Kieran retools the middle

After the recent news of Jean-Michel Seri being released, a move that left a hole in many fans heart. I would like to say it was a pleasure watching the Ivorian International and wish him luck in the future.

Even though we are allegedly set to sign Al Musarati from Braga, a very talented creative midfielder. I do have doubts and believe that we are still light in the middle of the park. With reports of us looking to offload Josh Onomah, that leaves Fulham with only three midfielders; Nathaniel Chalobah, Harrison Reed and Tom Cairney, all who are no strangers to the treatment table. So I have gone ahead and picked out six midfielders who I believe Fulham should be looking at.

The first player on my list is Spanish Midfielder Martín Zubimendi who plays for Real Sociedad, he is becoming one of the quickest uprising Midfielder in the league after his superb performances since the COVID-19 season. He has previously played under Xabi Alonso with the Sociedad B side. Zubimendi is a right footed defensive playmaker. A well built player with physical attributes, he does lack pace and mobility which doesn't stop the player from putting in a shift for the team. He is very coordinated in his playset to be able to escape pressure, he is able to use both of his feet to control the ball and pass the ball. For a team like Fulham, he fits the style of playing from the back in a formation like 4-3-3 being his strong suit. His positioning at Fulham would help Reed push up the pitch more, while he is positioned behind the first pressing line. This is the sort of midfielder to replace Seri but with Real Sociedad so set on his €60 million release clause could Marco tempt them in a cut deal with MJF from AEW going on loan?

My next player is Algerian international Hicham Boudaoui, he is predominantly a right winger but can operate as a central midfielder. He thrives under pressure with close control of the ball (one on one), his change of pace down the wing as well as middle of the park and his non stop work rate which is seems to be missing at Fulham. He can put in the shift to win back possession in dangerous areas which he can convert into counter attacking football. The 22 year old still has a lot to learn with room to develop but with his exciting present he is definitely the next big star for African football.

Sander Berge, a Norwegian international, and a player that is known to English football having played with Sheffield United in the Premier League. During the 2021/22 season, he played his way in the Championship racking up 6 goals and 4 assists in 33 games. A towering figure in the middle standing at 6 feet 3 inches, he could be perfect partner for potential new signing Al Musarati. The two midfielders are very similar; massive frames and adept at defending both aerially and on the ground. Berge is a player that we could utilise in the box at set pieces in defence and attack. The Norwegian possesses three key components to excel him as a potential Fulham legend; brilliant passing, dribbling and ball control. Sander Berge would be an ideal signing.

Bryan Heynan, a Belgian, would be a stellar signing for the Whites. He can operate in a number 6,8 and 10 role. He is a central midfielder who can play deeper than the rest and is quite ambidextrous with his right foot being his preferred foot. He is a very progressive midfielder who loves to get forward with the ball at any given chance. He likes to play the risky passes behind the oppositions defensive line and he isn't afraid to pop a shot on goal either. In my book, he's a hidden gem with the potential to be the next Mousa Dembele.

Luka Ivanusec, 23 year old Croatian attacking midfielder. He is very productive in the middle, likes to pick up the ball from deep and his eagle eye vision on top of technical ability sees him able to thread through balls for on running attackers. A very keen dribbler who can cut in from the left onto his right, with this ability he can ease pass players with the ball. He's capable of creating opportunities for the team to press forward in an counter attacking football style.

Mahmoud Dahoud is a questionable one many would say. I do understand he hasn't had the best time at Dortmund since moving to the black and yellows in 2017. At the time of his arrival he was one of the brightest prospects in the country, a German international tipped for big things. His career became stale due to being cast aside and falling down the pecking order. He is very aware in stopping passing lanes and screening the runs of opposition strikers. The best suited style for him would be an architectural midfielder rather then the box to box midfielder.

Honourable mentions Lewis O'Brien, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Tyler Adams, Seko Fofana and Jean-Paul Boëtius

Brentford handed Premier League boost with Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest promotion

Thomas Frank's side are set for a busy next term but the majority of away games are not too far away for the London outfit

Thomas Frank will be undergoing preparations ahead of Brentford's return to pre-season training later this month, ahead of what is set to be a gruelling second season for the Bees.

Frank will be hoping Brentford don't become victims of "second season syndrome" and there will need to be plenty of transfer activity in both directions to ensure the Bees can survive for a second successive season.

A huge positive ahead of 2022/23 in particular, is that 13 of Brentford's 19 away trips are within London, the Midlands and the South Coast, which indicates tiredness really should not be an issue for Frank's side.

Brentford will have six London derbies on the road next season, including a trip to Craven Cottage to face familiar foes in what is set to be the first ever meeting between the two in the top flight.

The Bees enjoyed their fair share of joy on the road in the capital last season, with wins against West Ham and more famously Chelsea highlights of a incredible debut campaign.

With Fulham added to the list of London derbies, Brentford are set to rack up roughly 139 miles in trips around London alone.

