Emery eyes Mitrovic move

Reports from Spain suggest Unai Emery is interested in signing Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic for Villarreal.

The Serbian striker scored his 21st goal of the Championship season in Saturday's 4-1 thrashing of Barnsley on Saturday and headed the winner for Serbia as they qualified for the World Cup finals at the expense of Portugal last weekend. The 27 year-old has scored 74 goals in 149 appearances for the Whites and put pen to paper on a new five year contract in August.

Emery is eager to add to Villarreal's attacking arsenal in January with his side sitting in twelfth in La Liga having scored just fifteen goals in thirteen games. But Fulham, who turned down several offers for Mitrovic in the summer, would fiercely resist any approach for their in-form striker and Fichajes.net's suggestion that he would be available for just €16m seems particularly fanciful.

Villarreal eyeing €16m January move for Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is being linked with a €16million move to Unai Emery's Villarreal.

Mitrovic, 27, has been in scintillating form this season. The Serb has scored 21 goals for Fulham this season and a handful for Serbia who qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Now though, reports coming out of Spain have made the bold suggestion that Villarreal are looking into a potential January move for the striker, with a €16million being talked up.

Villarreal signed one of last season's top performers in the Championship, Arnaut Danjuma. Since, the Dutchman has been a hit in Spain, scoring five goals in 11 La Liga outings and finding himself a fresh target of Liverpool's.

With that, Emery seems to be finding a potential replacement for Danjuma just half-a-season into his Villarreal stint and he's again looking at the Championship.

Fulham moved to the top of the Championship table over the weekend. They won 4-1 against Barnsley whilst Bournemouth lost to Derby County, taking Fulham top with 41 points.

Mitrovic was of course on hand to score in the 4-1 win against Barnsley – an eighth consecutive game for him in which he's scored for club and country, with 12 goals in those eight fixtures.

It's taken his Championship tally to 21. He's comfortably the top scorer in the second tier and since Marco Silva's summer arrival at Craven Cottage, Mitrovic has taken his game to the next level.

But whether he'll be trying to break the Premier League again next season, or potentially another one of Europe's top divisions remains to be seen.

Up next for Fulham is a home game v Derby County on Wednesday evening.

Fulham player is a 'colossus' – A 'wall' to protect, and transfer talks won't be far away

Fulham's André Frank Zambo Anguissa has been an excellent loan signing for Napoli this season, with the Italian media often falling over themselves to praise the midfielder.

Such was his early good impression, there were claims Napoli would look to move quickly to make his loan move permanent, so that they avoided competition from elsewhere.

That was quickly shot down, and since there's even been suggestions the Serie A club will try to negotiate the around €15m it's thought they need to pay Fulham to make a deal happen.

That seems on the cheeky side, but then that's Napoli and Aurelio De Laurentiis all over.

Lorenzo Insigne is the club captain and has a contract expiring in the summer, and his agent recently revealed Napoli have only offered around half the salary he's on at the moment, just to give a picture of the drama around the club.

Back to the Fulham player, Sunday's Gazzetta dello Sport called him a 'colossus' ahead of the match against Inter Milan. A 'wall' ahead of the Napoli defence, he's adding aspects all the time which impress the Italian media.

Inter won the match 3-2, yet Anguissa was still rated as having had a good performance, with Gazzetta giving him 6.5/10, a good mark for them and none of his teammates got higher.

Transfer talks will inevitably be on the way, and Fulham need to prepare themselves for all the fun and games De Laurentiis will bring.

Wayne Rooney shares update on Sam Baldock and Lee Buchanan's situation at Derby

Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has revealed that Sam Baldock suffered a hamstring injury during yesterday's clash with AFC Bournemouth and thus is a doubt for the club's meeting with Fulham on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Lee Buchanan will need to be assessed ahead of the Rams' visit to Craven Cottage after picking up a knock in the closing stages of Sunday's showdown.

Derby produced a spirited display at Pride Park as they sealed a 3-2 victory over AFC Bournemouth who missed out on the chance to reclaim top-spot in the Championship.

Jason Knight opened the scoring for the Rams before Jaidon Anthony levelled proceedings in the 19th minute.

