Reading FC boss Veljko Paunovic says he and his team have been "thrown under the bus"

Reading FC manager Veljko Paunovic remained in a defiant mood as he once again faced questions about his job security following a second embarrassing defeat in four days.

On Saturday his Royals side was dumped out of the FA Cup by sixth-tier minnows Kidderminster Harriers before being thrashed 7-0 by Fulham on Tuesday night.

The evening started badly with Josh Laurent gifting Harry Wilson the opener after 13 minutes before an Aleksandar Mitrovic penalty made it 2-0 at half-time.

But after the break Reading fully capitulated, conceding five times in the final half an hour.

Asked whether he would still be in the job for Reading's next game Paunovic responded:

"That's a very cynical question. It's not what I think about that. I think about the team and group.

"Everybody is given a very difficult task. We are now blamed for something we haven't done and we are here coming to help and give people our best.

"Now we are thrown under the bus. It's not an easy task but we are going to keep going. I believe in the group and saw how difficult it was for them."

Naturally, supporters were left questioning the team's commitment but Paunovic insists that his players didn't give up at any point in the crushing defeat.

"Some people may think differently but I saw they gave it their all," he continued. "The only issue with that is you have to give that in a frame of the team and not on your own.

"It's a good intention but it wasn't done in the right way. We wanted to fight back and we saw a lot of refusal in our players.

"We wanted to go forward and get on the ball but it was individual actions. It has to come as a group and we didn't regroup well."

Reading 0-7 Fulham: Match Report

Marco recaps Reading's record home defeat in the Football League.

The pressure was high before kick-off. On manager Veljko Paunovic, the team and every single player. No doubt that this was a massive game for Reading Football Club. A very decisive one for the course of the season. A strong and positive response was needed after the shocking cup defeat against Kidderminster.

During the week Pauno expressed in his usual passionate style that he was full of belief to get back to winning ways. The question was only how much time he would get. Many expected that the result against promotion contenders Fulham might decide his future.

Once again, he faced a selection dilemma. The list of non-available players was as long as ever (Michael Morrison, Tom McIntyre, Liam Moore, Andy Yiadom, Baba Rahman, Alen Halilovic, Ovie Ejaria, Felipe Araruna, Yakou Meite, Lucas Joao).

As a result, Dejan Tetek started as right-back and Ethan Bristow occupied the position on the opposite side. In front of the midfield duo of Josh Laurent and Danny Drinkwater, Junior Hoilett played on the right, Tom Dele-Bashiru on the left and John Swift in his usual playmaker role behind lone strike Andy Carroll. Only five players were on the bench.

Clearly, the last things Pauno and his team needed were further injuries... A brave wish that lasted exactly five minutes. Scott Dann, one of the few experienced players, had to come off with muscular problems. Mamadi Camara came on, Josh Laurent moved into the defence, with TDB partnering Danny Drinkwater in the middle. Hoilett switched to the left as Camara started at right-wing.

Surely the start couldn't get any worse? How wrong one could be! Without real pressure, new central defender Laurent played a shocking no-look back pass to Luke Southwood. At least that's what he intended. Who Laurent hadn't seen was Fulham's Harry Wilson in the middle. From a short distance the visitors' number eight made no mistake. 1-0 to the Cottagers, 12 minutes played.

Game over already? At least you couldn't blame the Royals for a lack of passion and fighting spirit in the first half. Pauno's men showed a positive reaction, throwing their bodies into every tackle, trying to find their way back into the game. With every minute belief seemed to grow. The supporters played their part too and rewarded the young Reading team's performance by pushing the boys in blue and white on.

