Blackburn Rovers 0-7 Fulham

Fulham's Neeskens Kebano had only scored his first goal of the season against Nottingham Forest a week ago

Free-scoring Fulham thrashed 10-man Blackburn to rack up 20 goals in five straight wins as they narrowed the gap on leaders Bournemouth to two points at the top of the Championship table.

Rovers came into the game with back-to-back wins, but were ruthlessly unpicked by a Fulham side in rich form since the return from the international break.

It only took six minutes for the Cottagers to take the lead, after Neeskens Kebano slammed in Bobby Decordova-Reid's cut-back from the by-line after a teasing run down the right.

Aleksandar Mitrovic met a near-post corner to power in his 19th of the season and double the lead and the dismissal of Jan Paul van Hecke for a reckless challenge on Harry Wilson soon after was a further blow to the hosts.

Rovers goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski made smart saves to palm away Harrison Reed's effort and deny Mitrovic on the angle to keep the score down, but it was only a temporary reprieve.

Wilson scored two quickfire goals as Fulham made the man advantage count, driving into the box after being picked out on the right by a wonderful crossfield pass before beautifully curling in the fourth.

Despite Blackburn's best efforts to fight back, the visitors added further misery when Kebano hammered in a fifth from the right of the area to grab his second and Rodrigo Muniz's late double brought more boos from the home fans.

In Ben Brereton Diaz and Mitrovic this game pitted two of the division's most prolific scorers against each other, and it was the latter who benefitted from his side's dominance to come out on top in their duel.

At times, Marco Silva's side were mesmerising in their movement and passing, and ruthlessly clinical in front of goal with it to take their season's tally to 42.

They have also added defensive steel to their relentless attack too, and this was their fourth clean sheet in a row. It is now 395 minutes since they conceded a goal in the league.

For Rovers boss Tony Mowbray the boos will have hurt as his players left the field because despite the scoreline they were committed throughout despite few genuine opportunities to trouble Marek Rodak.

Tyrhys Dolan did test the Slovakia keeper with a low drive in the first half having cut in off the right, while Brereton Diaz blazed an effort over the top on the angle from the right.

But Van Hecke's red card left Blackburn at a numerical disadvantage and, in their bid to keep the game alive, they allowed Fulham the space to run up a huge win.

Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray told BBC Radio Lancashire:
"We found it very difficult to stop their flow, they took their chances as they came. I know the first two goals were very poor to concede, it's a very long time since I've seen us concede one like the first one from a corner at the near post.

"I don't think tonight is a time to pore over it, we'll pore over it tomorrow with the team. That's not the team you see when you support Blackburn Rovers and it's only the second time in a year we've lost by more than one goal.

"If it was a common theme that we were losing by three, four or five on a regular basis you would see a soft underbelly of the team but I don't think that's the case. But tonight we have to take it on the chin."

Fulham boss Marco Silva told BBC Radio London:
"It was a fantastic win for us, but we know it's just three points. We have to be humble enough to know that we did fantastic in scoring seven goals in this competition away from home and keeping a clean sheet, but it is just three points.

"We have to be happy, to congratulate the players who have fantastic momentum but we have to keep our feet on the floor, we have to be humble and start to prepare for the next game.

"We have to keep going, we know we won't win all the games, but I don't want to see the stats we had last month, because a winning mentality is what we're trying to achieve.

"What we did in the second half was to keep doing good things and it's compulsory for us to want to keep the clean sheet."

Post-Blackburn Press Conference

While clearly delighted with Fulham's phenomenal display at Ewood Park, Marco Silva stressed that nobody will be getting carried away.

The Whites absolutely flattened Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night, claiming a remarkable 7-0 victory on the road.

"Fantastic win for us," Silva admitted. "We know that it's just three points, though.

"We have to be balanced and humble enough to know that we did fantastically, scoring seven goals in this competition away from home and keeping a clean sheet, the numbers are there and that's fantastic for us. But they are just three points.

"We have to be happy, we have to definitely congratulate our players. They have fantastic momentum, we want to keep it, but in the meantime we have to keep our feet on the floor, be humble, and start to prepare for the next one.

"You always have to be like that, even though everyone is really happy and our fans are proud of us and that's everything that we want, but we have to know that this competition is a marathon. But of course we are happy."

He continued: "We have to keep going. We know that we will not win all the matches, but I don't want to see backwards steps again like we had [in September], because that winning mentality and consistency is everything that we're trying to achieve. Tonight we showed that.

"I told our players during half-time that okay we scored two goals and started the game really well, we were efficient really as we had two chances and scored two goals, but I told our players that we have to keep that winning mentality, so I'm really pleased with the way we won the game."

Aleksandar Mitrović has rightly won plaudits with his scoring exploits this season. He was on the scoresheet again, but the strikes were shared out, with Harry Wilson, Neeskens Kebano and substitute Rodrigo Muniz each nabbing a brace.

