Transfer News: Arsenal monitoring Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa

Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs on Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who could be available for around £20 million in the summer.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Arsenal are among a number of clubs mulling over the possibility of making a swoop for Fulham star Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa in the summer transfer window.

Anguissa signed for Fulham in the summer of 2018 from French club Marseille and impressed in his debut campaign in England despite the Cottagers getting relegated. The 25-year-old spent the last season out on loan at Villarreal and did well in Spain, before returning to Craven Cottage in the summer, with Fulham back in the top-flight.

Anguissa has been one of Scott Parker's better players this season even as they ended up getting relegated yet again. So far in 2020/21, the Cameroonian midfielder has featured 35 times in all competitions, registering three assists in the process. An energetic, box-to-box midfielder, the Fulham ace could be sold by the club in the summer for a transfer fee of £20 million, alerting a number of clubs, including Arsenal.

The Gunners, after what has been a disappointing campaign so far, will be eyeing a squad overhaul in the summer, with midfield being one area where reinforcements will be very much in need. Indeed, Dani Ceballos will see his loan deal expire at the end of the season while Mohamed Elneny is largely used as a rotation option by manager Mikel Arteta.

With Joe Willock likely to seal a permanent transfer away from the Emirates, Arsenal will be left with just Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and the aforementioned Elneny as options in the centre of the park, thus warranting the addition of a new midfielder ahead of the next season.

To that end, they have been heavily linked with a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma, while recent reports have also claimed that Arsenal are set to prioritise a move for Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga. However, given the competition for both the players, Anguissa could represent a viable alternative for the north London giants.

Arsenal, though, are likely to have to contend with interest from Everton as well as Aston Villa, both of whom are looking at Anguissa to bolster their midfield units. The Cameroonian international is contracted with Fulham till the summer of 2023, with the club retaining the option of extending it by another year. But with the club open to offloading the 25-year-old, it now remains to be seen if the Gunners end up making a move.

Tottenham eye another Premier League manager after giving up on Brendan Rodgers

Tottenham have reportedly turned their attention towards Fulham manager Scott Parker as an alternative to Brendan Rodgers, who wants to stay at current club Leicester City.

The north Londoners recently sacked Jose Mourinho after a disappointing season, and will surely want a more proven name in the dugout than current interim boss Ryan Mason.

However, Spurs have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Rodgers, who seems content to remain at Leicester for the time being, according to Football Insider.

The report states Tottenham could now look to Parker instead, despite the 40-year-old just suffering relegation with Fulham this term.

Parker is also relatively inexperienced at the highest level, so it seems a gamble from Spurs, though they may also have other targets in mind as well.

Parker also knows the club from his time there as a player, so that might appeal to chairman Daniel Levy as he looks to usher in a new era at Tottenham.

Aleksandar Mitrovic: If Slavisa Jokanovic does take charge of Sheffield United, prepare for the inevitable rumour to start swirling
If, and it remains 'if' Slavisa Jokanovic becomes Sheffield United's next manager, one player will inevitably be linked with a move to Bramall Lane.

His name is Aleksandar Mitrovic; the former Chelsea midfielder's fellow Serb, who despite firing Fulham into the Premier League less than 12 months ago is now being tipped to leave Craven Cottage if Scott Parker remains at the helm after they were also relegated back to the Championship. Even though owner Shahid Khan has different ideas.

For a whole host of reasons, money being the most obvious, Mitrovic is unlikely to move north later this year. United would have to finalise a deal with Jokanovic and his people before they could even start doing the maths.

But in the event they are able to broker one - crucially, both parties involved in the discussions are interested in progressing them beyond the preliminary stage - it would still be a major surprise if Mitrovic was not flagged by others as a potential summer signing. Particularly by those looking for an easy line ahead of the transfer window. One which, whilst not being forensically sourced, still seems plausible enough to generate interest and traction.

Clearly, Jokanovic and Mitrovic enjoy an excellent relationship. Even though Khan's billions ultimately made the switch happen, the centre-forward made it clear Jokanovic's presence at Craven Cottage was what persuaded him to turn his back on Anderlecht, where he was supposed to be heading on loan after falling out of favour at Newcastle, and accept a posting in the Championship instead.

