Fulham: Cottagers eye Carter-Vickers

Fulham are reportedly being considered as the next destination for Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, according to Football League World.

The lowdown
Carter-Vickers has been with Tottenham since 2009, but has found consistent minutes with their first-team hard to come by in recent years.

The defender spent last year's campaign on loan with AFC Bournemouth, and played his part in their push for promotion into the Premier League as they fell just short in the play-offs.

The likes of Celtic and Cardiff City have both been credited with interest in signing the 23-year-old this summer, although a frontrunner was yet to emerge heading into the new league campaign.

The latest

Football League World now report that Fulham could be the next club that Carter-Vickers heads to, with Spurs considering their interest ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Cottagers were forced to settle for a point in their first match of the 2021/22 season, as they drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon.

The transfer window is set to close on August 31st, and Fulham are seemingly keen to add to their defensive options before that deadline later this month.

The verdict

This would be another solid addition to a Fulham team who are well-equipped to win promotion back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

They've got a number of attacking talents in their team, with summer signing Harry Wilson already notching his first goal. But you need defensive solidarity in a team that is challenging for promotion, and Carter-Vickers could provide Marco Silva's side with that this season.

The defender had an average Whoscored rating of 6.79, which put him seventh on the list when it comes to Bournemouth's best performers during the 2020/21 season.

With just one year remaining on his current contract with Spurs, he'll be fighting for his future, and that could play into Fulham's hands, as Carter-Vickers will be wanting to perform to a high standard out on loan.

Former Luton Town boss Graeme Jones revealed that Brighton and Hove Albion boss Graham Potter labelled his character as 'incredible', with Carter-Vickers working with Potter whilst the pair were at Swansea City together back in the 2019/20 season, and that sort of character could certainly aid a promotion push at Craven Cottage.

Ream targeting first win at Huddersfield

Tim Ream is targeting a first win of the season at Huddersfield this weekend to kickstart Fulham's promotion push.

The Whites were held to a 1-1 draw in their Championship opener against Middlesbrough on Sunday and the veteran defender wants his side to send a message to the rest of the division by recording a win in west Yorkshire on Saturday. Ream, who skippered the side in the absence of Tom Cairney last weekend, told FFCTV this afternoon, that racking up points early on will be important as the campaign unfolds:

"You want to get a win early. We were looking like it was going to be that at the weekend but we're not discouraged and we want to get a win on the board as quickly as possible. We're obviously targeting that on Saturday at Huddersfield and we can kick on from there. The first win is important. Starting the Championship well is important and not dropping as many points early on is the key to staying at the top this season.

"It is a typical Championship game. You probably are going to have spells where you dominate and have some where you're going to be under it a little bit. Tomorrow will be the first day when we look at film and look at how they're going to come against us. We do a lot more on ourselves – we know our shape, we know our structure, it's just a matter of getting everything well oiled."

Ream admitted that the draw against Neil Warnock's men remains a source of frustration, but insisted that Fulham's confidence had not been dented by the result.

"It is still frustrating. Obviously, we did a lot of good things in the match. Some good attacking play, overall pretty solid. You sum up the goal as a little of lucky bounce on the wing and it just kind of squirted around. It is frustrating to give up a goal on their only real shot on target, but that's the Championship, isn't it? You just have to analyse what we've done well, analyse what we could do better and go again on Saturday.

We're not down on ourselves and doubting where we are as a team. The energy is still high in training, the intensity is still very much ramped up. Guys are looking forward to going into games and getting good results – that doesn't change because we got a draw on the weekend."

Marco Silva speaks to Brazilian media – Says he's been in contact with Fulham's potential signing

As Fulham continue to work on the signing of Flamengo striker Rodrigo Muniz, we now get to see a quite interesting piece from Brazilian outlet O Dia.

Journalist Venê Casagrande, who's been covering the whole saga, has spoken to Marco Silva about the potential transfer.

Even though the coach isn't quoted directly, it's said he's been in touch with the newspaper 'through a chat app'.

Silva reportedly claimed he's been talking to Rodrigo Muniz, as he has the player 'on his radar' and 'knows him well'. It's said the signing was a personal request from him to Fulham CEO Alistair Mackintosh.

It's once again claimed that the manager has planned the same project for the 20-year-that he had for Richarlison, who was signed by him at Watford and then followed at Everton.

