Did the club not report it as a club option, ie an extension, rather than a new contract as such? It's less a reward, and more the club operating somewhat sensibly?

Ream may be regularly available and he may give his all but most players do. Those traits alone aren't enough which is why it is time to find a regular permanent partner for Tosin that isn't one of the old guard who we know aren't good enough for an ambitious team like Fulham.

Hector, surely

Don't actually think there's much between Hector and Tosin in terms of ability

I think our best centre backs are Tosin, Hector, Mawson and Kongolo, but I think all four will be fit for half dozen games next season and potential at least three will injuried for a dozen games next season.

MLM, Ream and Odoi are much needed squad players, especially if Parker wants to close out games with three-four CBs. We need three centre backs as good or netter than Ream in every matchday 18 next season. In addition, if there are injuries in midfielder or full backs, we may need to start with three CBs.

If this is true, its good news for Fulham. Ream is quality and will do well in the Championship.
There is only one Fulham Football Club.

If we are on top of teams he does well as his distribution is good, and his one or brain farts a game dont usually get punished. Hope he isnt first choice though...

With Andersen gone we will see just how important he was to our defence.  You do not miss things until they are gone.  It'll be a severe test for those left behind and, as always, I'll try to judge players on performances in real time and not on fanciful (and often false) memories.  It is far too easy to have scapegoats for everything and anything in this day and age.  Real life gets played out once and once only and the if only's pile up minute after minute.

We started the first half of 2019/20 with Mawson and Ream partnership, both top players in my opinion, but a pretty terrible partnership both having a lack of height and lack of pace. Mawson with his good ball distribution is wasted next to Ream with his excellent ball distribution, both next to Tosin or Kongolo would look much better.

The weakness of the Mawson/Ream partnership was especially noticeable against counter-attacking teams were moving the ball from defensive to attack didn't require much skill (as they already got back) which those two had, but stopping a counter-attack once started was extremely difficult and something both of them didn't have, to make matter worse Bryan often got caught out of position too far up the field unable to support them.

Next season we have a number of potential partners that are better than Mawson/Ream, including Tosin with anyone of five CBs, Kongolo with anyone of four CBs, Hector/Ream,  and Mawson with anyone faster than Ream. In addition, if Ream or Mawson are playing, having a left full-back as fast as Robinson will help significantly with support and even if Bryan is playing another full-back that can get forward would help him get less targeted.