Speaking at the time, soon after Mitrovic had single-handedly condemned his side to defeat in SW6, Chris Wilder questioned why a player with World Cup experience would choose to perform in the second tier. It was a backhanded compliment of sorts. And Mitrovic had already provided the answer.

"I went to Fulham because of the style and because of the coach," Mitrovic said, explaining how Jokanovic had first got in touch via Snapchat. Later, when Fulham dispensed with the 52-year-old's services soon after he had led them into the top-flight, Mitrovic admitted the decision was "very bad news" for him personally. "Everyone knows what he has done for my career," he lamented. "So I feel it much heavier, yes."

Despite being stuffed to the gills with strikers, many of whom are proven scorers in the second tier, United's squad is still likely to benefit from an injection of power, pace and nous ahead of the new campaign.

Like Jokanovic himself, Mitrovic, who has struggled for gametime of late under Parker, appears perfectly suited to United's approach and playing style.

However, estimated to earn more than £60,000 a week in the capital after commanding a £27m fee following his departure from St James' Park, Mitrovic is likely to be beyond United's reach should he be sacrificed during the overhaul Fulham are planning after they were demoted alongside United and West Bromwich Albion.

Despite apparently being on a much firmer financial footing than when Wilder took charge in May 2016 - one of his gifts, after parting company with them in March, was an enhanced parachute payment following last season's ninth placed finish - the Covid-19 pandemic and loss of PL broadcasting revenues will have a big effect on United's balance sheet. Much bigger, one suspects, than officials insisted after recently releasing their latest set of accounts. Particularly as, despite enjoying some support from their owner, United are essentially an organically grown institution. Their success under Wilder, until things began to go south in September, is responsible for the growth in spending power. Not a sugar daddy.

Despite briefing they plan to retain the core of their playing staff, whoever does take charge of United on a permanent basis will want to make personnel changes to suit their own tactics and strategies. Paul Heckingbottom, placed in interim charge in March, has been involved in helping plan United's recovery programme following a wretched campaign which sees them travel to Everton this weekend hoping to avoid a 29th defeat in 36 outings. The former Barnsley, Leeds and Hibernian chief, whose name also features on the shortlist of candidates identified as Wilder's potential replacement, has argued widespread upheaval would be a mistake; acknowledging confidence inside the dressing room is at an all-time low but noting the positive chemistry its inhabitants enjoy.

However, although attack is one area of the pitch where United would be better served trimming rather than strengthening their options, making at least one 'statement' signing would help reinvigorate a fan base which has also been left dispirited by results of late.

United have played to the gallery in the past, and seldom performed well. But after spending two years at the highest level, they should be able to shop in a more attractive market now. If United do stick to their word and resist offers for their most exciting talents - something the right managerial appointment would help them do - the team still appears in need of freshening up.

"It's been tough, as people would expect," Heckingbottom said, before Saturday's loss to Crystal Palace which saw United draw a blank for the 22nd time this season. "Goalscoring has obviously been a problem for us, that goes without saying. If you don't take chances when you create them, especially when they are so hard to create in this division, then it is always going to be an issue."

Robinson predicts Parker to reject offer as Tottenham interview lined up

Tottenham target Scott Parker would turn down the opportunity to manage England's Under-21s to stay in club football.

That is the view of former Spurs and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 40-year-old's future after Fulham's relegation was confirmed on Monday.

This site revealed on Monday that Parker features prominently on the FA's shortlist to succeed Aidy Boothroyd along with former Exeter and Bristol Rovers manager Paul Tisdale.

Football Insider understands Parker is also set to be interviewed for the vacant manager's position at Tottenham.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is a big fan of the Fulham boss and is championing his cause behind the scenes.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Parker's options, Robinson said:

"Spurs is a much more lucrative job and one that is a lot more appealing to a younger manager who wants to learn as quickly as possible.

"The Under-21s is a great job because there is a great stack of players coming through the ranks at the moment and the opportunity to develop these players is a special opportunity.

"There is always a frustration with international management at Under-21 though. You have to play with the hand you are dealt because there is no transfer market and if your players do well they get poached by the senior team.

