Arsenal, Aston Villa join Everton + more in race to sign Andre-Franck Zambo Anguissa

Arsenal and Aston Villa have joined the likes of Everton, Roma and Valencia in the race to sign Fulham's Andre-Franck Zambo Anguissa.

Anguissa, 25, has been heavily linked with a move away from Craven Cottage this summer. The Cameroonian joined Fulham in 2018 in a record £30million deal and has since featured 58 times in the Premier League for Fulham, spending the 2019/20 campaign on loan with Villarreal.

Now though, after Fulham's relegation back to the Championship, Anguissa looks likely to be sold. Marco Silva left him out of Fulham's Championship opener v Middlesbrough at the weekend and now a report from The Athletic (via Birmingham Live) claims it was because of Anguissa's desire to leave, with Aston Villa and Arsenal now in the running to land the £25million-valued man.

Rome calling
Recent reports from Italian outlet Calcio Mercato have claimed that Anguissa 'wants' to join Jose Mourinho's Roma side this summer, mentioning a price tag of £25million.

It's not yet been confirmed by any UK publications where Anguissa wants to be playing his football this season but he's certainly not short of suitors on British shores.

From Fulham's point of view, not securing a transfer deal for Anguissa in the remaining two or so weeks of this summer transfer window could present the club with a very tricky situation – Silva's already exiled Anguissa from his side but should Anguissa remain at Craven Cottage then Silva will either have to reintroduce him into the side, or leave him in the doldrums and potentially watch his transfer value plummet.

It's a difficult one for Fulham to navigate. Anguissa has a healthy price tag but whether any clubs will match that really is anyone's guess.

Villa, Everton alerted as Real Madrid-linked star downs tools to force exit

Reports claim midfielder Andre-Frank Anguissa wants to leave Fulham, with both Everton and Aston Villa thought to be among his suitors.

The 25-year-old signed for the Cottagers in the summer of 2018. He made 16 starts among 22 Premier League outings in his first season in west London. However, Fulham suffered relegation and, keen not to play in the Championship, he was loaned to Spanish club Villarreal.

The Cameroon international saw plenty of action in LaLiga, with 28 starts and 36 top-flight outings for El Submarino Amarillo. He returned to the capital last season but was once again part of the Fulham side to go down.

Scott Parker gave him the midfield enforcer role and he was seen 36 times in the league. But, with the prospect of playing in England's second tier not appealing, the African wants out.

He did not feature in the matchday squad for Fulham's 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough on Sunday. And, The Athletic suggest a desire to leave was behind his omission.

Manager Marco Silva is unlikely to stand in his way if a club is prepared to pay his asking price. And the Daily Mail claim they will hold out for a fee in the region of £20m.

Everton have been linked in the past, with reports in May that they were keen. However, that was while Carlo Ancelotti was in charge at Goodison Park.

Rafael Benitez is now in the dugout and the Spaniard might have other ideas.

Villa have Anguissa alternative

Villa boss Dean Smith is busy reshaping his squad after the exit of Jack Grealish. He has brought in a number of attacking players such as Emiliano Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings.

And it is thought the 50-year-old wants to add steel to his midfield as well. The West Midlanders have reportedly opened discussions over the signing of Lens defensive midfielder Cheick Doucoure.

According to Goal, Villa have made contact with the player's representatives but have yet to table a bid. Lens are thought to want around £13m for Doucoure and he would therefore be a cheaper option for the Villans.

Anguissa is a similar type of player, capable of disrupting opposition attacks and launching his side forward. He was linked with Real Madrid during his loan stint in Spain but returned to Craven Cottage.

Other clubs might enter the picture but his days by the Thames are surely numbered.

Transfer Tracker: What's the latest with Fulham's pursuit of Rodrigo Muniz?

A disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Middlesbrough on Sunday saw chances at the plenty for Fulham, however poor finishing let them down.

With only one recognised striker at the club in Aleksandar Mitrović, the pressure mounts on him to find the net due to the lack of alternative attacking options for the Cottagers.

A recent rumour  Fulham have been linked with is 20-year-old Brazilian striker Rodrigo Muniz. The highly-talked about forward, who currently plays for Brazilian top division-side Flamengo, has been linked with Fulham for over two weeks, with manager Marco Silva hoping to repeat his successful business with Brazilian strikers evident in his time at Watford when he bought Richarlison.

Reports from O Dia (via Football FanCast) have suggested that Fulham previously had a bid rejected for Muniz but a new and improved second offer for the centre-forward, which is expected to be a €1million (£850k) season-long loan with a €8million (£7million) buyout clause should be enough to get him down to Craven Cottage.

Over the weekend, the young striker followed Fulham's official Instagram account and has previously liked Tweets surrounding him with a move to London.

With 10 goals in 32 appearances for his current club, Muniz has really caught the eye and been a hot pursuit for teams around the world.

With the Northern Echo reporting that Muniz turned down the chance to join Middlesbrough earlier in the summer, the striker is poised to be playing at Craven Cottage this season and hopefully guiding Fulham back to the Premier League – it's seemingly just a case of waiting for the move to come to fruition now.