"It's fantastic for me," Silva said. "Normally my wingers score goals, and my offensive midfielders as well, and they know – Bobby, Kebano, Harry – they know how I demand from them that they take the right decision to score goals and arrive in the right spots as well.

"Even our central defenders know that I am demanding we score more goals from set-pieces with central defenders. It's very important we start to spread our goals through the other players."

The Peterborough United public have spoken and JCH has to play against Fulham! 'If he doesn't start I'm not going, others can do his running, we need a bully in the side'

The Peterborough Telegraph launched a quickfire poll today on whether or not striker Jonson Clarke-Harris should start for Peterborough United against Fulham on Saturday (November 6) after his point-saving performance against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.

Almost 500 votes were cast on Twitter in three hours with a whopping 91.3% wanting to see the big number nine back in the starting line-up!

Here are some of the comments posted by supporters to @PTAlan Swann.

If he is not starting then I won't be going. When he came on last night we looked a far better side.

@wackerlegend

JCH up top with Dembele and Szmodics just off him doing all his running.

@Liampufc1996

We might just sneak a set piece goal ourselves with JCH in the side and after he scoredgainst Huddersfield it bodes well.

@TonyCupoli

Aboslute no brainer. Yes he starts.

@talkSPORTDrive

Anyone who says he shouldn't start is deluded. We ain't going to out-football teams in this division. Play to our strengths, get the ball up to him and then get Dembele/Sammie feeding off him.

@bluearmy1989

Posh were 20 yards further up the pitch when he came on against Huddersfield. It was good to see the attacking trio of JCH, Szmodics and Dembele, which served Posh so well last season, finally reunited.

@PoshboyAlan

Yes to JCH. He scored against Huddersfield and we need a centre forward to match Mitrovic.

@Alexnelson2004

JCH gives extra height at both ends of the pitch.

@poshskin1105

JCH should start on Saturday. He will be helpful defensively, but will allow also us to get forward. If it's Dembele up top then Cornell's goal kicks will just come straight back towards our goal.

@juppy95

Play him as we need someone to try and bully the defence and win balls when we inevitably start playing long.

@E_Sure91

No he shouldn't play. Quick counter attacks are our best chance against Fulham, not long ball. I would change at half time if we can't get out though as there's a good argument either way.

@CrispLevi

Of course he should start. He is fit, he is not banned. Let's not forget he was the best player in League One last year and the top goalscorer. We wouldn't be here without him and we have hardly set the world alight when he has not played.

@joeldowland

Play him. JCH wants a scrap so let's see if Fulham get drawn into it and have runners off of him.

@DazMoody

Hearing him say he wants to fight defenders is exactly what we need on Saturday so play him.

@PaddySkinhead

Don't play him. Fulham will have lots of possession so we need to be quick on the counter attack.

The Manager of the Month curse: Fact or fiction?

Although the Sky Bet Manager of the Month is a symbol of recognition for a coach's hard work and dedication over the course of a month-long period and a reward for all of that labour, for some, the honour can be somewhat of a jinx, or so we've heard.

With two down and the October nominees imminent, analysing data from the 2021/22 season, can we debunk the myth or prove the truth?

The winners
Fulham boss Marco Silva, Sunderland manager Lee Johnson and Forest Green Rovers head coach Rob Edwards formed the line-up for the Sky Bet Championship, Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two Manager of the Month for August in the first round of monthly awards. Meanwhile, Bournemouth's Scott Parker, Milton Keynes Dons' Liam Manning and Port Vale's Darrell Clarke scooped the accolades for September.

The MOTM hangover
Fulham's shock defeat to Blackpool at the beginning of September epitomised the theory. Josh Bowler's strike was the difference, as Championship Manager of the Month for August Marco Silva's side went down to a slender 1-0 midweek loss to the Tangerines, bringing about the end of the then-League leaders' five-game unbeaten streak in what might be termed the hangover defeat.

Similarly, high-flying MK Dons, who entered the month of October level with second-placed Wigan Athletic and three points behind table toppers Sunderland, experienced a dip in form, slipping to back-to-back defeats to Doncaster Rovers and – after Liam Manning was crowned the League One Manager of the Month for September – Shrewsbury Town.

Port Vale, meanwhile, started the month on the front foot, as Darrell Clarke's men overcame Leyton Orient. A three-minute turnaround securing maximum points for the Valiants, who were trailing 2-1 heading into the dying moments of the game, before striking twice in injury time to complete a stirring fightback.

However, they were on the wrong side of a seven-goal thriller with Sutton United the following weekend, a day after Clarke was named the League Two Manager of the Month for September – hence, the curse of the gong and a preference to fly under the radar, as it were, by many teams.

The stats
Teams with a winning manager averaged just upwards of two points per game in the month following the win, down from an average 2.4 points per game in the month prior to the accolade, suggesting there is a downward trend, but whether that's down to circumstantial factors, forces working against them or the mental aftereffects of winning the award, is down to the individual team and/or manager.

