Mitro's on fire – Fulham agree new five-year contract with fans' favourite

Aleksander Mitrovic has signed a new five-year deal at Fulham. The Serbian striker has made 108 appearances and scored 43 goals since signing on a permanent deal from Newcastle United in 2018.
Mitrovic said: "It feels amazing. It's been my home now for three or four years so I'm really happy to sign my contract for the next five years.
"I want to thank Tony Khan and of course the owner and everyone at the club, for making me feel at home and showing how much they believe in me and how much they love me here, so I'm really happy."
Director of football Khan added: "I'm thrilled to announce that we've agreed a contract extension to keep Aleksandar Mitrovic at Fulham Football Club.
"Mitro has been a driving force in both of our recent promotion campaigns in 2018 and 2020, as he's scored many important goals and created numerous incredible memories for Fulham.
"He's always embraced the love of our supporters, and he's been a loyal friend to so many of us at the club, he really cares about Fulham and our people, and he still continues to produce joy for us on and off the pitch. I'm grateful to Mitro for his allegiance to our club and our supporters."

O'Neill named in Irish under 21 squad

Fulham midfielder Ollie O'Neill has been named in the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad for the first time.

The 18 year-old, who was named Fulham's scholar of the year in May, has been included in Jim Crawford's 24-man squad for two European Championship qualifiers against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Luxembourg. O'Neill has featured in both of Fulham's under 23 victories so far this season and is expected to be involved in tonight's trip to table topping Aston Villa.

O'Neill, who joined Fulham after Brentford took the decision to close their academy, captained the under 18s to Premier League South title glory last season, creating ten goals in 23 league appearances. He also featured eight times for Fulham's under 23s last term and remains highly-rated at Motspur Park.

Reed, Ream and Carvalho fit for Stoke

Harrison Reed, Tim Ream and Fabio Carvalho are all available for selection as table-topping Fulham prepare to host third-placed Stoke City in an intriguing Championship tussle at Craven Cottage tomorrow.

Marco Silva had been worried about whether Ream and Carvalho would recover from knocks that saw them both substituted in Fulham's last league outing against Hull City last weekend – and the Fulham head coach also received a boost when Reed, who has yet to feature so far this season, has been passed fit having returned to training after ankle problems. The Whites are still without long-term absentees Tom Cairney and Terence Kongolo, whilst Silva suggests that Kenny Tete's hamstring strain could see the club enter the transfer market to sign a new right back.

"The injury to Kenny Tete changes our plans. We didn't expect to have to get someone in, but we have to try and get someone in for that position. Kenny is going to be out longer than we thought. It's more serious than we first thought."

The Fulham boss believes Stoke will represent Fulham's toughest test of the season so far.

"As always it will be a tough game. Stoke City are a good side with a good plan, good idea. They're clear with their idea of the way they want to play. They will be a tough side to beat, in my opinion. hey started the season well, they look confident, and they will come here to do their best, and we – Fulham Football Club – at our best level, we can win the game.

"We have our responsibilities in the game. We're playing at home, with our fans behind us, and we have to play at our best. We've started well, but myself and the football club always want more. We respect all our opponents, and nobody has won anything before the game has been played."

View from the opposition: Stoke City (h)

Ahead of Fulham's meeting with Stoke City at Craven Cottage tomorrow, we caught up with Potters' fan Ben Rowley, the founder of Stoke podcast The YYY-Files, to get the lowdown on our opponents.

What are your expectations of Stoke this season?
They're threefold. Firstly, a top half finish would be improvement on our last three seasons in the Championship, where we've finished 16th, 15th and 14th. Secondly, continuing the development of our talented bunch of young players is paramount as our older heads look to be getting closer to the exit door every season. Thirdly, I want us to have fun. We didn't have much of it on or off the pitch last year, I think Stoke fans are due a good time now.

What have you made of Stoke's start to the season
It's near perfect, isn't it? Despite only beating teams who have started their league seasons poorly, Stoke have faltered in these sorts of games in recent years. Plus, we've been good value for our results. We've been strong at the back, imperious in midfield and dangerous up front. Stoke usually don't start seasons well, so this is a welcome surprise for us all. Long may it continue.

