Arsenal finalise EFL appointment as significant off-field figure leaves Championship club

Arsenal have appointed Fulham's James Ellis to their recruitment team ahead of the new season, according to reports from Football Insider.

Ellis had been working as a senior scout at Craven Cottage since 2015 but has accepted an offer to link up with the Gunners as part of a new-look scouting network.

As part of his remit at the Emirates Stadium, Football Insider have revealed that Ellis will be responsible for scouting the UK for potential addition as the North London side look to strengthen their squad over the coming years.

Given that his role at Fulham was based in the UK and Ireland, it seems that this would be an ideal opportunity to step back into the Premier League.

This could be a significant blow to the Whites as they prepare for life back in the Championship.

With Fulham challenging for promotion next term they face a big obstacle as they adapt to life under a new head coach in Marco Silva who replaced Scott Parker in the hotseat.

With the club's senior scout now moving on as well it means that there's plenty of work to do for the club to adapt to the new challenge, both on and off the pitch.

The verdict

This is a great move for James Ellis.

The senior scout has spent six years with Fulham and played a key role in the club's recruitment efforts during that time.

With Arsenal setting up a new scouting structure under technical director Edu, it means that Ellis has a big opportunity to establish himself with one of the Premier League's biggest clubs.

For Fulham this will be a blow and means that they'll likely have to find someone to slot into the vacant position.

Ken Craggs passes away

Sad news reaching us via the Argus in Brighton that Ken Craggs has passed away.

Craggs was youth team coach and manager at Craven Cottage during the 1970s and brought a number of leading talents into the Fulham first team including Rob Wilson, Tony Gale, Dean Coney, Paul Parker, Jeff Hopkins, Jim Stannard, Peter Scott and John Marshall – to name only a few.

He had a brief spell in charge of Charlton Athletic in 1982, famously signing Allan Simonsen, who scored ten goals in sixteen games, and was sacked merely hours after being assured that his job was safe. He was probably most famous for being Allan Mullery's assistant at Brighton and Hove Albion, helping the Seagulls climb from the Third Division to the top flight in the space of three seasons.

Craggs returned to Brighton as a scout and also scouted for Manchester City and Hull City.

Fulham, Cardiff City target's asking price has doubled – Premier League side demanding £5m

Spurs are now demanding £5m for Cameron Carter-Vickers, who is wanted by Fulham and Cardiff City.

Cameron Carter-Vickers has been heavily linked with a permanent move to the Championship this summer.

Most recently, claims emerged stating that recently relegated Fulham and Mick McCarthy's Cardiff City were lining up moves for the United States international. AFC Bournemouth, who had Carter-Vickers on loan last season, have also been linked with a reunion deal.

However, a report from Football Insider has now revealed Spurs' asking price for the defender.

The report states that the Premier League side will be demanding £5m for Carter-Vickers this summer.

Spurs' asking price has doubled, with Football Insider stating that the club valued him at only £2.5m during the January transfer window.

Newcastle United and Celtic are also said to be in the chase for the centre-back. The Magpies were recently said to be leading the chase for Carter-Vickers' signature, so it will be interesting to see if any of the other clubs said keen look to rival Steve Bruce's side for the Spurs man's signature this summer.

The 23-year-old defender looks set to depart the North London club on a permanent basis this summer. Carter-Vickers has spent much of his time with Spurs out on loan, enduring six separate stints in the Championship.

Since breaking through Spurs' academy, the Southend-born ace has spent time on the books with Sheffield United, Swansea City, Ipswich Town, Stoke City, Luton Town and AFC Bournemouth

Rams Continue 2021/22 Preparations With Fulham Workout

Wayne Rooney's side played a 90-minute behind-closed-doors training game against fellow Championship side Fulham at Moor Farm Training Ground.

The match was used as an opportunity to increase the Rams' workload to conclude their first full week of pre-season training, having returned to wor on Thursday 1st July.

A mixture of Derby's first team and Under-23s players featured against the Cottagers, who are now under the management of former Everton, Watford and Hull City boss Marco Silva after their relegation from the Premier League in May.

Derby's squad will spend next week away from Moor Farm at a training camp in the south of England as their workload continues to intensify.