"It is a frustrating job I imagine. It is completely different to club manager.

"What are Scott's aspirations? I think he'd reject an Under-21s offer and rather stay in club management for now."

"Always been the case": Tottenham-linked manager reiterates commitment to current club

Scott Parker commits future to Fulham amid Tottenham Hotspur links

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Football.london), Fulham manager Scott Parker has claimed that he intends to continue at the club amid links with Tottenham Hotspur.

Parker has been in charge at Fulham since late in the 2018/19 campaign, when the Cottagers were relegated. Having led them back to the Premier League in his first full season in charge of the club, the 40-year-old has forged a solid team at Craven Cottage.

However, Fulham could not avoid another relegation from the Premier League with their fate being confirmed after the loss to Burnley.

Even though his side will now go down to the Championship, Parker has garnered admirers at Tottenham, with the club looking at him as a potential managerial candidate. The former Spurs midfielder, though, has made it clear that he would like to stay at Fulham and lead another charge for promotion come next season. (h/t Football.london)

"I've been committed since I came here, that's always been the case. I'll be the first to put my point across, along with all the others to get this club back in the league and stay there. That's my main aim, I don't want to come into this league for a season and then be relegated, I want to come into this league and stay in this league and move this club forward."

Parker has done some good work at Craven Cottage with Fulham impressing in spurts over the course of the current season. However, he is still in his first job and may not have the experience needed to deal with a rebuild job that will entail him at Tottenham. Plus, it seems like he still has unfinished business with our London rivals as well.

"Please": Aston Villa fans positive about reported interest in Fulham midfielder

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Fulham's Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa – and some of the club's fans on Twitter are buzzing with the speculation ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, Dean Smith's Villa are monitoring with the 25-year-old following Fulham's relegation from the Premier League.

It is explained that the Cameroon international may be sold now if Fulham receive £20million for his signature, and Villa are looking to improve their squad for next year, which will be helped down to the fact they are in a better financial position to most.

Additionally, the report mentions both Arsenal and Everton as potential suitors for the £67,000-a-week (Spotrac) star as well.

A selection of Villa fans on social media have given a big thumbs up to the idea of targeting Anguissa, with one even comparing the powerhouse to ex-Manchester City and Premier League legend Yaya Toure.

Anguissa has played in 33 of Fulham's 35 league games this season, but has been unable to keep the London club in the top division.

The defensive midfielder has been one of several individuals to shine at Craven Cottage. Unfortunately, as a team collective they've not been decisive enough in both boxes.

He's a strong presence in the centre of the park with a mixture of strength, agility and energy.

The four Fulham players Scott Parker could be without for Southampton clash at St Mary's

Former Southampton midfielder Harrison Reed could miss the Premier League clash at St Mary's on Saturday through injury, with Fulham the visitors to the south coast

Fulham could be without as many as four players for the Premier League clash with Southampton this weekend, including former Saints midfielder Harrison Reed.

Scott Parker's men make the trip to the south coast to face Saints at St Mary's on Saturday, with the Cottagers now preparing for life back in the Championship after relegation was confirmed following a 2-0 defeat against Burnley at Craven Cottage on Monday night.

The game against Saints will be Fulham's first since their fate was confirmed, with Parker's side now having three more Premier League fixtures remaining.

But Fulham could be without some key players for the game against Ralph Hasenhuttl's Southampton this weekend.

Mario Lemina, who is on loan at Fulham from Southampton, is one of them, with the Gabon international unable to face his parent club as part of the loan agreement.

Lemina has played 29 times in total so far this season during his loan spell, scoring once in Fulham's 1-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield in March.

Former Southampton midfielder Reed is another player who could miss the game, with the 26-year-old not featuring for Parker's side since a 1-1 draw with Arsenal last month, due to an unspecified injury.

He has, however, been back in light training this week with Fulham, although he was not in the matchday squad for the defeat against Burnley on Monday night.

A return for Saturday's clash has not been ruled out though, with Fulham set to face a late decision over his availability.

Fellow midfielder Tom Cairney is another player who is battling to try and be fit for the game against Southampton, having been out with a knee injury since December.

