Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo agrees personal terms with Genk

Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo has agreed personal terms with Genk ahead of a potential transfer, reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims.

Ugbo has not made a competitive appearance for the Blues in his career, and he has spent time away on loan with five different clubs.

The 22-year-old had a promising stint with Cercle Brugge in the Belgian top-flight last term, registering 17 goals across all competitions.

He helped them avoid relegation but decided against the opportunity to join them permanently to pursue a bigger challenge.

Fulham have been regularly linked with Ugbo in recent months, with reports suggesting that he could be available for €3-5 million.

However, the striker appears determined to return to Belgium with Genk and has already agreed personal terms with the club.

Genk are considered front-runners to sign the England youth international, and it is reported that a deal could be finalised soon.

Sportslens view:
Ugbo has been with the Blues since the age of eight, and he appears set to leave them for good, having entered the final year of his contract.

He had his best-ever return for a single campaign last term, and it is unsurprising that he is keen on a return to Belgium where he was successful.

Genk are one of the most decorated clubs in the country, and Ugbo would get the chance to play Champions League football next season.

Elsewhere, Fulham would offer him the opportunity to settle in London with a crack at top-flight promotion on potentially higher wages.

Ugbo's desire to join Genk appears the right choice as he could make his Premier League bow in the future if he continues to impress.

A move to Fulham could be what Harry Wilson needs

Harry Wilson has always been a highly-rated player with a lot of potential but it is evident that he now needs to leave Liverpool in order to take his career to the next level.

The 24-year-old has now accepted that he has little chance of breaking into the Reds playing XI on a regular basis and is the subject of interest from Fulham, according to Goal.

Since breaking into the Reds senior team in 2015, Wilson has failed to earn a single Premier League appearance for the club. At his age, it is now evident that there is little chance of that changing.

Since turning professional, he has spent time on loan with the likes of Crewe Alexandra, Hull City, Derby County, Bournemouth and Cardiff City. He has vast experience playing in the Championship and was also a first-team regular for Bournemouth in the Premier League in the 2019/20 season, scoring seven top-flight goals for the Cherries that season.

Since earning his debut for Wales in 2013, Wilson has also gone on to so far earn 29 international caps so he will be the subject of interest from several teams.

There is no doubt that Fulham could be a good next destination for him if no good offers arrive from Premier League teams.

The Cottagers will be aiming to secure promotion to the Premier League next season following their relegation last term. It is likely that Wilson will form a focal part of their team next season should he move to Craven Cottage.

Fulham set for transfer blow as Chelsea man agrees terms with another club

Fulham are set to miss out on the signing of Chelsea forward Ike Ugbo this summer with the 22-year-old closing in on a move to Belgian side Genk, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It had been reported earlier on in the summer transfer window that Fulham were interested in making a move for Ugbo with the forward having enjoyed an impressive loan spell in Belgium last term with Cercle Brugge.

In total, the 22-year-old managed to register 16 goals in his 32 league appearances to highlight his potential.

A report from Goal had outlined that Fulham were a potential destination for the attacker with Chelsea keen to lower the size of their squad and with the 22-year-old only having one more year left on his deal. Although it was also believed that there was interest from AS Monaco, Sampdoria and Genk.

Now according to the latest update from Romano on Twitter, Fulham are set to miss out on the 22-year-old's signature with Genk having agreed personal terms over a move for him. That suggests that Marco Silva's side are going to have move on to other targets.

The verdict

This is a blow for Fulham with Ugbo a player that appeared to be someone that they could bring in and develop over the coming seasons.

However, it is not something that they won't be able to recover from this summer and there should still be plenty of options out there for them to add to their attacking options.

It would likely have taken Ugbo a while to settle into life in the Championship and it could be argued that the English second tier is more competitive than the Belgian top-flight so he might have struggled more in front of goal at Craven Cottage.

However, the 22-year-old is a player with potential and he has shown maturity over the last year so he could have been a good addition.

Silva's side need to add to their forward options you feel before the window closes and they will need to swiftly move on from this frustration. There is still plenty of time for them to find an alternative and it will be expected that they do invest in the attacking third if they are to challenge seriously for another promotion.

Fulham Keen to Sign Liverpool's Harry Wilson

Fulham are the club most interested in signing Liverpool winger Harry Wilson this summer, according to Neil Jones of Goal.