Bournemouth took the lead just before half-time as Dominic Solanke netted his 15th goal of the season.

Undeterred by this setback, Derby equalised in the 62nd minute as Tom Lawrence fired a fantastic effort past Cherries goalkeeper Mark Travers.

Lawrence then scored what turned out to be the winning goal for the Rams as he converted his spot-kick after Graeme Shinnie was brought down in the penalty area by Jack Stacey.

Ahead of his side's meeting with league leaders Fulham on Wednesday, Rooney has provided an injury update on Baldock and Buchanan.

Speaking to the Derby Telegraph about the duo, the Rams boss said: "Sam felt his hamstring, so we will have to wait a few days to see how that is.

"With Lee, I don't know whether it is his knee or his ankle, it looked like a block tackle.

"Hopefully it is not too serious."

The Verdict

If Baldock and Buchanan are unable to feature for Derby in their upcoming meeting with Fulham, it will be intriguing to see who Rooney opts to draft in as replacements for this particular duo.

Colin Kazim-Richards will be pushing for a start after being utilised as a substitute in Sunday's clash with Bournemouth whilst Jack Stretton could potentially be included in the Rams' match-day squad.

Meanwhile, Craig Forsyth could be given the opportunity to impress at full-back if Buchanan is not fit enough to play on Wednesday.

Having made 238 appearances at this level during his career, Forsyth knows exactly what it takes to compete in the Championship and thus will be confident in his ability to deliver the goods against a Fulham side who are currently thriving under the guidance of Marco Silva.

Talking Points: Barnsley

Marco the perfectionist

Whilst happy to take three points, the fact that Marco Silva was upset with the goal conceded is a sign of the high standards that he holds himself and his team to. Fulham had defended well from the front throughout, but a momentary lapse allowed Barnsley to get in behind and grab a consolation. It was our first goal conceded since mid-October, and Silva wants his side to learn from the mistake. "Unfortunately we conceded a goal in a way I didn't like at all," he told FFCtv. "They know it, and it's something for us to work on on the pitch, and off the pitch as well, because sometimes it can be something mental that we need to work on. The only way to improve is to keep working hard."

Hec's fine margins

The all-important breakthrough goal almost came from an unlikely source on Saturday. Michael Hector has never scored for Fulham, but was millimetres from opening his account, and in some style, too. Following a free-kick, the ball dropped to him 18 yards out, and the big centre-back didn't hesitate to hit it first time. Head over the ball, outside of the right boot, his shot was clean as you like, but hit the inside of the far post and rolled pretty much across the goalline and away to a Barnsley defender.

Front four on fire

The 4-2-3-1 formation has been sensational for Fulham this season, and there's no better vindication than seeing all four of our most forward players finding the back of the net. No surprises that striker Aleksandar Mitrović got the ball rolling, and the scoreline was doubled before the break courtesy of Fabio Carvalho who was starting in the number 10 role for the first time since August. It was the wingers' turn to shine after the restart, with Harry Wilson finding Neeskens Kebano for number three, before getting on the scoresheet himself.

Mesmerising Mika

Jean Michaël Seri had been on the pitch for less than 90 seconds when he created our fourth goal of the afternoon. After collecting the ball 30 yards out, he looked up and spotted the run of Wilson into the box, and expertly picked him out with the most nonchalant of balls, coolly scooping it into his path with an outside of the boot pass of technical magnificence.

Best run in 21 years

We all know how gruelling and relentless the Championship is. Stringing back-to-back victories together is tough enough, so to win seven on the trot is some achievement indeed. The last time we managed such a feat was at the start of Jean Tigana's reign when we won our opening 11 matches of the campaign. There are definitely similarities in terms of the fluid, attacking style of play, so let's hope there's also a similar outcome at the end of the season!

Club look to snatch Fulham player – Feel he'll be snubbed if PL promotion happens

Aleksandar Mitrovic is finding the back of the net for Fulham on a regular basis.

So far this season he's scored 21 Championship goals in 18 appearances in the competition, adding five assists along the way. He's a huge reason why the Cottagers currently find themselves top of the table, and look very well placed for promotion to the Premier League.