Muniz is now set to start his medicals in Brazil and finish them in London. Then he'll sign a five-year deal with Fulham. O Dia claims that due to a request from the Championship side, the striker isn't even training with Flamengo any longer, as they were afraid of potential injuries.

The Whites are spending €8m on the transfer, and Flamengo will have 25% of a future move.

Kamara set for Aris medical

Fulham forward Aboubakar Kamara is expected to undergo a medical in Greece tomorrow ahead of his proposed £3m move to Aris.

The Mauritanian international has reportedly agreed a four-year contract with the Greek Super League side after Fulham and Aris finally reached agreement on a permanent deal following a series of stop-start negotiations this summer. The 26 year-old is poised to become the Thessaloniki side's club record signing.

Kamara's brief substitute appearance as Marco Silva sought a winner against Middlesbrough on Sunday looks like being the last of an incident-packed Craven Cottage career. Signed from Amiens for around £5m in 2017, the powerful forward scored seventeen goals in 92 appearances for Fulham but was involved in a series of off-field controversies, one of which saw him arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and criminal damage at the club's Motspur Park training ground.

Aston Villa could swoop in for Fulham midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa

Aston Villa are keen to sign Fulham midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa this summer according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (print edition August 11th, page 10).

Villans boss Dean Smith has been an incredibly busy man in the transfer market this summer.

Jack Grealish has left Villa to join Manchester City for a British record £100 million fee.

Aston Villa have spent not far off the amount they received for their captain on five players – Emiliano Buendia, Danny Ings, Leon Bailey, Axel Tuanzebe and Ashley Young.

It seems as though Smith's business is far from being done, however.

Aston Villa chasing Anguissa?

GDS claims that they west Midlands outfit are keen to prise the powerful 25-year-old away from Fulham this summer.

Everton and Roma allegedly want to sign him as well. The Villans are allegedly leading the race, however, due to their healthier current financial position.

What a signing Anguissa would be for Villa.

Fulham brought the Cameroon international to England from Marseille three years ago for around £30 million (Goal).

Despite the Cottagers' relegation down to the Championship last season, Anguissa really stood out for the west Londoners.

In 36 Premier League outings for Fulham, the midfielder averaged 2.2 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game. He also made 39.3 passes per match and recorded an impressive completion rate of 84.2%.

During a loan spell with Villarreal during the 2019/2020 campaign, Anguissa was in the top five for the most dribbles in La Liga (The Guardian).

The Cameroonian ace was recently described as 'superb' and 'world-class' by former Fulham boss Scott Parker.

Anguissa would be an excellent addition for Aston Villa. Whether Fulham would be prepared to let him go for less than they paid for him three years ago remains to be seen, however.

Fulham's 'next step' and the warning Huddersfield Town must heed

Josh Onomah has reflect on Fulham's draw with Middlesbrough and what they need to put right against Huddersfield Town

Josh Onomah has outlined the 'next step' Fulham must take ahead of their Championship clash with Huddersfield Town.

Recently relegated from the Premier League, the Cottagers put in an impressive display but were forced to settle for an opening-day draw against Middlesbrough.

Former Tottenham prospect Onomah teed-up summer signing Harry Wilson for a debut goal, but Marco Silva's side were made to pay for squandering opportunities when Marc Bola grabbed a late equaliser.

Huddersfield also recorded a 1-1 draw in their opening fixture of the campaign at Derby County, with positive Covid-19 tests ruling Carlos Corberan, Lee Nicholls, Harry Toffolo, Lewis O'Brien and Josh Ruffels out.

First-team coach Danny Schofield confirmed the backroom team were preparing for the Fulham visit in the expectation that Corberan would still be in isolation.

Reflecting on the draw with Middlesbrough, Onomah admits the equaliser "really hurt" and insists Silva's side must show a clinical edge at the John Smith's Stadium.

He told the club's website: "That one hurt. Conceding that late on after dominating for so many spells in the game.

"We played some electric football and created so many chances, so to concede late on really hurt.

"But hopefully down the line we'll see this as a point gained rather than two points dropped.

"We've just got to see this game as a learning curve, analyse it during this week and see how we created chances, and the next step is putting the ball in the back of the net."