Fulham Eager to Sign Harry Wilson
Harry Wilson and His Loan Spells Have Impressed Fulham

The player has floated around from club to club throughout his career so far, spending various loan stints at a number of Championship clubs. Most recently, he impressed for Cardiff City in the second tier.

However, rather than ship the Welsh international out on another loan again this transfer window, it appears now could be the time to move him on permanently.

The club most likely to test the Reds' resolve with a permanent bid is believed to be Fulham.

They know that Wilson is more than capable of producing the goods on a regular basis in the Championship and with the side relegated to the second tier – and with them desperate for an instant return back to the Premier League – they will know that adding the forward to their ranks could boost their chances of an instant promotion next season.

Hefty Price-Tag for Forward
However, he won't come cheap.

Liverpool still want around £15 million for the player and it's a fairly significant fee for a side now plying their trade outside of the top flight. If they want to try and gather the right kind of player though, then it may be a fee they are resigned to paying.

There has been interest from elsewhere too, with even clubs outside of England eager to bring the player in. Benfica is the most notable, with the Portuguese side happy to take Wilson this summer.

However, no official agreement has been reached yet and the player remains available to anyone that wants him.

No Official Harry Wilson Bid From Fulham as of Yet
Fulham have yet to lodge an official bid but the interest is there and if they can stump up the funds, then it could be a signing worth going for.

Wilson certainly has the experience and know-how of the league that they would desire. The 24-year old managed 18 goal contributions in total for Cardiff in the 2020/21 campaign. That's in 37 games and gives him a tremendous average of 0.58 goals or assists every 90 minutes.

Tremendous Record at Derby
Even before he impressed in his native country last season, Wilson was known as a player who can play at the very top end of the second tier. During his loan at Derby County, he managed a similar record of 18 goal contributions in 40 games, with 15 of those being goals.

It prompted Bournemouth to try him out in the Premier League during their relegation season of  2019/20 and, although his contributions decreased (Wilson managed seven goals and no assists), he only played 18 lots of 90 minutes compared to 35.2 for Derby and 31.2 for Cardiff.

He's certainly proven then that he would be worth the price tag attached to him and that he would be a player able to produce the goods in the second tier for any side that wants him. If Fulham were to add him to their side, it would go a long way to helping them compete at the right end of the table – and therefore it might be worth finding the funds and bringing Wilson to the club.

EFL confirms temporary rule brought in for Covid has been scrapped for 2021-22 season

Since last November, clubs in the Championship, Leagues One and Two have been able to use as many as five substitutions in a game

The English Football League ( EFL ) have confirmed that the five substitutions rule has been scrapped for the forthcoming 2021-22 campaign.

The rule, allowing clubs to make five changes per game as opposed to the usual three, was brought in upon football's restart in June 2020 following the Covid-enforced break.

It was thought that it was beneficial due to the sheer number of games being condensed into a short period, therefore allowing more wiggle room.

It allowed managers to make as many as five changes in three intervals during the match, although it has to be said that it was a rarity that all five alterations were used within a game.

Now, with clubs enjoying a longer rest period between seasons, the EFL have confirmed the ending of the temporary rule change.

From next season, in the Championship, League One and League Two, teams will be able to name seven substitutes but only use a maximum of three.

There will also be concussion changes granted, if required in games.

The rules also apply to the Carabao Cup and Papa John's Trophy. In the event of extra-time in cup competitions or play-offs, an extra sub will be permitted for both sides.

The decision is being made despite the International Football Association Board (IFAB) opting to extend the five subs rule until the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

The option to use five subs from a bench of nine players was dropped by the Premier League for the 2020-21 season whilst the EFL went back to three at the start of the campaign only to re-introduce five subs in November.

West Brom pull out race to sign Fulham-linked winger

West Brom have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Liverpool winger Harry Wilson, according to Goal.

West Brom were believed to be interested to sign the wantaway Welshman and were competing with Fulham for his signature. It is believed Wilson wants to leave Anfield in a bid to get more first-team opportunities. However, he may have to drop down a division to achieve this.

Along with West Brom, fellow Championship Fulham are also keen on Wilson. The Cottagers are reportedly leading the chase as things stand. Although there is also interest from Premier League new boys Brentford, as well as Portuguese giants Benfica.

However, it would seem the Baggies have now withdrew their interest over concerns over Liverpool's asking price. Jurgen Klopp's side value the player at £15 million and West Brom would not be able to afford a figure of this magnitude.

Fulham are prepared to fork out more than their Championship and Premier League counterparts and so look the most likely destination this summer.