Fear and loathing at Craven Cottage – Volume 2: Middlesbrough (h)

The first game of a new season is always a special one in any football fan's calendar. When you haven't seen your team play competitively for nearly eighteen months having missed both their promotion and subsequent relegation from the Premier League during that period, having to wait another 24 hours for a 1.30pm kick off on a Sunday feels like a low blow. I suppose we should be thankful that at least we didn't have to travel down from Teesside for that same kick-off time.

Arriving into Hammersmith the vast majority of fans were robbed of undoubtedly the greatest walk to any football ground in the country by London transport and its "planned engineering works" rendering the district line and subsequently Putney Bridge useless on this wet and windy Sunday morning. The lunch time kick-off gave even the keenest of drinkers minimal time to consume the adequate amount needed to face the prospect of having to play Neil Warnock on the opening day especially when discovering the majority of local pubs weren't due to open until noon.

My associate on this Sunday an Arsenal fan so disillusioned with life at the Emirates he was hoping a trip to the Cottage would jump start his love for the game prior to their season opener against Brentford next week. Sporting a Black and White Rage against the machine shirt in an effort to fit the colour scheme the irony that the vast majority of Fulham fans would be Arsenal supporters next week wasn't lost on me. The pre match meal was a time appropriate fried breakfast on the Fulham Palace Road. The torrential rain only seemed to worsen as we swapped the café for a pub and didn't relent during the albeit less scenic route to the stadium until the turnstiles were almost in sight.

The season tickets having arrived with barely a day to spare actually worked first time on the turnstiles granting access to the rear of the Hammersmith End and shelter from the now thinning rainfall. The hustle and bustle of the concourse was a sight for sore eyes and the chance for one final beer stood by the river with a close up view of the new Riverside stand was an opportunity not to be missed. My designated seats in H5 were adorned with the infamous clappers on arrival but even ten minutes prior to kick off it was clear to all that they wouldn't be required to create a raucous atmosphere. The sight of away fans crammed into the Putney end coupled with being shoulder to shoulder with complete strangers signalled that football for the fans was finally back.

Fulham's line up sprung a few surprises with the game coming too soon for Marek Rodak, so Paulo Gazzaniga continued in goal. Antonee Robinson seems to have edged out Joe Bryan at left back while clearly Tim Ream is being given a chance to bring some experience to a young backline. That youth theme continued through the midfield with the likes of Reed, Anguissa and Cairney all absent while Wilson and Kebano were selected to support Mitrovic in attack.

My reservations around Robinson and Gazzaniga certainly didn't dissipate when in the first ten minutes the former nearly managed to wrongfoot his own goalkeeper with a backpass leaving half the Hammersmith End with hearts in mouths. Middlesbrough, whose new shirt looked like a nineties throwback to the Ravanelli era offered very little going forward, although despite the statistics showing we registered a total of 16 shots, I don't remember us creating all that much either.
Wilson's goal on the half hour mark was certainly the highlight and hopefully signs of things to come from the Welshman. Mitrovic again suffered from any sort of real service and for all his shortcomings defensively Robinson offered very little going forward. The stark contrast between our left and right side in terms of quality was there for all to see.

What was refreshing was Fulham taking the occasional long goal kick. We all want beautiful passing football but over complicating things from the back seemed to become our trademark under Parker. It was nice to get to half time with a lead intact and some sense of optimism among the crowd. Led Zeppelin's – (Rock and roll) blasting out "It's been a long time" said what we were all feeling.

The second half was a familiar story in terms of us enjoying possession without ever really threatening to kill the game off or carve out any meaningful chances. With the exception of a Kebano header straight at him I don't remember Lumley ever having to make a save in anger.

The beauty of sitting in the Hammersmith End always comes in the second half with the anticipation of every attack unanimously lifting fans to their feet as we enter the final third. The counter balance to this is the complete and utter helplessness and disconnect you feel as the opposition attacks the other end. Something so far away seems so out of your control you can only hope the back four and keeper can perform their duties without having you in earshot to offer your uninformed advice and guidance. Predictably Middlesbrough scored with their only chance and as is the nature of being directly opposite the away fans we had a perfect view of their sickening ecstasy. There may still have been fifteen minutes to go but it never felt like we would be capable of creating that second goal. The introduction of Kamara left me wondering how is he still here and why we desperately need that second striker for the remainder of the season.

A second half downpour ceased just as the final whistle blew. The long forgotten halftime optimism had been dampened by our inability to hold on to a lead but at least we could now look forward to a dry walk home. Clearly Silva will be given time to build and to judge a man on a team missing so many key players would be harsh but equally it did feel that being back at the Cottage amongst friends somewhat papered over the cracks on a fairly average performance. Whether the combination of being in a stadium full of fans and seeing Luis Boa Morte in the flesh was enough to rekindle my Arsenal supporting acquaintance's love for the game remains to be seen but his pre-match bet on Wilson as first goalscorer and a 1-1 draw couldn't have hurt.

Here's looking forward to a Saturday three o'clock kick-off when the District line and pubs are open but the Heavens are not.
COYW!