The Dons saw the greatest spiral, dropping four places from third position, at the beginning of October, to seventh place by the end of the month. Elsewhere, Fulham also slipped to third by the end of September, having occupied the top spot at the beginning of the month, when Silva was awarded the monthly prize.

Sunderland and Forest Green held onto the coveted top spot in League One and League Two respectively, whilst Bournemouth climbed up to the summit of the Championship standings from second place, and Vale also jumped up two places from fourth to second.

The bounce-back victory
One thing was congruous among the recipient teams was the big post-accolade win, which usually comes towards the end of the following month, if the proof in the pudding is anything to go by.

Read into it what you will but each of the six winners over the course of August and September scored four or more goals in a thumping victory the month after scooping the award.

For Fulham, the win came against Birmingham City just four days after the Cottagers were bested by Blackpool. Silva's side ran out 4-1 winners, only conceding a Troy Deeney penalty-kick in the final minutes of the game, to re-assert their status after their undefeated start to the season was shattered in the same week.

Meanwhile, Sunderland vanquished Cheltenham Town 5-0 to finish September on a high note, and Forest Green Rovers saw off League Two strugglers Stevenage 4-0, as the Black Cats extended their lead at the top of League One to three points by the end of the month, whilst Forest Green sat four points clear at the summit by the close of September.

More recently, both MK Dons and Port Vale registered identical 4-1 score-lines in their favour against Crewe Alexandra and Crawley Town last time out at the weekend.

The anomalies
Of course, the logic can't be applied to every team. As always, there are likely to be teams and results that stray from what's expected, and anomalies to the pattern; Bournemouth's unstoppable vein of form being one. The Cherries were the only team who preserved a 100% record in the month following Scott Parker receiving the award, scoring 10 goals and conceding just the one against Sheffield United.

By and large, the season will tell whether the curse of the Manager of the Month persists, but the so-called hex has already found a handful of teams wanting, tripping up the likes of Fulham and MK Dons, and it can be agreed that the real challenge comes after receiving the honour.

Superb Fulham batter 10-man Blackburn

Harry Wilson, Neeskens Kebano and Rodrigo Muniz all scored twice and Aleksandar Mitrovic netted his 19th Championship goal of the season as Fulham ran riot.

It was totally one-sided game at Ewood Park, where Blackburn defender Jan-Paul van Hecke was sent off.

The win was Fulham's fifth in a row and they took their goal tally to 44 in 16 league games.

And it was the Whites' biggest league win since 1969.

They were two up within 20 minutes against sorry Rovers.

Kebano fired home the opener after Bobby De Cordova-Reid had pulled the back from the right, and Mitrovic doubled the lead with a header from John Michael Seri's left-wing corner.

Worse followed for the hosts on the half-hour mark when Van Hecke was red-carded for a ridiculous neck-high challenge on Wilson near the halfway line.

Fulham looked home and dry by that stage – and two more goals in the space of four minutes early in the second half removed any doubt.

Wilson collected Mitrovic's cross-field ball and feinted to cut inside from the right but went outside and shot through keeper Thomas Kaminski's legs.

Mitrovic also set up Wilson's second, linking up nicely with De Cordova-Reid and playing the ball to his right for the Wales forward to apply the finish.

Kebano's deflected strike made it five and he then crossed for Muniz to add the sixth.

Muniz, on as a substitute, headed in Antonee Robinson's stoppage-time cross to complete the rout on a great night for Fulham, who closed the gap at the top to two points as leaders Bournemouth lost at home to Preston.

Fulham: Rodak, Odoi, Hector, Ream, Robinson, Reed, Seri (Cairney 59), De Cordova-Reid (Carvalho 73), Wilson, Kebano, Mitrovic (Muniz 67).
Subs not used: Gazzaniga, Tete, Mawson, Onomah.

Report: Rovers 0-7 Fulham

It was a night to forget for Rovers who suffered their heaviest defeat of the season against a classy and ruthless Fulham at Ewood Park.

After first-half strikes from Neeskens Kebano and Aleksandar Mitrovic put the visitors two goals ahead, the half was made worse when Jan Paul van Hecke was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Harry Wilson on the half an hour mark.

That man Wilson punished Rovers further early into the second half before the same player completed his brace just four minutes later to make it 4-0 just before the hour mark.

Marco Silva's side never let up and bagged a fifth through Kebano's second of the night from close range, with the strike taking a deflection before finding the back of the net.

There was still time for goals six and seven to arrive, with substitute Rodrogio Muniz bagging a quickfire double of his own in the final 10 minutes to complete the rout for the rampaging Whites.

Tony Mowbray was forced into one change against the Londoners, with injury keeping Sam Gallagher out of contention for the clash under the lights at Ewood Park.

With the frontman left out of the squad, John Buckley featured further forward, with the decision helped by Ryan Nyambe's return to fitness and return to the starting lineup.