Both Fulham and West Brom are hoping to return to the top flight following their relegations last time out. The duo are hoping to secure a number of signings to give themselves the best chance of achieving promotion and bounce back at the first time of asking.

Last season, Wilson enjoyed a successful spell at Cardiff City in the second tier. In 37 appearances for the Bluebirds in the league, he scored a total of seven goals and registered a further 12 assists during that time.

Marco Silva's stance on future of 2018 Fulham signing revealed

Fulham boss, Marco Silva, is said to be an admirer of Jean Michael Seri, offering hope that there might well be a future for the midfielder at Craven Cottage.

Seri arrived in West London from Nice in the summer of 2018, with Fulham breaking the club transfer record fee to land the midfielder's service in a £25m deal.

However, the 2018/19 campaign ended in disappointment for Fulham, who were relegated from the Premier League and skipped through managers Slavisa Jokanovic, Claudio Ranieri and Scott Parker. Seri featured 32 times, scoring once and assisting twice, but a return to the Championship led to his departure.

Across spells with Galatasaray and Bordeaux, Seri made 45 appearances between 2019 and 2021, featuring only twice for Fulham in the League Cup between those loans.

Seri is, though, back with Fulham as they prepare for the 2021/22 Sky Bet Championship season. Galatasaray have been linked with another move to sign the 30-year-old, although Parker's departure and Silva's subsequent arrival means he now has a fan in the dugout at Craven Cottage.

As per The Athletic, Silva is a big fan of the Ivory Coast international having first noticed him whilst he played for Pacos de Ferreira in Portugal. It's also claimed that nothing is decided with regard to the midfielder's future.

The Verdict

Different managers have different ideas about a squad, which appears the case with Seri.

Silva has arrived and he's inherited a player he's rated for a long time, which will naturally open the door for him to continue on with Fulham in 2021/22.

Of course, the finances have to be right. Seri is an expensive option to carry into the season given the time that he initially signed for the club. However, if Silva rates him that highly, there might be a chance Fulham work harder to retain him.

Kamara scores in Millwall draw

Aboubakar Kamara scored Fulham's equaliser as Marco Silva's side continued their pre-season preparations with a 1-1 draw against Millwall at Calmont Road this afternoon.

The Whites went behind midway through the first half when Daniel Ballard climbed highest to head home a corner from former Fulham full back Scott Malone. Aleksandar Mitrovic went closest to grabbing an equaliser for the Cottagers when he rattled the woodwork with a free-kick before half time.

Fulham equalised shortly after the interval when Kamara lashed past Millwall goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski from long range after a clever bit of skill. It is understood that Fulham's next summer test comes against Premier League side Southampton in another behind-closed-doors friendly on Saturday.

Fulham given Tosin Adarabioyo transfer boost

Fulham have been handed a boost in their bid to keep Tosin Adarabioyo at Craven Cottage this summer.

What's the talk?

That's according to a report by Football League World, who claimed that the centre-back's reported release clause, believed to be around £10m, has now expired.

The report added that Marco Silva's side failed to receive any real interest regarding the 23-year-old prior to the expiry of the clause, despite Arsenal, Newcastle United and Norwich City all reportedly keeping tabs on the former England under-19 international.

However, Football League World also claimed that a move could still materialise, with the defender's representatives believed to be exploring the option of a move away from the Championship club this summer.

Silva surely buzzing

Considering how impressive Adarabioyo was for Fulham last season, that it now seems unlikely that the centre-back will be leaving the club this summer is sure to have left Marco Silva buzzing.

Indeed, over his 33 Premier League appearances last term as he held down a regular place in the side, the £10.8m-rated man helped his side to keep nine clean sheets, averaging 1.3 interceptions, 1.1 tackles and 5.8 clearances per game.

The man who Tony Mowbray dubbed an "exceptional talent" also impressed with his range of passing, completing an average of 49.8 passes per league match, as well as playing 3.6 accurate long balls and 2.3 chipped passes on average per game.

These returns saw the £27k-per-week defender earn an average SofaScore match rating of 6.92, ranking him as the Cottagers' ninth-best performer in the Premier League last term.

As such, with Silva undoubtedly hoping to mount a promotion push with the Cottagers next season, keeping hold of Adarabioyo this summer would certainly appear to provide the manager with a fantastic opportunity to do so, with the 23-year-old having the potential to prove a key part of any success that Fulham may go on to achieve in their upcoming campaign.