It's a big change to last season, as Mitrovic was in and out of the side, and scored just three Premier League goals as Fulham were relegated from the top flight.

The 27-year-old is also a renewed hero for his country, helping send Serbia to the Qatar World Cup during the current international break, and forcing Portugal to settle for the play-offs.

All of this has apparently caught transfer attention.

Spain's Fichajes say Villarreal have identified the striker as a player they wouldn't mind signing, giving their success with recent recruits from English football. It's explained Mitorvic has been 'undervalued his entire career', and something 'curious' happens when he plays in the Premier League.

According to the report, he doesn't get the faith required from managers, and is therefore unable to have a big enough impact.

Fichajes say it'd only cost €16m to sign him, yet this seems to be a figure simply lifted from his valuation on Transfermarkt.

One to keep an eye on, but absolutely nothing more at this stage.

Games for mid-week 23/10
Another home game under the lights, this time against Derby County
Gaining the win over Barnsley put us top of the league, I must admit to thinking it would only be for 24 hours or so as Bournemouth played on Sunday however, our next opponents had different ideas beating them 3-2, for once Derby did us a favour?
Once again we spread the goals amongst the team, Mitro, as Gentleman Jim said "to be fair he hasn't scored for 20 minutes", Carvalho, Kebano, most improved player?, and if only for Seri's exceptional pass for Wilson's goal, for me, was the pick of the bunch.
After 7 wins in a row there's a lot of talk over on the forum about how this team compares to Jean Tigana's 2000-01 promotion winning season, its very difficult to pick who's better however after last season, the improvement in the current squad is quite remarkable.

After another lot of points deductions, I'm not sure how its taken so long for the EFL to arrive at their decision however, Derby will be full of confidence after their win against Bournemouth. As our recent record against Derby is another "close affair" with 4 wins, 5 losses and 6 draws, "historically" this should be a close game although our respective league positions suggest otherwise? but we all know that there are no easy games in the Championship!

my team would be...

Fulham set for Aleksandr Mitrovic conundrum in January as suitors eye up goal machine

The Cottagers' Serbian striker is on course to smash the Championship goal record to smithereens after notching again last weekend to take his tally to 21 goals in 18 games

There is probably not a striker on the planet in as rich a vein of form as Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Fulham forward scored on Saturday in his team's 4-1 thumping of Barnsley as they went to the top of the Championship table.

Remarkably that was the Serbian's 21st league goal of the campaign.

He's now scored in their last seven outings and it seems only a matter of when, not if, he breaks the second tier's goal record since its re-branding in 2004-05.

Brentford's Ivan Toney holds that particular record after notching 31 times last season. But Mitrovic is on course to overtake that by early next year if he continues in the same run of form.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has 21 goals already for Fulham this season

Reports earlier this month suggested that the 27-year-old penned a new five-year deal with Fulham that sees him rake in £100,000 per week - the highest salary in Championship history.

But with the January transfer window fast approaching there could be plenty of interest in him.

Fresh reports coming out of Spain suggest that Unai Emery's Villarreal are looking into a potential move for the striker.

A fee of €16million is being mooted although it is unclear whether Fulham would even entertain the possibility of selling their star asset, particularly midway through a campaign where they are looking a good bet for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Villarreal's interest may raise some eyebrows but they have previous for signing players from England's second tier.

Last summer they forked out £21million for Bournemouth's Arnaut Danjuma and the Dutchman has been a revelation in La Liga.

He has already scored seven times and caught the eye in the Champions League against Manchester United.

Whether the interest in Mitrovic manifests itself into a concrete bid remains to be seen.

Fulham chief Marco Silva will surely be desperate to hang on to his star striker

Speaking about his star striker after the win over Barnsley, Fulham boss Marco Silva praised his unselfishness when despite being through on goal late on he opted instead to set up a teammate.

Silva said: "I told the players in the dressing room, that shows his (MItrovic's) commitment to the club, his team-mates, to me, to the staff and with our target.

"I think it was 4-1 and he did what he should do, and he did it.

"The players know we want to share the goals but of course if you have a player like Mitro normally the striker is the one who scores."

Fulham's win, combined with Bournemouth's shock defeat at bottom side Derby on Sunday, means the Cottagers are a point clear at the top.

