Wolves transfer news: Joao Palhinha expected to sign for Fulham this week

Joao Palhinha is reportedly expected to sign for Fulham this week and leave Wolves in the lurch.

According to a new report from O Jogo this morning, the Sporting CP midfielder is set to join the newly promoted Premier League side ahead of Wanderers.

Wolves have chased Palhinha for a long time.

But it seems the club will now lose out, with the Cottagers having stole in. It is thought he will sign a four or five-year deal.

Palhinha had wanted to get things sorted before he went on holiday.

But Fulham’s entry into the race complicated things.

It is stated that Wolves have not given up on the 26-year-old, but the suggestion is that the club are lagging behind Fulham and are set to lose out.

It is thought Sporting have accepted their proposal of £17 million, and the player will earn around £41,000-a-week which is more than double what he gets with Sporting.

Apparently, Palhinha chose to green light a move to Fulham because they were able to quickly reach an understanding with Sporting and overtake Wolves in the race.

Wolves look to have failed in Joao Palhinha pursuit, with midfielder set to complete Fulham move this week

It is looking as though Wolves have failed in their mission to sign Palhinha, after all the rumours.

There have been lots of twists and turns and maybe there could still be a couple more.

But the indications over the past couple of weeks have generally been that Fulham are going to steal him.

If that does happen, then Fosun have serious questions to answer. They will need to respond in a big way, because supporters are rapidly losing faith in their suitability to take the club forwards.

Perhaps Wolves will move for Al-Musrati as an alternative, as was suggested last week.

Agent has ‘open talks’ in place with West Ham and Fulham – Defender ‘destined to leave’

Following the untimely death of Mino Raiola on April 30th, the vast majority of his clients have been passed along to members of his family and agency.

One of those will have been Luca Pellegrini, currently at Juventus, where he made 21 appearances in all competitions last season.

That, however, hasn’t been enough to convince Max Allegri, who is happy to do without him, which could benefit West Ham United or Fulham.

This is because both the Hammers and the Cottagers are interested in the player, according to Gazzetta dello Sport over the weekend.

The newspaper claim the left-back, a position both West Ham and Fulham seem keen to bolster this summer, is ‘destined to leave’ Turin this summer.

In order to achieve that, Vincenzo Raiola, Mino’s nephew, ‘is trying to bring an offer’, with ‘open talks’ in place with the two London clubs.

There’s no price mentioned, but with Juventus seemingly keen to get rid, we doubt West Ham or Fulham would have to pay over the odds for Pellegrini.

Chesterfield show interest in former Fulham defender
Chesterfield are thought to be showing interest in Maidenhead United full-back Ryheem Sheckleford.

The 25-year-old right-back is available on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer.

It is understood that the Magpies would have liked to have kept the former Fulham youngster but he has decided not to sign a new deal.

Sheckleford made 27 appearances for Alan Devonshire’s men last season and 85 overall since signing in August 2018.

Ryheem Sheckleford pictured playing for Fulham's under-18s.

The defender helped Fulham reach the FA Youth Cup final in 2014 and has had a loan spell at Wealdstone before signing for Maidenhead.

Sheckleford left Fulham in May 2017.

He is described as an athletic and attack-minded full-back who can also play in midfield.

Sheckleford would fit the type of profile that manager Paul Cook wants to bring to the club and has done so already in Branden Horton, 21, Bailey Clements, 21, Joe Cook, 22 and Darren Oldaker, 23.

Cook also wants to add some Football League experience to the ranks, with former Spireite Ollie Banks, 29, currently at Barrow, a target.

Chesterfield return to pre-season training in the first week of July, ahead of the new campaign starting on August 6.

Fulham have ‘set their sights’ on forward – Club would ‘listen’ if €20m+ offer was made

Loaned to Bologna for the season from Atalanta, Musa Barrow scored six goals and assisted another seven in 34 Serie A appearances.

The winger, who can also play through the middle, was then bought for a fee nearing £14m, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be staying put this summer, with Fulham reportedly interested.

Managed by Marco Silva, the Cottagers were promoted back to the Premier League, and now they are once again preparing for a tough campaign in England’s elite.

The squad will need to be revamped, which is where Barrow seems to come in, as Gazzetta dello Sport look where The Gambia international could end up.

It’s said he is now ‘on Fulham’s radar’, who have ‘set their sights’ on the forward.

While he is not a player Bologna are actively looking to sell, it’s pointed out that ‘if an offer of more than €20m were to arrive from London, it’s likely that the rossoblù executives would listen’.

With Fulham normally rather free spending on their returns to the Premier League, that’s certainly a fee history suggests they can afford, but whether they end up pulling the trigger remains to be seen.