They will return home at the end of next week ahead of their pre-season clash against Premier League side Manchester United at Pride Park Stadium on Sunday 18th July (1pm kick-off).

Silva watches Fulham in Derby warm up

Marco Silva watched his Fulham side in action for the first time as the Whites stepped up their pre-season preparations with a behind-closed doors training game at Derby County's Moor Farm training ground.

Neither club has released a score from this fixture, although a photo on the Fulham website does show Ivan Cavaleiro scoring a header.

Fulham U18s win at Bournemouth

Fulham's under 18s made a winning start to their pre-season programme as they came from behind to beat AFC Bournemouth 2-1.

Steve Wigley's side shrugged off the setback of going behind with an equaliser coming courtesy of a far post header from a trialist. Olly Sanderson secured victory with a nerveless finish after being sent through on goal by Michael Olakigbe.

FULHAM U18s: McNally; Tanton, Robinson, Araujo, Parkes; Works (Olakigbe), Okkas (Murphy), Lanquedoc (Caton), Gofford (Gordon); Trialist (Sanderson), Wildbore (Lupalo Bi).

Fulham: Cottagers could miss out on Will Hughes

Fulham could be dealt a frustrating blow in their rumoured pursuit of Watford midfielder Will Hughes, according to a recent report from The Sun.

What's the story?

Fulham had previously been credited with interest in signing the £30k-a-week earning Hughes not so long ago, but it seems as though an agreement for the Watford man will be tough to reach this summer.

The Sun have reported that Watford are believed to be keen on a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden, and with Steve Bruce's side rumoured to be keen on a deal to sign Hughes, a potential swap could be on the cards in the near future.

That's likely to see Fulham miss out on the potential signing of the 26-year-old, who played his part in Watford's promotion-winning campaign last term, under the management of Xisco Munoz.

It's a frustrating update for the Cottagers

Fulham will be looking to win promotion back into the Premier League at the first time of asking this season, after being relegated from the top-flight last term.

The Cottagers finished 18th in the Premier League standings in last year's campaign, and will know that it's going to be a hugely competitive Championship season coming up.

Hughes has shown that he can perform to a high standard in the second tier as well, with the midfielder having made 31 appearances in total for Xisco Munoz's side last term, as they clinched promotion into the Premier League after a brief spell in the Championship.

Hughes had previously been on the books with Derby County, and made 189 appearances for the Rams, before making the move to Vicarage Road back in 2017.

He has gone from strength to strength with the Hornets, and will be hoping he can be playing his football at the highest possible level moving forwards.

A move to Newcastle United over Fulham is likely to be the more tempting proposition for Hughes, especially if the deal works from a Magpies perspective with Hayden potentially heading the other way.

Former Watford defender Adrian Mariappa once labelled Hughes as an 'outstanding player', which is a claim that plenty of the Vicarage Road faithful are likely to agree with.

"He's an outstanding player. To see the quality he's got, he has so much flair and a terrific player."

Hughes averaged just shy of two tackles per game in the 2020/21 season, and with an average pass success rate of 84.1% in all competitions last term, he's shown that he can make a positive impact both on and off the ball.

Fulham's Harrison Reed has previously been linked with a move away from Craven Cottage, with Leeds United one of the teams reportedly eyeing a move for him, but with a formal bid not materialising at this moment in time, Fulham might not even have to continue their pursuit of Hughes this summer. However, that decision could be put out of their hands if Newcastle are to press ahead with their interest in signing the 26-year-old.

It's a frustrating update for the Craven Cottage faithful, as Hughes could have been somewhat of a coup for Marco Silva's side this season, with the midfielder showing that he's more than capable of playing at a higher level than the second tier of English football.

It's exactly why fans will be absolutely gutted with this latest update.

So Silva saw fellow countryman Cav. score at Derby, that will give him one false impression to start with.

This news about Ellis who was apparently "a senior scout" leaving FFC sounds like a negative but misleading story.

I've never heard of him, was he "a" senior scout or "the" senior scout?
Thought that was the Talbot father and son act?

As for him working in the UK & ireland and his loss being a "significant blow".
Well, I don't remember the club unearthing any UK or Irish talent that's been a worthwhile benefit to the 1st team in the last 5 years?

Weren't Fulham advertising for a Director of scouting? And did they appoint one?
