Bolton Wanderers end their transfer chase of Fulham wingback Marlon Fossey

WANDERERS have admitted defeat in the race to sign Marlon Fossey this summer.

The Bolton News understands that the Fulham wing-back has at least two offers to play football in the Championship next season, and that Ian Evatt has now moved on in his search for a new right wingback.

Fossey became hot property after a successful 15-game spell on loan at the UniBol last season, and though his time was cut short by a knee injury his stats alerted plenty of interest in the division above.

Back in January Bolton had arranged an informal deal with Fulham to sign him on a permanent basis but with bigger offers already being made for the 23-year-old and the situation dragging on towards the start of pre-season, Evatt has taken the decision to look elsewhere.

Concerns had been raised over the player's injury record, although sources close to Fossey insist he has returned stronger than ever after minor surgery on a torn meniscus in his knee in March.

Nevertheless, many Wanderers fans had clamoured for the US-born defender to return, and last week's news that one of his suitors, Preston North End, had switched target to Republic of Ireland international, Cyrus Christie, looked like a step in the right direction.

The lack of progress in recent weeks had become a concern, however, and strong rumours of interest from Wigan Athletic have refused to die down. We have alsolearned that a Midlands-based club have made a strong offer which is being considered by the player and his current employers.

The focus now switches to who Evatt will look to bring in as Fossey's replacement, and the Wanderers boss may take some heart from the fact his side won five and drew three of the eight games the wingback missed last season.

What alternatives to Marlon Fossey are out there for Wanderers?

Gethin Jones and Kieran Sadlier played effectively as a wingback during that spell but Bolton want to recruit a specialist, even if that means bringing in another player on loan and using their spare cash elsewhere.

Although the going has been slow right across football, Wanderers are working on targets and have not ruled out having some new faces on their pre-season trip to Portugal.

The omens are looking much better on James Trafford returning on loan from Manchester City after he finished his stint with the England Under-21 squad.

The Cumbrian keeper won his first cap for the Young Lions last week and the City goalkeeper staff have been pleased with the progress he made under Evatt last season.

Wanderers are also waiting to see if their interest in ex-Preston North End winger Tom Barkhuizen comes to anything, with the 28-year-old also reportedly on the wanted list at Derby County, whose takeover saga shows little sign of being cleared up.

Southampton and Fulham transfers will collapse thanks to £6m swap deal

Fulham and Southampton could both see deals fall apart as Fiorentina offer £6 million plus Bartlomiej Dragowski for Celta Vigo defender Javi Galan, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

Dragowski, you see, is a target for Southampton. Galan, meanwhile, has admirers at Craven Cottage.

So a £6 million player-plus-cash swap deal – one that sees a Poland international shot-stopper end up at Balaidos as one of Europe's most underrated left-backs moves in the other direction – will dash the hopes of both Ralph Hasenhuttl and Marco Silva in one fell swoop.

Fiorentina, TMW claim, are offering £6 million up front for Galan, plus Dragowski. The former Empoli 'keeper – who broke a Serie A record while making a staggering 17 saves in a goalless draw with Atalanta a couple of seasons back – is entering the final year of his La Viola contract. Getting him off the books, while bringing in Galan, would kill two birds with one stone as far as Fiorentina are concerned.

"Several teams (are keen on Galan)," says a spokesperson on behalf of the You First agency that represents the former Leeds United target, adding that it is 'very likely' Galan will soon receive an offer he cannot refuse.

"Javi has a valid contract until 2026. He is very comfortable at Celta. But we will assess his departure if an offer suits the player and the club."

Bad news for both Southampton and Fulham

According to El Desmarque, Fulham have held talks with Celta regarding a deal that would see Galan join the Championship champions for £10 million. The Galicia-based outfit will struggle to turn down a rival offer from Fiorentina, however. Especially given that Dragowski would represent a sizeable coup for a club who finished in the bottom half last term.

An excellent all-round 'keeper blessed with superb reflexes and a real command of his penalty area, Dragowski was expected to end up at Southampton. The Saints now appear to be prioritising Gavin Bazunu, while bringing in free-agent Mateusz Lis.

