Norwich City targeting Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo

Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo is a target for Norwich City, as per a report by The Athletic.

Fulham could face a battle to keep hold of the defender following their relegation to the Championship.

Norwich are waving past the Cottagers on their way up to the Premier League and are plotting potential summer signings.

Adarabioyo, who is 24 years old, is under contract at Craven Cottage until June 2023.

The ex-England youth international joined Fulham last summer and made 34 appearances in all competitions as they slipped to relegation to the second tier.

Adarabioyo started his career at Manchester City and rose up through the youth ranks of the current Premier League champions. He went on to make eight appearances for the North West side.

The 6ft 5inc defender gained his first taste of regular first-team football on loan in the Championship at West Brom in the 2017/18 season.

Blackburn Rovers then came calling for the campaign after and he played 35 times for Tony Mowbray's side.

Fulham lured him away from Manchester City on a permanent basis and he impressed for the London club despite their tough past 12 months.

Norwich are gearing up for life back in the top flight and could hand Adarabioyo a Premier League lifeline to boost their defensive options.

Daniel Farke's side will be looking to get their recruitment right this summer to avoid another relegation.

Nottingham Forest could still secure fresh swoop for 28-y/o despite recent contract reveal from EFL club

Nottingham Forest could still secure a permanent move for Fulham defender Cyrus Christie this summer despite a one-year extension having been triggered in his deal at Craven Cottage, according to Nottinghamshire Live.

Christie spent the season on loan with Nottingham Forest and the right-back managed to make 44 appearances in the Championship, registering three assists and helping the Reds record 14 clean sheets.

The 28-year-old was due to be a free-agent in the summer with his current deal set to run out with Fulham, but they have now confirmed he has been handed a one-year extension.

That suggests that the defender might well be in Scott Parker's plans for their return to the Championship and that they are keen for him to stick around and be a part of their squad for next season.

However, according to the latest report from Nottinghamshire Live, Chris Hughton's side could still potentially make a permanent move for Christie this summer despite his contract situation at Fulham.

That is because it is believed that the Reds still hold an option to buy the defender from Fulham when the transfer window reopens. However, it is not known as of yet whether Nottingham Forest would be keen to activate that option or not.

The Verdict

You would expect Nottingham Forest to be interested in potentially turning Christie's loan move into a permanent one given that he was virtually an ever-present during his loan spell with them. The right-back got off to a difficult start to life at the City Ground but he did show a lot of improvements to his form as the campaign progressed.

Christie is a solid enough right-back at Championship level, but now that Forest are going to have to pay a fee for him to bring him in permanently they might want to consider other potential alternatives. There will be some supporters who feel they need better quality in that position if they are able to mount a challenge for promotion next term in the English second tier.

It appears that the situation is all in Forest's hands now and if Hughton wants to re-sign him, he will have the chance to do so. It might come down to how much their option to buy is for and whether they feel they could get better value for money by bringing in another option instead.

Fulham confirm Maxime Le Marchand contract extension

Fulham have confirmed that Maxime Le Marchand will remain at Craven Cottage this summer.

What's the latest?

That's according to a statement posted on the club's official website in which the Cottagers confirmed that they have exercised their option to extend the centre-back's current deal for a further season, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

Fans will be furious

Considering how infrequently Le Marchand has featured for Fulham since joining the club in a £3.6m deal from Nice back in the summer of 2018, the news that the club have further extended the defender's deal comes as something of a surprise and could well infuriate fans of the west London club.

Over his three years with the Cottagers so far, the £1.44m-rated man has made just 48 appearances in all competitions, scoring no goals and providing one assist along the way.

Last season, the centre-back featured just twice in the Premier League for Scott Parker's side, failing to help his team keep a clean sheet, as well as averaging a mere one tackle and 1.5 interceptions per game. These metrics saw the £24,000-per-week 31-year-old earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.75, ranking him as Fulham's 12th-worst performer in the English top flight.

Indeed, it became clear that Parker had no use for the player – whom Tony Khan dubbed a "valuable" asset – back in February, when the manager allowed Le Marchand to leave the club on a temporary basis to join Royal Antwerp for the remainder of the season.

Thanks for the memories, Kevin McDonald

Friday's announcement that Kevin McDonald would be leaving Fulham at the end of the month felt inevitable but it still tugged at the heart strings a little bit. McDonald, the heartbeat of this side for so long, has far bigger things to worry about than his contractual situation at present as he recovers from his kidney transplant – but the outpouring of emotion as Fulham fans reacted to the news showed just how important he has been in SW6 over recent years. The word legend is horribly overused in sports punditry these days, but McDonald is a bona fide Fulham one as much for his contributions in and around the dressing room as on the field.