Russell Martin delivers emphatic message over future of Matt Grimes as Fulham, Watford and Brighton circle

Swansea City manager Russell Martin has insisted that he wants to do all he can to ensure that the Swans keep hold of Matt Grimes during the last few weeks of the transfer window.

Grimes started Swansea's opening Championship game of the season on Saturday and delivered a strong performance despite their 2-1 defeat at Ewood Park.

That would have raised hopes that the midfielder might yet remain with the Swans this summer despite all of the interest in him.

Martin once again named the influential midfielder in his starting line-up for their trip to Reading in the League Cup on Tuesday evening.

Grimes was an instrumental figure in the heart of their midfield as they started to click under their new manager and produced a strong display to win the tie 3-0.

It had been reported by the Daily Mail that Fulham were closing in on a deal for Grimes, only for the move to be delayed due to Covid-19. Since then it has gone quiet with regards to a switch to Craven Cottage for the midfielder.

Football Insider have also reported that both Watford and Brighton are in the race for Grimes' signature and the Premier League duo might make a move for him before the window shuts.

Speaking to Wales Online following the Swans' cup win at Reading, Martin insisted that Grimes is an essential player for his style of play and that he will do all he can to keep him at the club during the remaining weeks of the window.

He said: "Anyone who sits in this chair and says, a player of that calibre, if they want him to leave then they'd be crazy.

"He really suits what we're doing, mentally with his character, with his attitude and his courage on the ball. Technically, he could play in any team.

"So nothing's changed really with Grimesy. We want to keep him. We'll have to see how that pans out."

The verdict

This is a hugely encouraging message from Martin on Grimes' potential long-term future with the Swans and it suggests that he is going to be urging the board not to cash in on him before the transfer window closes.

That means that there is still hope that he will remain a strong part of their side moving forwards despite all of the transfer interest in him.

It seems that links to an imminent move to Fulham have died down and the fact that he has started both of Swansea's first two games of the campaign shows a move away at this point is not looking like it will happen in the next few days at least.

You saw against Reading the influence that Grimes can have on this Swansea team under Martin's style of play and you would expect him to enjoy this new approach slightly more than his more reserved role under Steve Cooper. That might be enough to persuade him to remain with the Swans.

2 Fulham players who could leave Craven Cottage before the 31st August transfer deadline

Fulham's season kicked off with a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon as the spoils were shared at Craven Cottage between them and Middlesbrough in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Lilywhites will be looking to make waves this season and challenge for promotion, but they'll need to be a bit more clinical than they were on the opening weekend, with them seeing a number of chances to rather kill the game go begging.

We'll have to see if Marco Silva looks to add further to his squad in the window, then, but, in saying that, there also seems the chance some players could still exit the club.

With that said, here are two players who could feasibly leave SW6 before the deadline at the end of this month...

André-Frank Zambo Anguissa
From the moment Fulham's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed earlier this year, Anguissa has been linked away.

Indeed, there is every chance that he will be moving on from Craven Cottage before the end of the summer market, with the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa – among others – linked with an interest in signing him.

Fulham will surely be all too aware that there's a chance Anguissa leaves this summer, and we'll just have to see what happens in the coming weeks.

Jean Michael Seri
Seri seems to fit a similar description to Anguissa in that there must be a fair chance he is going to be leaving the club before the end of the current transfer window.

According to reports in Italy, Galatasaray are keen on bringing him back to their club and we'll have to see if they submit a firm bid before the window is out, whilst Napoli are also interested in him as well.

There seems to be a little less talk around Seri right now than there is Anguissa, but Gala and the men from Naples have been linked and you'd never rule out a late exit for this Fulham midfielder too.

Sources: Tottenham considering Fulham as potential destination for player despite Celtic contact

Fulham are being considered as the next destination for Tottenham defender, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Football League World understands.

Carter-Vickers has only a handful of Tottenham appearances under his belt and has been sent out on loan six times already in his career.

Last year, the 23-year-old was on loan at AFC Bournemouth, making 26 appearances in all competitions and helping the Cherries into the play-offs. Previously, he's spent time on loan with Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City, Stoke City and Luton Town between 2017 and 2020.

Football League World understand that Fulham could well be the Tottenham defender's next destination. They've been in touch with Spurs and are being considered by the North London club as a possible suitor.

There's also been contact from Celtic, who are looking to evolve their squad and challenge Rangers for the Scottish Premiership in the coming campaign.

However, at this stage, it appears that Marco Silva and Fulham are at the front of the queue for the USA international.

Fulham kickstarted their Championship return with a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon. Harry Wilson – another summer signing – opened the scoring for Silva's side, only for Marc Bola to respond for the Teessiders.

Pier Proposal: Have Your Say By Monday!

Supporters have until Monday 16th August to provide their thoughts on the Club's proposed passenger pier. Any feedback given is greatly appreciated.

Take survey

The new Riverside Stand development will create an iconic high quality design that will establish a benchmark for mixed-use stadia, used throughout the year including on non-match days. Integral to this is a design that complements the riverside and creates a contemporary waterfront destination and a natural social gathering place for the local community, rather than just a football stand.

