Report: Liverpool now want to send 'machine' out on loan rather than chase £15m transfer

Liverpool have decided against selling Neco Williams this summer, according to reports. The youngster was previously rated at £15m.

This comes from the Mirror. They claim that Liverpool are ready to send Neco Williams out on loan again next season and have let him know.

Two Premier League sides are already looking to bring him in, both recently promoted. The first is Fulham, where Williams spent the second half of last season on loan. Nottingham Forest are the other after earning their place in the Premier League via the PlayOffs.

This would mean passing up on the chance to sell Williams, of course. Reports previously indicated that Liverpool saw £15m in the full-back, should he move on this summer.

There had also been reports, such as from the Liverpool Echo, that the Reds weren't entirely sure they wanted to sell, though. It now appears that they've chosen that direction and will keep Williams on the books.

Liverpool opt against selling Neco Williams

We think this is the right choice and said as much during the week. If Williams is worth £15m after solid form in the Championship for six months, his value could skyrocket with a full campaign on loan in the Premier League.

Thus sending him to Fulham or Nottingham Forest makes a lot of sense to us. The two sides would use him all season long and we know Williams can compete at the top level. He's done it in the Champions League and for Wales.

At the very least, Liverpool would be able to move him on for even more in 2023. At the most, Williams could show the kind of form that earns him a place in the first-team squad going forward.

After all, he's a versatile full-back who can cover both flanks. Throw in his homegrown status and there's a lot of value for Liverpool. This is unquestionably the right decision to send him out on loan.

Transfer News: Premier League trio interested in Manchester United outcast

Transfer News: Leeds, Southampton, and Fulham interested in Manchester United defender Phil Jones

According to @MARCAinENGLISH as tweeted by UnitedStandMUFC on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), Southampton, Fulham and Leeds United are interested in signing Manchester United outcast defender Phil Jones.

Jones joined the Red Devils from Blackburn Rovers in 2011 and has since then spent 11 years affiliated with Man Utd. Highly rated during his initial years at the club, it is safe to say that things haven't panned out as expected.

The English centre-back played a game after 707 days this season against Wolves and to be fair to him, he had a good game. Regardless, the 30-year-old has played just four games in the Premier League this season and needs to move on to save his career.

Now that he is fit, Premier League clubs are showing interest in the centre-back with Southampton, Fulham and Leeds interested in the player.

A much-needed transfer?

It is almost impossible to imagine Phil Jones featuring in Erik ten Hag's plans next season and moving him on could be the best solution for Man Utd.

A career that promised to be a huge hit has tapered off quite drastically and injuries have not been kind to him at all. It has derailed him from becoming the player he was tipped to be but it may not be too late.

A move away from Old Trafford could do the world of good for the English defender. At 30, Jones still has time left to resurrect his faltering career and there are Premier League clubs willing to give the player a chance.

The former Blackburn man can offer a lot to mid-table Premier League teams and they would also give him the perfect launchpad to kickstart his career again. Man Utd will not lose much even if Phil Jones were to leave despite the fact that Eric Bailly hasn't been a very dependable option over the years.

But with ten Hag at the helm, it wouldn't be unrealistic to expect the Dutchman to bring in a new face or two in defence to really stamp his authority on the team. But then again, it remains to be seen if such a thing can happen this summer with midfield looking like an area that needs urgent reinforcements.

Fulham are hopeful of beating Wolves in the fight to land talented Portugal international Joao Palhinha after agreeing £15m fee with Sporting Lisbon as the newly-promoted side look to bolster their ranks

Fulham have agreed a £15million transfer with Sporting Lisbon for Joao Palhinha
Wolves remain in the fight to sign Palhinha as they look to bolster their midfield
Fulham have reportedly bid for Porto's former Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic

Fulham are hopeful of fending off rival interest from Wolves for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha after agreeing a £15million transfer. The 26-year-old is on holiday in Dubai but is due to travel to London once terms are in place, to undergo a medical.

The Portuguese midfielder played a key role in Sporting's second-placed league finish which grants the club another shot at Champions League football next season.