It took only six minutes for the visitors to take the lead, with Kebano firing into the back of the net from eight yards out. The work down the right from Bobby Decordova-Reid saw him wriggle past Joe Rothwell, get into the box, pass back to the DR Congo winger to fire home.

That lead was doubled on 18 minutes as in form frontman Mitrovic nodded home from close range. Jean Michael Seri delivered an inch-perfect inswinging corner, which landed on the head of the Serbian striker for his 19th league goal of the campaign.

Rovers had to respond and they did, with Tyrhys Dolan testing Marek Rodak at his near post before Bradley Johnson's strike was deflected wide of the Slovakian's left-hand post.

Things got worse for Rovers on the half-hour mark as Mowbray's men were reduced to 10 men when van Hecke was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Harry Wilson.

It stemmed from a Fulham breakaway, and after Welsh winger Wilson controlled the ball, van Hecke was late, with his boot chest high, leaving Jarred Gillett with no choice but to send the Dutchman for an early bath.

Against the odds and a defender light, Mowbray was forced to bring Hayden Carter on to keep his back four, with Buckley sacrificed to accommodate the powerful defender.

The visitors could and should have killed off any chance of a Rovers fightback through Harrison Reed, but the former Rover, who spent the 2018-19 campaign on loan at Ewood Park, saw Thomas Kaminski in his way.

Moments later and Mitrovic nearly doubled his personal tally for the night, but Kaminski was there to block again and ensure Rovers went into the interval only two goals down.

Decordova-Reid almost added a third of the night for the Whites just five minutes into the second half, but Kaminski was there to stop the former Bristol City man from prodding into the back of the net.

Antonee Robinson's attacking run and strike whistled wide a moment later before Wilson wrapped the points up on 55 minutes with a composed finish. Mitrovic opened the game up with a perfect ball to the right flank, with Wilson taking it on his unfavoured right boot and tucking between the legs of Kaminski.

Gloss was added just three minutes later as the same man curled beyond Kaminski from inside the box after being fed by that man Mitrovic once again as a fourth went into the back of the net.

Rovers had to keep persevering and Brereton Diaz saw his looping header comfortably held by Rodak in a rare foray forward from the home side.

At the other end, Fulham fired home a fifth as Kebano sent a strike towards goal that clipped former Whites player Edun on the way to finding a way past Kaminski.

Worse followed just minutes later as the score went to 6-0 with substitute Muniz powering a strike into the net after latching onto a deep cross from the right to punish Rovers further on home turf.

The same man added a seventh in injury time to complete the thrashing and continue Fulham's charge towards the top of the table.

Rovers will be hoping to recover when Sheffield United make the trip to Ewood Park on Saturday 6th November, kick-off 3pm.

Attendance: 9,326.

Rampant Fulham put seven past Blackburn to close gap to Bournemouth at top of Championship

Fulham put seven unanswered goals past ten-man Blackburn at Ewood Park to move within two points of Championship leaders Bournemouth.

Harry Wilson, Neeskens Kebano and Rodrigo Muniz all scored twice each, with the division's top scorer Aleksandr Mitrovic also on target in the 7-0 thrashing as Rovers capitulated after Jan Paul van Hecke's 30th-minute red card for a high tackle on Wilson.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, suffered their first league defeat of the season as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Preston, Alistair McCann's strike 12 minutes from time proving decisive after Philip Billing had cancelled out Ben Whiteman's opener.

The two sides are now separated by just two points as they continue to lead the race for automatic promotion, with West Brom remaining four points adrift of Fulham in third after Karlan Grant's goal earned a 1-0 win over Hull.

Elsewhere, QPR continued their playoff push with a 1-0 victory away to struggling Cardiff thanks to Andre Gray's first half effort, the three points taking them up to fifth.

Blackburn Rovers 0-7 Fulham: Cottagers hit seven in Ewood Park romp

Report and highlights from the Sky Bet Championship clash between Blackburn Rovers and Fulham at Ewood Park as Neeskens Kebano, Harry Wilson and Rodrigo Muniz grabbed doubles, and Aleksandar Mitrovic also scored, in a romp for the Cottagers.

Fulham closed the gap on Sky Bet Championship leaders Bournemouth after a crushing 7-0 win at 10-man Blackburn.

Marco Silva's men were utterly ruthless as they swatted aside a Blackburn team who had lost only once on home turf this season.

Any discussion of a tricky night was put to bed within 19 minutes as the Cottagers raced into a two-goal lead through Neeskens Kebano's precise finish and a close-range Aleksandar Mitrovic header - his ninth goal in the last five games.

The game was effectively ended as a contest on the half hour when Blackburn's Jan Paul Van Hecke was dismissed for a dangerous tackle and Fulham ran riot thereafter.