What are your thoughts on Michael O'Neill?
He's not without his flaws, but he saved us from relegation when he came in almost two years ago and the Club has slowly been improving during that time. Not only is he getting results, he's developing a squad that is sustainable over the long term and one to be excited about. He's been assisted by Alex Aldridge in terms of recruitment, but O'Neill has a lot of credit banked at this point in time.

Who is the player to watch for Stoke?
So many players are in good form, but Jacob Brown has personified our improvement. He's clearly been looking after himself over the Summer and has come back motivated and more technically gifted too. His pressing is relentless and his hold-up play is improving week-on-week. I'd like to see him score a couple more goals himself, but he's a nuisance and he will allow others in the team to play their best football. One thing's for sure, you'll notice him.

What is your opinion on the Fulham side?
You have a remarkable squad and a manager who has seen relative success in this country. Stoke fans know that isn't necessarily enough to expect promotion, but your start to the season suggests you won't be making the same errors we did three years ago. Stoke were arrogant and entitled when they tried going up to the Premier League with a squad of unmotivated individuals. For your sake, you'd better hope your superstars can keep their head screwed on and their attention focussed in your pursuit for promotion.

How do you expect the game on Saturday to go?
It's not going to make or break either of our seasons, but it'll certainly lay down a marker if either wins. I can see both sides showing respect to each other here but I expect there to be plenty of quality on show across the pitch. I can see defensive displays outweighing the respective attacks, resulting in a relatively low-scoring game. But there's two teams here in great form and both would love a win, it's an exciting concept for sure.

Can you give us a score prediction?

'm gonna back Stoke here (to some degree) and say we'll come out with a 1-1 draw. I can see Stoke grabbing a goal from a Mario Vrancic set piece and Harry Souttar is perhaps the most likely to head home. Stoke have only really conceded from lapses in concentration so far, and we haven't gone behind once this season in League or Cup. Either way, enjoy the game and best of luck for the rest of your season (until we meet again).

Massive thanks to Ben for giving up his time to talk Stoke ahead of the game and we wish Michael O'Neill's men the very best for the remainder of the season.

Fulham U23s held at Villa

Fulham's under 23s were held at Aston Villa tonight – having to settle for a point against the league leaders despite taking an early lead through Conor McAvoy's second minute spot kick.

Steve Wigley's side gifted early pacesetters Villa a route back into the contest when Caleb Chukwuemeka capitalised on a mix-up between Taye Ashby-Hammond and the visiting defence to reach a through ball first and roll the equaliser home after rounding the Fulham goalkeeper. That meant that the sides went in level at the break despite the Londoners having the better of the first period.

Fulham made the perfect start when Terry Ablade was brought down by Paul Appiah and Lamare Bogarde in the box with just thirty seconds on the clock and McAvoy made no mistake from twelve yards, emphatically firing the penalty right down the middle of Viljami Sinisalo's goal. The Whites had good chances to make it 2-0 after Ablade was denied a second spot-kick with Sonny Hilton striking the post after a well-worked move.

Villa had already threatened through Tristan Goodridge before Chukwumeka's equaliser and both sides attacked with renewed purpose after the interval. Ollie O'Neill and Ablade both headed fractionally over before a brilliant piece of defending from McAvoy prevented Chukwuemeka from scoring his second of the evening when the Villa forward looked set to race through on Ashby-Hammond.

Hilton shot straight at Sinisalo after linking up impressively with Ablade, before McAvoy scrambled Chukwumeka's header off the line as Villa put the Fulham goal under serious pressure. The young Whites did have chances to win it in the closing stages with Luke Harris firing wide after fine work from Ablade down the right flank and Hilton narrowly missing the target with an angled drive.

ASTON VILLA UNDER 23s (4-3-3): Sinisalo; Appiah (Zito 59), Swinkels, Feeney, Bogarde; Lindley, Thorndike, Iroegbuman; Goodridge, Reddin, Chukwumeka. Subs (not used): Sewell, Hart, Tommi O'Reilly, Marschall.

BOOKED: Iroegbuman.

GOAL: Chukwumeka (32).

