Report: Benitez now ready to sell two of Marco Silva's signings at Everton

Everton could yet sell both Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes as Rafael Benitez considers making alterations to his squad, the Telegraph say.

Double exit?

Mina and Gomes were both fairly big money additions when Marco Silva was in charge, and the pair were offered sizeable contracts by Everton.

But with Benitez looking to make alterations to their squad, Everton are now looking to cut their wage bill.

And the duo could now be offloaded this summer, after rather disappointing campaigns.

Gomes and Mina both received a sizeable amount of game time with the Toffees last term.

Under-performing?

However, Gomes' performances came under heavy criticism, while Mina never quite managed to nail down his place in defence.

If Everton were to sell the pair they could surely still fetch sizeable fees for them both.

The pair are still young enough to have plenty of years ahead of them, and they have shown quality throughout their time at Goodison Park.

Benitez would also surely have to replace them both if they did leave.

Gomes and Mina's departures would leave sizeable holes in Everton's squad, and the club would likely have to make incoming additions to ensure that they don't leave themselves short.

2 free-agents who should be on Fulham's transfer radar and why

Fulham will be looking to add to their side considerably now Marco Silva has been appointed as they eye an immediate promotion back into the Premier League in the 21/22 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

The Cottagers have seen plenty of change happen since their relegation from the top flight was confirmed in May with Scott Parker pressing on with his exit to join fellow Championship side AFC Bournemouth.

Indeed, it's Silva who is now tasked with restoring the Lilywhites to the top table and he'll be looking at his squad and where he needs to try and add players before the end of the transfer window.

That in mind, we're looking at two current free agents who may well be worth the Portuguese's consideration at the very least...

Famara Diedhiou
Fulham need another striker this summer, even if Aleksandar Mitrovic does end up remaining with the club.

They are short in terms of out and out centre-forwards heading into the new season and Diedhiou would be a good option to consider, given the experience he has in the Championship with the likes of Bristol City and the physical attributes he can bring as a lone striker, similar to Mitrovic.

He's currently available on a free but is being linked to other Championship sides so if the club wants to move for him they need to think about doing so fairly quickly.

Robbie Brady
There are considerable rumours doing the rounds that Antonee Robinson could leave the club this summer with the likes of Manchester City and Wolves among those linked with an interest in him.

That said, Fulham may want to look at bringing in a new left-back to act as an option to battle with the likes of Joe Bryan and Brady could fit that description.

He's left Burnley and has lots of experience at the top level so should be a decent option for the Cottagers to consider.

Why 26-year-old turned down Fulham in favour of Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest fought off competition from Championship rivals Fulham and Premier League newcomers Brentford to lure Ethan Horvath to the City Ground, as reported by The Athletic.

Having played just four league games in the past two seasons for Club Brugge, who can blame the Colorado-born shot-stopper for choosing a club where regular first-team football would be more than just a pipe dream?

Horvath arrived in England on a free transfer this week, the seven-cap USA international putting pen to paper on a three-year contract with Nottingham Forest.

And it's understood he'll be given the chance to compete with Brice Samba for the number one shirt under Chris Hughton.

Samba's position is anything but secure on the back of an error-strewn 2020/21 campaign.

Was Ethan Horvath right to choose Nottingham Forest over Fulham?

The Athletic reports it's the promise of first-team football that encouraged Horvath to choose Forest over the likes of Fulham and Brentford.

At Brentford, David Raya is expected to remain the club's undisputed number one, the Spaniard staying put after Arsenal turned their attention to the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Unai Simon and Andre Onana.

Fulham, meanwhile, already have a proven Championship goalkeeper in the lanky shape of Marek Rodak, although a Cottagers side now coached by Marco Silva is expected to bring in a rival shot-stopper before the end of August.

Forest can now tick a 'new goalkeeper' off their summer hit-list, although the East Midlands giants aren't done yet.

Forest are looking to add some much-needed creativity to a side that scored just 37 goals in 46 games last season.

Eredivisie dynamo Zian Flemming is one target on the back of an outstanding campaign with Fortuna Sittard, while Watford are willing to loan Philip Zinckernagel to the City Ground.

Sources: Barnsley, Sunderland and Ipswich Town among clubs eyeing transfer move for Fulham player

A host of EFL sides are interested in signing Fulham defender Luca Murphy this summer as he assesses his next step for his career, Football League World can reveal exclusively.

The young Fulham man had been having talks over extending his stay at Craven Cottage but a new chapter in his early career now awaits him after they fell through, and he certainly has several routes available to him for that next step.

Football League World has been told exclusively that a plethora of EFL sides from across the three leagues are keen to bring him in, all obviously able to offer him different options in terms of playing time and progression.

Championship side Barnsley, League One outfits Ipswich Town, Sunderland, Accrington and Morecambe and League Two club Salford City are all weighing up making offers for the player, with him trying to establish in his mind which level of football might be best for him, his career path, and his development as a footballer.

Murphy doesn't turn 20-years-old until September of this year but is a talented footballer having come through initially with Hartlepool United before his move to south-west London.

He's set to be on his travels again in the near future now, though, and it just remains to be seen where he might end up.