Lis will spend 2022/23 out on loan, however, meaning there is still place for Dragowski following Fraser Forster's departure.

Report: Nottingham Forest faces competition from Fulham, Wolves for Spurs' £7M defender

Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon is one of the various players that the north London club wants to move on from this summer. After failing to move on from the 24-year-old during the January window, Spurs hope to have better success this time around.

According to The Daily Record, there's a market for Wales international as three Premier League clubs are expressing interest. Fulham, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Nottingham Forest have their eyes on Rodon.

Nottingham Forest needs a central defender as they hope to remain in the Premier League after next season and the Tottenham defender is atop their list of targets.

Rodon is looking for a fresh start since he barely played last season, making only ten appearances for the north London side. Furthermore, with Wales now in the FIFA World Cup, he wants to head into the tournament into good playing form.

When it comes to a possible price, Transfermarkt has Rodon's value at £7-million.

What is the latest with Bernd Leno's situation at Arsenal as Fulham plot move?

Promoted side Fulham are in talks to recruit Arsenal shot-stopper Bernd Leno, according to a report from Sky Sports.

The German is currently second in the pecking order at the Emirates following the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale last summer, with the ex-Sheffield United goalkeeper's arrival initially being met by mixed social media reaction.

However, Ramsdale has managed to silence his critics and force his way into Gareth Southgate's plans at the same time – and looks set to be the Premier League side's first-choice option between the sticks for the foreseeable future.

This provides 30-year-old Leno with a potentially bleak future in the English capital and has just one year left on his current deal.

As well as this, US international Matt Turner is set to officially arrive at Mikel Arteta's side at the start of next month, potentially pushing the German out of the matchday squad altogether next term.

According to The Athletic, 20-year-old Karl Hein is likely to step in to become Arteta's third-choice option in the goalkeeping department following the expiration of his loan spell at Reading, where he initially impressed before suffering a season-ending injury.

That leaves Leno surplus to requirements in the English capital, though he could be offered an escape route to Craven Cottage with multiple outlets including 90min confirming Marco Silva's side's interest in his services, with Newcastle United also thought to be keeping tabs on his current situation.

Making just eight competitive appearances for the Gunners last term after previously being their number one, with four of these displays coming in the top flight, he will be hoping to play more regularly during the 2022/23 campaign and beyond.

Although a deal is yet to be agreed at this stage, talks are set to resume when the 30-year-old returns from his holiday and in good news for the Cottagers, the shot-stopper is keen to remain in London which could put Silva's side in pole position to secure his services.

Fulham, Bournemouth & Nottingham Forest – The Premier League's Three Promoted Clubs

Fixtures for Leicester City's 55th season in the top flight of English football will be announced this week – with three teams returning to the Premier League after time in the Sky Bet Football League.

All 20 sides in the Premier League will discover their 2022/23 schedules at 9am BST on Thursday and, following relegations for Burnley, Watford and Norwich City, there will be three teams back in the top league next term – Fulham, AFC Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.

Ahead of confirmation of City's fixture list, LCFC.com takes a look at the three promoted sides.

Fulham – Championship champions
Under the guidance of former Sporting Lisbon, Olympiacos, Hull City, Watford and Everton manager Marco Silva, Fulham secured an instant return to the Premier League by winning the Championship title last season.

A stunning 43 goals from striker Aleksandar Mitrović – all in the league – was a big factor in the Cottagers' top-flight return, while Fábio Carvalho and Harry Wilson also hit double figures for the west London outfit. USA centre-back Tim Ream, on the other hand, made the most appearances with 47 outings.

There were five Fulham players in the PFA Championship Team of the Year. Ream and Tosin Adarabioyo were named in the backline, with Wilson and Carvalho in midfield, and Mitrović was one of three forwards to be selected.

Ten wins from 12 matches between early January and mid-March helped supercharge Fulham's bid for promotion, starting with a 7-0 away victory over Reading. That form allowed Silva's men to ride out a tense finale to the 2021/22 campaign, which included four losses in seven games.