He featured in six of Sporting's eight Champions League games last season before eventually losing out to Manchester City in the Round of 16.

Palhinha made 27 appearances last term, notching three goals in the process and added to his tally of international caps which sees the midfielder reach 14 for the Selecao.

It now remains to be seen which of the two interested parties Palhinha opts to move to after the transfer was agreed with the Cottagers.

Sportsmail reported that Palhinha has shown interest in both proposals but it appears that the west London side have nudged ahead in the proceedings.

Wolves are expecting the departure of Ruben Neves this summer and Palhinha has been pinpointed by the club as an adequate replacement.

Meanwhile Fulham are preparing for their return to the Premier League and manager Marco Silva has been scouring the Portuguese market to help bolster his squad.

According to Record, Fulham have submitted a bid of around £16million for Porto midfielder Marko Grujic.

Serbian international Grujic was on the books at Liverpool between 2016-2021 but spent much of that time on loan before signing for the Portuguese champions last summer.

Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Soloman looks set to make a move to Craven Cottage with the Israeli international expected to seal a £7 million move.

Fulham want West Ham United defender Ryan Fredericks, cheaper alternative than Neco Williams

West Ham right-back Ryan Fredericks is wanted by London rivals Fulham, according to a report from The Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported in their print edition (19 June, page 147) that the Cottagers see Fredericks as a "cheaper alternative" than Neco Williams who is rated at £15 million by Liverpool.

Fredericks has other options, with The Mail on Sunday (June 12th, page 144) reporting that Middlesbrough are interested in taking him, while Bournemouth want him as well (The Sun, 15 June).

Makes sense

Fredericks is likely to leave the Hammers on a free transfer, and there is no shortage of admirers.

The right-back is also entering the latter stages of his career as he approaches 30 and the Hammers have made the right call by not offering him a new deal.

He dropped down the pecking order at the club behind Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson, and the natural conclusion was that he should be left out for the new season.

Of all the clubs, a move to Fulham should appeal to him.

He would continue to stay in London, while would still continue in the Premier League. Bournemouth is another fantastic option for him where he could reunite with Scott Parker.

The Cottagers are looking to add a right-back to their ranks, and have earmarked Williams for that role. However, Fredericks is not only more experienced than him but would also come as a free signing.

Promoted clubs: Fulham back with exciting attack

Adrian Clarke says Cottagers excel going forward but must get balance right to avoid past struggles

Adrian Clarke looks at key tactical elements of the three clubs joining the Premier League in 2022/23.

Fulham

Fulham return to the Premier League as an attack-minded and tactically stable team.

Marco Silva's side proved too potent for their Championship opponents last season, scoring an astonishing 106 goals in 46 matches.

Favouring a 4-2-3-1 formation in all but three matches, their tactical approach was built around creating a number of opportunities inside the final third.

Fulham were fast-starters, taking the lead in 71.7 per cent of their fixtures.

Top attacking stats in Championship

Team     Shots in box     Team     Conv. rate
FUL     504     FUL     18.9
WBA     445     NFO     17.9
COV     427     LUT     17.7

Led by their record-breaking 43-goal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, Fulham tormented defences in 2021/22.

Wingers Harry Wilson and Neeskens Kebano chipped in with 29 and 16 direct goal involvements respectively, while Fabio Carvalho also netted eight times and created a further eight from the No 10 role.

They will miss Carvalho's brilliance following the 19-year-old's transfer to Liverpool so Fulham will hope to replace his energy and guile this summer.

Thanks to their relentless pursuit of goals, Fulham fashioned 504 shots from inside the box last season, averaging around 11 per match.

Replicating that in the Premier League will not be possible, so there will be a reliance on clinical finishing.

No Championship team had a greater chance-conversion rate than Fulham's 18.9 per cent last season, so this is an area of strength.

They will also focus heavily on producing opportunities from corners and wide free-kicks. They scored 17 goals from set-pieces in 2021/22, the third highest in the division.

With Wilson's wonderful left foot, expect plenty of chances created from dead-balls.