Last week, Parker said he was working with the group and heading in the right direction, with a return before the end of the season not ruled out by the Cottagers boss.

However, defender Terence Kongolo is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Kick off at St Mary's on Saturday is at 3pm.

Parker or Mitro – the choice is obvious, isn't it?
The relationship between Fulham's promotion-winning manager and double promotion-winning striker is already dividing fans ahead of what promises to be a gruelling summer – but Rhys knows which side he's on.

I'd like to begin by saying that while keeping both Scott Parker and Aleksandar Mitrović in a bid to secure a third return to the Premier League in six seasons isn't out of the question, their comments immediately after relegation suggest one, or both, could target a new challenge before August.

A flickering flame
While Parker's management has only recently started to come under question following a period of short-lived optimism across February and March, Mitrovic has had the most disappointing season of his senior career.

The 26-year-old's five goals for Serbia across just six days during the most recent international break provided even more questions over the three Premier League strikes he has managed across 25 outings.

A deeper look at the stats show the broader picture, with Mitrovic making just 13 starts for a side that abandoned the style that earned promotion and effectively withdrew the lone striker role in a bid to create defensive solidarity.

"In the end you always finish where you deserve to be."

Those words of Mitrovic to Sky Sports at Craven Cottage were said with a hefty portion of acceptance that the team hadn't done anywhere near enough to earn safety, but maybe a side of shade considering his notable absences.

He added: "We failed today. We failed this season. It's hard to find the words after the performance, after the season. It wasn't good enough; we didn't deserve to stay up.

"I've played football long enough to know that football is an honest game. Sometimes you get it and sometimes you don't. But in the end you always finish where you deserve to be.

"We didn't deserve to stay up this season. Everything we showed was not enough to stay up. It was good at times but overall we finished where we deserved to be.

"It's really sad. I'm really sad for the fans and the people in the club... it's really tough. Tough to find the words.

"We felt tonight that we didn't show the big character the big mentalities, and I think we cracked under the pressure a little bit and, yeah, we just were not good enough, brave enough – you can say whatever you want.

"We were not good enough – we try, we fight, we work hard but we lacked quality a bit at both ends defensively and offensively and in a league like this you get punished."

Adding of his own issues: "Not just for me, but for everyone it's been a challenging and tough season. On a personal level for myself and, yeah... I want to leave it here.

"It's happened a lot of things, but that's football, that's life, and we keep pushing keep going and we have to finish these three games and to see what will happen next."

It was heartbreaking to see the fiery talisman in such sombre mood.

From my point of view, there hasn't been another player quite like Mitrovic during my time supporting Fulham, and that isn't in reference to his ability in front of goal.

Mitro has shown a refreshing passion for playing at Craven Cottage that has particularly resonated with me, and has never suggested that he is on the lookout for bigger and better things, despite his Champions League past.

What next for Parker?
With or without Parker, I have no doubt that Mitrovic would go on to prove himself as the best striker outside the top flight again next season. But in relation to our manager – I have to say I'm less confident.

Our former captain has proved, despite poor results, that he has a brain for football management. Masterminding away wins over Leicester, Everton and Liverpool while earning plaudits from pundits and his former peers.

Having said that, he alluded after the most recent defeat that he is far from content with behind-the-scenes elements that he refused to detail, which might well have been digging away it him for some time.

A poor start to life back in the Championship could result in an uncoupling that is far less mutual than it would be currently, with his stock high enough to earn links to jobs that would usually demand more experience.

While Spurs looks to be a step too far, Bournemouth could well find themselves needing a new manager on arrival in the top flight, with jobs at Crystal Palace and with the England Under 21s also seemingly up for grabs.

He told Sky Sports of his future: "It's not a conversation for tonight. We've got three games left and my job is to get this team to finish the season in the right way.

"After that the discussion we have as a football club for what we need to do to improve will speak for itself.

"We'll make those decisions as a football club and we'll have those discussions. They happen at all good football clubs. We have to be honest and very brutal in terms of what happened this year."

Parker was careful not to commit anything beyond the visit of Newcastle to the legion of fans that want him to remain in west London, and that uncertainty is the last thing the club needs after the rushed pre-season of last year.