On the two occasions they came up against Premier League opposition in cup competitions – Manchester City and Leeds United – they lost 4-1 and on penalties respectively. Excitement is building, though, for the new season with over 15,000 season tickets sold at Craven Cottage.

Bournemouth – Back at the second attempt
Former Fulham manager Scott Parker is the man who masterminded Bournemouth's return to the Premier League last term after the Cherries fell short in the Championship play-offs a year earlier. The south coast club finished the 2021/22 season in second place, two points behind champions Fulham.

Top goalscorer Dominic Solanke hit 30 goals for Parker's side in all competitions, while Danish midfielder Philip Billing also struck on 11 occasions. After going unbeaten in their opening 15 matches, Bournemouth won just once in eight games over Christmas, prompting a winter transfer window refresh.

In came James Hill (Fleetwood Town), Siriki Dembélé (Peterborough United) and Kieffer Moore (Cardiff City), while loan deals were struck for Nathaniel Phillips (Liverpool), Freddie Woodman (Newcastle United) and Todd Cantwell (Norwich City). That depth would ultimately allow their league form to settle.

It didn't, though, prevent a shock 1-0 Emirates FA Cup defeat to non-league Boreham Wood at Vitality Stadium in February. Their Carabao Cup campaign, on the other hand, came to a close in August in the form of a 6-0 second round loss at then-Premier League outfit Norwich City.

Nevertheless, Solanke, Billing and Lloyd Kelly were all named in the PFA Team of the Year ahead of the club's sixth Premier League season.

Nottingham Forest – A first top-flight season since 1999
For former English and European champions Nottingham Forest, it's been a long wait for Premier League football. Since Ron Atkinson's Forest were relegated 23 years ago, the East Midlands side have been searching for a return ever since, even spending three seasons in the third tier of English football.

Six defeats in seven matches under Chris Hughton at the start of 2021/22 led to fears of a disappointing campaign at the outset of the season, but the appointment of former Swansea City manager Steve Cooper in September changed all of that at the City Ground.

Forest's form immediately picked up, with a six-game unbeaten run including five victories following Hughton's departure. Brennan Johnson ended the campaign on 19 goals in all competitions, while Lewis Grabban found the net on 13 occasions. Brice Samba also impressed in goal for Forest.

The loan signing of Djed Spence, from Middlesbrough, proved particularly successful too, while Philip Zinckernagel (on loan from Watford) and Sam Surridge (signed permanently from Stoke City) also added quality to the squad. Spence was Forest's one representative in the PFA Team of the Year.

Forest finished fourth in the Championship, overcoming Sheffield United over two legs in the play-offs semi-finals, before beating Huddersfield Town 1-0 at Wembley Stadium in the showpiece. Their cup form also caught the eye, beating Arsenal, Leicester City and Huddersfield in the Emirates FA Cup.

Report: Fulham and Wolves rival Nottingham Forest for Tottenham talent Joe Rodon

Nottingham Forest will face competition from Wolves and Fulham to secure the signing of Tottenham defender Joe Rodon, according to the Daily Record. The Reds are keen to strengthen their central defensive options this summer following promotion to the Premier League.

Forest have been linked with several players since winning promotion over a fortnight ago. The Reds defeated Huddersfield 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, with a Levi Colwill own goal settling the tie.

Now, the challenge for Forest is to build a competitive team for the Premier League. It's been 23 long years since the Reds tasted Premier League football and they will want to make sure their stay isn't short-lived.

Rodon has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham. He managed just 10 appearances last season and that simply won't do during 2022/23 with the World Cup set to take place during the winter in Qatar.

Forest boss Steve Cooper knows all about Rodon. He called him 'fantastic' back in February 2020 and he was in charge of the Swans when he was sold to Tottenham for £11 million.

Rodon is an uncompromising performer. He now has Wolves and Fulham vying for his signature too, with interest likely to be rife in the centre-back during the summer transfer window.

Forest face Rodon competition and Cooper must act

This would be a particularly good signing for Forest. The lure of Wolves and Fulham will be strong but perhaps Cooper is the trump card that can seal a coup for the Reds.