The Scottish midfielder became a cult hero during his time at Craven Cottage, slotting in successfully to a problem position at the base of Slavisa Jokanovic's midfield after Fulham finally concluded their lengthy pursuit of his signature with Wolves in the summer of 2016. McDonald has spoken about how the Serbian head coach changed his game by playing him in a deeper role than he had ever played before and it worked to perfection. The triumvirate of McDonald, Stefan Johansen and Tom Cairney were in many ways the critical part of Jokanovic's success – becoming a delight to watch as their pretty passing ripped through Championship opposition, especially when the Whites went half a season undefeated.

McDonald often controlled games, even when not on the ball, a metronome who sat just ahead of the centre backs and ensured that the Whites were ticking over correctly. He was always one to be trusted, providing a sense of solidity when Fulham's defence was notoriously leaky. However, the 6'4″ Scottish international also proved to be more than capable with the ball at his feet, with his elegant passing providing the foundations for more conventional flair players, like Cairney, to influence proceedings higher up the pitch.

McDonald, of course, was not short of his own moments of magic. In different ways, his goals against Barnsley, Leeds and Millwall will live long in the memory. His magnificent strike at the Den will be etched in Fulham fans' minds for ever – topping off a brilliant awayday with some raucous celebrations. It finished off a superb team display on a high-pressure occasion for the Whites and the technical excellence of his astonishing 25-yard screamer should never be discounted either. .

But perhaps McDonald's most important influence was one which the fans never truly saw. He was clearly a leader on the field, but his ferocious will-to-win and reassuring words around the dressing room, which we glimpsed with the snippets of footage and photographs of the celebrations following the Wembley victory over Aston Villa, definitely resonated with his team-mates. You can be certain McDonald was critical to the camaraderie that carried Jokanovic's side through the magnificent run in the second half of the 2017/2018 season.

We have seen tantalising glimpses of his character. He's been engaging with the fans, but never sought the limelight. Many of his acts of kindness – sending messages to supporters who have been seriously ill or videos of support to those struggling with coronavirus – arrived privately, a mark of the man. There have been hilarious interludes in public, such as attesting to the accuracy of the Fulham fans cheeky ditty in his honour to Ivan Berry, or the revealing stories that featured in his engaging chat with former team-mate Si Ferry.

If we didn't already know about McDonald's bravery, we were convinced of it by the way he faced up to his kidney surgery – going public in order to educate others about the disease and what help was available. It may have brought his playing career to a premature end, but frankly it is remarkable that he scaled such heights whilst battling his body for fourteen years in professional football. His two promotions with Fulham are made all the more remarkable. We wish both Kevin and his brother, who donated his own kidney, well in their ongoing recovery.

There are still questions marks about where McDonald's career goes from here. He has already passed on some of his insights to Fulham's academy stars as he studies for his coaching badges. A move into coaching would allow McDonald to continue to influence the game that he loves and there's no doubt that he would carry the respects of his peers into a new role. That, of course, is for the future. I'm certain we haven't heard the last of Kevin McDonald. Alongside all Fulham fans, we wish him all the best for his recovery – and it isn't just sentiment that has me hoping that we'll see him in the dugout at Craven Cottage at some point in the future.

Bournemouth plan to replace Woodgate with Parker

Bournemouth are planning to replace Jonathan Woodgate with Fulham manager Scott Parker, according to the Sun.

The Cherries are ready to move on from Woodgate, who took over from Jason Tindall on an interim basis, after they were beaten in the Championship play off semi-finals by Brentford. The south coast club are confident of being able to lure the 40 year-old away from Fulham after the club's relegation from the top flight.

They believe that Parker is open to moving on after disputes with Fulham hierarchy and that he would be open to exploring a new challenge. Parker has previously figured heavily on Bournemouth's managerial shortlist but their plans to appoint him as a successor to Eddie Howe failed when Fulham won promotion via the Championship play-offs last summer.

Parker's stature within the game remains strong despite Fulham's collapse in the final ten games of the season that cost them their top flight status. Fulham are still planning to start the new season with Parker in charge at Craven Cottage and would resist any attempts by suitors to lure him elsewhere.

Manchester City line up move for Robinson

Manchester City are preparing a shock move for Fulham full back Antonee Robinson, according to the Sun.

Pep Guardiola is planning to overhaul his squad after City's Champions' League final disappointment and aims to sign younger players for the future. The 23 year-old's athleticism and attacking instincts appeal to Guardiola and the English champions believe that a £10m bid would be enough to persuade Fulham to part with a player they only signed last summer from Wigan.

