Fulham fans think Steve Cooper is on his way

The speculation this afternoon from Fulham supporters is that Steve Cooper is on way to open talks regards a possible appointment as manager at Craven Cottage.

The news is spreading as well on the clubs fans forums confirming that there is some weight to this latest Cooper story. They do seem pretty underwhelmed by the news, but both clubs will want this sorts out as soon as is possible.

Swansea are busying themselves inquiring about numerous players, Joel Piroe and Thomas Henry at the forefront clearly with an eye on utilising the funds they would get in compensation if Cooper and Marsh were to leave.

An end to this speculation is all the supporters of both clubs want, here's hoping this finalises itself either way before the clubs report back for training.

Bournemouth 'closing in on Scott Parker appointment'

Bournemouth have reportedly edged closer to appointing Fulham boss Scott Parker as their new manager.

Following Fulham's relegation from the Premier League, Parker's future at Craven Cottage has been in doubt and it is believed that the 40-year-old has agreed with the club to terminate his contract.

The Cherries' current boss Jonathan Woodgate is under contract at the Vitality Stadium until July 1, but is expected to be replaced by Parker this weekend.

Bournemouth's players are set to return for pre-season testing on Saturday and begin training on Monday, and according to the Evening Standard, the club wish for Parker to have a full summer with his new squad.

Woodgate could not guide Bournemouth through last season's playoffs but Parker has successful experiences in the Championship having guided Fulham to Wembley success in 2020.

The 2021-22 Championship campaign begins on the weekend of August 7 and Bournemouth will welcome West Bromwich Albion to the South Coast on the opening day.

'Not as straightforward as some might feel' – Steve Cooper facing big decision involving Fulham and Swansea: The verdict

This article is part of Football League World's 'The Verdict' series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...

It looks as though Swansea City manager Steve Cooper could be set to face a big decision over his future this summer.

Having taken Swansea to the Championship play-offs in each of the last two seasons, only to miss out on promotion to the Premier League, the 41-year-old could now get the chance to compete for a place in English football's top-flight next season.

According to recent reports from The Sun, recently relegated Fulham are interested in making Cooper their new manager, as they prepare for the departure of current boss Scott Parker, who has been linked with another Championship promotion hopeful in the form of Bournemouth.

Indeed, it is thought that Fulham are willing to pay Swansea the £3.5million compensation needed to secure the services of Cooper this summer.

So should Cooper be walking away from the Liberty Stadium in order to take over at Fulham for the 2021/22 campaign?

We put that question to some of our Football League World writers, and here, is a look at what they had to say.

George Dagless

I think he'll be really torn.

Both sides have a good chance of promotion next season and I guess he needs to work out where he is going to get the most backing before making his decision.

At Swansea, there is a good project for him to keep bringing in young players and helping them improve and there'll be a real determination about them next season to go one better and get that promotion.

I suppose it'll come down to what Fulham can offer him budget-wise and if they can offer him enough to spend on improving the squad, with the players they've already got, he could be tempted.

A really tough one for him I would say.

Jordan Rushworth

This is not as straightforward as some might feel it is. Fulham have more resources to offer than Swansea City and they have also got a lot of experience getting out of the Championship doing so in their last two campaigns at that level.

However, Swansea offer stability and they have shown that they can bring in the right players in the transfer market to replace the ones that they allow to leave. That has given Cooper the platform to enhance his reputation and that is the reason he is being linked with jobs like Fulham and Crystal Palace.

He would be under real pressure at Fulham to get promoted at the first attempt, and as we have seen with Scott Parker it can be difficult working under the current regime that run the club. So, he would have to be cautious about whether he would be able to meet the objectives of the owners with the resources he would be handed.

Having said that, the chance to work with a bigger budget and develop better players is surely one that has to be attractive. If I were Cooper I would take the plunge but equally, there would be reservations over the Fulham job that would have to all be smoothed over.