Exactly when the Royals had their best spell, the visitors nearly scored a second. 22 minutes were played when Bristow miscalculated a long pass and gave Wilson the chance to break through. His shot from close range went just wide. Four minutes later lively Mamadi Camara then had Reading's best opportunity: Junior Hoilett burst down the left and his cross seemed to be cleared easily by the Cottagers' defence, but Camara was quickest to react and had his beautiful back heel blocked away with an incredible save by Fulham keeper Rodak. That could have been the turning point. Soon afterwards Andy Carroll was unlucky to have two superb strikes (rightfully) ruled off for offside.

On the other end, Southwood made a brilliant safe in the 36th minute to deny Mitrovic his 23rd goal of the season from close range. Just when the last seconds of the first half were ticking away and you thought it wouldn't be the worst thing to go into the break trailing 1-0, to regroup and search the equaliser... Fulham scored again. Tom Holmes went into a 50-50 tackle, referee Andy Woolmer decided it was a penalty and Mitrovic stepped up leaving Southwood no chance. 2-0 Fulham at halftime.

What could be expected now of this Reading team in the second half? A humiliation by the visitors? A historical comeback? For the first minutes the Royals set deep, left Fulham all the possession and tried to wait for their own opportunities with quick counter-attacks. At least that seemed to be the game plan. After 52 minutes Pauno brought on Andy Rinomhota for Dejan Tetek. Definitely good to see him back on the pitch.

In general, it was a quiet start to the second half. But after only eight minutes the last bit of hope was already destroyed. Fulham showed all their quality with a perfect one-two on the left. In the middle Wilson was quickest to react and tapped in his second of the night.

Still, Pauno went all-in in the 63rd minute bringing on George Puscas for Danny Drinkwater. Against clearly superior visitors the Royals tried to avoid the feared humiliation. They were just not good enough. A powerful header by Mitrovic was deflected by Tete into the net. 4-0.

From that moment on Fulham rolled over a helpless home side. Clear goal opportunities nearly every minute. Two decent safes from Southwood were not enough to wake his team up. Neeskens Kebano slid in to convert Wilson's cross for the fifth and four minutes later a set-piece led to the next one. Without a defender near, Adarabioyo powered a header past Southwood who had no chance.

Unfortunately, it was still not the end. Even though the Cottagers slowed down the tempo in the last quarter they were able to score the seventh. Serbian international Aleksandar Mitrovic raised his goal tally to 24. Soon after it was thankfully full-time. A devastating second-half performance ended in a shocking home defeat. The Royals stay 21st, three points above the relegation zone, having played a game more than Peterborough in 22nd.

Unquestionably the low point of the season (until now at least). So, who's to blame? The boos at the final whistle indicated the main one is Veljko Paunovic. In football and in a situation like this the manager is always the first to go. I'm not saying that this would be a fault, but Pauno must be surely one of the unluckiest managers the Royals ever had. I really feel sorry for him. During his 17 months with the club, he was never even close to have the full squad available. He didn't have the possibility to bring in the players he needed, at the time he would have wanted...

Without judging what the club should do, one thing is 100% clear. Changes need to be made. We need to have a team on the pitch that is willing to give their all to avoid relegation for this club. We need a unit where everyone is fighting for the other. From now on we have 22 finals. Everyone has to understand how high the stakes are. No more excuses. The result on the pitch is the only thing that counts. Come you Rssssssss!

Fulham match incredible Liverpool record from nearly 130 years ago

Fulham have done something pretty incredible after thrashing Reading 7-0 away from home in the Championship last night.

Marco Silva's side were on fire to absolutely batter Reading, and it's the second time this season that they've won by seven goals away from home, having also won 7-0 away to Blackburn Rovers back in November.

As you might guess, it's not often you see a team score seven goals away from home, let alone twice in the same season!

Opta Joe confirm in the tweet below that this hardly ever happens, with Fulham matching Liverpool in achieving this feat, with the Reds last doing so back in the 1895/96 season...

To put that into context, Liverpool were only into the fourth season of their existence back then, and were playing in the Second Division.

The Reds, as they are now known, didn't even wear a red kit that year, just to give you an idea of what a different world we were living in the last time this happened.