Although it's obvious that the former midfield general has given everything he has had to offer since he was first appointed caretaker in 2019, his tenure might now come to a natural conclusion after his 105th game in charge.

For those reasons, I'd be more disappointed to see Mitrovic leave the club on bad terms than Parker on inevitable ones, but remain hopeful that those issues that have caused a fracture can be ironed out as part of the crucial talks with the hierarchy that will follow.

It might well be optimistic, but I do believe there will be a change at the club which will hand Parker the tools to succeed again next season – and sincerely hope that he decides to include our boisterous No. 9 in them.

Tosin: Look Forwards

Tosin provided a frank response when asked how he views Fulham's 2020/21 campaign.

"Unsuccessful, obviously," he said. "We've not accomplished what we set out to do, so it's been an unsuccessful campaign.

"Everyone's quite down about the fact that we've been relegated, but we've got to push on. There's nothing we can do about that now, we just have to keep looking forwards.

"I hope the fans know that we did give 100 per cent. We did fall short, but we're going to try our best to push again next season.

"They've been a huge miss, especially in the home games, we've missed those fans that are able to give you that extra push in home games.

"Next season we'll build again and try and get ourselves back in this league where we all want to be."

When asked what he thinks went wrong for the Whites, Tosin replied: "I couldn't tell you to be honest, I can't put it down to one thing, there's been a few things throughout a lot of different games.

"Some games we've conceded goals which we shouldn't have, which resulted in us not getting the points that we needed, and other games it was not being able to score goals.

"It's been a mix of both ends of the pitch throughout the season really."

The boys will at least want to bow out on a high, with plenty of pride to play for at Southampton on Saturday.

"They're a good team, especially offensively, they create some chances, so we'll have to be switched on, particularly with their attackers," Tosin explained.

"It was a tough game [0-0 at Craven Cottage on Boxing Day], one in which we had to concentrate quite a lot defensively.

"Obviously nobody managed to get a goal but hopefully we can do so this time around.

"Everyone wants to leave their stamp on this league, and we've got three games to do so.

"As a team, individually and collectively, we want to perform to the best of our abilities to leave that stamp."

Tottenham trying to convince €30m centre-back to snub Arsenal and sign up

Tottenham are reportedly ready to try and convince on-loan Fulham centre-back Joachim Andersen to join them over north London rivals Arsenal this summer.

Andersen's displays for the relegated Cottagers have caught the eye this season, although the 24-year-old is set to return to parent club Lyon at the end of the campaign. The defender has made 29 appearances for the Craven Cottage outfit this term, scoring once.

Spurs' interest was first reported by BT in Denmark, after it emerged the player would not extend his stay at Fulham.

The Denmark international is open to a permanent switch to the Premier League, as reported by Jeunes Footeux (via Sport Witness). However, it would appear that Tottenham will have to overcome interest from the Gunners to get their man.

The report adds that Daniel Levy remains in pole position to land the defender, although Arsenal have also enquired.

Lyon paid €25m to bring the Dane to the club in 2019 and want their money back on any potential transfer. In fact, they are looking for nearer to €30m for the former Sampdoria star.

Finally, the report claims that for Spurs to win the race they will need to 'convince' Andersen to join.

That move may prove difficult while a new manager is not in place, but Tottenham want to rectify that as soon as the season ends.

Ironically, Fulham boss Scott Parker has emerged as a top contender for the job. If that deal is struck then a deal for Andersen would be seemingly easier to push through, given the duo's connection at Craven Cottage.

Scott Parker faces 'tough decision' as Tottenham next manager search goes on

Jose Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham last month and Ryan Mason is currently in interim charge, but who should Spurs nail down as their future boss?

Former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov has given a glowing recommendation of Fulham manager Scott Parker amid links to the vacant Spurs' hot seat.

Interim coach Ryan Mason has had an indifferent start since being handed the reigns after Jose Mourinho's sacking last month. The former England international has won two of his four games at the helm, comfortably dispatching Sheffield United and Southampton.