Harry Wilson's brace in the space of four second-half minutes - a controlled 54th-minute strike followed by a powerful effort struck beyond Thomas Kaminski made it four but they were merciless and Kebano's deflected shot made it five in the 79th minute.

Substitute Rodrigo Muniz netted a brace of his own by converting Kebano's cross and clinically heading home in stoppage time as Fulham moved within two points of Bournemouth after a fifth successive win that has yielded 20 goals.

The Cottagers wasted no time showcasing their firepower, hitting the front in the sixth minute when Bobby Decordova-Reid weaved his way into the box and squared for Kebano, who timed his run to perfection and rifled into the top corner.

The 19th minute brought goal 19 of the season for Mitrovic, who was given the freedom of the six-yard box to nod in Jean Michael Seri's pinpoint corner from close range.

Ben Brereton Diaz struck the side netting for Blackburn but that was as good as it got, as Van Hecke saw red on the half hour for a high challenge that upended Wilson.

Fulham seized total control and their lead would have been bigger at the break but for Kaminski superbly denying both Harrison Reed and Mitrovic.

The pattern continued after the break, with Kaminski producing heroics to deny Decordova-Reid when clean through, but the inevitable third came in the 54th minute when Mitrovic's wonderful ball found Wilson who coolly slotted under Kaminski.

He had his fifth of the season and Fulham's fourth just four minutes later, profiting from Mitrovic's quick thinking before hammering into the left corner.

A brutal evening for Rovers got worse as Kebano fortuitously notched his third of the campaign with a deflected 79th-minute strike and two minutes later, his inviting cross found Muniz who prodded home for Fulham's sixth.

Muniz put Fulham in seventh heaven in the 91st minute, powering home a near-post header from Antonee Robinson's cross as Fulham sent out an ominous statement to the league and capped off a chastening night for the hosts.

What the managers said...
Blackburn's Tony Mowbray: "The first two were very poor to concede, I have to say. It's been a long time I've seen us concede one like the second, a corner into the six-yard box, headed straight in. That just hasn't happened to us for a long time. Listen, like I said, it's not the time for me to sit here and pore over it. Generally, that is not the team you see when you support Blackburn Rovers. I think it's the second time in the year we've lost by more than one.

"If it was a common theme that we were losing three, four, five on a regular basis, you'd see the soft underbelly of the team. But I don't think that's the case. This team deserves a little bit more credit but on a night like tonight, there's no credit. We have to accept it. We have to put it behind us very quickly."

Fulham's Marco Silva: "We know we won't win all the matches but I don't want to see any steps back like last month, because the winning mentality, and consistency is everything we're trying to achieve. We showed that. I told our players at half-time, we have to keep going. We scored two goals. Started the game really well, efficiently. Had two chances and scored two goals. Very first moment, our first goal. Second goal, one moment that we prepared was to exploit that spot in the box, and we did fantastically.

"After the red card, against 10 players, we were really serious. I told our players that we have to keep the winning mentality and what we did in the second half means that. Scoring more goals, respecting them of course. But the best way to respect them, ourselves and our fans is to keep doing this to good teams. We have a lot of confidence in ourselves."

Fulham smash seven past sorry Blackburn

Fulham underlined their promotion credentials by scoring seven times at Ewood Park this evening, inflicting upon Blackburn Rovers their worst ever home defeat. Fulham's biggest league win since 1969 was built around sensational contributions from wingers Neeskens Kebano and Harry Wilson, who both scored twice. Aleksandar Mitrovic notched his nineteenth goal of an already incredible campaign and Blackburn, who had Jan-Paul van Hecke sent off for a head high assault on Wilson in the first period, had no respite when the Serbian was substituted. His replacement Rodrigo Muniz grabbed a late double to round a memorable away day for Marco Silva's side.

The visitors were in control from the outset with Michael Hector's return to the side due to Tosin Adarabioyo's suspension largely passing unnoticed. Fulham's early intent was displayed by an ambitious attempt from Mitrovic to beat Thomas Kaminski from the halfway line and they had to wait only two further minutes to go in front. Bobby Decordova-Reid marked his hundredth appearance for the club with some dazzling footwork as he danced away from two tacklers along the byline and cut an inviting cross back for Kebano, who rifled high into the net from nine yards out.

Mitrovic doubled Fulham's lead before the twenty minute mark with a thumping header from Jean Michael Seri's corner after the in-form marksman had peeled away from his marker. Rovers did mount an attempt to respond with Tyrhys Dolan forcing a near post save from Marek Rodak and Bradley Johnson seeing his shot deflected wide. Ben Brereton-Diaz, whose twelve goals have underpinned Blackburn's encouraging start, was kept relatively quiet by the away defence with the Chilean international blazing over from his first glimpse of goal.