Fair play to Fulham, this is one of our favourite stats of the season so far.

Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and West Brom potentially on red alert as transfer update emerges on Brentford star

Premier League side Brentford are willing to loan out 22-year-old forward Marcus Forss during the January transfer window after previous uncertainty, according to Sky Sports News (11/1; 4:36pm).

The young Finn has been the subject of widespread interest from the Championship in the last month, with the same outlet reporting that most second-tier sides would be willing to take the Bees' striker on a loan deal as they look to strengthen their respective causes for the second half of the season.

It had previously been uncertain as to whether he would be allowed to leave the Brentford Community Stadium during this window, with The Guardian's Will Unwin previously reporting that the top-tier outfit were seeking to keep him around Thomas Frank's first-team squad.

Nonetheless, Sky Sports now believe that he has been given the green light to leave the English capital – and is still likely to have no shortage of sides pursuing his signature.

Football League World understands Fulham, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion were all monitoring the availability of the 22-year-old last month ahead of this window.

However, the imminent arrival of Folarin Balogun at the Riverside may rule Boro out of this race having already recruited Aaron Connolly from Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this month.

It also remains to be seen whether Forest are still in the race to secure his signature after bolstering their frontline with their own loanee in Aston Villa's Keinan Davis, who impressed on his debut against Arsenal last weekend.

The Verdict:

At this stage, it doesn't look as though Boro or Forest will be the best destination for Forss – and with the forward options they have at their disposal – a move to Paul Heckingbottom's Blades may also not be the best career choice.

The South Yorkshire side could be looking to reduce their forward options during this month, potentially opening up a space for him to join, but they are likely to place their faith in Rhian Brewster considering the money they spent on him with Billy Sharp also looking healthier than ever.

It would also be a surprise to see him go to West Brom at this moment in time and he certainly wouldn't be a starter over Daryl Dike – but the possible departure of Jordan Hugill may provide him with a place on the bench – something he won't want as he seeks regular football.

It would be the same story for him at Fulham with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Rodrigo Muniz, so Stoke may be the best option for him at this stage if he can beat the competition to earn his place in the starting lineup.

Tyrese Campbell may be one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit and available – but there's certainly space alongside him if Michael O'Neill wants to play a 3-4-1-2 system throughout the remainder of the season and that's a spot Forss could claim.

Opinion: Why Marco Silva is right to make Fulham transfer call on 27-year-old

Fulham boss Marco Silva believes a loan deal for Terence Kongolo would be a 'very good solution' at this stage as he continues to gain his fitness, as he spoke candidly about the Dutchman to The Athletic's Peter Rutzler.

The 27-year-old has suffered a torrid time at Craven Cottage since his initial arrival back in January 2020, making just four senior appearances for the promotion chasers in total and failing to appear in a single matchday squad so far this season.

Spending the early stages of 2021/22 continuing his recovery from knee surgery, he has returned to training but has still been unable to force his way back into the first team in the English capital.

In fairness to the Netherlands international, he has faced fierce competition with the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Tim Ream, Alfie Mawson and Michael Hector all available at Marco Silva's disposal.

But with the talent he has, he would have been expecting to at least be in the matchday squad regularly but with Silva now admitting that he isn't fit enough to be a regular part of his plans, it's now time for the Cottagers to take a decision on his future.

His contract doesn't expire until 2024 so the chances of offloading him permanently in the coming months look slim, but the second-tier side shouldn't be looking to do that at this stage considering the potential and ability he has.

This is why a temporary move away makes sense at this stage despite some fans potentially wanting to retain him – because he isn't the reliable figure they desperately need in their intense battle for automatic promotion.

And with Denis Odoi acting as Kenny Tete's understudy as Cyrus Christie remains out of the first-team picture, a loan arrival of a central defender could be a wise option to shake up the defence and maximise performance levels, something that can only help in their quest to return to the Premier League.