However, Spurs were outclassed in the EFL Cup final by Manchester City and fell to another defeat in last week's Premier League match with Leeds United. That defeat at Elland Road all-but confirmed there would be no Champions League football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

The North London side sit seventh in the table, just one point ahead of fierce rivals Arsenal, who have played an extra game. Confirming a Europa League spot via a top-six finish could be crucial financially given the economic burden of the pandemic.

However, it is still not clear who will be managing Spurs next season with a host of managers being linked to the job. One of those names is Fulham boss Parker, who has been unlucky to see his side relegated from the league with three games to go.

And Parker's ex-teammate Berbatov thinks the former Tottenham midfielder could be the perfect candidate to take them forward.

"Scott Parker is a great coach, I have seen first-hand at the training ground how he conducts himself," Berbatov told Betfair. "The big question for me is will he stay if Spurs come calling? Keeping hold of him isn't going to be an easy task for Fulham, but they need to because he will have a tough decision to make if Spurs come calling.

"He's tasted managing in the Premier League and I think he knows he's capable of doing good things, the question is whether or not that is with Fulham or someone else."

Reed passed fit to return against Saints

Harrison Reed has recovered from an ankle injury and is ready to face his former club Southampton.

Fulham's ex-Saints midfielder has been back in full training since Wednesday.

"He's come out of a couple of days' training and he'll be fit for the weekend," Whites boss Scott Parker confirmed.

Defender Terence Kongolo is ruled out for the season and club captain Tom Cairney is slowly making his way back to full fitness.

Although the visit to St Mary's is a dead rubber given that Fulham are already relegated, Parker insists players need to be mindful about their futures.

He said: "The players have a job to do. They're in the biggest and the most spotlighted league in the world bar none, and every week you go out and have that spotlight shining on you.

"Relegated or not, there's a pride and a professionalism, and that's my message first and foremost to the team, and these are the moments where you really see what people are made of and what certain traits they have in their character.

"In this moment of adversity, there's a lot of excuse for maybe one or another who doesn't need to perform at this level – but the facts are they do."

Parker unsure whether Fulham will try to keep Aina and Maja

Scott Parker says he does not yet know whether Fulham will attempt to keep Ola Aina and Josh Maja.

Striker Maja and former Chelsea defender Aina seem the most likely of Fulham's seven on-loan players to end up playing for them in the Championship next season.

Head coach Parker says their futures won't be discussed until the end of the season.

He said: "I don't know where the players are, (in terms of) what they cost and at this moment it's not something that's in the forefront of my mind.

"There's also other elements; finances, players' contracts. There's a whole load of different avenues and that's why we need to sit down and work out the best way.

"After the final game we need to sit down and work out what are the best plans to go forward; recruitment, who we buy, who we don't buy, who we sell."

Fulham's Stefan Johansen wanted by QPR but deal is 'complicated' – Cottagers' stance unclear

QPR 'want to keep' Stefan Johansen, reports West London Sport, but the move is 'less straightforward'.

The news from West London Sport comes amid that of Charlie Austin's potentially permanent move to the club from West Brom – he and his Baggies teammate Sam Field look set to stay in West London.

They were one of four loan players that came in over January and transformed the Rs' season – the others being Jordy de Wijs and Johansen.

De Wijs has also signed permanently and that just leaves Johansen. For many QPR fans, Johansen should be the club's no.1 summer transfer priority.

The Fulham man shone in his 21 Championship appearances for QPR scoring four goals from midfield. But West London Sport reports that the deal is a little more complicated.

Fulham's stance on the 30-year-old is unknown given their return to the Championship. He still has a year remaining on his contract with the Cottagers and West London Sport says it is 'unclear whether Fulham will look to keep him', or even if 'other clubs' come in for him.

Johansen has already made his intentions to stay in London clear, but which team that will be with remains anyone's guess.

QPR ended the Championship season in 9th-place of the table – a stark improvement on their 13th-place finish last time round, with fans gearing up for a top-six push next season.

Thoughts?

Johansen is arguably one of the classiest and most technically-gifted midfielders that QPR fans have ever seen. He oozes quality and his permanent signing could well be the difference for Warburton's side going into what looks like a penultimate season under the former Brentford boss.