Chris Thorpe

Oh absolutely! Fulham are miles away from Swansea City financially and I think that's a massive factor.

The Swans always struggle to keep their best players as seen with the departure of Andre Ayew, whilst Fulham have the capital required to adequately replace any departures.

Overall, they also have a far superior senior squad in my opinion, with players there that Cooper can really get the best out of.

Both clubs play the same brand of passing football but that's where the similarities end really, as the Swans will struggle to get in the top six again.

If Cooper wants a promotion on his CV, he should make the move to Craven Cottage this summer.

2 Fulham youngsters we could see breakthrough in the 2021/22 season

The 2021/22 season is set to be a fascinating one for Fulham.

Having been either promoted or relegated in each of their last four seasons, the Cottagers will be aiming to continue that pattern for a fifth season with promotion back to the Premier League.

But having just dropped out of the top-flight of English football, the Cottagers may now find it rather difficult to keep hold of some of their key men during the summer transfer window.

Of course, Fulham could look to replace those individuals in the market themselves, but there is also the possibility they could turn to their youth ranks in order to source some useful assets for next season.

So with that in mind, we've taken a look here, at two Fulham youngsters who could enjoy a breakthrough campaign at Craven Cottage over the next 12 months or so.

Fabio Carvalho
One player who has already started to show signs of the potential impact he could have for Fulham next season, is 18-year-old Fabio Carvalho.

The Portuguese winger made three league appearances for the Cottagers towards the back end of last season in the Premier League, often looking like an exciting talent, and even scoring his first senior goal in a 3-1 defeat at Southampton.

With Fulham dropping down to the Championship, the opportunity could now emerge for Carvalho to get an extended run in the side, considering the promise he showed with his attacking flare at a level that could be more suited to his experience, and you do feel as though he is a player plenty of the club's fans will be excited about going into next season.

Jerome Opoku
With Joachim Andersen's loan over, and Tosin Adarabioyo seemingly attracting Premier League interest, there could be plenty of change in the centre of Fulham's defence in the next few months.

One player who may well be keen to take advantage of that, is Jerome Opoku. The 22-year-old has yet to make an appearance for Fulham since joining in 2019, instead spending time on loan in League One with Accrington Stanley and Plymouth over the past couple of years.

But having made over 50 appearances at that level, Opoku may feel that now is the time for him to step up to the Championship, and with a year remaining on his Fulham contract, this is a big year for him in terms of his Craven Cottage future, meaning those voids that need filling in the Cottagers' defence, may have come at a rather useful time for the centre back.

Arsenal, Newcastle United join race for Fulham 23-y/o – Key details and deadline

Fulham went up from the Sky Bet Championship in 2019/20 after battling through the play-offs. They expected it to be tough.

Fulham found out how tough it was with game after game seeing the Craven Cottage side put to the sword. The end result – relegation after a miserable Premier League campaign.

Restructuring during the current transfer window is a must for the Londoners but they face pressure on their own players.

One player who could move away from the Cottagers is relatively recent arrival Tosin Adarabioyo. 23-year-old Adarabioyo signed for Fulham from Manchester City on a three-year deal in October last year.

After his arrival at the Londoners, the young centre-back went on to feature 33 times in their doomed Premier League campaign.

The consistent performances that he put in must have caught the eye with Norwich City being linked. That Norwich interest has been added to with The Sun today reaffirming an earlier story of Arsenal and Newcastle United interest.

That level of interest would tend to indicate that Adarabioyo is likely on his way during this window. The Daily Mail's Sami Mokbel confirms that interested clubs will need to meet a £10million release clause.

However, sides such as the above will need to not only meet that key detail but also a tight deadline. The Mail's Mokbel confirmed that any club wanting to meet that clause will need to do so quickly. There is a tight deadline to meet.

The clause expires 30 days before the start of the Championship season which starts on August 7th. That means that the likes of Arsenal, Norwich City and Newcastle United and any others have until July 7th to make that offer.