FULHAM UNDER 23s (4-2-3-1): T. Ashby-Hammond; Fossey, Larkeche, Odutayo, McAvoy; Pajaziti (Bowie 67), S. Sessegnon; Hilton, O'Neill, Harris; Ablade. Subs (not used): Las, C. Robinson, Davis.

BOOKED: Odutayo, O'Neill.

GOAL: McAvoy (2).

Christie 'not in Silva's plans'

Marco Silva has confirmed that Cyrus Christie is not in his plans and that the full back is trying to finalise an exit from Fulham before the end of the transfer window.

The Fulham head coach suggested that the club could be tempted back into the transfer market to sign a right back after scans revealed that Kenny Tete's hamstring injury is more serious than first thought. Christie has not featured since Silva took over from Scott Parker earlier this summer and has already turned down the chance to return to Nottingham Forest after being on loan at the City Ground last season.

Silva told his pre-match press conference earlier today:

"The situation with Kenny has opened a gap we are trying to cover. We have Denis [Odoi], and we believe in Denis, but he is a different profile as a right back. We need something different to have competition between them."

"Christie knows already my plans. He will not be involved. He's our player, but he's trying to sort his future."

Silva had more positive words for academy graduate Steven Sessegnon, who played in midfield tonight as Fulham's under 23s drew at Aston Villa.

"About Sessegnon, it's a different situation. He's a young player, we can keep him to work with him."

No way back for Christie at Fulham despite Tete injury

Fulham unexpectedly need a right-back – but it won't be Cyrus Christie, who has no future at Craven Cottage.

The Republic of Ireland international, 28, has featured only sparingly since he joined in January 2018, and he spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

He was relegated to playing for the Under-23s last week and boss Marco Silva has confirmed that Christie has been told to look for another club.

Silva said: "Cyrus is not part of our plans. He knows already of my decision and he knew this maybe three or four weeks ago, and he's trying to get his future done."

Fulham suffered the loss of right-back Kenny Tete to a hamstring injury against Hull last week.

The problem is more serious than was first thought and the club are therefore looking to bring in another right-back before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Silva explained: "The injury to Kenny Tete changes our plans. We didn't expect to have to get someone in, but we have to try and get someone in for that position.

"Kenny is going to be out longer than we thought. It's more serious than we first thought."

Fulham back in for Osayi-Samuel?

Reports from Turkey today are suggesting that Fulham are back in for Bright Osayi-Samuel and are hoping to conclude a deal for the Fenerbahce winger before the end of the summer transfer window.

Marco Silva was linked with a move for the former QPR man immediately after he took over from Scott Parker at Craven Cottage, but the two clubs reportedly could not agree on a transfer fee. That problem still remains, according to Sporx, with Fulham prepared to offer around £1.7m and Fenerbahce believed to holding out for around £4.2m.

The Nigerian international moved to Turkey in January after spending four years with QPR. He has made 23 appearances for Fenerbache to date, scoring a single goal.

Fulham: Fans react as Le Marchand departure announced

Lots of Fulham fans have flocked to a tweet from the London club sharing news of the latest player to depart from Craven Cottage.

On Friday morning, it was confirmed Maxime Le Marchand had completed a permanent move away from the Cottagers to join RC Strasbourg.

The 31-year-old joined Fulham back in 2018 from OGC Nice for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £3.6m, but only made 48 appearances during his three years at the club (via Transfermarkt).

Despite spending the back-end of last season out on loan at Royal Antwerp, these Fulham fans were left gutted by the announcement of his departure.
What exactly did these Fulham fans have to say?

"Today is a sad day what a chant this man had"
@Kebanothegoat
"Today is a sad day I wish him the best of luck! And I'll keep an eye on Strasbourg results for sure"
@FulhamItaly
"Good luck MLM, absolute GOAT status at Fulham for the chant alone"
@OOfulham
"MAXIME NOOOOOOOO"
@Joe_Gunning
"Devastated"
@FelixatFulham
"Sad"
@Rainbowfables

Le Marchand made 26 appearances during Fulham's brief spell back in the 2018/19 Premier League campaign, however, he only made two appearances last season in the English top-flight (via Transfermarkt).

Despite spirits being high after their impressive start to the new campaign, it is clear to see these Fulham fans have been left gutted by the Frenchman's departure.