Wednesday night sees them host Wayne Rooney's side as they look for an eighth consecutive win.

'Crazy' - Cyrus Christie's return to Nottingham Forest discussed amid Djed Spence recall fears

The Fulham defender spent the season on loan at the City Ground last season and his future at Craven Cottage appears uncertain

Nottingham Forest fans have been debating whether the Reds should make a move for Cyrus Christie in January if Djed Spence is recalled by Middlesbrough.

Spence is currently on loan at the City Ground and has played a key role under head coach Steve Cooper for whom he has produced a series of impressive performances.

Ex-Boro boss Neil Warnock sanctioned Spence's departure to Forest in the transfer window, but he has now left the club to be replaced by ex-Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder.

Since Wilder's arrival, Boro fans have been debating as to whether Spence will be recalled by Boro in January.

Forest fan "Copo" posed a question on Twitter as to whether the Reds should look at bringing Christie back to the club if Spence does leave.

And Reds fans have been having their say...

Tuppa: "I think we will go back in for Reggie Cannon if he goes mate, think he was the original target before Spence, its nailed on he will go, can't see us having the money to buy him, Boro will want crazy monies."

Carl Wilkinson: "Would give Drager or Fin Back a go."

Jamie Allan: "Still got Osei-Tutu but it's a risk given his injury record."

Michaela: "Why not."

Deepak Sohal: "No. I don't think he's played for Fulham. He'd be out of shape - like he was with us and took him a while to get back up to speed."

Tim Shipman : "I'd prefer Djed."

Christie has made just one appearance for Fulham this season which came in an EFL Cup tie.

But he made 44 appearances last term for Forest and was in good form towards the end of the season.

There was talk of him returning to the club in the summer after Sky reported the club were interested in bringing him back but a move never materialised.

Wilson wants to keep winning run going

In-form winger Harry Wilson has urged his Fulham team-mates to keep their winning run going when his former club Derby County come to Craven Cottage on Wednesday night.

Marco Silva's side have won seven league matches in a row after beating Barnsley 4-1 on Saturday and Wilson told FFCTV this afternoon that maintaining that fine form after the international break was a key focus for the players:

"It was great. Obviously the international break, I think last time round we slipped up the result after so we were desperate this time round to not let them happen again. We knew we were in fantastic form before the break. We were determined to continue that. To get back on Saturday, put in a good performance and get a good win, we're obviously all delighted with that."

Wilson scored his sixth goal of an impressive season at Craven Cottage and believes his form has improved in the last few matches.

"I think my numbers have picked up in the last couple of games, which has obviously been great for me. I am hard on myself. I just want to make sure that I'm improving my numbers each game. I know with the quality that people have got in this team – especially Mika – if I make them runs nine times out of ten, I'm going to be found. The pass was perfect and I was happy to finish it off."

The winger, who laid on a goal for Neeskens Kebano, almost created another for Kenny Tete after a spellbinding piece of skill along the byline.

"I think to play a one-two with Hec and I thought he was going to turn and I half stopped. As the ball ran free, I managed to get there and I felt that was the only way I was going to keep it in. To do a little skill and then to pick Kenny out, unfortunately he wasn't able to finish it but we know if we keep creating chances in this team the players in the box are going to finish them off."

Wilson has fond memories of a season spent on loan at Pride Park earlier in his career – when his outstanding individual displays helped Derby reach the play-off final – and won't be taking Wayne Rooney's side lightly on Wednesday, despite the fact that the Rams sit bottom of the table after two points deductions for financial irregularities.

"I loved my time there from start to finish. I finished on a bit of sour note losing the play-off final but my experiences there, I've got nothing but fond memories. The fans, the way they treated me, the support they gave me was unbelievable and the team we had. I made friends for life and people that I still keep in contact with now. I've got nothing but happy memories from that place.

To see a club that you feel so strongly for being in the situation they're in, is obviously sad. I watched their game yesterday, they've still got a fantastic team and more than capable of picking up another points. It is going to be a very, very difficult task for them to stay up but I think the players and the manager have got to stay positive and show the fans that they are fighting for the badge. Who knows what will happen come the end of the season?