In the meantime, the club can make a judgement on whether Kongolo has shown he can be reliable and fit enough during his loan spell away from Craven Cottage to potentially play in the top flight next term.

But right now, they cannot afford to rely on him with Covid cases still likely to cause havoc and injuries coming into play.

He may end up becoming a star in west London in the coming years – but he isn't even fit enough to provide an alternative option to Adarabioyo and Ream right now – and this is why it's time to say goodbye.

But only for now.

Tete delighted to break his duck

Fulham full back Kenny Tete was delighted to score his first goal for the club on his return to the side after suffering with coronavirus.

The Dutch defender glanced in Aleksandar Mitrovic's free header from a corner to score Fulham's fourth goal of seven in a sensational rout of Reading last night. Tete told FFCTV after the final whistle:

"What a night. What a performance. A clean sheet and a win – seven goals, it couldn't be better. I scored so I'm very happy! I was waiting for it for one and a half years. I had Covid two weeks ago – so I was happy to come back and score straight away. I want to thank the fans for everything – they were amazing tonight."

Tete admitted that Fulham have been fired up to prove that their underwhelming pre-Christmas form was merely a blip and establish themselves at the top of the Championship once again.

"The way we finished the way wasn't good enough. We didn't win for a long time. We were really looking for that win. We started the year good at Bristol [City] and now today as well. We have to build from here, keep our feet on the ground. I know we have a great team and there will be more wins in the future."

Fulham close gap on Cherries with another seven-goal rout

FULHAM moved to within one point of Cherries with their second 7-0 away win of the Championship season.

Marco Silva's men headed to the Select Car Leasing Stadium in Reading last night on a run of five games without a win in the second tier.

That had seen them drop off top spot, with Scott Parker's men sneaking ahead of them. They even slipped to third behind Blackburn Rovers in recent weeks, following postponements.

However, Fulham got back in track in some style, thumping Veljko Paunovic's struggling Royals.

Former Cherries loanee Harry Wilson struck twice, as did the Championship's leading goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Kenny Tete, Neeskens Kebano and Tosin Adarabioyo were also on target in the rout.

Reading striker Andy Carroll had two goals disallowed for offside for the hosts before the second-half capitulation.

It is the second time Silva's charges have won 7-0 this season, also dispatching of Blackburn by the same score at Ewood Park in November.

Fulham now sit second in the Championship with 48 points from 24 fixtures.

Cherries have 49 from 25 games, while Blackburn are down to third with 46 points, also from 25 matches.

Parker's men are back in action on Saturday, travelling to Luton Town (12.30pm).

Chris Coleman II
Chris Coleman
Wales, 2012-2017

Having made a change to their formation at the start of a qualifying campaign in which his team was expected to struggle, Chris Coleman memorably led Wales to the semi finals of Euro 2016. Favouring a 3-4-2-1 that gave them greater defensive security, Coleman freed up the mercurial talents of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, who played in the wide number 10 positions behind a lone striker.

There was more to Coleman's thinking than just giving his two leading players free roles, however. Their new positions meant that they had less distance to travel to support attacks following an attacking transition, and also helped Wales to create overloads in central areas. Speaking exclusively to The Coaches' Voice, Coleman explains how he got the best out of both Bale and Ramsey, and why their change in formation was so crucial to Wales' success at Euro 2016.

'An astute signing,' 'Good addition' – Fulham linked with transfer move for Championship livewire: The verdict

This article is part of Football League World's 'The Verdict' series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...

According to Teamtalk, Fulham are amongst the clubs keen on signing Josh Bowler from Blackpool.

The young attacker has had a stellar season so far at Bloomfield Road, after joining the club following his exit from Premier League side Everton.

Would he be a good signing for the Whites? Some of our writers at FLW discuss...

Charlie Gregory
Josh Bowler has certainly lit up the Championship for Blackpool since their promotion into the second tier, so it's easy to see why Fulham are now keen to bring him in.