Up next: Stoke City (h)

Fulham face arguably the sternest test of the emerging Championship campaign when Stoke City come to Craven Cottage in a mouthwatering table-topping clash this afternoon. Marco Silva's side might be sitting top of the table having recovered from a draw with Middlesbrough on the opening weekend by winning their following three fixtures, but Michael O'Neill's men have an identical record and are beginning to turn a few heads – especially with the manner of their excellent winner against Nottingham Forest last weekend suggesting that the former Northern Ireland boss has successfully tweaked their style to something that's much more pleasing on the eye.

O'Neill believes Fulham will represent 'a good yardstick' of how his side are progressing after an encouraging August. The visitors will benefit from being roared on by a sold-out away allocation and Stoke fans have every reason to be excited given the way their side has started the new season. They will be without the services of former Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell, who will be sidelined until after the international break having picked up an injury during City's win at Swansea City earlier this month. Although striker Tyrese Campbell, a scorer at Fulham's last visit to Stoke, and Tashan Oakley-Boothe have both resumed training after injury, the trip to the capital will come too soon for them to feature.

Stoke's strong start has shown that they have all the attributes of a strong side at Championship level. They have been miserly in defence, usually playing three centre backs. Harry Souttar's aerial ability makes him dangerous in both boxes, Ben Wilmot has the potential to be one of the signings of the summer after joining from Watford in June having helped the Hornets return to the Premier League and Leo Ostigard, outstanding for Coventry last season, was a shrewd acquisition on loan from Brighton. The trio have gelled effectively to add a sturdiness to a Stoke defence that had been a little leaky in previous seasons.

Saturday's defeat of Forest also demonstrated why O'Neill has been so keen to play with wing-backs. Tom Smith has quietly had a storming start down the right flank whilst Josh Tymon's first senior goal highlighted the potential that has been whispered about for a long while. Stoke have plenty of options in the centre of the park. Sam Clucas is a proven performer at this level and Joe Allen's ability, after his consistent displays over many years for Swansea and Liverpool, is also without question. Mario Vrancic, a crucial part of Norwich's Championship-winning side with ten goals and seven assists in 2019, is an excellent passer with serious set piece credentials.

The experienced Steven Fletcher will pose problems for any defence with his physicality and goalpoaching abilities, but the emergence of Jacob Brown has been a real bonus for Stoke so far this season. He can lead the sort of press that O'Neill looks to put on the opposition effortlessly and has the happy knack of making a real nuisance of himself. That pairing should start against Fulham and test whether the Whites are as defensively sound as they have looked in their first few outings under new management.

Silva's selection will be particularly interesting as Fulham – barring the enforced absence of Kenny Tete – are creeping closer to getting back to full strength. Tim Ream seems to have recovered from what had initially looked like a horrendous back injury against Hull City last weekend and should slot in again alongside Tosin Adarabioyo at the heart of the defence. Antonee Robinson followed up his first assist against the Tigers with a first goal for the club at Birmingham in the League Cup victory in midweek and so should keep hold of the left back berth. Silva suggested that Fulham might be venturing into the transfer market to find a replacement for the injured Tete and I would imagine that playing Bobby Decordova-Reid at right back might be too adventurous a solution against one of the division's form sides.

It will be intriguing to see how Silva's midfield shapes up. Harrison Reed seems set to be available for the first time this season after having finally proven his fitness following an ankle injury. There's no doubt that Fulham have looked a better side with him sitting in front of the back four ever since he joined from Southampton, but whether he will be considered sharp enough to displace either Josh Onomah or Jean Michael Seri, who have struck up an excellent rapport in the engine room, remains to be seen. Fabio Carvalho's availability is a huge boost. The teenager has quickly become an integral part of the Fulham side, with his energy and eye for goal, enlivening a team that looked rather pedestrian for much of last season. His burgeoning understanding with Aleksandar Mitrovic, whose new contract has given everyone a real lift, has been one of the most encouraging aspects of Marco Silva's reign so far.

MY FULHAM XI (4-2-3-1): Rodak; Odoi, Bryan, Adarabioyo, Ream; Reed, Seri; Decordova-Reid, Kebano, Carvalho; Mitrovic. Subs: Gazzaniga, Mawson, Francois, Anguissa, Onomah, Cavaleiro, Stansfield.