Top passing stats in Championship

Team     build-up attacks     Team     10+ pass sequences
FUL     172     SWA     725
SWA     120     FUL     645
SHU     107     BOU     451
SWA     84     QPR     434
QPR     74     SHU     414

One of Fulham's key traits under Silva is pinning opponents back with controlled periods of possession.

Comfortable and patient on the ball, they produced 52 more build-up attacks than any other Championship side last term, and were behind only Swansea City for overall possession.

How much possession will they enjoy in the Premier League?

As a gauge, during the 2020/21 season, Fulham ranked 11th, with 49.4 per cent of the ball under Scott Parker. This was after averaging 61.6 per cent in the Championship promotion campaign that preceded it.

Last season they average 60.7 per cent of possession, so Fulham will likely opt for a balanced approach once again, with 50 per cent an achievable target.

With Mitrovic at his best when crosses are sent in, it is unlikely they will sit back and become counter-attacking specialists.

High tempo

Fulham's style is not one-dimensional under Silva, so they should cope well with the tactical adaptations required.

He encourages possession play, but also favours high-tempo football that sees his players press with great energy.

Fulham were very strong in this department last term, with only Coventry City winning the ball more.

Most shots/goals after high turnovers 21/22

Team     Shots     Goals
COV     71     6
FUL     66     9
BOU     59     6

Fulham's attacking prowess means they should carry a goal threat home and away in 2022/23.

Their main concern could be how they cope defensively.

Five Championship sides enjoyed more clean sheets than Fulham last term, who on occasion, looked vulnerable.

In home defeats by Huddersfield Town, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Coventry, they struggled to deal with opponents who closed them down inside their own half.

Having leaked 43 goals, almost one goal per match, Fulham may look to invest in several new defensive players.

The Cottagers have plenty of talent and a clearly defined style, but they must still recruit well, especially at the back, if they are to avoid another relegation battle.

£18m star could join Fulham next week, agrees four-year deal worth £8.3m

Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha will sign a four-year deal with Premier League newcomers Fulham and is due to head to England after his holiday, as reported by A Bola.

The unveiling of a 6ft 4ins Portuguese powerhouse, the report says, is only 'a matter of time'. Is that white smoke we can see, billowing out of Craven Cottage?

In perhaps their most ambitions and impressive transfer coup since the turn of the Century, Fulham are on the verge of signing a player who, during the last two seasons at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, has established himself as one of Europe's most reliable 'number sixes'.

Palhinha is not only an outstanding ball-winner, he is just as impressive in possession too. There's a reason why some at Wolves felt the former Braga loanee could help replace the masterful Ruben Neves at Molineux (The Sun).

Wolverhampton Wanderers were the clear frontrunners to secure Palhinha's signature until Fulham nipped in, sneaking past their top-flight rivals at the final corner. An £18 million transfer fee has been agreed, with the one-time Tottenham Hotspur target set to earn £40,000-a-week at Craven Cottage over the next four years.

That works out as an overall cost of around £8.3 million in wages.

Fulham on verge of sealing Joao Palhinha deal

According to A Bola, Palhinha is currently on holiday in the Maldives. Once he's finished sunning himself on the sands of the Indian Ocean, he will board a flight to England and put pen to paper with a club who cruised to the Championship title last season.

Palhinha could officially become a Fulham player as early as next week.

"Palhinha? The deal with Fulham is practically closed," Portuguese reporter and Sporting expert Nuno Dias tells CM Jornal.

Of course, Palhinha would not be the first marquee signing Fulham have made following promotion. Things didn't work out all that well for Jean-Michel Seri, Andre Franck Zambo Anguissa and co in the Premier League.

But, if he can adapt to a quicker, more physical game, Palhinha could be the difference between a relegation battle and an altogether more comfortable season at Craven Cottage.

West Ham United, Fulham in contact to sign Luca Pellegrini

Premier League sides West Ham United and Fulham have reportedly made contact with Juventus left-back Luca Pellegrini's entourage.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tutto Mercato Web), Juventus' 23-year-old left-back Luca Pellegrini is set to leave the club this summer. He is attracting interest from the Premier League, with both West Ham United and Fulham showing interest.

