Potential AFC Bournemouth and Fulham transfer boost emerges on 25 y/o

Premier League outfit Newcastle United are unlikely to recruit Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson this summer despite being heavily linked with a move, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The 25-year-old could potentially leave Old Trafford this summer after continuing to find himself behind David De Gea in the pecking order at Old Trafford, meaning he made just three competitive appearances for the Red Devils during the 2021/22 campaign.

Despite this lack of first-team opportunities to shine, he isn't short of interest with AFC Bournemouth and Fulham both reported to be monitoring the Englishman's situation ahead of the summer window.

It was even revealed that United were weighing up moves for Newcastle's Karl Darlow and Watford's Daniel Bachmann, increasing speculation regarding Henderson's future with both interested sides potentially needing to address their goalkeeping situation in the coming months.

Marco Silva's side have already been linked with numerous goalkeepers in recent times including Nick Pope and Thomas Strakosha, though the former's £40m price tag may force the Cottagers out of the race if Burnley are unwilling to lower his valuation.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, will need another first-team option after seeing former loanee Freddie Woodman return to Newcastle United, failing to make any real impact at the Vitality Stadium during his short time on the south coast.

And both have been boosted by this latest report that the Magpies aren't pursuing a move for the 25-year-old, even though they look set to address their goalkeeping area this summer.

The Verdict:

With Marek Rodak and Paulo Gazzaniga both available as first-team options at Craven Cottage, it would surely make sense to get one of those off the wage bill if they are to bring in a new goalkeeper.

Doing that could potentially make room for another player, who could make all the difference for Silva's side, to arrive. Recruiting in this area would probably be wise though to give themselves the best chance of remaining afloat at the top level.

Unfortunately for them, they may need to spend big if they are to address the positions they need to with a centre-back, right-back, a midfielder or two, a creative player to replace Fabio Carvalho and at least one forward to arrive.

The Cherries are in a similar position in terms of needing to strengthen several areas – and a goalkeeper simply has to be at the top of their priority list following Woodman's departure because Mark Travers needs adequate competition.

This competition could help the Irishman to continue thriving and that will only help their cause – but it's unclear who would win the race for Henderson's signature if Scott Parker's side and the fellow promoted side were to continue pursuing the United shot-stopper.

Preston join Bolton Wanderers in Fulham player pursuit

Following a 13th-placed Championship finish last time out, Preston North End will be striving for further improvement when the new campaign gets underway.

The club saw a noticeable improvement when Ryan Lowe walked through the doors at Deepdale, with the 43-year-old arriving in December after a successful period with Plymouth Argyle.

Now tasked with a full summer to best prepare his squad for the rigours of challenging nearer the top end of the division, Lowe is looking to bolster his right-wing-back options with the addition of Fulham's Marlon Fossey, as per a report from The Bolton News.

The Lilywhites do face competition from Bolton Wanderers though, with the 23-year-old enjoying a successful stint with the Trotters last season.

The attack-minded wing-back featured 15 times in League One last season, chipping in with a goal and five assists.

The verdict

With the wing-back areas appearing to be positions that will need bolstering this summer, given the importance Lowe placed on those areas whilst at Plymouth, Fossey looks like an excellent option for the Lilywhites to consider.

The 23-year-old, who possesses excellent levels of creativity, pace and dribbling ability, has also proven to be a competent defender who excels when engaging in one-on-one battles.

Despite Bolton working hard to try and secure a further deal for the young wing-back, Preston's Championship status could win them this race.

Especially when considering that Fulham will be plying their trade in the Premier League next season, with a loan stint at the Championship seemingly bridging that gap.