Robinson made 35 appearances in his debut season for Fulham, quickly displacing the club's Wembley hero Joe Bryan at left back, and impressed despite the blow of relegation. The former Everton trainee has won eleven caps for the United States and helped the Americans qualify for the CONCACAF Nations League final in his first start for his country earlier this week.

Toon duo transfer listed, Fulham eye Gayle, trio want Woodman & offers arrive for U23 stars – Report

The Chronicle's Mark Douglas has shared a few intriguing transfer nuggets in his latest piece on potential summer business at St James' Park.

First off, he reports that we are listening to offers for Florian Lejeune and Yoshinori Muto, signalling that Steve Bruce won't give either a second chance on Tyneside – despite the fact the former has impressed during a loan spell in Spain with Alaves.

Another player who looks likely to be sold to boost his limited budget is Dwight Gayle, with Douglas revealing that Fulham have recently reignited their interest in the striker.

The Chronicle report that he, along with Freddie Woodman, are seen as our most 'saleable assets' this summer, although it seems the club will be more reluctant to cash in on the latter.

Woodman is believed to be attracting interest from Celtic, Southampton and Arsenal, however Newcastle are expected to insist on inserting a hefty sell-on clause should we decide to cash in following his latest impressive loan spell at Swansea.

Last but not least, the piece reveals that Championship side Luton remain keen on bringing Elliot Anderson to the club on loan – a move that Bruce is believed to have blocked back in January.

Elsewhere, it's said Peruvian talent Rodrigo Vilca could swap U23 football for a temporary move away in the coming months, having received interest from Holland, Belgium, League One and the Championship ahead of an upcoming 'transfer summit' to decide his next steps.

Making sense of Fulham's release and retained lists

Fulham confirmed their released and retained lists on Friday night – with plenty of question marks over several of the decisions and the club's plans for a return to the Championship in the 201/22 campaign.

Only Kevin McDonald features on the released list from the senior squad and his departure is understandable following his kidney transplant. There are several exits from the youth team set-up. Fulham have decided to release Julian Schwarzer, son of former Fulham goalkeeper Mark, whose second spell with the club has come to an end after he was brought back to Motspur Park as keeping cover. Jordan Aina, brother of Ola, has been let go after just a season with the club, whilst Martell Taylor-Crossdale, brought in from Chelsea in 2019, has formerly left the club having struggled to make an impression with the under 23s. The striker's departure is not a surprise after he was sent back from Colchester on loan and Taylor-Crossdale spent time on trial with QPR earlier in the season.

Ryan De Havilland, a midfielder who occasionally featured at under 23 level, has also left the club after four years, whilst Luca Murphy – whose acrimonious move from Hartlepool two years ago hit the headlines – was also released. Two full backs, Lesley Duru and Jaydn Mundle-Smith are also searching for new employers and Jayden Harris also moves on after more than decade with the club.

Fulham formally confirmed that all seven loanees players have headed back to their parent clubs as expected. Lemina, Aina, Andersen and Areola made their mark whilst at the club, as regular first-team players who put in some outstanding performances, they were not enough to rescue the Whites from the drop. Lookman showed early promise, but it felt as though he wilted as the season went on. Maja returns to cash-strapped Bordeaux after an uneventful loan spell, although his debut brace at Everton did hint at real promise and that penalty at Arsenal briefly sparked hope of another great escape. Ruben Loftus-Cheek goes back to the Stamford Bridge bench, where he will still move more than he did at Craven Cottage pitch as he models for BooHooMan.

Seven players have been seen their one-year extension options activated. Tyrese Francois, the talented Australian midfielder who made his first-team debut against Southampton in 2019 and came off the bench on the final day of the season against Newcastle, is among these. Cyrus Christie will be at the Cottage for another year after spending this season on loan with Nottingham Forest and Maxime Le Marchand, who made sixteen appearances and scored three goals at Royal Antwerp in the second half of the season, is also contracted for another year.

Jerome Opoku has been rewarded for another encouraging loan spell – this time with League One Plymouth – with an extension, which may allow him to make an impression on the first team set up. Given the surfeit of centre backs now at Parker's disposal another loan might be more likely, with a Championship destination a possibility this time. Terry Ablade has been earned an extension of his own after lively displays for the under-23 side and has been joined by the Ghanaian-American central defender Eric Ameyaw and defensive midfielder, Jonathan Page.

There was also confirmation of Tim Ream's new deal, which the American spoke about in the run-up to his current international duty. Fulham have also agreed new terms with Marlon Fossey, the attacking right back, who has been so unlucky with serious knee injuries over the past two seasons. Luca Ashby-Hammond, the highly-rated England youth international goalkeeper, has put pen to paper on a new contract after another strong season with the under 23s, whilst older brother Taye has been offered a new deal.