Blackburn's hopes of getting back into the contest disappeared after half an hour when van Hecke was dismissed for an awfully mistimed challenge that saw his boot make contact with Wilson's head. Jared Gillett's red card was a formality and Mowbray quickly reorganised sending on Hayden Carter for John Buckley. Wilson wasn't seriously hurt and he quickly fashioned a chance for Harrison Reed, who was denied a goal against the side he spent time on loan by a smart fingertip save from Kaminski. The home goalkeeper also did well to thwart Mitrovic before half time and you felt Rovers were pleased to get into the interval only two down.

Fulham's pressure continued in the second period. Wilson almost caught out Kaminski from long range but his 50-yarder dropped wide of goal and the Belgian goalkeeper then spread himself well to save from Decordova-Reid after an intelligent pass from Mitrovic put the former Bristol City forward through on goal. It should certainly have been three ten minutes after the break but Antonee Robinson squandered a glorious opportunity after outstanding approach play from Wilson, shooting wastefully wide from seven yards

But the third goal was coming and Mitrovic turned provider with a raking 40-yard ball out to the right to release Wilson, who raced into the area, faced up a defender and tucked a right-footed finish between Kaminski and the near post. Wilson needed just four minutes to double his tally, curling home clinically on his left foot after being found by a perceptive Mitrovic pass. Mitrovic was then withdrawn in favour of Muniz, but this was no act of mercy on Marco Silva's part.

The Fulham head coach also introduced former Rovers favourite Tom Cairney as his peerless playmaker continues to regain match sharpness after such a long spell on the sidelines. He almost created a goal for Muniz but the Brazilian headed a floated over the bar. Kebano grabbed his second when he was allowed to spin inside the area having been located by Cairney and his snapshot deflected in off the grounded Johnson.

The Congolese winger, one of Fulham's most consistent performers this season, then produced a peach of cross for Muniz to turn home number six. Fabio Carvalho, who has reportedly turned down Fulham's offer of a new deal, came off the bench and might have found the target himself but the teenager drove into the side netting after being played in by the peerless Wilson. Brittle Blackburn's misery was completed in the first minute of injury time when Muniz majestically headed in a seventh from Robinson's excellent cross.

Silva's side sent out an ominous warning by ruthlessly running through Rovers, who possessed the second best home record in the division at the start of play. To round off the perfect evening, the Whites are now just two points behind league leaders Bournemouth, who lost their unbeaten record after suffering a surprise home defeat at the hands of Preston North End.

Fulham put seven past 10-man Blackburn to close gap at Championship summit
Preston also stunned leaders Bournemouth tonight.

FULHAM CLOSED THE gap on Sky Bet Championship leaders Bournemouth after a crushing 7-0 win at 10-man Blackburn.

Marco Silva's men were utterly ruthless as they swatted aside a Blackburn team who had lost only once on home turf this season.

Any discussion of a tricky night was put to bed within 19 minutes as the Cottagers raced into a two-goal lead through Neeskens Kebano's precise finish and a close-range Aleksandar Mitrovic header – his ninth goal in the last five games.

The game was effectively ended as a contest on the half hour when Blackburn's Jan Paul Van Hecke was dismissed for a dangerous tackle and Fulham ran riot thereafter.

Harry Wilson's brace in the space of four second-half minutes – a controlled 54th-minute strike followed by a powerful effort struck beyond Thomas Kaminski made it four but they were merciless and Kebano's deflected shot made it five in the 79th minute.

Elsewhere, Ali McCann's first Preston goal stunned Scott Parker's leaders by sentencing Bournemouth to their first Championship defeat of the season.

Ben Whiteman was also on target with Philip Billing replying for the Cherries as Preston picked up their first away win of the campaign.

Bournemouth were without the injured Jordan Zemura so Wales defender Chris Mepham was pressed into action as a makeshift left-back.

Jamal Lowe and Ben Pearson also came into the side at the expense of Gavin Kilkenny and Jaidon Anthony as the Cherries started the game with the team that ended Saturday's 2-0 win at Reading.

The Cherries dictated the opening half an hour without managing to trouble Preston goalkeeper Daniel Iversen.

Billing's 13th-minute free-kick after Dominic Solanke had been fouled which the Denmark midfielder curled tamely wide was as close as they came to turning their territorial domination into a goal.

Top-scorer Solanke was well-marshalled by Preston defender Patrick Bauer in particular.

Bauer did well to get there ahead of Solanke after Columbian international Jefferson Lerma looked to have played him through on Iversen's goal.

Preston started the evening 19 points below their table-topping hosts but came close to opening the scoring 11 minutes before half-time.

Tom Barkhuizen used his pace to burst beyond Mepham on the right wing before shooting into the side-netting from an acute angle.

Barkhuizen carved another chance for the visitors soon after, recycling a corner back into the penalty area for Josh Earl to volley goalwards, drawing a brave block from defender Lloyd Kelly.

Solanke was denied by a vital last-ditch tackle from nemesis Bauer when he would have been one-on-one with Iversen a minute after the restart.

Preston then showed their quality at the other end to break the deadlock courtesy of Whiteman's 52nd-minute opener.