Fulham Football Club is incredibly fortunate to occupy a site overlooking the river.  The Riverside Stand development will significantly enhance the football stadium's interaction with the river. However, we consider it would be a missed opportunity if a river transport connection, serving the site by extending existing passenger boat services on the river - a sustainable form of transport - was not considered for use by the local community, football fans and visitors to the area.

Initial work has shown that the local area has great potential demand for a river boat service for commuting, leisure and community use.  With this in mind, it is intended that a pier is created as part of the site, which would connect the Riverside Stand development to central London and would offer the local community improved transport infrastructure.  The proposal is that the riverbus service from the Riverside Stand will form part of the existing network of riverbus services operating along the Thames, providing river access for leisure and commuter use to other parts of London as an alternative to road and rail services.

Fulham Football Club's project team has been working on developing a concept design for a passenger pier and the emerging design is shown in the first two pictures below.

The design of the pier, by Danish Architecture practice 'Maritime Architecture Studio', creates a new link along the riverside walk from Bishops Park to the South and Stevenage Park to the North. The extended walkway will be open to the general public for use throughout the year, including during match days when the main riverside walkway is closed, enabling the boat services to maintain operations for the public on match days. This will form an important, unique addition to the Thames Path route for all to enjoy throughout the day, every day. A new integrated ticketing and multi-event space is also proposed. A pedestrian bridge connects the extended riverside walkway to a floating passenger pontoon which includes covered space and a seating area for waiting passengers. A secondary boat pontoon is also being considered directly at the rear of the main pontoon.

Inspired by the historic Thames riverside, natural materials are being considered for the construction of the pier that improve with age and weathering. The design is also looking to integrate trees and landscaping to deliver ecological and wider environmental benefits and create an appropriate green natural 'edge' to the Riverside Stand development and its interaction with the river.

As well offering passenger services, the opportunity for deliveries to the Riverside Stand by boat are also being considered, potentially reducing current vehicle road trips of this nature to the site.

The concept for the pier is at the early design stage and, following feedback from this initial consultation and a navigational risk assessment, the design will be developed over the coming months ahead of a full public consultation later this year. However, we wanted to take this early opportunity to invite your initial views on the proposal. We have prepared an online survey that you can access via this link – smartsurvey.co.uk/s/FCC-2021/.

We are really excited about this opportunity and the benefits it will bring to the new Riverside Stand development, local businesses, residents, supporters, and the general area. We look forward to receiving your feedback.

Comments are invited by Monday 16th August 2021.

Why Tim Ream still has so much to offer
Sean looks at the accuracy of the trope that Ream can't cut it in the top flight, and says he's still so important to the Whites.

Sunday's opener against Middlesbrough saw fans back at Craven Cottage and Tim Ream back in Championship mode. Coming off a season to forget, the American was once again at the heart of Fulham's defence, looking confident and assured as he led a starting XI with an average age of just over 25 into the new campaign as captain.

His performance was far removed from that of the man whose mis-kick gifted Arsenal their opening goal on the opening day of last season. It's prompted the question: why does Ream seem much better in the Championship than he is in the Premier League?

Let's take a closer look.

Small margins
Of Ream's 10 appearances last term, seven came in the Premier League. He started five of our first six games of the season, during which time we lost five and drew one, while conceding 14 goals.

The eventual arrivals of Tosin Adarabioyo and Joachim Andersen brought much-needed stability that no combination of Ream, Michael Hector and Denis Odoi could provide at the back, condemning all three to the sidelines for much of what remained of the season.

"It was hard. It was difficult. It was unenjoyable," Ream recently told Peter Rutzler of The Athletic. "Listen, any time you are losing and you are not moving up the table, it's unenjoyable. For me, it was doubly unenjoyable because you're not playing, you feel like you're not part of the team. You're sitting on the bench, but you're not really contributing."

As frustrating as it might have been, Ream, like the others, couldn't have been surprised to find himself sitting on the bench. Fulham were, after all, abject defensively out of the blocks, conceding one more goal than we did in the first six games of our catastrophic 2018-19 campaign – and Ream certainly wasn't free of blame. In addition to his error for the Arsenal goal, poor communication between he and Hector allowed Tyrone Mings to undo our zonal marking in the Villa game and he was one of multiple players caught ball-watching as Crystal Palace strolled through our defence not once but twice in our 1-2 defeat at the Cottage.

Shortly after that game, Ream spoke to FFCtv about the difference between the Premier League and the Championship. "You look at the quality at every single position on the pitch of every team and it's head and shoulders above the Championship," he said. "The margins are so small in the Premier League that you can't get away with switching off even for a second, where in the Championship you can take little breathers here and there."

Unfortunately, he himself was guilty of doing just that a few too many times, giving Scott Parker reason enough to leave him out of the starting XI from that point on. Ream didn't start again until our penultimate game, when relegation was already confirmed.

Measuring up
Ream's disappointing season raised serious questions about his future with the club. Fulham, however, responded by offering him a new contract, securing an old head to lead our relatively inexperienced backline through the long, hard slog of yet another Championship campaign.