Essentially, Rodon got himself his big move to Tottenham thanks to Cooper. He gave him the confidence to express himself in the first team and that caught the attention of the Premier League big boys.

His time at Spurs hasn't gone overly great. Of course, he'd have liked to have featured more but under Conte, his chances of regular football seem bleak.

With the World Cup just around the corner, he will want to play. The evidence suggests that his best chance of doing that would be at the City Ground.

Tobias Figueiredo has been released by the Reds. That leaves Joe Worrall, Scott McKenna and Steve Cook as the first choice options; with Loic Mbe Soh and Jonathan Panzo providing backup.

As a result, Rodon looks like the ideal addition. The player earns just £24,000-a-week at Tottenham and that salary would hardly break the bank on Trentside.

Fulham set to unveil first summer signing, 'dream' £7m move agreed

Premier League newcomers Fulham are on the verge of finally completing the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Solomon, as reported by Sport 5.

Not so long ago, Solomon was emerging as a transfer target for Manchester City after scoring twice against none other than Real Madrid in the Champions League group-stages. If he can rediscover that sort of form in Fulham colours, you could consider Fabio Carvalho well and truly replaced.

After weeks of 'will-he, won't-he' speculation, the Cottagers have finally reached a breakthrough in talks with the silky Israel international. According to One, an announcement could be made in the coming days.

Fulham will pay £7 million – Solomon's price-tag falling substantially since the outbreak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine – while handing Shakhtar a 15 per cent sell-on clause. Those terms were actually agreed some time ago, with Solomon admitting as far back as early-May that he expected to ply his trade in the Premier League next term.

The former Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target will earn around £25,000-a-week at Craven Cottage, while signing a long-term deal.

Fulham set to finally seal Manor Solomon deal

According to Sport5, Solomon's family are 'very excited' about his impending move to West London. The forward is flattered by the warm reception he's received from Fulham supporters on social media. A move to England is understood to be a 'dream come true'.

"In January, Shakhtar had an offer from Fulham for 18 million euros (£15 million)," says Avi Luzon, the chairman of Solomon's former employers Maccabi Petah Tikva.

"If (Shakhtar) had sold him for that amount, we would've had over a million and a half euros (via our sell-on clause). Fulham benefited, took advantage of the situation in Ukraine."

Fulham are also in talks with Real Betis duo William Carvalho and Alex Moreno. Braga midfielder Al-Musrati and Celta Vigo's Javi Galan are also on their radar.

AFC Bournemouth and Fulham transfer blow emerges regarding Manchester City's 12-cap international

Fulham and Bournemouth have been dealt a transfer blow, with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach emerging as leaders in the race to sign Manchester City defender Ko Itakura.

As per the Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, the German side are prepared to make the Japanese defender a more attractive offer than his suitors in England.

It was previously reported by Lyall that both of the newly-promoted sides were interested in a move for the 25-year-old.

Ko Itakura signed for Manchester City in 2019 and although on the books at the Etihad Stadium, he is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Citizens.

Since then, the 25-year-old has spent all of his time away from Manchester, spending three seasons out on loan at Groningen in the Netherlands between 2019 and 2021.

In his first half season there, he failed to make any first team appearances, but in 2019/20, he racked up 23 appearances for the club.

The following season he had more of an impact, appearing 36 times for the club in all competitions.

Ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, Itakura joined Bundesliga 2 outfit Schalke, where he went on to make 32 appearances for the second-tier German outfit as they won the league title.

The Verdict

This is certainly a blow to Fulham and Bournemouth in their pursuit of the Japanese defender, however, it could be a blessing in disguise.

Itakura has zero experience of playing his football in England, and with all due respect to the second-tier of Germany, the Premier League is a big step up.

For Bournemouth, I'd much rather pursue somebody like Nat Phillips, just because he is more of a known quantity having spent time last season on loan at the Vitality Stadium.

That said, Monchengladbach are a fantastic side and if they see Itakura as a prospective signing, it suggests that they also believe the defender has the quality to compete in one of Europe's elite leagues.

Cairney Claims Goal Of The Season!

Tom Cairney's strike against Cardiff City has been voted as Fulham's Goal of the Season for 2021/22.