Barkhuizen raced into space on the right flank before picking out Whiteman 12 yards out and the midfielder expertly picked out the top left corner with a pinpoint strike.

Eight minutes later and Just as Bournemouth boss Parker was preparing to go to his substitutes' bench, the Cherries equalised through Billing.

Jack Stacey's low right-wing cross was only half-cleared by Sean Maguire and Billing reacted quickly to turn onto the loose ball and fire into the bottom right corner.

Bournemouth were almost gifted the lead when Andy Hughes sliced a clearance across the face of his own goal.

Mepham forced a smart save from Iversen with a 20-yard effort as the hosts pushed for a late winner while Solanke also headed wide from Ryan Christie's free-kick.

But it was Preston who scored again in the 78th minute when McCann swept home from Emil Riss' left-wing cross.

Iversen made a brilliant double save from Stacey and Jamal Lowe to stop Bournemouth equalising for a second time in the 85th minute.

Silva insists Fulham 'have to be humble' after thumping win

Marco Silva insisted Fulham "have to be humble" after a 7-0 hammering of Blackburn.

Silva's team were brilliant as the Whites stormed to the club's biggest league win since 1969.

But he said: "We have to be humble enough to know that we did fantastic in scoring seven goals away from home and keeping a clean sheet, but it is just three points.

"We have to be happy, to congratulate the players, who have fantastic momentum. But we have to keep our feet on the floor and we have to be humble. We have to keep going."

Silva seeks humility after 'fantastic' Fulham win

Marco Silva insists Fulham will take nothing for granted after putting seven goals past Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park tonight.

The Portuguese head coach was delighted with his side's thumping victory – which leaves them just two points behind league leaders Bournemouth – but is refusing to get carried away after five straight wins. He told his post-match press conference:

"Fantastic win for us. We know that it's just three points, though. We have to be balanced and humble enough to know that we did fantastically, scoring seven goals in this competition away from home and keeping a clean sheet, the numbers are there and that's fantastic for us. But they are just three points.

We have to be happy, we have to definitely congratulate our players. They have fantastic momentum, we want to keep it, but in the meantime we have to keep our feet on the floor, be humble, and start to prepare for the next one. You always have to be like that, even though everyone is really happy and our fans are proud of us and that's everything that we want, but we have to know that this competition is a marathon. But of course we are happy."

Silva stressed the importance of putting together a longer winning run to take Fulham clear of the Championship's chasing back.

We have to keep going. We know that we will not win all the matches, but I don't want to see backwards steps again like we had, because that winning mentality and consistency is everything that we're trying to achieve. Tonight we showed that. I told our players during half-time that okay we scored two goals and started the game really well, we were efficient really as we had two chances and scored two goals, but I told our players that we have to keep that winning mentality, so I'm really pleased with the way we won the game."

Wilson delighted to be back amongst the goals

Harry Wilson hailed a flawless Fulham performance after the Whites scored seven at Blackburn tonight – and he was delighted to get back amongst the goals.

The Welsh winger's second half double capped an outstanding individual display of ceaseless running that posed Rovers all sorts of problems. Defender Jan-Paul van Hecke was dismissed for a horrid head-high challenge on the former Liverpool wide man, but luckily he suffered no ill effects from what looked a horrendous tackle.

Wilson told FFCTV after the final whistle of how much he enjoyed an excellent evening:

"Fantastic from start to finish. As a team, I thought we were fantastic. The early goal from Keba set us on our way, but I think how we played throughout the game, I felt we deserved. I thought there were going to be goals. I know when they go a man down it was difficult for them. We were just at each other to make sure we kept moving the ball about and the spaces will appear – and when they do, we've got to make sure that exploit them and take our chances and we done that.

He was particularly pleased to move to five goals for the season after eight matches without finding the net.

"I've been happy with my performances and the team's been in a good spell which is obviously the main thing, but personally I wanted to make sure that I started to get back on the scoresheet. I was happy to get my two; disappointed I wasn't able to complete my hat-trick, but to see Keba get two and Rodrigo come on and get two as well was fantastic."

Wilson wants Fulham to keep the winning run going at Peterborough on Saturday.

"To come here on a cold Wednesday night, it could have easily been a banana skin for us to slip up. But to come here and have such a convincing win, I think it shows what a good spell we're in at the minute. We've got to make sure that we do the same on Saturday and then we go into the international break and the players go away. The ones that who don't make sure we train hard to make sure we're ready to go again."

Transfer News: Real Madrid handed boost in Fabio Carvalho pursuit

Real Madrid have been handed a major boost in pursuit of Fabio Carvalho, with the 19-year-old attacking sensation rejecting a new deal with Fulham.

According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Fabio Carvalho has turned down the chance to sign a bumper new contract with Fulham. Such a development has handed a major boost to Real Madrid, who are among the clubs keen on signing the 19-year-old attacking sensation.