While some rolled their eyes at the decision, it seemed like a smart one on Sunday as Ream thrived alongside an uncertain-looking Tosin. Defensively he was solid, leading all players with three interceptions, while also making three clearances and one successful tackle. But it was his passing that really caught the eye, as he drove the team forward in the absence of Harrison Reed, making 24 accurate passes in the Middlesbrough half (for comparison, Kenny Tete, who spent large periods of the game in an advanced position, made just 19).

While Ream may have looked better than he did this time last year, it's important to remember the point he made about the calibre of opposition. Final score aside, Middlesbrough were poor, managing just 34% possession, 392 total touches (Fulham had 613) and one shot on target. As the heatmaps reveal, they spent large periods of the game without the ball, in their own half, trying to keep Fulham at bay, hoping we would make mistakes that would allow them to counter.

It's an approach we know all too well, having spent the bulk of last season in Boro's position; pegged back by superior opponents, forced to withstand long periods of intense pressure as some of the best players in the world looked to breach our backline.

Interestingly, although Andersen and Adarabioyo had a huge impact after arriving on Deadline Day, their overall numbers weren't significantly more impressive than Ream's. Despite appearing in fewer games his per-90 minute stats, courtesy of Squawka, measure up relatively well against Andersen's, who in turn outperformed Tosin, statistically.

While the Dane outmatched his American counterpart in categories like aerial duels won (3.3 to 1.6) and aerial duel success (69.23% to 52.38%), they were tied for ground duels won (with 1.9 apiece), while Ream outperformed Andersen in tackles made (1.8 to 1.1) and blocks (0.8 to 0.5). He also had better passing numbers, leading the way in pass accuracy (90.6% to 81.36%), passes completed in the opponent's half (16.9 to 14.2), and forward passes (24.2 to 24.1). For comparison, Tosin finished behind Andersen and Ream in all categories other than clearances (which he led 5.9 to 5 to 3.3 respectively).

While it's important to remember that Ream played in fewer games, resulting in a smaller sample size, these numbers do suggest that Andersen and Ream could have made an effective pairing and it would have been extremely interesting to see if Andersen could have helped Ream elevate his game had the two played alongside one another.

One more time?
Regardless of what the data says, Ream simply doesn't always pass the eye test. He regularly gets caught ball watching (watch how he loses track of Oli McBurnie here), his desire to play it out from the back can lead to problems and his ability to track runners often leaves a lot to be desired.

But as the stats above show, he does a lot of things well, something that's amplified in the Championship, where Fulham are more likely to dominate opponents than be dominated by them. And as Peter Rutzler's recent interview with him revealed, he's become a mentor on what is currently one of the youngest teams in the league.

If he can stave off competition from the likes of Terence Kongolo, Michael Hector and Alfie Mawson, Fulham's 2017/18 Player of the Season could yet play a huge part as the Whites look to secure a third-straight promotion. Whether he'll actually play for us in the Premier League again – should we get there – is another matter entirely though.

Fabio Carvalho to Leeds United: Is it a good potential move? Would he start? What does he offer?

Fulham are battling to retain Fabio Carvalho this summer as he stalls on committing to a new contract in West London.

Leeds United are said to be interested in signing Carvalho as a result of that (The Sun on Sunday; 08/08/21, page 66), whilst West Ham United are another Premier League side taking a keen view on the situation.

Carvalho is raw still at 18-years-old, with only seven senior appearances under his belt for Fulham, including Sunday's 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough in the Championship.

However, 11 goals and four assists in 13 Premier League 2 appearances last season underline his quality, potential and why he's on the radar of Leeds and West Ham.

We take a look at the attacking midfielder's potential arrival at Elland Road:

Is it a good potential move?
Absolutely. Carvalho is really highly-rated and his contract stand-off at Fulham isn't down to the club not wanting to keep him. Their desire to tie him down underlines how good he is, if anything.

From Leeds' point of view, they'd be getting a player with plenty of promise. His form in the Premier League 2 has been outstanding over the last 12 months, with goals and assists flowing regularly at a decent level of football.

Fulham have also handed Carvalho a first taste of Premier League football, and he's even returned a goal against Southampton.

So, not only is Carvalho one for the future, he's also been primed for the here and now.

Leeds will like that. They run a tight ship under Marcelo Bielsa and lean heavily on younger players to pad out a smaller senior squad. Carvalho would be perfect.

Would he start?
Despite starting for Fulham at the weekend against Boro in the Championship and getting Premier League starts under his belt last season, it's hard to see.

Bielsa has Mateusz Klich and Stuart Dallas competing for the No.8 berth in Leeds' midfield, then Rodrigo and Tyler Roberts tussling for the more attack-minded option alongside them.

That's four quality options before you even think about Jamie Shackleton, Adam Forshaw or a more advanced Kalvin Phillips.

Carvalho, you'd imagine, would fall somewhere between the senior squad and the U23s. Continuing to develop in the Premier League 2, but also stepping up to provide depth to the likes of Rodrigo and Roberts.

What does he offer?
n terms of his playing strengths, the teenager is a keen dribbler, makes good use of possession and likes to test goalkeepers. His eye for goal is evident in his Premier League 2 numbers, whilst his strike against Southampton (his only senior goal to date) was a laser off the underside of the crossbar.