The player does represent a solid investment. At just 22-years-old, he is young with plenty of potential to get even better and would likely have a high resale value to boot. With experience under his belt in this division already, that also stands him in good stead going forward and means that he could easily step in and do a job for Fulham now.

While he might not be a nailed on starter with the Cottagers right away, he's a fantastic option for them to have. Other sides have backups who aren't necessarily at the required standard but Bowler is. He could start for most teams in the league based on his showings and his talent is clear for many to see.

If Fulham do manage to snap him up, then it would be an astute signing for the club.

Billy Mulley
Josh Bowler is a bright, exciting player who brings positivity and creativity to the final third for Blackpool.

He has a wand of a left foot, possessing the vision and technical ability to consistently cause problems in the orange of Blackpool.

He has been excellent since arriving from Everton this season and certainly has the ability to operate at the top end of the division.

He has not got the numbers that his performances deserve this season, with just one goal and three assists to his name, but he is a constant source of chances.

I think he would be a good addition at Fulham, maybe not for now, but his incredibly high ceiling suggests that he could cut it at Premier League level in the future.

If Fulham were to secure his transfer, a loan move back to Blackpool would be the best option.

George Dagless
I think it could be a cracking signing for Fulham, given the potential he has.

You've got to say fair play to Neil Critchley once again at Blackpool, for identifying Bowler's talents after he left Everton and for giving the player the chance, platform and guidance to really show what he can do.

He has lots of potential and should only get better as a footballer, and you can see why Fulham might well be eager on signing him.

The Whites have some good attacking options already, of course, but Bowler is the sort of player that could improve them even further in the years ahead, and I think if they are promoted to the Premier League in particular then it will be a really tempting proposal for him.

Neeskens Kebano sends message to Fulham fans after 7-0 battering of Reading

Fulham winger Neeskens Kebano has taken to Twitter to share a message after scoring for the club in their latest Championship clash.

The Cottagers produced a superb performance against Reading last night as they secured a 7-0 victory over their second-tier opponents at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Harry Wilson opened the scoring for Fulham in the 13th minute as he latched onto a misplaced pass from Josh Laurent before slotting past goalkeeper Luke Southwood.

Aleksandar Mitrovic then doubled his side's advantage on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot.

Following the break, Wilson and Kenny Tete netted for the Cottagers.

Kebano then added a fifth for his side in the 70th minute.

Tosin Adarabioyo made it 6-0 before Mitrovic scored his 24th goal of the season in the closing stages of the game.

As a result of this triumph, Fulham moved up to second in the Championship standings and are now only one point behind current leaders AFC Bournemouth.

Making reference to his side's latest display on Twitter, Kebano has admitted that it was a great win for the club.

The winger posted: "Great win tonight [Tuesday] to start well this year.

"Well done guys, we know what we want.

The Verdict

The nature of this victory is likely to send shockwaves through the Championship as Fulham showed no mercy for Reading last night.

As well as scoring in this particular fixture, Kebano managed to provide two key passes for his team-mates at the Select Car Leasing Stadium as he recorded an impressive WhoScored match rating of 8.83.

When you consider that the winger has now provided 10 direct goal contributions in the second-tier this season, he will be brimming with confidence heading into Fulham's clash with Bristol City this weekend.

Keeping this in mind, it wouldn't be at all surprising if he adds to this particular tally at Craven Cottage as Nigel Pearson's side have only managed to keep three clean-sheets at this level during the current campaign.

How Fulham routed the Royals

Where to start? When I contemplated penning some thoughts on the rearranged trip to Reading, I didn't dare dream Fulham register a 7-0 win, their second of the season – something last achieved on the road more than a hundred years ago by the Liverpool side of 1895-1896. My personal 4-1 pre-match prediction seems tame now, but I felt it was pretty optimistic given Fulham's recent form and I must admit to not feeling particularly positive about proceedings at half-time – even with the Whites 2-0 up.