A quarter of EFL fans hesitant at returning to matches after long Covid-enforced absence

Fans of clubs across all three divisions filled in our survey to let us know how the pandemic has affected their normal match-going habits

The hope among all in football is that the 2021-22 season finally seems a return of full grounds once more.

After nearly 18 months of matches played to a backdrop of empty stadiums, clubs in the EFL are reliant on the return of punters through the turnstiles.

The Covid-19 pandemic has sent shockwaves through all of society and the financial impact has been hard on everyone.

But there is a glimmer of light in sight for clubs lower down the leagues.

With the cap of outside stadium capacities being scrapped from next Monday, we wanted to gain an insight into whether the match-going habits of fans is likely to change.

We ran a survey asking fans if being away from grounds for so long had made them hesitant to return.

Almost two-thirds of EFL supporters who responded said that they would not be hesitant, and that the protocols in place would be safe.

Nevertheless, 26 per cent of those who filled in the survey said that the pandemic had made them more cautious when it comes to returning to grounds.

Perhaps reflecting the uncertainty right now, ten per cent said they were not sure about how they felt.

Another knock-on effect of the pandemic was the amount of games that were streamed on iFollow, the EFL's dedicated video platform.

Of course, during the season when games were played in empty stadiums dedicated fans had no alternative but to watch through this service.

But what about next season?

The EFL have said the service will be scaled back to protect matchday attendances. It means Saturday 3pm games won't be streamed live. Midweek matches however will be.

With grounds opening back up we asked whether people would be more inclined to pay £10 and watch a long away trip from home or whether they would relish the chance to travel to grounds again.

The results were tight, although 41 per cent did say they would be more likely to watch from home in future although of course this would depend on the amount of travel involved.

Two-thirds of respondents also told us that they will be purchasing or already have purchased a season ticket for their club.

Of those that said they wouldn't be doing so, the costs involved was the over-riding factor.

Just a handful cited uncertainty over Covid.

Free agent defender 'wanted' by Barnsley, Sunderland, Salford City and more

Barnsley, Sunderland and Salford City are said to be among the sides eyeing free agent defender Luca Murphy.

Recently relegated Fulham opted against renewing Luca Murphy's contract at the end of last season.

The 19-year-old defender had spent the last two years at Craven Cottage, linking up with the club's youth academy after time on the books with Hartlepool United.

Now, after Fulham confirmed their decision to release him earlier this summer, it has been claimed that Murphy is attracting interest from a host of EFL sides.

As per a report from Football League World, Barnsley, Sunderland and Salford City are all showing an interest in the defensive prodigy.

League One trio Ipswich Town, Accrington Stanley and Morecambe are also said to be eyeing a deal. With a host of sides keen and plenty of options available to Murphy, it will be interesting to see how the youngster's situation pans out this summer.

Able to feature at centre-back and right-back, Murphy featured heavily for Fulham's youth sides.

In his time with the club, he played 21 times for the Cottagers' U18s and 19 times for the U23s.

Thoughts?

Murphy has a lack of experience at a senior level but looks to be a promising talent for the future.

Fulham reportedly made efforts to keep him on board, suggesting he was highly rated by their coaching staff. As a free agent, a deal would be low risk for any of the clubs keen, so it will be interesting to see how the situation pans out.

Fulham linked with Manchester City youngster

Fulham are one of ten Championship clubs keen to take Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle on loan this season, according to reports this afternoon.

The Whites join the likes of Sheffield United, West Brom, Bournemouth, Swansea City, Middlesbrough, QPR, Coventry City, Cardiff and Blackburn Rovers in a long line of suitors for the creative midfielder, who starred as City's under 23s claimed the Premier League 2 title last season. The teenager has made seven senior appearances for Pep Guardiola's side after being handed his debut in a League Cup win over Southampton in 2019.

Doyle made his Premier League bow in July 2020 when he replaced Riyad Mahrez in a 5-0 victory over Newcastle. The 19 year-old is highly rated by the City coaching staff and extended his contract until the summer of 2025 last year. The club have yet to decide whether to loan Doyle out to continue his development – and a call may not be made until early August.

Fulham are known to be keen to strengthen their midfield options following their relegation from the Premier League and the end of Mario Lemina's loan from Southampton.

Seri seeks Galatasaray return

Reports from Turkey suggest that Fulham midfielder Jean Michael Seri is keen to return to Galatasaray.

The Ivory Coast international has endured a disastrous three seasons at Fulham since his big-money move from Nice in 2018. The Whites were relegated in his first season at Craven Cottage and he spent the following year on loan with Galatasaray, where he played 37 games and scored twice. Seri made just two appearances under Scott Parker the following year – including an underwhelming display in a League Cup hammering at Brentford – before joining Bordeaux on loan last January, where he made thirteen appearances.

Seri has reportedly conveyed to Galatasaray that he is eager to play under Fatih Terim once again and hopes to reprise his loan move to Istanbul. The 29 year-old has a year left on his Fulham contract and it seems unlikely that he will feature in Marco Silva's Championship plans for the forthcoming season.
