread.

Fulham have picked up just one point since defeating Liverpool in early March, thereby condemning themselves to a bleak relegation fight, where not only do the Cottagers have to win their remaining games, but also hope for their rivals to drop points.

Andersen still feels the Cottagers have a chance of maintaining their top flight status for another season as he believes anything is possible in football.

The centre-back also admitted that Fulham have brought their current dire situation upon themselves.

"Of course, it [staying up] can be done, it's football, you know", Andersen told Fulham's official site.

"We still have four games and we need to win those games.

"So we need to believe in it and wait until it's over.

"I don't know, don't know what to say, I believe in it and I also feel the whole team we need to believe in it.

"Of course, it's difficult when you don't get the points."

Fulham are next in action at Craven Cottage against Burnley and will know all three points are badly needed.

Premier League introduces owners' charter to protect principle of open competition and prevent future Super League

Premier League introduces owners' charter to protect its "core principles" which all club owners must sign up to; Government supporting PL to bring in "appropriate legislation" with breaches of new rules subject to significant sanctions, FA launches inquiry into clubs involved in breakaway

The Premier League has introduced additional rules and regulations, including a new owners' charter, to stop future attempts to join a breakaway Super League.

Six Premier League sides, including Manchester United and Liverpool, announced late on April 18 they were joining a new continental competition called the European Super League, only for it to collapse amid intense pressure within 48 hours.

The Premier League has now put in place a new set of measures to stop any future attempt of a breakaway division, which include additional rules and regulations and a new owners' charter that all club owners will be required to sign up to committing them to the core principles of the competition.

It is enlisting the support of the Government to bring in "appropriate legislation" and will work alongside UEFA, the FA, EFL, PFA and LMA to ensure breaches of these new rules and the charter will be subject to significant sanctions.

"The actions of a few clubs cannot be allowed to create such division and disruption," a Premier League statement read.

"We are determined to establish the truth of what happened and hold those clubs accountable for their decisions and actions. We and The FA are pursuing these objectives quickly and appropriately, consulting with fans and Government."

The Premier League insisted events during the last two weeks had "challenged the foundations and resolve of English football."

Fan protests in the days that followed the Super League announcement on top of widespread criticism from the footballing world resulted in most of the 12 European clubs - including all six Premier League sides - involved in the proposed breakaway pulling out.

A statement continued: "The Premier League, supported by The FA, is taking the following actions to protect our game, our clubs and their fans from further disruption and uncertainty.

"Additional rules and regulation to ensure the principles of the Premier League and open competition are protected, a new Owners' Charter that all club owners will be required to sign up to, committing them to the core principles of the Premier League, (while) breaches of these rules and the Charter will be subject to significant sanctions.

"And we are enlisting the support of Government to bring in appropriate legislation to protect football's open pyramid, principles of sporting merit and the integrity of the football community.

"We will work with the fan groups, Government, UEFA, the FA, EFL, PFA and LMA to defend the integrity and future prospects of English football."

Carragher: Do we want PL clubs self regulating?
Sky Sports' Jamie Carragher told Monday Night Football:

"This is what we called for a couple of weeks ago, so I cant say that's a bad thing. But football is a lot bigger than just the Premier League.

"Something I also want to explain is that when we talk about 'the Premier League', people have this idea that there's a body above the clubs, but the Premier League IS the clubs.

"So looking at that, I want it signed and the Super League can't happen again, but is this almost the clubs regulating themselves? Let's be honest, we don't really want that.

"There's a lot more in football that we want regulated and fixing and maybe owners coming in, supporters coming in."

Official FA inquiry into Super League formation underway
The FA has confirmed an official inquiry into the formation of the Super League and the involvement of the six English clubs - which also included Arsenal, Chelsea , Manchester City and Tottenham - had started last week.

An FA spokesperson said: "Since we became aware of the European Super League our priority and focus has been on preventing it from happening, both now and in the future.