Pellegrini was bought by Juventus from AS Roma in 2019 but he has since failed to get a consistent run of games for the club. The full-back spent two loan spells at Cagliari and Genoa before being named in the Juventus first-team for the 2021/22 season.

The Italy international was limited to sporadic appearances, however, playing 21 matches for the club across competitions. He was also linked with a January move, with West Ham United said to be showing interest. But he ultimately stayed put to finish the season with the Bianconeri.

Even though Pellegrini still has three years left on his contract with the club, he now looks set for an exit. West Ham United, who had been showing interest in him from last year, have now re-entered the market for the former AS Roma full-back again.

David Moyes currently has Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Creswell as his two left-back options and wants to add reinforcements in the department. West Ham finished seventh in the recently-concluded Premier League season, qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League and need depth in the squad to compete strongly on all fronts.

With there being a likelihood of Masuaku being sold, West Ham will need new personnel in the left-back position, making Pellegrini a viable target. However, they will face competition from Fulham for the Juventus defender.

Fulham recently gained promotion to the Premier League after finishing atop the Championship table. They are eager to strengthen multiple positions to prolong their stay in the English top-flight, with a goalkeeper, an attacker and a full-back on their wishlist.

Pellegrini would join Antonee Robinson and Joe Bryan as left-backs at Fulham should he make the move to Craven Cottage. The newly-promoted side are also reportedly looking at FC Porto full-back Zaidu Sanusi as a target, apart from Pellegrini. With both West Ham United and Fulham in contact with Pellegrini's representatives, it remains to be seen where he ends up this summer.

Fulham close in on Joao Palhinha capture

Fulham are closing in on Joao Palhinha on a four-year deal from Sporting CP, with Wolves reportedly out of the race for the midfielder.

Fulham could be on the verge of signing their top midfield target Joao Palinha from Sporting CP, which according to A Bola (via Sport Witness), will be on a four-year deal. The midfielder was also on Wolves' radar, but the Midlands club have bowed out of the race.

Joao Palhinha is reportedly inching closer to joining a Premier League side, with the 26-year-old midfielder pencilled in to join Fulham in the coming days. The London side are on the verge of agreeing on a deal with Sporting CP for the Portugal international.

The midfielder has been on the radars of multiple Premier League sides, including Wolves, who have seemingly backed out of the chase. Their inability to sell Ruben Neves is directly linked with Bruno Lage's side calling off their pursuit of the Sporting midfielder.

That has left Fulham with a clear path to make their move, and the Cottagers are seemingly close to agreeing on a deal with the Portuguese side. The report insists a €20 million deal is close to being finalised between the two clubs, with Palhinha reportedly agreeing to a salary worth €2.5 million per season.

Palhinha has been a strong player for Sporting in recent seasons. Having played a key role in their title triumph in 2020/21, he made 38 appearances across all competitions in the last season. His abilities in holding things together in midfield are deeply valued by those interested in his services.

Everton and Tottenham were keen on the midfielder at one stage, but Wolves seemingly took centre-stage as they looked for a replacement for Neves. However, as things stand, Lage's side are out of the running, and Fulham are the frontrunners for his signature.

The Cottagers were on course to hijack a deal and have now been successful in their endeavours. They are on the verge of bringing the midfielder to the Premier League to help Marco Silva help keep the side afloat in the top tier and survive the relegation battle.

Palhinha brings experience with him and can prove to be a good asset for the Cottagers. His reported price tag of €20 million could be considered a steal for a 26-year-old with five years left on his Sporting contract. Fulham could create a good base with Palhinha in midfield, and more signings are expected after the Portuguese star arrives.

Fulham fighting West Ham for Pellegrini

Fulham and West Ham are locked in a tense battle to sign Italian international full back Luca Pellegrini, who is 'destined to leave Juventus this summer, according to reports from Italy this weekend.

Saturday's Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that the left back's agent Vincenzo Raiola was holding discussions with the two Premier League sides about a potential move to London. The 23 year-old has struggled to settle in Turin since signing from Roma in 2019, taking in loan spells at Caligari and Genoa, before making just appearances for the Bianconeri last season.