What Carvalho also offers Leeds is potential and a future solution in the attacking midfield positions.

Rodrigo is 30 now and won't be around forever, whilst Roberts is embarking on an important year individually, where he really needs to step up in the Premier League after landing a new contract.

Carvalho would be a candidate to succeed them in the long-term, as well as support them in the short-term. Leeds consider Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt as players that could do the same, but both are more traditional forward players, rather than natural playmakers.

In an impressive pool of talent, Leeds have space for a player with Carvalho's quality. They should be doing all they can to prey on the situation Fulham find themselves in.

Jean Michael Seri edging closer to Fulham exit

Fulham midfielder Jean Michael Seri could be edging closer to a departure from Craven Cottage this summer.

What's the talk?

According to reports in France (via Football League World), Napoli and Galatasaray are keeping a very close eye on the situation of the 30-year-old ahead of a potential move in the summer transfer window.

The report continues by stating that the Serie A side are contemplating an offer for the Ivory Coast international as a result of an injury crisis, however, it is not mentioned whether they would want to sign the midfielder on a permanent or temporary basis.

It is also stated that, with Seri now entering the final year of his contract in west London, should the Cottagers wish to receive any kind of transfer fee for their £27m 2018 signing, they will have to do so this summer.

Stealing a living
It would be a difficult argument to make that Seri has been a successful signing for the Cottagers, as the midfielder has made just 36 appearances in all competitions over his three years at the club, having been twice sent out on loan – firstly to Galatasaray and most recently to Girondins Bordeaux.

Indeed, in the one full season the 30-year-old has spent at Craven Cottage following his arrival, the £3.6m-rated man failed to live up to expectations, averaging a disappointing WhoScored match rating of 6.55 over his 32 Premier League appearances back in the club's 2018/19 campaign.

And, considering the man Xavi once claimed possesses "Barca DNA" is reported to earn a princely £65k-per-week at Fulham – the second-highest salary in the current Cottagers squad.

It would indeed appear highly advisable for Marco Silva to do all he can to move the midfielder on this summer, particularly as it seems the Portuguese boss has no intention of utilising Seri this season, with the former OGC Nice man being an unused substitute in the club's season-opening fixture against Middlesbrough last weekend.

The diminutive 5 foot 6 ace would be merely stealing a wage by not playing and festering away in the reserves all season. It's time to be ruthless and shift him out before this month's transfer deadline.

Timmy Abraham: Chelsea striker Tammy's younger brother making headlines

Timmy Abraham celebrates after scoring at Ipswich, his first goal for Newport

There's a world of footballing difference between the Abraham brothers.

But while Chelsea's Tammy is being linked with a potential £34m move to Roma, younger sibling Timmy has begun to make headlines at League Two Newport County.

The 20-year-old flicked in a stylish winner at Ipswich in the EFL Cup to enhance their giant-killing credentials.

Inevitably, the goal drew comparisons with Timmy "hopeful" his brother would have been proud of such an effort.

"It was an instinctive finish," said Timmy, who acknowledges there are similarities as well as differences in the way each brother plays.

"I feel like there's some things I've taken from his game and some things I feel like I have, so I try to obviously blend them and try and find my own way.

"He speaks to me pretty much every day and where I should be in the box and just things like that and we always give each other feedback on how we think we've performed in a game."

He added: "I've been watching him since I was young and obviously I was younger so I've always looked at him as someone I look up to and want to emulate in a way and also make my own path as well."

That path has brought the younger Abraham sibling on loan from Fulham to Rodney Parade where he believes he can thrive under boss Michael Flynn.

"He's told me what he wants from me and what he wants from the team so we obviously all have to work hard to get that and hopefully I do my part as best I can," said Abraham.

"He believes in me and he believes in the team so that gives you extra confidence and I feel like this is the time to really kick on."

Reed resumes Fulham training

Harrison Reed took part in Fulham's training session at Motspur Park this morning – boosting hopes that he could be available for the trip to Huddersfield this weekend.

The ball-winning midfielder missed Marco Silva's first competitive game in charge at Craven Cottage as the Whites drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough in their Championship opener on Sunday. The 26 year-old, who has made 51 appearances for the Whites, has had to manage a troublesome ankle problem throughout pre-season but could return to the Fulham midfield at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday.

Fulham's old problems remain as Championship opener dampens pre-season positivity

Everything felt a little too familiar for Fulham fans in their Championship opener against Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon.

Bouncing between the top two leagues has become the norm in recent years, and although a promising pre-season brought rejuvenated hopes of stability, old problems remain as the Cottagers were forced to settle for a point in their season opener.

A tenacious Neil Warnock team was the perfect barometer for the Championship season that lies ahead. Destined to be a niggly affair from the first whistle, the game began well for Marco Silva's men as they dominated possession in the first-half and took a deserved lead via new signing Harry Wilson's fine strike from just outside the box.

Fulham passed the ball with class and looked a cut above for most of the game; they just couldn't find the quality needed for a second goal.