Several of the club's academy starlets have been offered new contracts. These include exciting English forward Mika Biereth, who scored 21 goals in 22 games as the under 18s retained their Premier League south title. Jean-Pierre Tiéhi, who registered ten goals in 23 games at under-23 level, is also considering a new contract. Scottish centre back pairing Connor McAvoy and Ibane Bowat, pivotal to the under 18s success this year, have been offered new deals whilst Luciano D'Auria-Henry, who stepped up to the under 23s at right back, and Idris Odutayo are also in the process of securing their futures at Motspur Park.

Finally, Fulham revealed they remain in dialogue with long-serving goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, whose contract expires at the end of the month. You would imagine that Marek Rodak remains ahead of Bettinelli, whose loan spell with Middlesbrough ended in disappointment as he was dropped by Neil Warnock towards the end of the season, but he will always retain a place in the hearts of the Fulham faithful, especially following his exploits after coming back in the team that Slavisa Jokanovic guided to promotion.

Fulham manager Scott Parker emerges as potential target for Championship rivals

Bournemouth have placed Fulham manager Scott Parker on top of their list of options to replace Jonathan Woodgate should they decide to go in a different direction this summer, according to The Sun.

According to the latest report from The Sun, Woodgate is in danger of being moved on by Bournemouth after he failed to guide the Cherries to the Premier League despite getting them into the play-offs. It is believed that there are now plans in place to make a change in the dugout ahead of next season.

Bournemouth chairman Jeff Mostyn has already recently spoken to the BBC and confirmed that the Cherries are closing in on the appointment of a new manager. That suggested that Woodgate would not be the man to take charge of their efforts to gain promotion next term.

The latest report from The Sun reveals that Parker is now the manager on their radar as they aim to make a second attempt at luring him to the club. That comes after they had previously tried to appoint him following Eddie Howe's departure last summer.

The report also suggests that Parker might decide to make the switch from Fulham to Bournemouth because he could not keep the club in the Premier League last term. Bournemouth view him as the right man for the job because of the job he did in taking his current side to promotion in 2019/20.

The verdict

This is certainly an appointment that would come right out of the blue. Parker is a manager that still has considerable credit still in the bank in terms of his reputation in the game despite taking Fulham back down to the Championship. It would therefore be a statement of intent for the Cherries to lure him in from a promotion rival ahead of next term.

Bournemouth got a lot of key decisions wrong off the field last term, from their decision to hire Jason Tindall to then perhaps entrusting Woodgate to be the man to lead them to promotion. They will be determined now to find the right manager to lead what is a very talented squad at the moment back to the Premier League where they should be.

Parker would be an excellent appointment given he already has a promotion on his CV and plays in the right kind of way in terms of style of play. He is also a bright up-and-coming manager with room to grow and he will have learned a lot from his time in charge of Fulham.

Fulham interested in deal for senior Newcastle United man

Fulham are interested in a move for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle this summer, a report from The Chronicle has revealed.

It was been a frustrating campaign for Gayle at St James' Park during the 2020/21 season, with the 31-year-old making just 18 league appearances, scoring once, for Steve Bruce's side.

The Cottagers were credited with an interest in Gayle back in the January transfer window, and it now seems as though that remains the case, despite their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.

According to this latest update, Fulham are still keen on Gayle, although it seems they may not have it easy in securing a deal for the striker.

It is thought that Newcastle are set to announce a new three-year contract for Gayle imminently, which will secure his future with the Magpies until the end of the 2023/24 season.

In total, Gayle, who spent the 2018/19 on loan in the Championship with West Brom from Newcastle, has made 113 appearances in all competitions for the North East club, scoring 34 goals in that time.

The Verdict

I do think that this would be a very good signing for Fulham if they are able to pull it off.

With the future of Aleksandar Mitrovic seemingly set to be the subject of much speculation this summer, and Josh Maja only on loan at Craven Cottage, it does seem as though they may need to add to their attacking ranks during the market.

Given his proven ability to score the goals in the Championship from his time with the likes of Newcastle and West Brom, Gayle could be a decent candidate to fill that role, and he would surely relish the opportunity of more game time following a frustrating few years at St James'.

However, with Newcastle seemingly set to hand Gayle that new contract, it may be hard for Fulham to get this one done, since Newcastle will be in a strong position to negotiate any offers that do come in for him.

I thought we had loads of players who can't score goals, so why get another, only 1 in 18 appearances. We need someone who has scored high teens and twenties even if they come from a Div 1/2 side. Look at the success Brentford has had with this approach and Jamie Vardy. A goal scorer will always score as long as they get the service.