With 110 efforts to choose from, it was hard enough to whittle down to a shortlist of 20, and the spread of the voting emphasises just how high a calibre many of our goals were this season.

No doubt plenty of fans were voting with their hearts to put TC at the top of the pile, with the goal in question a beautiful Fulham moment.

Our Club Captain had gone 10 months without kicking a ball for the team he holds so dear, so it was a brilliant occasion in itself when he came off the bench at half-time of our – then goalless – meeting with the Bluebirds at Craven Cottage.

A mere 11 minutes later, Harry Wilson's mazy run into the box ended with the ball running loose and sitting up invitingly for Cairney.

Showing no signs of rustiness or hesitancy whatsoever, TC took the opportunity to smash an unstoppable volley into the top corner. He could not have caught it sweeter, leaving the goalkeeper clutching at air.

It immediately became apparent what it meant to Cairney, with emotion getting the better of him amidst the celebrations – and understandably so.

With the rain pouring down in SW6, it was like a scene straight out of a rom-com.

TC's name often crops up near the top of the results for this accolade, coming third and second in 2017, third last season, and winning the 2018 award.

There was a very even spreading in terms of voting for our Goal of the Season this year, with 18.1 per cent enough to see the skipper take the trophy.

Neco Williams' brilliant dipping volley in Swansea came second (14.4%), while Aleksandar Mitrović's clinical finish at the end of a slick team move in the home meeting with the same opposition took third spot (13.1%).

Sheffield Wednesday seal second summer signing as ex-Fulham man David Stockdale completes move

Shot-stopper David Stockdale's signing comes just a day after Sheffield Wednesday finalised a deal to bring in Ben Heneghan from AFC Wimbledon on a free transfer

Sheffield Wednesday have made their second signing in 24 hours with the arrival of David Stockdale. The experienced shot-stopper will officially join the Owls on July 1 following the expiry of his Wycombe Wanderers contract.

Yorkshire Live exclusively revealed that Wednesday were in talks in to sign Stockdale last week. Although the Chairboys offered Stockdale a new deal, the lure of a move back to Yorkshire proved too difficult for the 36-year-old to refuse.

After agreeing personal terms with the Owls, Leeds-born Stockdale underwent his medical this week. His impending arrival follows swiftly on from defender Ben Heneghan, which was announced yesterday afternoon. As is Wednesday's policy, the club have not divulged the length of Stockdale's contract.

Stockdale, who won the League One golden glove last season as the Chairboys reached the play-off final, strengthens Wednesday's options in the goalkeeping department. He is expected to challenge Cameron Dawson for the No 1 spot next season.

It remains a mystery whether Joe Wildsmith will pen a new contract and extend his Owls stay. Wildsmith largely provided back up to Bailey Peacock-Farrell last season.

Stockdale represents a solid piece of business from the Owls. He played every League One match for Wycombe last season, racking up 18 clean sheets in the process.

The former Fulham, Birmingham City and Brighton Hove Albion goalkeeper has made over 440 club appearances during his 19-year playing career. Wednesday will be the 17th club Stockdale has played for and he will be looking to add to his 132 shut-outs.

Stockdale has played at every level of English football from the Premier League to the National League. Regarded as a big personality on and off the pitch, Stockdale has two promotions to the top flight on his CV with Hull (2013) and Brighton (2017). He also helped Wycombe to promotion to the Championship two years ago.

Stockdale was included in a number of England squads under Fabio Capello back in 2011, although he was never capped by his country.

What is the latest with Neco Williams' situation amid Nottingham Forest and Fulham interest in Liverpool player?

Nottingham Forest fans continue to revel in the club's promotion to the Premier League.

After 23 long years in the EFL, Steve Cooper will lead Forest in the top-flight next season.

The fixture release is just around the corner, which will kickstart the countdown to the campaign.

However, for Forest, there's plenty of work to do shaping a competitive squad, after a good number of the promotion-winning team departed at the end of the season as their loans expired.

Included in that was impressive right wing-back, Djed Spence, who is widely expected to join Tottenham.

