3 things we clearly learnt about Fulham after 1-1 draw v Preston North End

Fulham travelled up north for the lunchtime kick-off against Preston North End on Saturday looking to right the wrongs of midweek, where they dropped points to Derby County, who sit bottom of the Championship.

In the end though Cottagers fans were left feeling let down at their team's performance as they stumbled to a 1-1 draw at Deepdale.

After seven wins in a row and 25 goals scored it's now two sharing of the spoils in succession for Marco Silva's side and it was an afternoon where Fulham really failed to get anything going at all.

Let's look at THREE things we learnt about the Championship table-toppers following yesterday afternoon's action.

Mitro cannot always be relied upon
To the surprise of everyone on Wednesday, Aleksandar Mitrovic was missing from Fulham's line-up to face Derby County, and it was no shock that they didn't hit the back of the net at Craven Cottage that night.

21 goals in 18 matches suggests that the Serb is quite integral to Silva's playing style, but you wouldn't have thought it yesterday afternoon.

Coming up against a defender in Liam Lindsay as well that PNE fans haven't been convinced by since he signed for the club meant that it could have been a field day for Mitro, but it turned out that the Scot dealt with him rather easily.

He had just one shot in the whole match and generally just looked unfit – he could have been struggling with an illness still which kept him out in midweek but it was definitely one to forget.

Defence is an issue
Fulham's defence in their seven-game winning run was solid enough and they kept a clean sheet against Derby, but if it wasn't for North End's lack of cutting edge then it could have been a whole lot worse than one goal conceded.

Time and time again both Tosin Adarabioyo and Tim Ream – mainly the latter – were left for dead by the pace of Emil Riis who was getting the better of the opposition and the Dane could have feasibly had a hat-trick on another day.

Antonee Robinson was left exposed on a number of occasions as well by Tom Barkhuizen and the American international could have been sent off for what appeared to be a scissor tackle on the wing-back in the second half.

Silva will need to tighten that back-line up ahead of next week's encounter with Bournemouth which is set to be a huge one.

May not be as dominant as people think
After the winning run they've been on, many Fulham fans and also neutrals believe that the Cottagers will simply walk the league now

However the last two matches and the North End encounter especially will leave people thinking that the Londoners can be got at – however we already knew that as they've lost three times this season already.

It will give opposition teams confidence though that if PNE can create as many chances as they did then so can they, and despite also drawing after going down to 10 men against Coventry City, Bournemouth will probably be confident of securing a result next weekend in a top of the table clash.

Fulham preparing '£18m move for Fulgini'

Fulham are readying a massive £18m move for Angers attacking midfielder Angelo Fulgini, according to today's Sun.

The Whites are already eyeing up possible reinforcements ahead of a return to the Premier League and Marco Silva is keen to add to his options in midfield, with concerns over the long-term fitness of captain Tom Cairney and teenage talent Fabio Carvalho having six months to run on his current contract. Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa, currently starring on loan at Napoli, is set to leave Craven Cottage permanently in the summer – and Fulgini has quickly become one of the club's top targets.

The former French under-21 international has been one of Angers' key players as the Black and Whites have surged to sixth in the Ligue 1 table, just two points off an unlikely Champions' League spot. He came through the Valenciennes youth academy before joining Angers in 2017 and has scored 21 goals in 138 games for Le SCO, adding fifteen assists. Fulgini, born in the Ivory Coast, has scored twice in fourteen games – including a stunner against PSG – this term.

Angers are willing to sell their playmaker should a suitor meet their £18m asking price – and sent club directors to England last month to discuss a possible transfer. The player, who was close to joining Feyenoord over the summer, is keen to play in England and Fulham might prove an attractive option as Silva's side sit top of the Championship, with the gap widening to third-placed West Brom.

Fulham stepping up pursuit of 25-year-old amid Fabio Carvalho speculation

Fulham's pursuit of Angers attacking midfielder Angelo Fulgini has increased with the Cottagers set to make a bumper bid for the 25-year-old, according to The Sun.

The Championship side were said to be interested in Fulgini earlier this month but as we get closer to the January transfer window the more the west London side are watching.