Pellegrini is keen to play regular football and Juventus are ready to try and cash in on the attacking left back. West Ham, who had been linked with a move last January, have reignited their interest as David Moyes considers selling Arthur Masuaku. Fulham, previously mentioned as possible Masuaku suitors, are also looking at strengthening at left back – with Alex Moreno and Zaidu Sanusi having been reportedly high on the Whites' target list.

Transfer News: Liverpool unwilling to loan out in-demand youngster again

Transfer News: Liverpool don't want to loan out Neco Williams after Calvin Ramsay confirmation

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are now opposed to sending Neco Williams out on loan. The Welsh defender was sent to Fulham on a temporary basis in the latest season.

And it was thought that the 21-year-old could be sent out on a temporary move once again this campaign with the FIFA World Cup in Qatar getting closer by the day. But that stance has seemingly changed.

The Reds now want a permanent move for Neco, who they value at around £15million. Premier League new-boys Fulham and Nottingham Forest are both interested in his services.

Such a move would make sense. It is clear that the LFC academy graduate isn't very happy with being backup to Trent Alexander-Arnold, given his loan spell last season.

Neco on his way out?

He did enjoy minutes with the Cottagers and once a player gets a taste of regular first-team football, it is difficult to start warming the bench once again. And perhaps a move away from Anfield would be best for him.

Trent does not seem like slowing down anytime soon. He will only get better with time and it is clear how central he is to Jurgen Klopp's plans.

Any fee that we may get for Williams will then go a long way in balancing our books this season. The Reds have already signed Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, and Calvin Ramsay.

We have been saying that gaining automatic promotion at an early stage would give us a lead in the summer transfer window, particularly over the club that gained promotion by the play offs.

Right now Forrest seem to be level with us in the race for new players and it even looks as if they could just snatch a player that we have  lined up.

That early promotion is not counting for much.

How on earth do you know what FFC and Forrest have done to this point, or how much ground respective club has covered overall in their summer transfer projects? "Right now" is not important, because it is not even pre-season for a while yet.

We do know that Fulham have had several more weeks to act with certainty, as it is a matter of fact when respective club sealed promotion.

It is however your choice to assume that everyone sat on their hands waiting for Forrest to catch up, if that is what you are assuming (based on your posts it looks that way to me). As for the gossip, there seems to be a lot of gossip on us being very close to several high profile signings, which if true would mean that we would have gotten a great and fast start to the window. But sure, if we ignore everything positive and focus on the negative it is looking really gloomy.

Think that the club TK led by  Silva have been hard at it and I am certainly a lot happier than I have been in the past with Parker and slavisa as Silva I think has a plan to help us stay up whereas Parker didn't have also To had the plan when slavisa was here ,at that time TK was new to the job and think he has learnt over a few seasons.
But sitting on there hands no chance.
Also I never thought I would be protecting TK.lol

No I am not assuming that we have sat on our hands and done nothing but am finding it difficult to see where we have gained an advantage. Lets hope that three  or four key signings before the team depart to Portugal will take place and make everything as good as we are expecting.

Afraid I cannot forget recent pre season premier windows with us making bargain basement buys on window closing day.

Thanks to whitejc for the flow of information as ever.

I would suggest those that quickly become anxious about the time taken to get deals done include the same people who believe good starts in the PL are de rigueur for providing a better chance of avoiding another calamity.  On past form there is a case, but we have a different head coach and, therefore, a healthier Club spirit this time around than either of the last two drops.  FWIIW if the delay of the first incoming is for the right reasons then surely it is to be welcomed rather than feared.

I habitually avoid all speculation, a mood formed over the lifetime of loving FFC.  Marco Silva's team make an attractive group for prospective signings, much more so if real care is taken in recruitment activity that includes everyone who needs to be included.

I believe we will have the signings we need before our K.O. for season 2022/23 and perhaps some useful additions later on.  I am looking forward to something quite different by way of problem solving this time around.