Fulham plot late seven-figure move for attacker

Fulham are working on a late deal for Fenerbahce attacker Bright Osayi-Samuel with them lining up a €2 million offer for the 23-year-old's services, according to Turkish outlet Sporx.

Osayi-Samuel is believed to be a player in-demand this summer with him facing an uncertain future with Fenerbahce. That comes despite having only arrived in Turkey from QPR in the winter transfer window last term.

It is believed by Sporx that Fenerbahce have fielded loan offers for the attacker during the summer transfer window, but they have not been prepared to sanction a temporary departure for him. That comes with them preferring a permanent exit for the 23-year-old.

Osayi-Samuel moved from QPR to Turkey midway through last term after a series of strong performances for the Rs in the Championship.

However, he only managed to score once in his 18 appearances for Fenerbahce in the second half of last term.

Fulham are thought to be ready to negotiate over a potential deal for Osayi-Samuel ahead of the transfer deadline. They are willing to come in with an initial offer of €2 million (£1.7 million).

However, it is believed by Sporx that Fenerbahce would be wanting to hold out for a fee nearer towards the €5 million (£4.3 million) mark. It is thought that negotiations are continuing as they search for a solution.

The verdict

This could be an exciting potential late addition to the squad for Fulham if they can secure an agreement with Fenerbahce over a potential deal for Osayi-Samuel.

The 23-year-old seems to be in need of a return to the Championship now to try and get his career back on track after trying his luck abroad with Fenerbahce.

The winger would add something different to Fulham's attacking options and he has the ability to drive at defenders and create and score goals in the final third.

In the first half of last term, Osayi-Samuel managed to fire home three goals and two assists in his 21 appearances. While in 2019/20 he managed 13 goal involvements in the Championship for QPR.

That shows that at Championship level, Osayi-Samuel is a danger to opposing defences and he would be a useful weapon for Marco Silva to be able to call upon to change games for Fulham.

It just depends, unfortunately. This environment is an empty room, speakers feeding back into the microphone. Unless the managers want to put on earbuds and a mic, the only other improvement would be for the video editor to obtain the audio source of the journalist and Silva separately. I imagine they are still using Ring Central for the conferences, so there should be a straight forward way to record, edit, then upload.

Fulham set sights on Fenerbahce winger Bright Osayi-Samuel

Fulham are said to be keen on signing former QPR winger Bright Osayi-Samuel from Fenerbahce.

Fulham are interested in striking a deal to bring him back to London before the end of the transfer window, according to Turkish news outlet Sporx.

Osayi-Samuel, who is 23-years-old, made the move to the Turkish Super Lig in January and penned a four-year deal.

However, he is now being linked with a swift return to England.

The Nigerian-born winger has made 23 appearances in all competitions since his move to Fenerbahce but has only managed a single goal.

Career in England

Osayi-Samuel rose up through the academy at Blackpool and went on to break into their first-team as a youngster.

He went on to play 79 games for the Tangerines and chipped in with five goals from the wing, playing a key role in their promotion from League Two in 2017 under Gary Bowyer.

The attacker was then lured away from the seaside by QPR shortly after and made a good impression with the London club.

He scored 15 goals in 115 matches for the Hoops before his move to Turkey earlier this year.

What now?

Fulham are being linked with a late swoop for Osayi-Samuel and it will be interesting to see if they get him.

They already have some top quality options going forward and bringing him to Craven Cottage would be another massive boost to their promotion aspirations.

Policing Survey

Policing at football matches is a subject of interest to all supporters, whether or not we have direct contact with officers on duty.

Whatever your views, there is a chance to express them in the online survey recently published by the Home Office.

The Trust maintains a strong link of communication with Fulham's Police Liaison Officer and we have had a representative on the Metropolitan Police Independent Advisory Group on policing at football since it was set up in 2018. The involvement of football fans in the way the game is policed is paramount to maintaining and improving the service, and your opinion is important, so the Trust is encouraging Fulham supporters to take ten minutes to complete the survey, which covers issues around policing at both home and away fixtures.

If you have any queries with the survey please contact the UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU) directly via [email protected].
