Fulham continue Grimes pursuit as Swans turn down latest bid

There are some deals that threaten to go right to the wire before getting agreed and it now seems as if Matt Grimes to Fulham is going to be one of those deals this deadline day.

News comes through now that the Swans have turned down the latest offer from West London which was creeping towards the £3m barrier as they look to secure the best deal possible for their seemingly wantaway captain.

Not an overly cryptic tweet from Stuart James but one that probably suggests that the two clubs are coming closer to agreeing a deal for Grimes who looks seemingly unlikely to be a Swansea player come the closure of the window.

This is now at least the third bid that Fulham have had turned down and it's relatively clear that they are not ready to give up yet so it gets almost to the stage of seeing who blinks first with Grimes looking set to be potentially the latest to leave the Swans on this deadline day.

An interesting evening ahead.

Official: Anguissa joins Napoli from Fulham

Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa has officially completed his move from Fulham to Napoli, on loan with option to buy for €15m.

The contract was deposited with the Lega Serie A and the announcement made by the Italian club.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the 25-year-old is making the move on loan with the option to buy set at €15m.

The Cameroon international has four goals in 29 senior caps for his country.

Fulham spent €25m to sign Anguissa from Olympique Marseille in 2018, but he asked to move on following their relegation from the Premier League to the Championship.

He already had a loan spell in Spain with Villarreal in 2019-20.

Napoli were seeking midfield options after a serious injury for Diego Demme.

Anguissa completes Napoli loan move

Fulham midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa has signed a year-long extension to his Craven Cottage contract and completed a season long loan move to Napoli.

The Cameroonian international had told Marco Silva of his desire to leave Craven Cottage on the eve of the new campaign, saying he wasn't willing to play in the Championship. Fulham had been holding out for a £20m offer for the 25 year-old midfielder, but decided to accept Napoli's offer of a loan in order to get Anguissa's sizeable wages off the books to ensure FFP compliance.

Anguissa was keen to join Napoli, who will have the option to purchase him permanently for around £13m at the end of his loan spell at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. The former Marseilles midfielder has made 66 appearances for Fulham and starred on loan at Villarreal, where he moved the last time the Whites were relegated from the Premier League. He will be under contract at Craven Cottage until the end of the 2023/2024 season.

Swansea City respond as Fulham make another move for star man

Fulham have seen another improved offer for Swansea City midfielder Matt Grimes rejected by the Welsh club, according to the Athletic's live transfer blog (31/08/21, 17:10).

Grimes has been on Fulham's transfer radar for a while now this summer, and they have been making efforts to try and finally secure a deal for the midfielder on the final day of the transfer window.

It has already been reported today that Fulham have submitted an improved offer to Swansea that is believed to be in excess of £2.5 million to try and get them to agree to let the midfielder leave the club.

That comes with the Cottagers still aiming to add to their midfield options before the window is closed, with Andre-Frank Anguissa thought to be closing in on a loan deal to Serie A side Napoli in a deal that includes a €17.3 million option to buy.

However, according to the Athletic's live transfer blog (31/08/21, 17:10), their latest offer to Swansea for Grimes has once again been rejected by the Welsh club.

Fulham could still yet make a renewed effort to sign Grimes and the Athletic also believes that Marco Silva's side are in the market possibly to also add another right-back before the window shuts.

The verdict

This is another frustrating setback for Fulham in their efforts to get a deal for Grimes over the line this summer. It is a transfer saga that continues to rumble on and it seems at this stage that Swansea are going to be able to just about keep hold of their star player.

Grimes would be an excellent signing if the Londoners can pull it off and the midfielder is the sort of player that would add much to their already strong midfield options.

With Silva's men having started the campaign so well a move there must be an appealing prospect for Grimes. Although the midfielder has a strong relationship with Swansea and is not seeming to be going all out to force the Welsh club into selling him.

Fulham are going to have to once again up their latest offer now if they are going to be able to secure a move for the midfielder.

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa has made a total of 66 appearances for Fulham since joining from Marseille for a fee of £22.3m in 2018

Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa has joined Italian side Napoli on a season-long loan, after extending his contract with the London club.

The Cameroon international's new deal will keep him at Craven Cottage until the summer of 2024.

The 25-year-old, who joined the Whites from Marseille three years ago, has made three appearances this season.

He spent the 2019-20 campaign, when Fulham were last in the second tier, on loan at Spanish outfit Villarreal.

Anguissa featured 38 times in all competitions last season as Fulhamn were relegated from the Premier League.

Napoli are fifth in Serie A after two games of the new campaign and have been drawn in the same Europa League group as Leicester City.

Anguissa has signed a new three-year deal at Craven Cottage, which will expire in 2024. He has scored four goals in 29 appearances for Cameroon since making his debut in 2017.