He knows that Derby will be desperate to prove a point to the rest of the division and follow up Sunday's sensational win over Bournemouth with another big scalp.

"Definitely. They've got nothing to lose. No one's backing them to stay up and they'll want to prove everything wrong. It's up to us to keep our good run going and a win on Wednesday sets us up nicely for the weekend."

Derby County dealt fresh injury concerns ahead of Fulham clash

Derby County travel to league leaders Fulham on Wednesday evening.

Derby County provided arguably the shock of the weekend in the Championship, beating Bournemouth 3-2 at Pride Park.

And they'll need another monumental effort against Fulham on Wednesday night. Wayne Rooney's side head down to Craven Cottage to face a Fulham side who've scored 48 goals in the Championship this season, winning their last seven league fixtures.

But the Rams have been dealt some fresh injury concerns ahead of the Fulham game – both Sam Baldock and Lee Buchanan are doubtful after both picked up knocks in the win over Bournemouth.

Rooney told Derbyshire Live that Baldock felt an issue with his hamstring yesterday whilst he's unsure whether Buchanan has sustained an ankle or knee injury just yet.

How will that alter Rooney's starting XI v Fulham?

On Sunday, Colin Kazim-Richards came on for Baldock and Craig Forsyth for Buchanan. Expect these two to make the starting XI should both Baldock and Buchanan be absent for the trip to Fulham.

Kazim-Richards is a favourite among Derby supporters but is yet to score upon his return from injury this season – he scored eight goals in the Championship last season.

Forsyth meanwhile is a divisive player among fans. The Scot joined the club during the 2012/13 season and has racked up well over 20 league appearances for the Rams, with 10 in this campaign.

But he often leaves room for criticism in his performances.

Either way, Derby face another huge test on Wednesday night – a win would bring them up to +3 points and would give them another huge confidence boost in their bid for survival this season.

The game kicks off at 7:45pm on Wednesday evening.

Lol. Selling mitro for €16m "a price that seems lifted from transfermarkt".. what a joke.

It would be absolute madness, not forgetting he's signed a new 5 year deal, is in the form of his life, just got his national team to the world Cup, says he and his wife and son love fulham and are settled for him to go for less than we paid for him.

What a joker of a journalist. We've not sold players cheaply under the Khan's and I'd be surprised if we sold our talisman at all let alone for a measly 16m€.. he's guaranteed promotion which must make the money way more.

Professions now are such meaningless things these days.

Harry Wilson comments on Derby County administration and 'unbelievable' fans

The former Derby loanee will face the Rams when they take on Fulham in the midweek Championship clash.

Former Derby County loanee Harry Wilson has opened up about his 'fond memories' of his time at the club and has given his thoughts on the current situation they find themselves in.

Wilson spent the 2018/19 season at Pride Park, helping Frank Lampard's side to reach the play-off final.

He returned to parent club Liverpool the following summer and spent loan spells at Bournemouth and Cardiff City before completing a permanent move to Fulham in the summer just gone.

The 24-year-old will face his former team in Wednesday night's Championship clash.

Ahead of that game, Wilson has opened up about his time at Pride Park.

"I loved my time there from start to finish. I finished on a bit of a sour note losing the play-off final but my experiences there, I've got nothing but fond memories," he told FFCTV .

"The fans, the way they treated me, the support they gave me was unbelievable and the team we had. I made friends for life and people that I still keep in contact with now. I've got nothing but happy memories from that place."

Derby sit bottom of the table, having seen a further points deduction from the EFL, but Wilson believes that a remarkable escape from relegation from Rooney's men could be possible.

"To see a club that you feel so strongly for being in the situation they're in, is obviously sad. I watched their game yesterday, they've still got a fantastic team and more than capable of picking up another points," he added.

"It is going to be a very, very difficult task for them to stay up but I think the players and the manager have got to stay positive and show the fans that they are fighting for the badge. Who knows what we will happen come the end of the season?"

The former Derby loanee has also sent a warning to his Fulham teammates.

"They've got nothing to lose. No one's backing them to stay up and they'll want to prove everything wrong," he said.

"It's up to us to keep our good run going and a win on Wednesday sets us up nicely for the weekend."