Understandably, Marco Silva's side looked like a team who hadn't played for a while, lacking a cutting edge in the final third with a frustrating reluctance to pull the trigger. A couple of heavy crosses from good positions by Kenny Tete and poor decisions from Antonee Robinson on the left added to the sense of rustiness. The Royals were in a generous mood, however, putting Wilson's first goal on a plate for the Welshman with a poor back pass. He needed no second invitation to accept the belated Christmas gift.

Wilson was Fulham's constant threat in the first half. He appeared unstoppable down the right, finding himself in on goal on a couple of occasions before being felled by Tom Holmes after being threaded through by Tom Cairney. There was no doubting who was going to take the penalty and Aleksandar Mitrovic dispatched it emphatically into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 right on the stroke of half time. That scoreline was much more comfortable than it could have been. A disastrous bit of defending from Robinson provided Mamadi Camara with a chance to equalise but Marek Rodak made a magnificent save from the midfielder's backheel. Had that crept into the corner, our evening might have been very different.

Andy Carroll rolled the back the years in the first half with a virtuoso performance leading the Reading line. His hold-up play was excellent and he'll be gutted to have come away without goal after two sublime offside finishes in the space of a minute. The first was a brilliant bicycle kick in the bottom right corner, whilst the second saw him control a cross magnificently on his chest and looping volley into the right hand side of the net – although Rodak was motionless having spotted the flag going up.

I don't know what words of wisdom Silva dispensed at half time but instantly we looked hungrier after the break. We found ourselves in promising positions but didn't fashion a clear opening until Robinson's cut back was met by Harry Wilson for a tap in, his second of the game on the hour mark. What followed was some of the best football I've seen Fulham play; something I've said a number of times already this season. We had the momentum and kept on pushing, with Cairney and Reed controlling the engine room expertly, Wilson and Kebano stretching the defence out wide, creating chances and winning corners, two of which resulted in goals, not an uncommon sight for the Fulham fans this season.

The first looked like a training ground routine re-adapted. Wilson swung the ball away from goal to Mitrovic, who I'm sure was meant to volley it goalward. Instead, a powerful header from the edge of the box was glanced in by Tete for his first goal in a Fulham shirt. That was four and, at this point, the away end sensed seven might be on the cards again. Moments later Wilson swung in another corner and a towering header from Tosin found the bottom corner. The Fulham faithful were in full voice again after a dispiriting December. Next up was Kebano, who fully deserved a goal after another scintillating showing down the left. He was denied by a fine Southwood save a little earlier, but the Congolese winger wasn't to be denied. Wilson supplied a simple cross after being played in by a brilliant bit of vision and execution from Mitrovic and Kebano couldn't miss.

Six goals to the good, Silva decided to ring the changes. We could easily have left it there and secured a clean sheet – as Scott Parker had tried to do and failed here a couple of years ago when facing ten men. This Fulham side does things differently. It was refreshing to see Silva take the more adventurous route. Rodrigo Muniz is fast becoming a fan favourite and made the most of his cameo bursting away from Holmes in the blink of an eye only to be thwarted by another smart Southwood save. Mitrovic's sprint to reach the rebound and secure a seventh typified his desire. That takes his tally for 24 this season and 77 in total for Fulham, which lifts him above the late, great Jimmy Conway to become Fulham's thirteenth highest goalscorer of all-time.

After the disappointments at Reading, a miserable mauling under Felix Magath and the pain of that narrow play-off semi-final defeat, here was a magical night to savour for the travelling Fulham faithful. Reading look utterly rudderless and the less said about their attendance the better, although fair play to the diehards who were still there to see the last rites of their record home defeat. As the away end sung, 'Manchester City, we're coming for you!'

Fulham defender in Swansea City link

Talksport journalist Alex Crook has linked the Swans with a move for another defender – this time the name of Cyrus Christie is suggested as a potential transfer target for the Swans.

