Both rumoured to only have 1 year left on there deals.
It's all good having an academy trying to bring people through but we struggle to get the young ones to sign proper deals & stay with us even with game time. This needs to be a priority this window for me

There needs to be control from the premier league to stop the big six being able to sweep up the young talent at their will.
A wage cop , graduated with age, is the obvious answer.

Meanwhile we must do all we can to make these players feel that Fulham is their natural home  and that they will not find it so comfortable elsewhere.

This is almost impossible, the big clubs especially if the players are fans of them as in Harvey Elliot, will swoop down and hoover up any talent when they are out of contract or only a year to go. Snap them up on the cheap and then discard any they don't want.
What this young talent need to understand they are being signed on a hope they will improve to the level required to play for a top team if they don't they will be sold on or thrown on the scrapheap. They may sign for Liverpool but will almost certainly be sent out on loan as did Elliot, they will not be playing for liverpool et al in the Cup Final or critical games for titles. But if they stay at their developing club get opportunities and then turn into a swan from an ugly duckling they will be able to go to any club they want. The only thing a club needs to do is to show they will give the youngsters a chance and promote them to the first team, as in Fabio although Scott Parker took a long time to do it. But play them too early it gives scouts a chance to see them and they get snapped up as did Elliot and Dembele and you get nothing for them as it looks like will happen with Biereth.

How on earth did we manage to hang on to Johnny Haynes for all of his playing career, Tommy Trinder and a lot of other staff have to be given full credit for that.

Just in case there may be a few reading this who don't realize you are joking, I would point out that an absolute control of a player's registration remained with the club until the George Eastham case of 1963. Even then players could not move on at the end of their contracts without a fee being paid until the 1995 Bosman ruling.

We paid him £100 per week. Not a lot these days but he was the first player of his day to break into that level. Was at the ground that day when Trinder announced it from the Cottage balcony.

Players were moving to overseas clubs to overcome the restrictions in this country, Charley Mitten for instance went to South America. As I remember it at the time Trinder gave the £100 per week to Haynes there was a nice offer on the table from Italy.

Quite so. And I am sure Haynes was very pleased about it (although I rather think he never got any more than that in the future). Trinder had gone on public record saying that he would pay Haynes £100 p/w if he was allowed to do so, the players at that time being restricted by the League to £20 p/w. How delighted Trinder was when Jimmy Hill got the maximum wage abolished and he was be able to do so is not recorded!
In fact at that time, and until 1964, a player unsatisfied with his pay offer had only two options: to quit the game and get another job, which some did OR go and play in a country outside FIFA's juristiction, which is what Charlie Mitten did (when he returned from Colombia he was suspended and then sacked by Manchester United, which is how we got hold of him.)
After the Eastham case, and until the Bosman Ruling, players were entitled to ask for a transfer at the end of their contract but this was still dependant on the club getting a satisfactory fee.

Lots of things for a player to mull over when signing a new contract. One would hope they would think playing each week for stealthy grew up with would have some influence on their decision making. However if they are happy to sit on the bench for a top club paying more money then they deserve what they get. This generally impedes their development which is sad.

It's the players, not just the big 6 that want this. Players and their agents want as much freedom of movement as possible.

Just looking out of interest, £100 a week in todays money, would be about £2200 per week. Nothing for a player of his quality.

However, the average weekly wage for a bloke was £14 (fourteen) a week. And the average wage for a footballer was £10-£20 a week. So, in that respect, it was an astonishing amount of money.
