Joining Fulham alongside Harry Wilson on Saturday, July 24th, Paulo Gazzaniga could prove to be one of the club's most worthwhile free transfer acquisitions in years. Let go by Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the month, the 29-year-old goalkeeper penned a two-year deal with the Whites and many view the Argentine to be our first-choice stopper for the 2021/22 Championship campaign.

With Slovakian international 'keeper Marek Rodak to contend with, Gazzaniga will still need to prove himself if he is to be the favoured option but what his arrival certainly promotes is healthy competition. Only one can guard the sticks on a weekly basis and if Marek and Paulo are both pushing one another to their respective limits, we're in for a jaw-dropping treat.

Spending the back end of last season on loan at La Liga outfit Elche CF, Gazzaniga found himself in an environment he's completely familiar with, having begun his career with Valencia CF. He never made a senior appearance for Los Murciélagos, however whilst competing for the club's U19 set-up, Gillingham FC poached him on a free transfer and his rise to the Premier League commenced.

A year later, Southampton purchased Gazzaniga for £2.8m and after 5 years on the south coast, with a successful loan spell at Spanish outfit Rayo Vallecano in between, the stopper joined Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee. Making 37 first-team outings in North London, understudying World Cup winner Hugo Lloris for the duration, the 6'4 protector of the uprights now finds himself in SW6 with a fresh challenge for supremacy ahead and we're all chomping at the bit to see what he can offer.

In 162 appearances all in all, Gazzaniga has kept 48 clean sheets and is a commanding presence within the 18-yard box. Not dissimilar to a certain Alphonse Areola, the one-time Argentina international will collect ominous crosses assuredly, he'll cover his angles scrupulously and he'll flaunt an extraordinary agility for a man of his stature. consistency may be a stumbling block, but it always is for a 'keeper that's out of proper, uninterrupted matchday practice.

Even having Gazzaniga at Motspur Park will raise the bar for Rodak, as well as Fabricio Agosto and truthfully, with the shot-stopping personnel we have at our disposal, we have balance, contention and competence. He's featured in the Champions League, he's had to brush off the reality of being surplus but now, with a chance to shine in a side that will hopefully push for promotion, he can aspire to be the point-saving figurehead he's ultimately destined to be on the banks of the Thames.

In Profile: Harry Wilson
A reported figure of £12m was enough to prise Harry Wilson away from Liverpool, whom he had been contracted to for 16 years, and with a bumper contract that could see the Wales representative rattle home long-range missiles and set-pieces until 2026 in SW6 and beyond, we're intrigued to see how he settles into his new permanent surroundings.

A versed Championship competitor, having spent various spells on loan at Hull City, Derby County and most recently Cardiff City, a side he comfortably tallied 12 assists for last term, Wilson is designed for the stage he's set to grace for the Whites, although the 24-year-old's certainly capable of slipping into a higher gear, as his international pedigree will testify.

Despite being shown a straight red card against Denmark in Wales' Euro 2020 round-of-16 drubbing at the hands of Denmark, Wilson exemplified his stirring qualities on a major platform and was undoubtedly one of the Dragons brighter performers, featuring in 3 out of 4 encounters.

From making his senior international bow at the tender age of 16, to his sizzling free-kick for Frank Lampard's Rams at Old Trafford and notching an impressive seven goals in 31 appearances for AFC Bournemouth in the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, Wilson has set an astounding standard for himself to emulate every time he sets foot on the turf and there's undoubtedly room for progression.

Overall in England's second division, the multi-functional winger's netted 29 goals alongside 19 assists, a return over 90 games which highlights his creative ingenuity, as well as his proficient tendencies when bearing down on the target. It's well documented, of course, that from dead ball situations, Wilson is a superior marksman and a genuine provider of opportunity, attributes we'll be eager to harness as soon as possible.

Predominantly deployed as a right winger throughout his career to date, the Wrexham-born attacker's at ease across an offensive trident, as he's also sporadically deputised on the left and in a central attacking capacity. Expect adaptability, resourcefulness and an invigorating sense of purpose from Wilson in the weeks and months to come, because now he truly knows where he stands, without the looming prospect of being shipped out temporarily to less desirable destinations, he'll aim to button-down an undisputed spot in Silva's starting XI, whilst winning over a fan base that's curious and anticipatory.

West Ham United Are In A Strong Position To Land This French Keeper: Right Man For Moyes?

RMC Sport has recently reported that West Ham United are in a strong position to land Paris Saint-Germain keeper Alphonse Areola this summer. It is believed that the Hammers are still negotiating with PSG over a potential move for the French custodian during this summer transfer window (via RMC Sport).

Areola's Impressive Loan Spell At Craven Cottage Last Season

Areola had a solid loan spell at Fulham last season as he put in a series of impressive displays despite being relegated with them from the Premier League. The Paris-born sensation took part in 37 matches for the Cottagers in the previous campaign, conceding 48 goals and securing ten clean sheets in the process across multiple competitions.

The 28-year-old performed well to average 1.1 clearances and 4.4 long balls per game in the 2020-21 Premier League season. However, he was a bit untidy when distributing possession from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 68.7% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

The three-time France international has transformed himself into a decent keeper at the back, so it makes sense for the Hammers to engineer a move to bring him to the London Stadium. He is good enough to secure a regular starting spot in David Moyes' first team.

Is Areola The Right Man For The Hammers?
Areola has good reflexes that help him pull off some clever saves at the back when the opposition are looking to threaten his goal. He is a solid handler of the ball and can make a few quick dives to come to use his side's rescue every now and then.

The French shot-stopper can even clear his lines when required which makes him a reliable presence in goal. However, Areola has to figure out a way to improve his accuracy when passing the ball to his teammates if he wants to succeed at West Ham next season. If the ex-Villarreal custodian's recent loan spell at Fulham was anything to go by, he would be the right man for the Hammers because of his towering presence and shot-stopping ability.

Areola has what it takes to compete with Łukasz Fabiański for a regular starting spot at the London Stadium in the upcoming campaign. The Frenchman could even go on to become an ideal successor to Fabianski, who has just got a year left to run in his contract with the East London club.

Fulham ready to buy Muniz

Fulham are tabled an offer worth around £6.8m for Flamengo striker Rodrigo Nunez, according to fresh reports from Brazil tonight.

The Londoners have finally switched to a permanent deal for the 20 year-old striker after facing defeat in their duel with Middlesbrough for the Brazilian forward. Boro had earlier put together their own bid for Nunez and were considered the frontrunners to snare one of the Rio giants' brightest talents after Saudi side Al-Nassr had dropped out of contention.

But with Marco Silva insistent that his new club should continue to try and bring one of his favoured targets to Craven Cottage, Fulham have satisfied Flamengo's preference for an immediate sale with a structured deal designed to allow them to meet the EFL's financial fair play regulations. Brazilian newspaper O Dia reports that they have offered an initial £5.1m up front with a further £1.7m to be paid in a second instalment.

Brazilian journalist Venê Casagrande claims that Muniz, who has scored nine goals in 26 games since breaking into the Flamengo side, would prefer a move to Fulham as he is keen to work with Silva, who made reference to his success in developing Richarlison after bringing him from Brazil to England when he held discussions with the forward's representatives last week.