For Cooper, then, focus will be on alternatives on the right and brings us to Neco Williams of Liverpool.

Williams, 21, would be a strong replacement for Spence and has showcased his ability in the Championship over the last six months, making 14 appearances and notching four goal involvements for Fulham.

However, Football League World understands that Forest are currently tracking behind Fulham in the race to sign Williams from Liverpool.

There is a genuine interest in the Welsh international from Forest, but as things stand, it's our understanding that Fulham are the favourites to land his signature after such an impressive loan with Marco Silva.

If that plays out, it's another early blow for Forest in what's going to be a crucial transfer window for the club.

Promotion to the Premier League is sweet and breeds natural excitement, yet if Forest are going to be competitive, they have to recruit well.

Before long, they will be working against the clock.

PL bound side favourites to secure the services of 21-year-old Liverpool ace

Transfer News: Fulham lead the race to sign Liverpool star Neco Williams

According to Football League World (h/t Liverpool.com), Fulham have placed themselves in the lead of this race to sign Liverpool star Neco Williams in the summer transfer window. A return to Craven Cottage could be on the cards since he was with them on loan in the previous season.

Williams is expected to leave this summer with his future seemingly looking likely to be away from Anfield ahead of the next season. The Cottagers are interested in signing permanently after his impressive loan spell with them in the 2021-22 campaign.

After all, the Welsh international did play a major role in helping Marco Silva's side achieve their promotion into the Premier League. Williams had garnered two goals and assists each to his name from 14 matches in the Championship, having joined them back in January.

Best for Liverpool?

The 21-year-old's potential sale would benefit all the parties involved, looking at the current circumstances. Silva's team and Williams would reunite with each other, and both of them enjoyed great success in the short spell the youngster had with them.

As for the Reds, they are edging closer to signing Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay which means that he will probably be the backup option to Trent Alexander-Arnold. In such a case, there is no reason to keep hold of Williams beyond this summer.

Williams has attracted attention from other clubs as well, with Nottingham Forest being recently linked with a move for the full-back. That would certainly help with our case as it would give us the leeway to demand a solid price tag for the young prospect.

However, since Fulham are the frontrunners in securing Williams' services, let's hope to see a move being facilitated shortly. After all, that will certainly help in our attempt to sign Ramsay as the money raised from Williams' sale can be used to assist in our approach.

The supporters will hope that the Merseysiders can raise a decent amount from Williams' transfer soon enough. Whether that will happen or not, though, would need to be seen in the coming weeks.

Arthur Masuaku could be leaving West Ham

Arthur Masuaku could be set for a move away from West Ham United this summer, with Fulham linked with a move for the Congolese left-back.

That is according to EXWHUemployee, who was speaking on The West Ham Way Podcast about the Irons' potential transfer business this summer.

The £4.5m-rated man joined the Hammers in 2016 from Olympiakos for a fee thought to be in the region of £6m.

But Ex believes that now might be the time when the 12-time DR Congo international moves on.

"In terms of Masuaku, [there is] interest from Fulham there," said Ex on The West Ham Way Podcast.

"The club have said that he can go if he gets the right club.

"So, Fulham – with the former manager [Marco Silva] who has worked with him before – are looking to maybe conclude that deal."

Our thoughts on Ex's comments

It will come as no shock that the 28-year-old will potentially be leaving the East London club this summer.

David Moyes once labelled his actions as "despicable" following an FA Cup defeat to Wigan Athletic in 2018.

The 5 foot 10 full-back has only made 21 first-team appearances this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that Moyes may not particularly trust the former Olympiakos man to produce on a regular basis.

In fact, he has only played a total of 650 minutes in the Premier League this season according to FBref, further proving that his time at the London Stadium could well be limited if the right offer comes in for him.

His performances in the Premier League last season have earned him a SofaScore rating of 6.78, suggesting that his performances could be regarded as inconsistent at best in the limited time he has had on the pitch.

We believe that it would be in both Masuaku and West Ham's best interests if both parties were to part ways, with the Congolese left-back in need of a fresh start somewhere else, and the Irons in need of revenue to fund more incoming transfers this summer.