He still has Tom Carroll to welcome back. The club are looking to keep him on board going into next season after signing a one-year deal last summer – QPR could be left short in midfield though if neither Carroll or Johansen are kept.

David Moyes to make new move for Aleksandar Mitrovic because he is convinced he can be a success at West Ham - journalist claims

West Ham United will make a new move for Fulham outcast Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer.

David Moyes is convinced Mitrovic can succeed at West Ham despite failing once again to prove himself at Premier League level this season.

That's according to Turkish football reporter Ekrem Konur and a report from The Daily Mail.

West Ham to reignite interest in Mitrovic?

Konur claims West Ham will launch a bid for Mitrovic in the summer.

It comes after West Ham were heavily linked with the Serbian last summer.

"West Ham are keeping a close eye on Aleksandar Mitrovic's situation," Konour claimed on Twitter.

"David Moyes believes Mitrovic can succeed at West Ham. Formal contacts are expected to be established between the two clubs in the summer."

The Daily Mail also claimed Moyes wants the forward at the London Stadium.

"Aleksandar Mitrovic is admired by West Ham manager David Moyes," the Mail's report states.

It comes as Moyes looks to add a new forward to this summer after selling Sebastien Haller in January.

West Ham are desperate to seal a permanent deal for Jesse Lingard.

But a striker has to be a priority for Moyes too after another injury plagued campaign for Michail Antonio which – alongside the injury to Declan Rice – looks set to cost West Ham a place in the Champions League.

If the reports about Mitrovic are true, he joins a list of five strikers West Ham are reportedly weighing up ahead of the next window.

The Hammers have been heavily linked with Abdallah Sima, Ivan Toney, Youssef En-Nesyri, Tammy Abraham and Adam Armstrong.

West Ham's budget for a striker remains to be seen.

Recent reports have cast doubt on the funds available to Moyes, much to the anger of West Ham fans.

Supporters will not forget that West Ham have £20m banked from the Haller sale.

But co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold risk ruining the positivity around the club if they do not provide Moyes with funds to adequately improve the squad.

Relegated Sheffield United approach Slavisa Jokanovic to replace Chris Wilder... with former Fulham and Watford boss available for FREE once his contract at Al-Gharafa expires next month

The position of Sheffield United boss has been vacant since Chris Wilder left
Caretaker boss Paul Heckingbottom has lost seven of his eight games in charge
But they have approached Slavisa Jokanovic two months on from Wilder leaving
Jokanovic's contract with current club Al-Gharafa in Qatar expires next month

Slavisa Jokanovic has been interviewed for the Sheffield United manager's job.

The position has been vacant since Chris Wilder left the club in March and the Blades have now spoken to Jokanovic.

Paul Heckingbottom has been in caretaker duty since Wilder's departure but has lost seven of eight games in charge.

Jokanovic's contract with current club Al-Gharafa expires next month meaning he can join for nothing, though the Serb is not the only man on the Blades' radar and it is unclear whether he is the club's No 1 target.

The 52-year-old has gained promotion from the Championship into the Premier League twice with Fulham and Watford, an obvious attraction for United given their relegation from the top-flight.

Sportsmail revealed last month that Jokanovic was considering a return to England after finishing the regular Qatar season on a high with Al-Gharafa.

Jokanovic saw his Al Gharafa side cap off their Qatar Stars League campaign with a comprehensive 5-1 away success over Umm Salal to climb up from sixth and land a fourth-place finish and a spot in the AFC Champions League qualifying play-offs.

Since taking up the reins at Al Gharafa in June 2019, Jokanovic has overseen an upturn in the team's fortunes as the side became one of the revelations in the QSL.

Reports have meanwhile suggested the Blades hierarchy has drawn up at least a five-man shortlist to replace Wilder.

German Alexander Blessin, currently in charge of Belgian side Oostende, and Lincoln City's Michael Appleton have also been linked with the vacancy.

No doubt ort seven loan players will be away at the end of the season and already we have rumours of others leaving. Anguissa to Arsenal, Parker to Spurs, Mitro to Shefield U. or West Ham.
I will be sorry to see any of these leave but would much rather an early decision than seeing them go right at the end of the window and leaving gaps in the squad at the start of next season.