The Ivory Coast-born Frenchman scored seven goals in Ligue 1 last season for Angers and has netted twice in 14 appearances in the current campaign whilst also assisting two strikes.

And Marco Silva's side could even meet the £18 million asking price with Fulgini said to be desperate to play in England, having been linked with a Premier League move in October.

A swoop for Fulgini could mean a mid-season departure for teenager Fabio Carvalho, who has turned down multiple contract offers to remain at Craven Cottage beyond this season and has been linked with the likes of Liverpool.

Football League World's sources believe that a final offer has been made to Carvalho in an attempt to keep him around but in the event of that not being possible, Fulgini could arrive as his replacement.

The Verdict

If Carvalho does end up departing the Cottagers this January then a player of Fulgini's calibre will definitely be needed for the second half of the season.

Even though just two goals this season on the face of it doesn't appear to be a great record, the 25-year-old is playing on a regular basis in a top league.

£18 million does seem steep though on the face of it but it could be a price willing to pay, especially when the club believe they'll be getting a similar fee for Andre Franck Zambo Anguissa at the end of the season.

One thing you can't say Silva's side are lacking is a cutting edge, but losing Carvalho would definitely weaken them – on the face of it though adding Fulgini would be a boost although he is unproven in the English leagues.

Parker admits it will be 'difficult' to lift Cherries ahead of Fulham showdown

CHERRIES boss Scott Parker admitted it would be "difficult" to lift his players after their dramatic 2-2 draw against Coventry - with rivals Fulham just around the corner.

The Dorset club saw a two-goal lead wiped out by two late Sky Blues strikes on Saturday, meaning they missed the chance to leapfrog Fulham, who themselves could only draw at Preston.

The sides face off at Craven Cottage on Friday, in a crucial encounter between the two title chasers.

Asked on Saturday about lifting his players ahead of the clash with Marco Silva's men, Parker said: "It will be difficult, of course it will. There's no denying at this present moment in time, we're hurting.

"There's not really much I can say to the team other than we go back, relax and it will be on everyone's mind tonight (Saturday) and tomorrow.

"We live in a world in football where you can't dwell too much, because before you know it we have another big game on Friday. So we regroup and go again."

Cherries have picked up just two points from their past three league encounters.

Fulham 'to move for Angers forward Angelo Fulgini'

Fulham have reportedly identified Angers playmaker Angelo Fulgini as a potential January transfer target.

The Cottagers currently sit at the top of the Championship standings, scoring 49 goals from 20 matches and having established a nine-point lead over third position.

However, Marco Silva will likely be given the green light to make changes to his squad at the midway point of the campaign.

According to The Sun, the West Londoners are contemplating whether to make an approach for versatile attacker Fulgini.

The 25-year-old has been a regular in Ligue 1 this season, contributing two goals and two assists during his 14 appearances in France's top flight.

While Fulgini has a contract at the Raymond Kopa Stadium until 2023, sixth-placed Angers will allegedly consider a sale for the right price.

What nonsense, if you can't be up for a top of the table clash then stop playing.  Or is this already his pass the blame to the players if they lose.
Watching the ups and downs since 1958, wouldn't have it any other way, what a roller coaster of a club.

filham

The Bournmouth players will fully motivate themselves for the top of the table clash at the Cottage, Parker just has to concentrate on tactics and what to wear for parking the bus.

Bill2

Really fed up with the reaction to Robinson's challenge last Saturday. It was not a scissor tackle, nor was he off the ground as that useless manager Neil said, he was on the floor tackling at speed, which happens all the time during a football match. His leading foot completely missed the PNE man, so not the leg breaker which has been said by pundits. He caught Barkhuizen with his trailing which was bent so Robinson's thigh caught him on the calf and as it was at speed knocked him over. In the vast majority of occasions this tackle would have been at worst a dusting down and play on, on this occasion it did not but I bet he is playing next week as there has been no mention by the media of any serious long term injury.

The article by Football League World is is their usual load of rubbish. Not a single mention of the Norovirus bug that ripped through our squad during the last 2 matches.
