"Hughes To Go If Fulham Do Not Beat West Ham" (no excrement Sherlock?)

we do need to look at hughes. talk about the aging of squad if you want, but you do not age more than 3 months in, err, 3 months, which will not significantly effect a players performance at all. infact, at the beginning of a season you'll be more physically optimised than at the end of a 57 game season. so i dont buy this age excuse at all, and anyway our ressies last year done west ham at home 3-2. however i do think hughes can turn it around based on how well he did at blackburn as long as he can get a couple of people in in january.

and the people are notorious for being full of s*** so don't take this article seriously.

As I've just said on another thread about this, who's to say the chairman hasn't had a word with the club captain and discovered it's not a happy squad at the moment?

Having said that, I'm not sure this holds any water anyway.

Cheers for that. Where would we be without your esoteric contributions?

(i.e. it's a Fulham forum, or would you prefer all discussions be conducted in "+1s" and pictures of women in their 40s?)

If we win on Boxing Day great. If we win on Boxing Day to a chorus or two of Mark Hughes and the black and white army even better. The latter is'nt happening at the moment and if it does'nt happen on Boxing Day it could be as significant as the result. Who operates a business plan that fails to have an element of respect and trust to it.
If we lose or succeed in an inept draw the boo's will be louder as I'm sure the Spam fans will be jubilant with that point. If MAF is going to ring the changes it would have to be before the cup game. For many reasons, giving Hughes time being one of them, I would'nt mind the Spam and Stoke games being off taking us closer to the January window and more substance to the rumours about who is coming. Quality players might earn Hughes a reprieve and MAF will pay out. We have heard and seen nothing about Hamiche, apart from his injury, and Dembele and Salcido are still in the 'might do' category, again down to injury. If MAF thinks the quality Hughes can attract is not good enough, the apathy from the stands remains the same and if, as has been suggested, the team is not as one then I think the MAF heart will take over and Hughes will be gone. To be honest I have yet to see any development or improvement and the game plans look lacklustre. Who is to say that somebody who has worked with the team, knows the team and "gets it" won't be able to turn things round . . . . .  and secure 15th !

If we sack Hughes it's an absolute disgrace. He's the right man for us.

I don't think it would be a 'disgrace'. I would not be surprised if it happened, but I do agree that he should be given more time (and some funds in January) before we consider pressing any panic buttons.
English by birth, Fulham by the grace of God.

The squad needs a do over! Too old and slow. Getting rid of Hughes would be a mistake. 2 or 3 first teamers brought in and we'll be on our way to winning!

We've been on our way for some time but it seems a hell of a long journey. More of a holy grail quest than a short haul flight.

Let's take Mark Hughes out of the equation, shall we?

Any owner who hires a manager in August with just minutes to go before the season starts, and then fires the same manager before the transfer period begins in January is BOTH

more interested in keeping his name in the press than he is in the welfare of the club AND

stupid enough to repeat the same mistake -- not giving the manager enough time to learn his squad and select adequate replacements.

Am I the only one who thinks that MAF is neither of these things? When folks like us moan about certain players in the game-day squad as being useless, what we're really saying that the manager is stupid. By the same token, when we buy into this "you have to win on this day against this team or you're out," we're saying "Our owner is an egomaniacal dolt with no long-term memory." Y'all may be comfortable taking that stance, but I'm certainly not.

HatterDon, I bet MAF loves to get his name in the press!

More seriously, at what point do you think that Hughes should be fired? (assuming a continuation of <1 pt per game; obviously if he improves he won't get fired)

After a draw or loss to West Ham?
A hammering by Spurs?
A draw to West Brom?
A draw to Stoke?
A humiliating hammering by Chelsea?

At the halfway stage (plus a few friendlies), he's had more than enough time.

West Ham would be the perfect time to fire Hughes, failing a win. This is the easiest game in the league - if he can't win this, then he's beyond getting to know the squad, or making the necessary improvements. Whether he's a good manager or not, if you doesn't beat West Ham, then he's not the right fit (although I'd argue that the defending Karl Henry over the Zamora leg break, refusing to shake hands of an opposition manager and scapegoating lady luck shows that he's a bad fit).

The new manager needs time to make improvements to the squad.

This is a fantastic thread. Great input and lot of interesting perspectives. I still lean towards the AFC/IW perspective but am willing to give Hughes a little more time but, if he gets sacked......I won't moan or be sad.

Me-ate-Live, innit??

Martin O'Neill is a big pal of Mo's,  the timing was not right when Cookie got sacked, nor when Roy left  but he is Jobless right now.
Mo would never sanction Jol after he lied about his contract .............
But I would say Mark Hughes and his very large possie are in the driving seat on this one and will not be sacked so soon ..............................too many positions to fill and too much compo if Fulham made the first move .......................
It will be a case of who blinks first .....

Lighthouse

It is all down to timing. ATM there are a few names out of work. This may be a time for Big AL to feel a change will work. But didn't we apend so much time trying to find the right manager to take over from the fleeing Hodgson, lose Jol and then spend even more time trying to find the right man. If he is sacked before spending any money in the transfer window, who is to say the right manager will be found?

If Hughes goes then I have a feeling Big Al will take his money and go too. Hodgson had the chance to spend big on players like AJ (strange nobody blames Roy for that but blame AJ). But changing a manager now will mean Al doesn't want to spend big again. Maybe it is time for Al to think enough is enough.

Or there is the option that Hughes and his staff may just walk out claiming lack of investment.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope
