Fulham fancy Styles

Fulham are one of three Premier League sides keen on signing Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles, who came on as a substitute in Hungary's win over England this weekend, according to the Daily Mirror.

Styles, who qualifies for Hungary through his grandmother, came through Bury's youth set up before joining Barnsley for £500,000 in 2018. He has made more than a hundred league appearances for the Tykes, memorably scoring at Brentford on the final night of the 2020 Championship season. Although Barnsley went down last term, the 22 year-old was one of the division's most consistent midfielders, scoring three goals in 43 league matches, and his versatility – able to operate on the left side of midfield, in the middle or in advanced number ten role – has sparked serious interest in his services.

The Mirror, in a wide-ranging interview by John Cross, claims that Fulham will have to battle fellow newly-promoted sides Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest for the Middleton-born midfielder's services. Styles, who admits to being desperate to play at the highest level possible, looks likely to be on the move this summer – although Barnsley will demand a substantial fee for his services.

Nation's media give 'marvelous' Liverpool star 10/10 for 'special' weekend display

Neco Williams is being linked with a summer exit away from Liverpool, but that did not stop him starring for Wales – earning a 10/10 rating from Welsh media. Wales beat Ukraine to book their place at the 2022 World Cup.

The goal came in the first half of rain-soaked Cardiff City Stadium, as Gareth Bale's free-kick was inadvertently headed into his own net by Andriy Yarmolenko. It proved to be the only goal of the game.

That is, despite numerous chances for both sides. Ukraine were probably the better side but that famous Welsh spirit played its part, with the likes of Ben Davies, Joe Rodon and Wayne Hennessey making crucial blocks throughout.

Lady luck shined on Wales against a side that have been excellent in qualifying, in Ukraine. It is sad to see Ukraine exit given their ongoing pain and suffering, but Wales book their place in the World Cup for the first time since 1958.

Williams, 21, was superb. His 20th cap, the defender lined-up on the left of a 3-4-3 system. He was up and down, he was tenacious, he played his part defensively and in the final third. Wales Online gave him 10/10:

"Covered every blade of grass. Constant thorn in the Ukraine defence, and a bully defensively. Marvellous intervention to deny Yaremchuk. He's not had many better games for Wales. A special performance from a special player."

Liverpool star Williams gets 10/10 for Wales display against Ukraine

Liverpool have a real talent on their hands – but also a problem. He is never going to overtake Trent Alexander-Arnold or Andy Robertson. But he is too good to simply sit there and be happy as back-up.

Especially, with the World Cup coming. He needs to join a side where he is a regular, a club in the Premier League. A permanent move to Fulham has got to be an option. Reports say the £10million man wants to join Fulham.

Fulham-linked midfielder Nemanja Matic set to seal Roma move after Manchester United exit

Fulham's reported target Nemanja Matic has agreed to join Roma on a one-year deal, Fabrizio Romano has reported.

Fulham's preparations for life back in the Premier League will hopefully include adding some top-flight experience to their ranks.

One man identified as a target that could do just that is veteran midfielder Matic, who will be available for nothing after his contract with Manchester United comes to an end this summer.

However, it has now emerged that the Serbian will be heading for a new challenge in Italy instead.

As revealed by trusted reporter Romano on Twitter, Matic will be penning a one-year deal with Italian giants and Europa Conference League winners Roma. The move will see him reunite with Jose Mourinho, who he played under during his time with Chelsea and Manchester United.

The move dashes any Fulham hopes of an agreement, so their attentions will now turn to fresh targets in the middle of the park.

Better alternatives?

At 33, Matic possesses exactly what Fulham need this summer – Premier League experience.

The midfielder has played at the very top for the vast majority of his career and his pedigree would have been of great value to Marco Silva's squad.

However, performances for Manchester United of late have shown that Matic's prime is behind him somewhat and he is seemingly heading into the twilight of his career.

Providing they can add some Premier League pedigree elsewhere, pursuing a younger, fresher midfielder with a higher ceiling could be beneficial for the Cottagers, so it will be interesting to see who makes their way through the doors at Craven Cottage this summer.

Fulham and Bournemouth joined by Celtic in pursuit of Wales international Rabbi Matondo

Fulham and Bournemouth target Rabbi Matondo is on Celtic and Rangers' transfer radar, according to The Guardian (via 90min.com).

The winger is poised to leave current club Schalke 04 this summer following their promotion to the Bundesliga.

Matondo, 21, has been linked with both Fulham and Bournemouth after their respective promotions from the Championship.

He has a big decision to make on his next move over the next couple of months, despite still having 12 months left on his contract at the Parkstadion.

Fulham and Bournemouth face competition

Fulham and Bournemouth will have to see off competition from elsewhere if they are to lure Matondo back to the UK in the transfer window.

The Wales international is from Liverpool and had spells in the academies at Cardiff City and Manchester City before moving over to Germany in 2019.

He has since made 32 appearances in all competitions for Schalke and has chipped in with two goals.

Matondo was loaned out to Stoke City a couple of years ago but struggled to make an impact with the Potters, scoring once in 11 outings.

The attacker then spent the past campaign with Club Brugge and found his feet in Belgium, firing 10 goals in 27 games from the wing.

His career is now at a crossroads and both Fulham and Bournemouth have been joined by Celtic and Rangers in the chase for him.

Both the Cottagers and the Cherries are gearing up for life back in the Premier League and will both be eager to bolster their ranks.

Fulham willing to pay €15m for signing – Player could be club's first sale this summer

Fulham are showing 'tremendous interest' in signing Álex Moreno from Real Betis, according to multiple claims from Spain today.

The Cottagers, who have been promoted to the Premier League, plan to bring the 28-year-old to England this summer.

AS explain the left-back can become the La Liga side's first sale of the summer if Fulham's interest turns into a deal.

It's claimed Marco Silva's side are willing to pay €15m to secure the services of the former Barcelona youngster.

Over at Diario de Sevilla, they explain the fullback's impressive campaign, where he scored five goals and registered five assists, has not gone unnoticed.

The Spanish side are aware the player has aroused interest of clubs in England and are now waiting for possible bids.

Fulham are tagged by the newspaper as they are the side who seem 'most interested' in Manuel Pellegrini's man.

Real Betis are aware of the Cottagers' economic potential to sign the player.

In need to raise funds to balance the books before June 30th, Betis 'want to obtain the highest possible return' from Moreno's sale to the newly promoted Premier League side.

Moreno's sale can help Betis raise funds to reinvest in their squad for the next campaign.

Fulham linked with Betis full-back Moreno

Fulham are keen on Real Betis full-back Alex Moreno, reports coming out of Spain suggest.

Since their promotion to the Premier League, Fulham have been linked with a host of potential summer signings.

Marco Silva looks set to be a busy man in the transfer market over the next couple of months and the latest name being tipped for a summer move to Craven Cottage is Moreno.

The 28-year-old has just capped another impressive season for Manuel Pellegrini's Betis side, featuring 30 times in La Liga, scoring five and assisting three across the campaign.

One report in Spain suggests that €15million-rated Moreno could be Betis' first summer sale whilst another report (via Sport Witness) says that Fulham are currently the most interested side.

Betis are said to be awaiting bids for Moreno.

What to make of this rumour?

Fulham have already been linked with a tonne of potential new signings ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window later this week, and a number of players from Europe.

The Londoners have raided the European leagues in the past for some big money signings. But the club has also spent quite poorly in recent seasons so they'll surely be cautious this time round.

Moreno looks like a keen player nevertheless and a new full-back, on either side, is something that Silva could really do with this summer.

And another questions remains, will Fulham spend big this summer?

The club isn't short of money and with so many reports linking them with some big money signings like Moreno, it could indicate that the club are once again willing to spend big this summer.

It's certainly an exciting time to be a Fulham fan.

Internationals: Harry Books World Cup Spot

Harry Wilson's Wales will compete at a World Cup for the first time since 1958, after beating Ukraine 1-0.

The two nations contested the Play-Off Final in Cardiff on Sunday evening, with the victors claiming the final European place at this winter's Qatar tournament.

A tightly contested and highly charged encounter was settled in the first half, when Ukraine captain Andriy Yarmolenko inadvertently headed Gareth Bale's free-kick into his own net.

Wilson began the match on the bench, and replaced Bale with seven minutes to play, successfully helping his side see the game out – notably with a crunching challenge in stoppage time to halt any threat of a final Ukraine attack.

The win means Wales take the final spot in Group B this November, where they will come up against England, Iran and the United States.

In the Nations League, Aleksandar Mitrović was on the scoresheet against as Serbia beat Slovenia 4-1.

The big man reacted quickly after Sergej Milinkovic-Savic had seen an effort saved, to plant a diving header into the net to open the scoring.

Mitrović – who was captaining the side – played 81 minutes of the encounter as Serbia moved up to second in League B, Group 4.

On Friday, Marek Rodák kept a clean sheet as Slovakia kicked off their Nations League campaign with three points.

They won 1-0 in Belarus, and will fancy their chances of coming out on top of a group that also contains Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

The Democratic Republic of Congo's qualification campaign for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations began with a defeat.

Neeskens Kebano came off the bench in the 63rd minute, but couldn't help his side find an equaliser, as they slipped to a 1-0 loss at home.

Antonee Robinson came off the bench in the United States' goalless draw with Uruguay in a friendly in Kansas City.

The left-back also played the first half of a 3-0 victory over Morocco in Cincinnati last Wednesday.

Australia Under-23s' Asia Cup campaign has begun with a win and a draw, with Tyrese Francois captaining the side.

After a 2-0 win over Kuwait, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Iraq. Australia top their group ahead of their final match against Jordan on Tuesday.

In qualifying for the Under-21 European Championship, Ollie O'Neill came off the bench in the 64th minute of the Republic of Ireland's 3-0 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina, while George Okkas played the final 20 of Cyprus' 2-0 loss in Belarus.

At Under-20 level, Ziyad Larkeche featured in two of France's three group games at the Toulon Tournament, as they defeated Argentina and Saudi Arabia, and drew with Panama, to top Group A.

Fulham make Moreno move

Various reports in Spain have identified the Real Betis full back Álex Moreno as a strong Fulham transfer target.

The 28 year-old is the subject of serious interest across Europe after an outstanding campaign for Manuel Pelligrini's side, scoring five goals and adding four assists in 30 La Liga appearances as Betis qualified for the Europa League.

AS assert that Fulham will table a bid of around £12.8m for Moreno, who came through the La Masia academy at Barcelona, and Betis would entertain a deal for the adventurous left-back – very much in the Marco Silva mould – as they seek to raise funds for some summer spending of their own, according to Diario de Sevilla. Moreno, who won the Copa del Roy with Los Verdiblancos last season, is under contract at the Estadio Benito Villamarin until the summer of 2025.

Fulham will pay £13m for La Liga ace and want Nottingham Forest target

Premier League newcomers Fulham want a new left-back with Barnsley's Callum Styles and Real Betis' Alex Moreno on Marco Silva's radar, as reported by The Mirror and AS.

There is no room for sentiment at Craven Cottage. Not if Fulham are to avoid a repeat of their last two top-flight campaigns.

Antonee Robinson might have been a key cog in Silva's winning machine during an excellent 2021/22 campaign but can the jet-heeled American make the step up required? Fulham's interest in both Styles and Moreno suggests that the Cottagers are looking for, if not a replacement, then someone capable of competing with Robinson for a place in the starting XI.

Styles, a Bury-born Hungary international, is also a target for Bournemouth and play-off winners Nottingham Forest. And, after Barnsley were relegated from the Championship, the technically-gifted, versatile Styles is making no secret of his desire to move on.

"Our (Hungary) team has really, really good players also and the standard is very good, so that is obviously going to help push my dream of becoming a Premier League player," says Styles, who came off the bench during Saturday's 1-0 UEFA Nations League triumph over Gareth Southgate's side.

"Me and the club have spoken and we think it is the best time to move on. Fingers crossed somebody will come in with an offer because I want to play at the top. The club have said that's how they see it as well, so hopefully it will be an easy process."

Fulham target Real Betis' Alex Moreno and Barnsley's Callum Styles

Styles will certainly come a lot cheaper than Moreno.

One of the most productive, swashbuckling left-backs in La Liga, Moreno was a revelation as Real Betis secured their first piece of silverware in 17 years last term. He produced a combined ten goals and assists from his so-called 'defensive' role, and Fulham are reportedly willing to pay in excess of £13 million.

Betis are unlikely to stand in Moreno's way either.

The former Espanyol man recently turned 29 and Manuel Pellegrini already has a readymade replacement in Juan Miranda.

Latest Fulham news: International duo linked, clubs lining up to sign Whites youngster + more

Fulham have been linked with a number of new signings ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Fulham stormed towards the Championship title last season. They finished two points ahead of Bournemouth and eight ahead of Huddersfield Town in 3rd, and now Marco Silva's side look set to be busy this summer.

Reports have linked the Londoners with a host of potential new signings, with the latest being Alex Moreno.

The Real Betis full-back is said to be on Fulham's radar with reports coming out of Spain (via Sport Witness) backing Silva's side to make a €15million move in the coming weeks.

Elsewhere, Fulham were said to have scouts at the England v Hungary game over the weekend.

One report says Fulham were looking at Fenerbahce full-back Attila Szalai, whilst other reports credited them with an interest in Barnsley's Callum Styles – both of whom featured for Hungary on Saturday.

But whilst several players are said to be on Fulham's radar, one player who looks as though he could be making his exit from the club this summer is Marlon Fossey.

The youngster impressed on loan at Bolton Wanderers in the second half of last season and reports say that the Trotters have joined three unnamed Championship sides in pursuit of the full-back.

There looks to be a lot going on at Fulham at the moment. Silva has plenty of work to do this summer to give his side a chance of survival next season, and some of the names being linked with a move to Craven Cottage should give fans optimism ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Brighton ensured a sixth consecutive season in the top flight as they secured their highest ever finish in the Premier League with a ninth placed position.

Graham Potter's team impressed as they amassed 51 points from their 38 matches and were not too far away from the European spots.

The challenge of course is to repeat that success and hopefully improve. Potter will aim to keep majority of his squad together this summer and also make one or two shrewd additions in the transfer market to an already strong squad.

A few of the top Albion players have been linked with moves away from the Amex Stadium, with influential midfielder Yves Bissouma, playmaker Leo Trossard, keeper Rob Sanchez and the impressive left-sided Spaniard Marc Cucurella all attracting interest from elsewhere.

Three new teams will enter the Premier League next season with Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest all coming up from the Championship, with Norwich, Watford and Burnley dropping down to the second tier.

Fulham and Bournemouth will arrive with strong squads, while Forest, who came up via the play-offs will relish their long-awaited return to the top flight under their impressive manager Steve Cooper.

"Should definitely get a deal done" – Fulham consider summer move for Barnsley player: The verdict

This article is part of Football League World's 'The Verdict' series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...

Fulham are weighing up a summer move for Barnsley's versatile star Callum Styles, as per a report from The Mirror.

The report states that the Cottagers will have to battle it out with fellow promoted sides Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, whilst the Yorkshire Post claims Hungarian club Ferencvaros have made contact with the 22-year-old.

Winning the Championship's Young Player of the Season award during the 2020/21 campaign, Styles certainly possesses a very high ceiling.

The 22-year-old is also a Hungarian international, qualifying to represent his nation through his grandmother.

Three of our writers here at FLW have assessed Fulham's interest in the influential Barnsley man...

Charlie Gregory

Callum Styles has proven that he can be an excellent option in the Championship and considering his age, he has the ability to get even better too.

That's why I feel he would be a superb signing for Fulham. Yes, he might not have much in the way of top flight experience but at just 22-years-old, it's no surprise that he hasn't yet. Considering that he might not cost an arm and a leg because of where Barnsley are sitting in the Football League pyramid too and it could be a shrewd move.

He certainly looks like he has the potential to be a really good player down the line and the fact that he has already featured on the international stage for Hungary is another positive. He might not be a signing that is 100% needed but if he can be snapped up, then the Cottagers should definitely get a deal done.

Styles deserves to keep playing at the highest level and he could have the chance to now.

Declan Harte

Given Barnsley will need to sell due to their relegation to League One, this could be a very shrewd signing for Fulham.

The playmaker has been one of the Tykes' best players in the last couple of seasons, and the 22-year old still has plenty of potential to continue improving.

He could make for an excellent addition to the Fulham side, even if he likely wouldn't go straight into the starting lineup.

Styles has earned international recognition by getting into the Hungary side, and that feels like it could be only the beginning of a very promising career at the top level.

George Dagless

He'd be a fine signing for Fulham.

He's a class player and one that would perhaps deserve a shot in the Premier League with the right club.

I think there's an opportunity for him inside Fulham's squad and I think if he went there he would continue to develop well under manager Marco Silva.

'Love this country' - Harry Wilson as Wales qualify for Qatar 2022

ONE of North Wales' finest footballing talents has spoken of his 'love' for Wales after they qualified for their first World Cup in 64 years.

The 1-0 win over Ukraine in Cardiff on Sunday (June 5) meant Rob Page's side are off to Qatar to make their first World Cup finals appearance since Sweden 1958.

Among those to play in that win was Harry Wilson, who came on from the bench late on.

Born in Wrexham, the Fulham FC winger went on to attend Ysgol Dinas Bran school in Llangollen and was brought up in the Denbighshire town of Corwen.

From a young age, his footballing talents were clear to see and the family made national headlines when he made his international debut for Wales aged just 16 years and 207 days old v Belgium in October 2013.

That is because his grandfather, Peter Edwards, netted £125,000 as a result of having placed a bet of £50 with bookies William Hill on Harry to someday go on and play for Wales when he was just 18-months old.

By now, he has starred for the likes of Hull City, Derby County, Bournemouth and Cardiff City at both EFL Championship and Premier League level before arriving at current club Fulham who will also play in the top-flight next season.

Following Wales' historic World Cup qualification on Sunday, Wilson took to Twitter to talk about his 'love for Wales'.

The 25-year-old has 36 caps and 5 goals for his country so far and is expected to be part of that World Cup squad for Qatar 2022.

Fulham willing to spend big to land red-hot Real Betis star Alex Moreno

Fulham are reportedly willing to spend €15million to secure the services of red-hot Real Betis star Alex Moreno this summer.

Moreno has been in spectacular form for Betis over the last season. The left-back scored five goals and provided a further five assists in all competitions during the campaign.

Indeed, that makes it the most successful campaign of his career in terms of goal production. Moreno was also part of a good deal of team success, too.

Betis enjoyed their highest finish in La Liga since the 2004/05 season, as they ended the season in fifth place. They also made it to the last 16 of the Europa League.

The side's best achievement was their Copa del Rey triumph, though. Betis won the Spanish cup for just the third time in their history this season, and Moreno featured in every game.

Fulham have reportedly registered an interest in Moreno, following his top season. That is according to AS, who report the newly-promoted Premier League side are showing 'tremendous interest'.

That report also states that Fulham are willing to pay €15million (£12.8million) for the Spaniard.

A fee of that size would be a big one for Fulham. Indeed, should they spend that, it would be the seventh-highest transfer fee they have ever spent.

Following promotion from the Championship, the Cottagers likely have a good deal of funds to utilise. Betis reportedly need to raise funds, so a transfer may well go smoothly.

Indeed, Fulham will want to maintain their Premier League status, and a signing like Moreno could help them to do so.

Alex Moreno should improve Fulham quality

The signing of Moreno should improve the quality in Fulham's side. The Spaniard has performed well over the last season in La Liga, as well as in Europe.

Adding a player with top-flight experience will be a big addition for the Cottagers. The two left-backs they currently have in the squad do not have a great deal of Premier League experience.

Joe Bryan has played in the Championship for the majority of his career. The two seasons he has played in the Premier League were with Fulham, and both times they were relegated.

Antonee Robinson – who has been preferred to Bryan over the last season – has played just one season in the top flight, the last time Fulham were relegated.

As such, Moreno, who has played in La Liga for the past four seasons, would surely be an improvement on the pair. Robinson, at 24 years of age, could learn from the experienced star, which would also be a positive for Fulham.

Wolves leave Fulham free for £13m deal with £20m Molineux move agreed

There's not much between Joao Palhinha and Al-Musrati. Just three centre-metres, to be precise.

The former is 6ft 3ins, while the latter stands at 6ft 4ins. And the similarities between two of the Primeira Liga's most physically-imposing central midfielders don't stop there either.

Both rank towards the top when it comes to interceptions and tackles per game among all the midfielders in the Primeira Liga (WhoScored).

Palhinha's ability to break up opposition attacks before starting his own with those short, sharp, line-piercing passes helped Sporting Lisbon claim their first domestic title in 20 years last season, while earning him a place in Portugal's European Championship squad.

Al-Musrati might not have a league title on his CV but, what he lacks in trophies, he certainly makes up for in effectiveness.

"I saw many of his games in the Portuguese league and many others in the Europa League. You could see his importance to the team. He had a great season," the 26-year-old's Libya coach, Corentin Martins, tells A Bola.

"He has quality, gives rhythm to the game, calms the play or provides fast passes forward. We also see his tremendous ability for covering the ground. He recovers a lot of balls. He makes me think a little about Danilo, from PSG."

Wolves agree Joao Palhinha deal as Fulham hold Al-Musrati talks

With Wolverhampton Wanderers hoping to bring in a destructive defensive midfielder this summer, one capable of providing muscle and presence in front of a backline that looked increasingly vulnerable as the campaign progressed, it makes sense that Al-Musrati would join Palhinha on their wish-list.

And not just because Wolves do so much shopping in Portugal that they probably qualify for a loyalty card.

Palhinha and Al-Musrati are roughly the same height. They have roughly the same skillset too. There's only room for one, however, especially with Lage keen to keep Joao Moutinho and Sport claiming that Wolves are desperate to bring in fresh-faced Barcelona 'number six' Nico Gonzalez.

And The Sun believes that Palhinha, rather than Al-Musrati, is the man in pole position for a move to Molineux. The long-time transfer target has already agreed personal terms and could seal a long-awaited £20 million deal in the coming days.

That does not mean Al-Musrati will not be joining him in England. Fulham have been in talks with the 40-cap Libya international since May, with Marco Silva understood to be a big fan. Al-Musrati was recently left out this month's African Cup of Nations qualifiers as he closes in on a big-money move.

And Fulham fans will be watching developments regarding Wolves and Palhinha closely. Because, while the door to Molineux shuts in Al-Musrati's face, a window of opportunity should open up in West London.

Fulham interested in signing Alex Moreno

Newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham are interested in signing Real Betis full-back Alex Moreno.

According to Spanish publications AS, Fulham are interested in signing Real Betis left-back Alex Moreno in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Fulham finished atop the EFL Championship table to return to the English top flight and are now eager to strengthen ahead of the new season to extend their stay in the league. Real Betis' Moreno has emerged as a potential signing, and they are preparing a summer offer for the Spaniard.

Fulham are ready to spend upwards of €15 million for the 28-year-old left-back and have also established contacts with the player's entourage. Moreno still has three years left on his contract with Real Betis and reportedly has a release clause worth €40 million in his contract.

The left-back joined Betis from Rayo Vallecano in the 2019 summer window for just €7 million and has grown into an important player at the club. He has since made 103 appearances for Los Verdiblancos, scoring six goals and assisting 11 times.

Moreno was especially impressive this season, making 30 league appearances as Betis finished fifth in La Liga. Moreno also scored five goals and provided four assists in the Spanish top-flight, which has made him a sought-after player in the transfer market. Barcelona are said to be interested in the Spanish left-back as well with some other Premier League clubs tracking his situation as well.

Fulham have Joe Bryan and Antonee Robinson as their options at left-back but are seeking an upgrade as they wish to compete strongly on their return to the Premier League. It has led to them being interested in Alex Moreno. The 28-year-old is aware that he could get an improved contract if he chooses to move on from Real Betis this summer and could thus push for an exit.

The two clubs reportedly share a good rapport, having discussed a possible move for William Carvalho last season, which didn't materialise. Carvalho, who has just a year left on his Betis contract, is another player Fulham are interested in with Marco Silva a big admirer. It will be interesting to see whether Fulham can close the deal for either of the two Real Betis stars this summer.

Leeds United, Fulham interested in Manchester United outcast Phil Jones

Phil Jones is a target for Leeds United and Fulham as Erik ten Hag is reportedly willing to axe the injury-prone Manchester United defender.

According to Fichajes, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is willing to axe Phil Jones from his squad this summer, while the defender continues to attract interest. Fulham and Leeds United are keen on signing the Englishman, as they see him as a high-quality squad option.

Phil Jones' once-promising career has been hampered by injuries that have kept him on the fringes of this Manchester United team for years. As a result, the centre-back managed only six Premier League appearances in his last three seasons, while missing the entirety of the 2020/21 season.

There were plenty of criticism aimed at then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for keeping the defender in the team and handing him a new contract. The Norwegian had cited injury problems for his lack of game-time. In the last campaign, he only started two games and came on twice as a substitute.

In the summer, things could change for Jones as Manchester United could entertain offers for the 30-year-old, who is not part of the plans under new manager Erik ten Hag, who is keen on bringing in a new defender.

Several Premier League sides are keen on signing Jones this summer as they see him as a quality depth option, Fulham and Leeds United are reportedly keen to recruit the experienced centre-back to their squad next season.

Marco Silva's newly-promoted side are keen on adding bargain players to their side as they embark on a season where their only objective is to survive in the top flight. A player of Jones' experience could prove crucial to that cause. The former Blackburn defender may not be considered a starting option, although he would add plenty of know-how and depth to the side.

Leeds United could challenge Fulham as Jesse Marsch looks to add players who could help shore up the defence. The Whites were terrible defensively in the season gone by, and adding a player of Jones' qualities might help them add an extra layer of protection, provided he stays fit.

Manchester United reportedly wants at least €4 million from suitors. However, the defender's terrible injury record and a lack of game time in the last three seasons will come up in negotiations, as clubs such as Fulham and Leeds United will look to get him for lesser or possibly even on a free transfer.

Who is Sonny Hilton? The Fulham midfielder linked with summer transfer to Carlisle United

Carlisle United have been linked with a summer move for Fulham midfielder Sonny Hilton - but who is he?

The Blues are set for a busy summer in the market with Paul Simpson looking to rebuild his squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

And Hilton is one of the first names linked with a switch to Brunton Park - and has some strong pedigree behind him.

Here's everything you need to know about the talented youngster linked with Carlisle United:

Key details

Age: 21

Position: Midfielder

Current club: Fulham

What has Sonny Hilton's career been like so far?

Hilton, who was born in Liverpool, began his career with Tranmere Rovers.

His performances on Merseyside drew attention from a number of clubs, but it was Fulham who won the race for his signature in the summer of 2016.

He initially teamed-up with the Cottagers' under-16 side but quickly progressed into the under-18 setup.

A loan move to Finnish side TPS Turku gave Hilton some valuable senior experience across three months in 2021, and he was named as Fulham's under-23 captain on his return to London.

And the youngster played a key role as the Craven Cottage outfit lifted the Premier League 2 Division 2 title last season.

There has also been international recognition for Hilton, who has turned out for England's under-17 squad.

What type of player is Sonny Hilton?

Hilton has spent much of his fledgling career playing as a central midfielder - but impressed when deployed on the right wing last season.

His loan spell in Finland occasionally saw the 21-year-old play in a more defensive right-sided role, but it's in the final third where he can really make his mark.

Nine goals and 12 assists in just 26 Premier League 2 games last season underlines that fact, with a further three goals coming in cup competitions.

That return saw Hilton recently nominated for the Premier League 2 player of the season award - alongside the likes of Manchester City's James McAtee and Liverpool's Conor Bradley.

A cultured and adventurous player, Hilton matches his technical ability with a tenacity that sets him apart from players of a similar age.

Such a trait sees him contribute plenty when it comes to defensive duties as well - but there's no doubt that Hilton is a more attack-minded player.

And his ability to play either centrally or out wide will no doubt prove attractive to potential suitors.

What is Sonny Hilton's situation at Fulham?

Hilton recently saw an option exercised on his contract which will see him remain at Craven Cottage until the summer of 2023.

But with Marco Silva's senior side having recently gained promotion back to the Premeir League, there will be doubts over whether first-team football is a realistic option at his parent club in the short-term.

What do the transfer rumours say?

The Hammy End report that Carlisle are keen on a loan move for Hilton.

They claim that the Blues are eyeing a season-long deal for the youngster, but admit Simpson's side are unlikely to be the only club interested.

Bolton Wanderers transfer news - Preston North End chase Fulham's Marlon Fossey

PRESTON North End have emerged as main rivals for Marlon Fossey's signature this summer.

The Championship club are understood to be one of a handful of second-tier sides interested in the Fulham wing-back, who proved a big hit during a loan spell at the UniBol last season.

Fulham are willing sellers after promotion to the Premier League and had struck an "informal" deal with the Whites when he moved up to Lancashire at the start of the year.

Fossey wants regular first team football after growing out of the development squad game and is known to have enjoyed his time at Bolton, despite his campaign being cut short by a knee injury.

He has 12 months left on his contract at Craven Cottage and though Bolton have made what they consider an acceptable offer, it has become clear in recent weeks that Fulham will not be rushed into a decision.

Preston want a right-sided wing-back as top priority this summer and sources close to the club say Fossey is one of a few options they are currently investigating.

Another one of Fossey's suitors is believed to be Birmingham City – who had set their sights until recently on Forest Green Rovers' Kane Wilson.

The out-of-contract defender also has a cluster of Championship sides chasing him at present, and where he ends up could also have a knock-on effect on Fossey's destination.

Statistically, both players stood out in their respective positions last season, and while Wanderers have by no means been ruled out of the running, the prospect of Championship football and a bigger transfer fee could take the matter out of their hands entirely.

Reports suggest that Derby County have also stolen a march on the Whites' efforts to sign free agent Tom Barkuizen.

The winger was released by Preston this summer after six seasons with the Lancashire outfit.

Derby are still waiting for clearance to make transfers, as they are currently in an EFL embargo as the final details of Chris Kirchner's takeover of the club are completed.

League One side are bracing themselves for the Rams to bring a big playing budget to the division, however, despite being stripped down to the bare bones during administration.

Manager Wayne Rooney has said the East Midlands club may need 40 new signings to stock their first team and development squad.