London:

Arsenal - 24.1

Chelsea - 11.8

Crystal Palace - 27.6

Fulham - 9.9

Tottenham - 33.8

West Ham - 31.5

TOTAL: 138.7

With Nottingham Forest sealing a return to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years, Brentford will be up against a familiar opponent in 2022/23. The Bees and Reds met each other in the Championship for seven seasons prior to the former's promotion, with Brentford enjoying winning eight out of the 14 league meetings.

The Bees enjoyed their trips to the Midlands last season, with a well deserved point at Villa Park earlier in the season before a memorable win against Wolves at Molineux a couple of weeks after, to give Frank's side their first ever away Premier League win. However, they did go down to defeat against Leicester at the King Power, although they were unfortunate not to at least take a share of the spoils.

Midlands:

Aston Villa - 243

Leicester - 209

Nottingham Forest - 267

Wolverhampton Wanderers - 268

TOTAL: 987

Bournemouth are another familiar rival the Bees are set to go to battle with in next season's Premier League campaign. Brentford had overcome the Cherries in the play-offs to get to the Premier League back in 2020/21.

Having lost the first leg at the Vitality and gone 0-2 down on aggregate early on, the Bees looked like their dream of Premier League football would be quashed for a second season running, but an incredible fight back from Frank's side got them to Wembley. As they say, the rest is history.

It's safe to say the Bees didn't enjoy their trips to the South Coast last season, with defeats against Brighton and Southampton. However, they'll be hoping to rectify their away form when next season comes around.

South Coast:

AFC Bournemouth - 197.2

Brighton and Hove Albion - 148.3

Southampton - 145.6

TOTAL: 491.1

With over 1,600 miles being clocked from trips across London, the Midlands and the South Coast, Brentford will have a number of long distance trips up north. However, there are only six of them which won't phase Frank and the players too much. The Bees will make two visits to Liverpool and Manchester, along with solo trips to Leeds and Newcastle.

The Bees didn't have the best of times in the north, although they signed off in style when they came from 2-1 down to beat Everton 2-3 at Goodison Park in their final away game in 2021/22. Before that win, defeats came against Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester City, with draws at Leeds and Newcastle - two games Brentford should have won.

The trips north of England are set to take Brentford over 2,630 miles, with the trip to St James' Park set to become a 565 mile round trip from Brentford Community Stadium and back.

North:

Anfield - 431

Goodison Park - 434

Etihad - 410

Old Trafford - 407

Elland Road - 390

St James' Park - 565

TOTAL: 2,637

Overall: 4,253.8 miles

Fulham interested in Crystal Palace star Luka Milivojevic

Crystal Palace midfielder Luka Milivojevic has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham.

According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace midfielder Luka Milivojevic is on the radars of newly-promoted Premier League club Fulham heading into the summer transfer window.

Milivojevic joined Crystal Palace from Greek club Olympiacos in the January transfer window of 2017. The 31-year-old soon became a mainstay in the centre of the park for the Eagles under then-manager Sam Allardyce and continued to play a key role under Roy Hodgson, although his game-time took a hit this past season after Patrick Vieira in took charge of the team.

Indeed, the former Arsenal captain preferred the likes of Cheikhou Kouyate, James McArthur and Will Hughes ahead of Milivojevic in the defensive midfield role in the 2021/22 campaign. As a result, the Serbian was restricted to just 15 Premier League appearances in the campaign, only nine of which were from the start.

Milivojevic will be entering the final year of his contract this summer, and with Crystal Palace lining up the signing of a new midfielder, the 31-year-old will be allowed to leave by the Eagles. And newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham have emerged as a prospective suitor for Milivojevic ahead of the summer transfer window.

Fulham enjoyed a brilliant 2021/22 season as they romped home to the EFL Championship title, which earned them automatic promotion to the top flight. And manager Marco Silva is already chalking out plans to strengthen his roster ahead of what could be a tough season back in the Premier League.

Defensive midfield is an area where Fulham can use reinforcements as Jean Michael Seri is on his way out with his contract expiring at the end of June. The Cottagers have been linked with a move for Real Betis and Portugal midfielder William Carvalho, while there is also interest in Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Winks.

Now Milivojevic has also emerged as a prospective target for the London club. The 31-year-old will likely be available for cheap due to his contract situation. At the same time, he is a player that Fulham manager Marco Silva knows well, having coached him at Olympiacos in the past. However, they might face competition from fellow promoted club Nottingham Forest in pursuit of the Crystal Palace star.

Our mid field has been subject to trial and change since the break up of Cairney/Mc Donald/Stefjo, now with the loss of Carvalho, Seri and Anguissa it has just about disintegrated.
New signings are needed and in the next month, it is so critical that we get the right players , a couple of duds could spell relegation.

Agreed - we can't go into the super athletic Prem with Cairney & Reed...but if we're playing with one striker in Mitro (God help us if he's injured) then it must be a midfield full of goals as well .
