Championship trio join Bolton Wanderers in chase of Fulham's Marlon Fossey

Bolton Wanderers have been joined by three unnamed Championship clubs in the race to sign Fulham's right-sided star Marlon Fossey, it has emerged from The Bolton News.

Championship clubs will be looking to make a strong start in their pursuit of transfer targets, with plenty of business already taking place before the transfer window officially opens next Friday (June 10th).

And now, according to The Bolton News, three Championship clubs have set their sights on Fulham ace Fossey.

It is claimed that three unnamed second-tier sides are interested in signing the American talent, dealing a blow to League One side Bolton Wanderers' bid to reunite with their former loan star.

The Trotters' interest in a permanent deal for Fossey has been well documented, with Ian Evatt showing no hesitation in confirming his desire to sign the 23-year-old this summer, even stating he was confident of a deal back in March.

However, the fresh interest in Fossey's services could see them miss out on the former loan star.

The time for a move...

At 23 and with his Fulham contract expiring at the end of next season, it seems the time has come for Fossey to move on from Craven Cottage to forge a career in the EFL.

Before linking up with Bolton Wanderers in January, Fossey had still been playing U23s football with the young Cottagers, and his form while at the University of Bolton Stadium displayed he is more than capable of playing above that level.

The Los Angeles-born wing-back managed one goal and five assists in 15 League One outings for Bolton Wanderers.

While the Trotters had hoped they could tie up a deal for the Fulham man, it seems new Championship interest could scupper their bid to bring Fossey back for good.

Fulham target not a priority for Marco Silva – Claims of move being 'one step' away dismissed

This week, we had seen confident reports from the Portuguese media claiming Braga midfielder Almoatasembellah Al Musrati was close to moving from Braga to Fulham.

It was said the Cottagers had accelerated for a deal and the 26-year-old could soon join the Whites for their upcoming Premier League campaign.

However, as we get to see a couple of stories about the midfielder today, we read that Fulham are actually far from winning the race for him.

One of the articles comes from Jornal de Notícias. The newspaper writes that despite being a target for the Cottagers, who are willing to spend €15m on the signing, the midfielder is still wanted by Turkish and German clubs.

Then we have a stronger piece from O Jogo, who point out that Libya released Al Musrati to sort out his future.

The newspaper writes that Fulham are 'very attentive' to the midfielder, but 'his destination could be another'. They say even though reports from England claim the player is 'one step' from joining the Cottagers, the situation is a little different.

It's claimed the London side follow Al Musrati 'for some time', but the player 'is not a priority' for manager Marco Silva. O Jogo says he could actually end up going somewhere else, with joining Jorge Jesus at Fenerbahce being a possibility.

Fulham set to be dealt crushing transfer blow in quest to land 29 y/o

Premier League outfit Everton are set to beat league rivals Aston Villa and Fulham to the signing of Burnley ace James Tarkowski, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The 29-year-old made 35 top-tier appearances during the 2021/22 campaign as one of the first names on the teamsheet in Lancashire – and was a shining light during what was a bleak campaign at Turf Moor as his side were relegated back to the Championship.

With this, the central defender looks set to end his seven-year stay with the Clarets in favour of a move back up to the top tier, with a potential World Cup place in Gareth Southgate's England squad on offer if he can impress from now until the latter stages of the year.

The Toffees are set to provide him with the platform to impress in the top flight once more, beating the likes of Villa, Leeds United, Leicester City and the Cottagers to his signature in what is a real blow for the latter.

Marco Silva's side are looking to strengthen their squad significantly during the summer window in their quest to remain afloat in the division for the long term – with the centre-back area likely to come up as a priority for the west London outfit to address.

Michael Hector and Alfie Mawson's departures leave a big hole for the promoted outfit to address during the summer, with Terence Kongola's future in the English capital also remaining uncertain.

The Verdict:

Tarkowski would have been a magnificent addition to have alongside Tosin Adarabioyo in central defence so it's a big shame they now look set to miss out on him, though they should have other irons in the fire.

Getting value for money on players this summer will be crucial to their chances of remaining afloat in the division and this is why the Burnley centre-back would have been such a good signing to have as a free agent.

As their summer back in 2018 showed, the Cottagers aren't guaranteed to be successful if they become big spenders in the coming months, so recruiting hidden gems will be key to ensuring they can address their defence without spending a huge amount.

It will also enable them to invest in other areas, because their centre-half area isn't the only position they need to look at this summer.