It is turning into one of the busiest windows in some time for us with speculation around a host of players coming through various media outlets and yet so far it is only Andy Fisher who has made the journey to sign on at the Swansea.com stadium.

In response to his original tweet (below) Alex also said that he believed the deal to be close which could potentially even mean that any move to be completed by the weekend?

29 year old Christie is a Republic of Ireland international previously having played for Coventry, Derby and Middlesbrough and spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.Β  He has 29 caps to his name.

Speaking in an interview with the Evening Standard (well worth a read and linked to here) last month he pretty much admitted his time with Fulham was likely to be over after finding himself on the sidelines for some time.

The Irishman said: "Mentally, I can't let it break me down.

"I always thought I'd be given an opportunity but I've found it hard to come by.

"The boys are doing fantastic this season.

"The manager's made a decision – and that's football. You learn that. You have to get on with it.

"I have to look for a new chapter, get back to playing football and be the best version of myself as a footballer. I have lost that at Fulham."

A very interesting link this one and given the response of Alex Crook one that could well come to fruition.

Swansea set to sign Christie

Swansea are close to signing Fulham full back Cyrus Christie, according to reports this afternoon.

Talksport football correspondent Alex Crook reports that the deal to take the Republic of Ireland international is well advanced. Christie's contract at Craven Cottage is up at the end of the season and current Fulham head coach Marco Silva revealed earlier this month he would do whatever he could to ensure the 28 year-old moved on during the January transfer window after deeming him surplus to requirements.

Christie, who was part of two Championship-promotion winning sides at Fulham, has made just a single appearance under Silva and is desperate to play regular football to revive his international career after missing out on the last Irish squad. He has previously been linked with Blackburn, Cardiff, Elche and Bologna – but it seems as though Russell Martin is nearing his second signing of the window.

Christie has made 68 appearances in his three years in south west London since signing from Middlesbrough in January 2018. He has slipped behind Kenny Tete and Denis Odoi in the pecking order at right back since SIlva succeeded Scott Parker this summer.

Talking Points: Reading

7-0... x2!

Wow! Another 7-0. I can't remember the last time a team won multiple away games by 7+ goals in a single season? But I doubt anyone can because the last team to do it were Liverpool in the 1895-96 season. A mind-blowing statistic and a testament to Marco's side who take no prisoners when they can sniff that an opponent's confidence is low. That's now 58 goals scored this season, giving us a goal difference of 39, the second highest in the top four divisions, second only to the Whites' FA Cup Fourth Round opponents Manchester City, whose goal difference sits at 40.

Rody to the rescue

For most of the game, you might not have realised that Rody was on the pitch, which is reflective of how the outfield players helped to make his job a lot easier last night. However, when the score was only at 1-0, Reading came with some pressure that saw an opportunity fall to Camara, who backheeled a shot from 6 yards and forced Rody into making an incredible save with cat-like reflexes to tip it around the post.

Wonderful Wilson

What more is left to say about this man. Contributing to six goals in a 7-0 win is quite something. 2 goals, three assists and he won the penalty for Mitro's first goal. Our Welsh Wizard has often been self-critical of his performances when speaking to FFCtv but with efforts like that in a game, he will be sure to finish the season with a goal and assist tally to be proud of.

A first for Kenny

"What a night, what a performance," said a very happy Kenny in his post-match interview after Reading. Even he found himself amongst the goals after helping in an effort, originally headed towards goal by Mitro. We will never know whether his effort was going in but I'm sure Mitro won't mind donating just one of his goals this season – I think he has plenty! It was Kenny's first goal in Fulham colours and that celebration tells you everything about what it means to him.

It's only three points

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Marco was keen to play down the scoreline and highlight that it is the same three points. It is an important mentality that he and the team seem to have adopted as they pursue a successful season.