"Throughout this period, we have been in ongoing discussions with the Government, the Premier League and UEFA.

"In particular, we have been discussing legislation with Government that would allow us to prevent any similar threat in the future so that we can protect the English football pyramid.

"Last week, we started an official inquiry into the formation of the European Super League and the involvement of the six English clubs.

"We wrote to all of the clubs to formally request all relevant information and evidence regarding their participation. Once we have the required information, we will consider what appropriate steps to take."

Dyke: Time for independent regulator and ownership test
Former FA chairman Greg Dyke says he hopes the fan-led review of football governance led by Sports Minister Tracey Crouch will recommend an independent regulator and a new ownership test.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Dyke said the government are highly likely to support any recommendations made by the review following the widespread criticism of the existing system.

"Football needs an independent regulator and I hope that it is one of the things that Tracey Crouch and her committee will recommend," Dyke said.

"If Tracey Crouch's recommendation is that you bring an independent regulator in, in the current circumstances it will be quite difficult for the government not to follow that advice.

"What would the regulations do? There are a number of areas where it is needed, for instance, the only thing that unites all the clubs is the stance against agents - someone has to regulate that. So much of the money that is coming into football is going out.

"Ofcom does it well in broadcasting and television, it should do the same kind of things. Is this fair? Is it proper?

When asked about fit and proper tests for owners, Dyke continued: "Ownership tests have not been dealt with properly in the past.

"By in large, most Premier League owners would sell their clubs at a profit if they could to make money. You need to have a much better test so that some of the more suspect people that have bought football clubs cannot do it in the future."

ulham: Ian Wright discusses Scott Parker continuing to ignore Aleksandar Mitrovic

Ian Wright has been speaking on the latest edition of Match of the Day to discuss Saturday's Premier League games and one match he spent some time on was Fulham's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Scott Parker's side managed ten shots in the match, but they failed to score and are nine points from safety with four games to go.

Fulham have only scored 25 goals all season, but despite this, Aleksandar Mitrovic has played a bit-part role, and this has confused Wright.

He said: (39:56) "I think so [when asked if Fulham would be relegated] and, for me it's baffling that [Mitrovic hasn't played], whatever you say about Mitrovic, he does score goals.

"I would have just left him in there because we saw with them chances [ones against Chelsea], you need a focal point.

"That's something that's baffled me all season, no Mitrovic."

TIF Thoughts on Mitrovic...

The Serbian scored two goals at the beginning of the season against Leeds United, but since then, he has had varying amounts of game time and only scored one more league goal.

Mitrovic has had his struggles this season, but he has scored 24 Premier League goals for both Newcastle United and Fulham, which is one less than Parker's side have managed this season.

So you can see why Wright is confused that Mitrovic has been left out, but even if he played a more prominent role for Fulham, it could be too late.

However, we would still like to see Mitrovic feature more at some point before the end of the season to give Fulham a fighting chance of taking the relegation battle to the final day.

Fulham to beat Rangers, Celtic to Siriki Dembele?

Fulham are reportedly interested in Peterborough United forward Siriki Dembele, who has also attracted interest from Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers.

The 24-year-old has scored 12 goals and provided as many assists for Darren Ferguson's side, who have achieved promotion to the Championship by finishing second in League One this season.

However, it is believed that Dembele has handed in his transfer request to the club as he aims to go to a higher level than the Championship, with interest from Premier League clubs at his disposal.

Football Insider reports that Fulham scouts watched the forward score against Lincoln City on the weekend, and Crystal Palace, Rangers and Celtic are also lining up a move for Dembele.

Fulham's survival in the Premier League may hinder their chances of competing with the other clubs interested in the attacker, who has connections to the Hoops as his brother Karamoko Dembele currently plays for Celtic.

The London-born forward joined Peterborough in 2018 and has scored 25 goals and provided 28 assists in 122 appearances for the club.