They may also require a first-choice goalkeeper, a replacement for Neco Williams, central midfielders following the departures of Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Jean Michael Seri, a winger and a man to come in and replace Fabio Carvalho.

Their forward area is another position they need to add more depth to.

William Carvalho Report

William Carvalho is a player we have been linked with signing for the second time in a space of a year. Why? Because he has the qualities of a Premier League player, but perhaps now you're questioning his age. Well, 30 years old isn't that bad and some say you get better with age. He still has a lot of offer and has never played Premier League football, which might be the temptation for him the second time around. I still believe he is the player who was outstanding in 2016 European Championships winning squad for Portugal.

Marco clearly has a plan, in Marco we trust so let's dive in and see what sort of player William Carvalho is.

Carvalho mainly plays as a defensive midfielder. He can also play as a centre back or as a central mid sometimes this is something that could be useful for Fulham depending on what Marco has in store for us – will he go for more of a 4-3-3 or will he be switching it and reverting to a 5-2-3 with two holding midfielders. Another option is a 4-2-3-1 with two sitting in front of the back four allowing both full backs and the four in-front to push on.

Carvalho has the mentality of winning any ball that can lead to only a few errors. He is a passing merchant who can read the game by cutting the passing lane, and someone who can occasionally play the long through balls. (I'm now starting to see a pattern.) He can dribble with the ball and with the physicality size of the player his bulky presence makes him harder to tackle.

He is a delight to watch in my opinion forget the age and forget the price tag its about what he can bring. Though he lacks a great deal of pace it simply doesn't matter because who cares about pace anyway, this isn't FIFA. The important thing about a player like Carvalho is the other attributes he shows. He is the type of box to box type player that has all-round class meaning that even if he does sometimes seem to just stroll about the pitch, he's almost always in full control of the midfield battle and in the right place at the right time. And when he's in possession and charging forward, he's very difficult to stop.

He brings a two sided game can do well defensive but also can be on the front foot charging forward.

His time at Real Betis maybe underwhelming s looking back at his time in Spain I do see a potential move on the table for the former Sporting Lisbon player who knows Silva having spent time there together and I can see Silva giving Carvalho the kickstart to show the world who the real William Carvalho is.

How to solve the Fab Carvalho departure

With Fulham supposedly slightly against FFP and the deal for Manor Solomon up in the air the Whites are left with limited options when It comes to a replacement for the brilliant star boy Fabio Carvalho who despite his tender age will be a huge gap to fill in the squad next campaign.

There are a few options available to Marco Silva in that he may decide not to replace the Portugal u21 international and instead adopt a more defensive midfield with two holding midfielders or one holding and two number eights. This would be a good way of getting around not getting a direct replacement for Fabio, as someone of that quality would definitely cost a pretty penny either in fee or wages should Silva decide to go with a free agent or both if the club decide to splash what cash they have on a marquee signing in the number ten role.

Another option for the club I've touched on a bit in my previous paragraph is to go all out and blow what cash the club has on replacing Fabio in the hope the creativity and goalscoring of the new man can be enough to help keep Fulham above the dreaded drop zone. My personal opinion is this is a huge risk if the club decide to go that route as we all know there are other areas of the team that requires significant strengthening before we look at the number ten position. We all know by now that a loan back isn't an option due to Premier League rules and Jurgen Klopp has also come out and said that Carvalho will be part of the first team, so for Fulham, they must keep looking.

The free agent market is another option here and Fulham appear to be looking at out of contract players with rumours about centre backs and a potential move for West Ham pair Andriy Yarmolenko and Ryan Fredericks in the media recently; it wouldn't be mad to think that Fulham may be looking for Fabs replacement here as well.

Some big names are out of contract and Fulham could swoop if they chose to.

The likes of Jesse Lingard have been rumoured in the media, he would add Premier League quality in abundance and possesses a definite goal threat but also his rumoured £180k wages would prove a huge stumbling block for Fulham although sometimes you need to take big risks for big reward.

Other big names on the list are Isco, the Spanish star who has fallen over the last few years but there is no doubt in his ability and possibly a move to London and the Premier League could reignite his career. And at the age of 30, he could have 2 or 3 good seasons in him.

Jean Paul Boetius is a name that has been linked with Fulham in the past and has according to some on social media said he feels a connection with the club. At 28, he is in his prime and could be a great addition to Fulham should the Whites want to make a move.