"We are happy, we need this type of performance, we need goals, we need to boost the confidence for our front line, the defenders. All these situations are important for us but at the end, it is just three points."

Swansea's Christie move collapses

Fulham full back Cyrus Christie's proposed move to Swansea City has collapsed, according to reports from Wales this afternoon.

Talksport's football correspondent Alex Crook had earlier reported that the Republic of Ireland international was set to end his frustrating spell on the Craven Cottage sidelines by joining Swansea as a direct replacement for Manchester United youngster Ethan Laird, who was loaned to Bournemouth by the Old Trafford outfit. But a Wales Online story in the last few minutes suggests that the deal taking Christie to south Wales has fallen through.

Christie, who won two Championship promotions with Fulham, is desperate to secure a move away from Craven Cottage this month to revive his international career after making just one appearance for the Whites this season.

Swansea City dealt major setback in move for Championship defender

Swansea City's move to sign Fulham right-back Cyrus Christie has collapsed, a report from Wales Online has revealed.

Having seen Ethan Laird recalled from his loan spell in Wales by parent club Manchester United earlier this month – with the 20-year-old subsequently loaned to another Championship side in Bournemouth – a new right-back is a priority for the Swans this month.

That had led to reports from TalkSport journalist Alex Crook claiming that Swansea were close to the signing of Christie from Fulham, amid claims from Swans manager Russell Martin that he was confident of signing a new right-back.

Now however, it seems as though a move to take the 29-year-old from London to Wales in the current market will not be happening.

According to this latest update, the deal to take Christie to Swansea has now collapsed, leaving the Swans to look for alternative options to fill the void on the right-hand side of their defence.

After spending last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, Christie has made just one Cup appearance for Fulham during the current campaign.

As things stand, the Republic of Ireland's contract at Craven Cottage is set to expire at this summer, meaning this month is Fulham's last chance to receive a fee for the defender.

The Verdict

You feel this will be a frustrating update for all involved here.

For Swansea, it means they are missing out on an experienced and reliable option in a position they badly need to strengthen this month.

Fulham meanwhile, have missed a chance to cash in on a player they could soon lose for free in the coming months, potentially denying them some useful funds.

Christie meanwhile, is surely desperate to get back to match action as soon as possible after so long out, so the fact he will not be getting that opportunity to do so with a move to Swansea, could be hard for him to take as well.

Seri man of match as Ivory Coast start with a win

Fulham midfielder Jean Michael Seri was named man of the match tonight after starring as the Ivory Coast begin their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a win over Equatorial Guinea.

Seri, restored to the Fulham engine room by Marco Silva this summer, delivered a composed display in the heart of the Ivory Coast midfield. He distributed the ball with his customary poise but was integral to preventing Equatorial Guinea making any headway through the middle of the pitch – regularly breaking up play with gusto.

Ivory Coast's captain Max Gradel settled a tight contest with an absolute screamer from 20 yards after just five minutes. The Elephants sit top of Group E and face Sierra Leone, who drew with Algeria in their opening fixture, on Sunday afternoon.

Ex-Dundee and Fulham star Kevin McDonald 'training with Dundee United'

Former Dundee and Fulham midfielder Kevin McDonald is training with Dundee United, according to reports.

McDonald is said to be using the Tangerines' facilities in a bid to get back into football.

The 33-year-old was released by The Cottagers last year at the end of his contract.

Prior to that he underwent a kidney transplant, receiving the organ from his brother.

Afterwards, he revealed he was "scared for his life" in the operating theatre moments before the procedure.

Tam Courts' side recently announced a partnership with McDonald's former London team and have given him the opportunity to get back into shape, according to the Daily Record.

In October last year we revealed that the Carnoustie-born star was training with rivals Dundee.

McDonald started his career at Dens Park, making 90 appearances before securing a big move to Burnley in 2008.

He then enjoyed spells at Sheffield United, Wolves and Fulham.