Fabio Carvalho has been with Fulham since 2014, having joined the London club's academy from Balham in 2014. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds, making his first-team debut last term before becoming a regular for the Cottagers.

The 19-year-old has made a solid start to the 2021/22 season, managing three goals and an assist in seven appearances in the Championship. However, Fulham are in a precarious position over his long-term future, with the player in the final year of his contract with the club. Such a situation has alerted Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are constantly on the lookout for the best up and coming prospects across Europe and beyond. Such an outlook has helped them discover players like Federico Valverde, Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes, who are regulars in the first-team setup at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Most recently, Real Madrid have been linked with Benjamin Sesko, Karim Adeyemi and Roko Simic. And Fabio Carvalho is a viable target for Los Blancos, with his versatility further making the 19-year-old attacking sensation an appealing prospect.

The Merengues have now been handed a major boost in pursuit of Carvalho, who has rejected a contract offer by Fulham, who were willing to offer him a bumper new deal. However, Real Madrid are not the only club in pursuit of Carvalho, who has been linked with clubs like Southampton, West Ham United and Leeds United.

The fact that the 19-year-old looks set to become a free agent should make him a highly sought-after player next summer. With a gamut of clubs set to pursue him, it will be interesting to see where Carvalho chooses to head next if he decides to run down his deal with Fulham, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.

'Difficult to refuse': £5m man explains why he rejected Fulham transfer

Frederic Guilbert has admitted he turned down a move to Fulham before leaving Aston Villa and the Premier League for a loan spell in France, speaking to Alsa Sports.

While no-one could question Guilbert's attitude – attack-minded and aggressive he appeared to have the makings of a Villa cult hero – the 26-year-old couldn't match Matty Cash as far as raw ability was concerned.

And, after losing his place to the soon-to-be Poland international Cash in Dean Smith's pecking order, Guilbert had little interest in sticking around and wasting away on the sidelines.

The former France U21 international returned to Strasbourg for a second spell at the Alsace club on transfer deadline day – but only after Fulham came knocking.

Why did Aston Villa ace Frederic Guilbert turn down Fulham?

"(The transfer window) was long – very long! I had (offers from) Lille and Fulham as well," explains Guilbert, who set Aston Villa back about £5 million when he joined from Caen two years ago.

"Just before signing in Alsace, Fulham presented an offer that was difficult to refuse.

"I made the choice to accept Strasbourg (but), on my way to Strasbourg, Fulham gave me a new offer, even bigger.

"But, in my head, I was already at Strasbourg and I decided to maintain this course."

Sitting second in the Championship and four points clear of third-place West Brom, a Fulham side inspired by the relentless goalscoring of Aleksandar Mitrovic look well placed to secure a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Not that Guilbert will wish he could turn the clock back.

The rampaging right-back is one of the first names on the team sheet these days for a Strasbourg side flying high in Ligue 1 and in touching distance of the Champions League places.

Free-scoring Fulham won't get an easy ride from Peterborough United at the Weston Homes Stadium
Peterborough United have warned free-scoring Fulham not to expect an easy ride when they visit the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday (November 6).

The Cottagers are long odds on favourites to maintain their promotion push at the expense of Darren Ferguson's side.

There are already 20 points and 18 places between the teams after Fulham's 7-0 hammering of Blackburn last night (November 3). Fulham have scored 43 goals in 16 games, a remarkable 16 more than any other Championship team!

But Posh have great belief at home, even if a tally of 12 points from eight games is only the 15th best record in the division. Posh drew 1-1 with Huddersfield at London Road on Tuesday.

"We never feel like we are going to be beaten at home," Posh forward Sammie Szmodics said. "There is a huge difference between us playing at home and playing away.

"We have bite at home. We know we are not going to lose.

"We showed it again against Huddersfield. We conceded a sloppy goal from a set-piece, but we came back to pick up what could be a vaulable point. Every point is massive in the Championship. It's another one on the board and sometimes you just have to grind out results in this league.

"It's set us for a big game on Saturday and then we can start sorting out the away form. We play with a bit more freedom at home and that shouldn't be the case. We need to take the mentality we show at home in to the games when we travel."

Szmodics is expected to retain his place in the starting line-up for the Fulham game regardless of whether or not manager Darren Ferguson starts Jonson Clarke-Harris after his point-saving goal against Huddersfield.

Szmodics has scored just twice in nine Championship starts this season. He would have several assists to his name with better finishing from teammates.

He's still contributing though. He was named man-of-the-match by the sponsors at the Huddersfield match.

"That must have been because I ran around a lot," Szmodics added. "Jonno should have been man-of-the-match for the impact he made when he came on. My workrate is always good, but that should be a given for any player.

"I'm not a number nine and nor is Siriki Dembele, but we'll try and do a job there for the team if asked. Jonno is the number nine. He wins headers. He helps us get up the pitch and he can cause havoc."