Filip Djuricic is another good option for Fulham. He had a great start to his career in Holland but has since become a bit of a nearly man; spells at big clubs like Benfica didn't exactly go to plan but he has found his feet at Sassuolo in Italy over the last few years. At the age of 30, and an international team mate of Aleksandar Mitrovic, he could be a shrewd free transfer this summer.

My own opinion is that Fulham need to stay up this time, and to do that a short term fix isn't always the worst option. The news that 34 year old Juan Mata is now a free agent will mean I'm sure there will be many suitors. Juan is a player who has always shown the right attitude towards the game as well as having years of experience at the top and in the Premier League; if the Spaniard could be be convinced to stay in England, Fulham could do a lot worse than make a move for Juan Mata.

Finally and possibly the most out of the box and definitely the most risky is to promote from within. Fulham have a conveyer belt of talent coming through and players like Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho show the quality is there in the academy. Players that have taken the eye this season are U21s captain Sonny Hilton who led the u21s to their league title whilst being nominated for Premier League 2 Player Of The Season. Luke Harris, who has been promoted to the first team for their upcoming pre season training, is another to keep your eye on pushing for a senior spot. Choosing this option is definitely a brave and very risky one as putting your hope in a youngster puts a lot of pressure on the player at such a tender age. I think Silva should use the new 9 subs on the bench and 5 available to ease these youngsters in but in my personal opinion this isn't the answer for who should replace Carvalho.

Verdict: As we all know the Premier League is going to be a lot tougher than the Championship was and having someone between the lines with vision and a goal threat could well be key to keeping Mitrovic sufficiently supplied and in turn Fulham remaining in the top flight so for me a new number ten is a priority this summer, and although they won't play every game especially against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, where a more conservative approach will be needed, a new number ten could play a crucial part in Fulham's survival.

Crystal Palace transfer developments impacting Man Utd, Rangers, Leeds and Fulham

The latest Crystal Palace transfer news and rumours involving Man Utd, Leeds and Fulham.

The summer transfer window opens soon and Crystal Palace will be eyeing up some reinforcements to try and improve on their 12-place finish in the Premier League.

Patrick Vieira has already had to deal with the loan deal of Conor Gallagher concluding and a replacement for him will be a priority.

Club chairman Steve Parish will have been happy with Vieira's maiden season in charge of the club and will want to bolster their chances of a top ten finish next year.

In light of this, here is the Eagles latest transfer news and rumours.

Palace contemplate Wan-Bissaka return

Crystal Palace are still trying to figure out whether they will attempt to bring Aaron Wan-Bissaka back from Manchester United.

The defender has been told that he is not part of new manager Erik ten Hag's plans at Old Trafford, and this has led to the possibility of him returning to Selhurst Park.

Vieira is keen to add to his right-back choices, with Nathaniel Clyne and Joel Ward both over 30 years of age.

The fee to bring back Wan-Bissaka may be a sticking point for the Eagles, with United hoping to recoup some of their original £50m they spent on the player.

The MEN have reported that United are 'offering the defender to clubs'.

Fulham to battle with Palace for O'Brien

Fulham will join Palace in the battle for Lewis O'Brien's signature this summer, as the player looks for a Premier League move.

Huddersfield seem determined to keep hold of the player, but this is unlikely with a release clause being added to the player's contract in January of £12m.

Palace will have to try and fend off interest from Marco Silva and Fulham to sign the midfielder. O'Brien would be a strong replacement for the outgoing Gallagher.

Palace target Aribo

Patrick Vieira is ready to make an approach for Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo who scored the club's only goal in the Europa League final a few weeks ago.

The Athletic report that Vieira is looking to bring the 25-year-old to Selhurst park with the player only having one year left on his current deal at Ibrox.

Rangers will do everything they can to keep hold of their star man, but it will be an interesting story to follow.

Carlisle keen on Hilton loan

Carlisle United are keen on taking Fulham under 23 skipper Sonny Hilton on a season-long loan next season.

Hilton was one of Fulham's leading performances as Steve Wigley's side stormed to the PL2 Division 2 title last term, scoring nine goals and adding twelve assists in 26 games. His influence as captain of a young side was rewarded with a contract extension last month but the 21 year-old, who spent three months in Finland on loan at TPS, last summer is desperate for regular senior football.

The former Tranmere Rovers midfielder is well known to Carlisle boss Paul Simpson from his years in charge of England's under 20 side but the Cumbrians, who finished twentieth in League One last term, are unlikely to be the only side interested in Hilton's services.