Meanwhile, Warnock's trademark tactics of staying in the game and disrupting Fulham's rhythm worked well and eventually paid off when left-back Marc Bola scored with Boro's only shot on target.

Fulham certainly stood up to the physicality of Warnock's side with a total of 28 fouls shared evenly between the two sides and seven yellow cards brandished – including one each to assistant coaches Luis Boa Morte and Kevin Blackwell after some touchline handbags.

If a reality check as to what new boss Silva will face over the course of the next nine months, he certainly got one as he embarks on what will likely be one of his most gruelling seasons as a manager.

Fulham's meek departure from the Premier League left fans feeling dejected as they reflected on another season of shortcomings at the top level.

The exodus of Alphonse Areola, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mario Lemina, and the impressive Joachim Andersen, now at Crystal Palace, was tough to take. As was, of course, the departure of Scott Parker.

Seeing their ex-captain leave for promotion rivals AFC Bournemouth was a significant blow for most of the Fulham fan base. Though lacking in experience, his palpable ambition and eloquent analysis drew admiration from supporters and pundits alike.

Nevertheless, the manner of Fulham's relegation and a breakdown in communication with the club's top striker did test the patience of his supporters and superiors.

The Parker vs Aleksandar Mitrovic stand-off ended with the former departing, but the Serbian striker will need to up his game if he is to win back the favour of the Fulham faithful.

Despite these negatives, pre-season threw up a few welcome surprises. Exciting signings and an aspiring new manager allowed portions of the fanbase to purge last season from their memories and start feeling optimistic again.

Even after the frustration of Sunday's result, Fulham's first showing of the season did have elements to be admired.

Harry Wilson's performance, in particular, showed that the club has addressed an area that needed improving.

Wilson's overall cost is expected to be £12m, which is more than some Championship clubs will spend throughout the entire season. A not-so-subtle hint at what Tony Khan is expecting come the end of the season.

Silva's decision to start another new signing Paulo Gazzaniga over Marek Rodak seemed a tad harsh on the Slovakian, but having two established keepers to choose from is always a healthy problem for a manager.

The overall squad looks in better shape than the one Parker had at the start of 2018/19 and getting Mitrovic scoring again will be high on Silva's list of priorities.

Fulham also look poised to sign Rodrigo Muniz, a 20-year-old Brazilian striker from Flamengo who has reportedly rejected a move to Middlesbrough and, if signed, will be another step towards scoring more than last year's tally of five goals at home all season.

In his first press conference for the club, Marco Silva used the word "project" at least eight times, clearly realising what success at Fulham means for him and, like Parker, comes across as someone with a strong vision.

There are rumours that someone big will be leaving – perhaps Seri or Anguissa – but nothing has materialised at the time of writing. Big seasons are also expected from the likes of Antonee Robinson, Harrison Reed, Kenny Tete and Tosin Adarabioyo.

The quality within the squad, combined with an almost finished Riverside Stand and a manager striving to repair his reputation puts Fulham in good stead for promotion come next May.

The fanbase know of Slavisa Jokanovic's Championship expertise so Sheffield United could be one to watch, as will Scott Parker's Bournemouth, but with the quality they possess, Fulham should also be in the running for automatic promotion.

One winner and one loser at Fulham as club consider move for Tottenham man

Fulham are hoping to enjoy a really busy end to the summer transfer market.

Football League World exclusively revealed that Tottenham Hotspur were considering the West London club as a potential destination for Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The 23-year-old is an accomplished Championship-level performer having shone for Bournemouth last term where he made 26 appearances for the Cherries in a campaign that saw them fall short in their hopes of securing promotion.

Celtic are also said to be keen on the player, however it seems that Fulham are currently at the front of the queue.

Should Carter-Vickers move to Craven Cottage then it's bound to have a big impact on Marco Silva's squad. Here's one winner and one loser from a potential deal.

Winner – Marco Silva
There's no doubt that adding a quality defender to the group will be a big boost for the club's head coach.

Fulham's weakest area is in central defence and so the addition of Cameron Carter-Vickers, a player who is getting better every year, will be seen as a priority for Silva going into the final few weeks of the season.

The Whites looks like a real handful going forward but it's clear that they'll need to add more depth and quality at the back if they're avoid making life difficult for themselves over the course of the campaign.

There's also a need to bring someone like Carter-Vickers in purely to give the Portuguese boss some options.

With Tim Ream now 33 years of age and playing minimal amounts of football over the last 12 months there's no doubt that the Tottenham man can be an effective option in rotation at the back to ensure that the American veteran stays fresh over the full campaign.

Loser – Alfie Mawson
The central defender looks like his days with Fulham could be numbered, particularly if this deal gets done.

Alfie Mawson arrived at Fulham as a really highly-rated defender after establishing himself as a really exciting talent during his time with Swansea City.

Unfortunately since then things seem to have stalled somewhat.

Mawson played 27 times as the Whites secured promotion in 2019-20 but has not featured for them since January 2020 after a combination of injury problems and a loan to Bristol City got in the way of his hopes at the club.

If Cameron Carter-Vickers joins the club then it could spell the end for the 27-year-old who might fancy moving on before the end of the month in order to kickstart his career.