Journalist names three Premier League clubs interested in Joe Rodon this summer

According to journalist Ekren Konur, Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Wolves have expressed an interest in signing Joe Rodon this summer.

Rodon might have already played his final game for Tottenham, with reports indicating that he could depart the club this summer in search of regular game time (The Evening Standard).

Football Insider even asserted previously that the former Swansea man had '100 per cent' made up his mind to leave the Lilywhites after being frustrated by the lack of opportunities.

The 24-year-old's stock has only gone up over the last few weeks in light of his impressive showings for Wales, with the centre-back helping Robert Page's men qualify for the World Cup and putting in solid displays in the Nations League.

Football.London's Alasdair Gold revealed last week that interest in the centre-back was building.

Konnur has now taken to social media to state that newly promoted duo Fulham and Forest are both keen on snapping up Rodon, with Wolves joining the two clubs in the race for the Spurs man.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think we have seen enough of Rodon to know whether he is good enough for this level. However, the fact that three different managers in Mourinho, Nuno and Conte have overlooked the 24-year-old suggests that he has some obvious flaws in his game.

Fulham Stadium Plan Throws Boat Race Future Into Doubt

The MP for Putney, Fleur Anderson, has warned that Fulham FC's planned construction of a pier into the Thames risks putting the Oxford Cambridge Boat Race and all watersports on the river in doubt.

The proposal forms part of Fulham Stadium's redevelopment plans, which has been ongoing for the past three years. They have seen the demolition and reconstruction of the riverside stand, downstream from Putney Bridge, and also include the redevelopment of the area and the new passenger pier which would be used to transport fans to and from the ground.  The expansion would see the capacity of the ground increase from 25 700 to 29 600 and has already cost over £90 million. The planning application for the pier is yet to be submitted to Hammersmith and Fulham Borough council.

Last year saw the Boat Race held in its traditional location between Putney and Mortlake, after a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. The event was cancelled altogether in 2020, and held in Cambridgeshire in 2021 before a return to Putney this year, which saw Oxford win the men's event for the first time since 2017 and Cambridge win the Women's event in a record time.

The boat race was first held between the two universities in 1829 and has been an annual occasion ever since 1856 save for during both world wars.  A women's event was introduced in 1927 and in 2018 the two races were held on the same course as part of the same event for the first time.

As well as the impact on the boat race, Ms Anderson sought to highlight the impact of the construction on the local community.  The clipper pier could make all watersports, including rowing and sailing, impossible.

The Labour MP said: "The future of Putney Boat Race on the Thames and all sport and all the river clubs on Putney embankment are begin put at risk by a proposal by Fulham Football Club to build an 80-metre pier out into the river which will have then a clipper ferry stop, which if it runs will make sport, rowing and sailing too dangerous on the river, especially for all the young people who use it.

"There are about 4,000 members across 41 clubs along the river who will be impacted, those 4,000 members use this stretch of the river on average about twice a week.

"As well as 30,000 participants in rowing races in the first quarter of the year, there are approximately 1,400 children from clubs and rowing centres near the Fulham Football Club and that part of the river who use it several times a week."

A public petition over the matter has attracted 12,000 signatures so far in an attempt to put a stop to the plans after backing from both British Rowing and The Boat Race.

The campaign has also attracted cross-party support across the floor of the commons. Conservative MP for Beckenham Bob Stuart said:  "I can't see how an 80-metre pier into the Thames can actually be allowed to happen in planning terms because it is so much used there, particularly rowing. It is wonderful."

As for the football club, they have denied the claims, responding by saying that the comments from Anderson are "inaccurate and wrong".  In an official statement, they said: "For clarity, there is no proposal to extend a pontoon 80 metres across the Thames (nor has there ever been) and there is absolutely no risk whatsoever to the boat race. Fulham's design would, in addition to creating substantial and obvious benefits to the local community, focus on providing a wonderful viewing platform which would enhance the boat race atmosphere, experience and accessibility."

Anderson brought her comments to a close by saying that she was "incredulous" at the plans and asking the DCMS to review the proposals so that "the future of the boat race will be secured".