Games for the Weekend 14/08
Our first away game of the season takes us to the John Smith's Stadium the home of Huddersfield Town.
A draw against Middlesborough last weekend wasn't really a bad result, just not a good one.

It was good to see Harry Wilson get a goal on his debut and overall I think he had a good game, let's hope he can live up to the potential.

The ongoing draw-out transfer saga's for Grimes and Muniz are taking the "normal" period we've all come to expect from Fulham, i.e. a month of Sundays.
Perhaps we need to sell players before we can sign new ones, FFP and all that? There are strong rumours about Anguissa going, also reports that Seri and AK are on the move, I wish them all well, especially AK47, I know many don't rate him but theres something about his "bull in a china shop" play that brings a smile every time I see him.

Like us, Huddersfield had a 1-1 draw at the weekend, a very good result for them as their team was hit by four positive Covid tests.

We do have a good record against Huddersfield, 1 loss, 7 wins and 2 draws so I'm sure that we'll approach the game with plenty of confidence.

£7m ace trains alone ahead of Fulham move, Warnock 'can't believe' it

Flamengo striker Rodrigo Muniz is training alone as he prepares to complete a £7 million move to Championship side Fulham, as reported by Coluna do Fla.

Should the 20-year-old striker prove a big hit at Craven Cottage, the west London club will have Marco Silva to thank.

The Fulham manager sees shades of Richarlison in young Muniz and, in the face of serious competition from across the footballing globe, Silva went that extra mile to lure one of Brazil's most coveted talents to the English capital.

The Portuguese tactician called Muniz directly last month in an attempt to lure the striker to SW6.

And it seems that personal touch has had the desired effect, with Fulham set to fight off the likes of Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Genk, Al-Nassr and Championship rivals Middlesbrough.

Muniz has already agreed a five-year deal at Craven Cottage, with Fulham expected to spend about £7 million.

Fulham chief executive Alistair Mackintosh has held talks with his Flamengo counterparts too. Muniz is now training alone away from the rest of the squad as he prepares to board a flight to London.

Rodrigo Muniz opted for Fulham ahead of Middlesbrough (and Inter Milan)

"I can't believe he's turned us down," Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock told the Hartlepool Mail, confirming Fulham's interest in the highly rated Muniz.

"I think it was Inter Milan, Fulham or Middlesbrough.

"(Muniz) is just a different type of player. He's got energy, pace. It's still a bit of a gamble but Steve (Gibson, Boro's owner) wanted to gamble with that age group and we're disappointed as a lot of work went into it.

"It has left us a bit short. We've missed out on one or two players because we've waited so it has been a difficult period but I'm sure we'll come up with something."

Fulham and Middlesbrough met on the opening weekend of the Championship season on Sunday. Marc Bola's crisp strike earned the visitors a draw after a brilliant debut goal from Fulham's new £12 million man Harry Wilson.

Wickens joins Wealdstone on loan

Young Fulham goalkeeper George Wickens has joined National League side Wealdstone on a season long loan.

The nineteen year-old, who signed a new three-year contract at Craven Cottage last October, made nine appearances for Fulham's under-23 side last season and remains highly rated at Motspur Park. Wickens could go straight into the Wealdstone side for their home clash with Woking on Saturday afternoon.

533 days later, we will finally be reunited at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday 14 August 2021 when Huddersfield Town welcome Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship; 3pm kick-off.

Town go into Saturday's game off the back of their 1-1 draw with Derby County at Pride Park on Saturday 7 August.

Fulham also go into the game following a draw in their opening fixture, a 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough.

THE OPPOSITION

The conclusion of last season saw Fulham relegated from the Premier League with 28 points.

In June 2021, Fulham announced that then Head Coach, Scott Parker, had left the Club by mutual consent.

Two days later, former Everton Manager Marco Silva was appointed as new Head Coach on a three-year deal.

Fulham will be looking to put 2020/21 behind them and secure their place back in the Premier League at the first attempt.

ONES TO WATCH

Harry Wilson

The 24-year-old signed a five-year deal with Fulham in July 2021. Joining from Liverpool, the midfielder scored his first goal for the Club on his debut against Middlesbrough on 8 August 2021. Wilson spent last season on loan with Cardiff City, making 37 appearances. He scored seven goals, including his first professional hat-trick in Cardiff's 4-0 away win at Birmingham City.

Aleksandar Mitrović

Mitrović joined Fulham on loan from Newcastle United in February 2018. He scored his first goal for the Cottagers in their 1-1 draw with Bristol City, kickstarting a run of form that saw him score six goals in four matches. In July 2018 he signed a permanent contract with Fulham, which has since been extended to keep him at the Club until 2024. 2020/21 saw the striker contend with various injuries, but he still made 27 appearances for Fulham.

Tosin

The defender signed for Fulham from Manchester City in October 2020, ending his 18-year association with his home club. His first season with the Cottagers saw him make 33 appearances. Sky Sports described his first season as a "seamless transition" to the Premier League due to his impressive performances, including helping keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 over reigning champions Liverpool in March 2021.