Player set to sign contract with Fulham in coming days – Set to double his wages

With João Palhinha’s transfer from Sporting to Fulham very close to being finalised, newspaper O Jogo today features a few more details about this move.

The outlet claims the agreement is ‘practically’ sealed and should be completed this week, with the player signing a four or five-year deal.

The player is currently on holiday, and wanted to get it all sorted before leaving Lisbon, but the battle between Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers ended up delaying the process.

O Jogo writes that Wolves haven’t given up on the signing yet, but they couldn’t reach a deal with Sporting, who have already accepted a €20m offer from the Cottagers.

According to the report, Palhinha was making just over €1m per season at Sporting, and is now set to make around €2.5m per year in London.

It’s said the player ‘hesitated’ when making his choice, as he was being pressured by managers Bruno Lage and Marco Silva, and ended up accepting a move to Fulham because of the quick deal reached between the Whites and Sporting.

Promoted clubs: Wilson to deliver for Fulham again

Adrian Clarke explains why the winger's quality crosses can help Mitrovic thrive in the Premier League

Adrian Clarke looks at key tactical elements of the three clubs joining the Premier League in 2022/23, with Harry Wilson tipped to bring the best out of Aleksandar Mitrovic at Fulham.

Harry Wilson

Wilson has formed a productive partnership with Mitrovic.

The Wales winger supplied 10 assists for the Serb last season, using his left foot to send in excellent deliveries from open play and set-pieces.

It was the most successful combination between two players in the Championship.

Most chances created in 2021/22
Player     Team     Total chances     Chances from open play
Wilson     FUL     102     80
Swift     RDG     102     64
Thomas     HUD     97     45
Wallace     MIL     94     61
Garner     NFO     88     42

Wilson made a total of 102 key passes, sharing top spot in the division with Reading's John Swift.

Coventry City’s Callum O’Hare (86) was the only player to carve out more chances in open play than Wilson.

It is expected that Wilson will line up on the right of an attacking midfield trio, cutting inside to cause problems.

He is not a prolific crosser, aiming 80 open-play crosses into the area last season, compared with 94 shots attempted.

For this reason, he can also be deployed in a roaming No 10 role.

Wilson's returns by season
Season     Club      Goals     Assists     Division
17/18     HUL      7     3     Champ
18/19     DER      16     4     Champ
19/20     BOU      7     0     PL
20/21     CAR      7     11     Champ
21/22     FUL      10     19     Champ

Wilson enjoyed the season of his career so far in 2021/22.

Making Craven Cottage his permanent home after a successful spell on loan from Liverpool, he stepped up and delivered in Fulham's title-winning campaign.

His 29 direct goal involvements comfortably bettered his previous best of 20, under Frank Lampard while on loan at Derby County.

Wilson did score seven goals in his only Premier League season to date, excelling during a spell for Eddie Howe’s AFC Bournemouth in 2019/20, and he will target even more than that on his return.

If Wilson and Mitrovic can combine in similar fashion on the Premier League stage, it will significantly boost Fulham's hopes of a longer stay in the competition.

Aleksandar Mitrovic (FUL)

Mitrovic smashed the Championship goalscoring record with 43 goals last season.

The 27-year-old was under-used by Scott Parker in 2020/21, starting just 13 Premier League matches and scoring only three times during a frustrating relegation campaign.

Rejuvenated under Marco Silva, Mitrovic returns to the top flight brimming with confidence and, fitness permitting, he will be a more prominent figure this time around.

Type of goals
Option     Goals     Area     Goals
Right foot     22     Inside     43
Left foot     9     Outside     0
Header     12

Every goal he scored last term came from inside the 18-yard box.

Fulham’s dominance of possession and territory helped their most creative players supply the striker with terrific service.

By frequently putting the ball into the area, Mitrovic used his physical strength and finishing prowess quite brilliantly to bully opposition defenders.

Most headed shots 2021/22
Player        Shots
Aleksandar Mitrovic        74
Jake Cooper        35
Dominic Solanke        32
Kyle Bartley        31

His 12 headed goals were seven more than any other player in the Championship, but he also displayed real quality with both feet when opportunities arrived.

Mitrovic's 26.54 per cent conversion rate highlighted his clinical finishing.

The big issue facing Fulham and Mitrovic next season, will be their ability to get into those advanced positions on a regular basis.

If they struggle to have possession in advanced areas, his impact could be affected.

Passes in opposition half
Forward        Succ.passes
Aleksandar Mitrovic        542
Chris Martin        533
Viktor Gyokeres        501
Joel Piroe        449
Brennan Johnson        425

Mitrovic's hold-up play will be integral to Fulham’s hopes of progressing higher up.

No other Championship striker made a greater number of successful passes inside the opposition half last season.

Silva's side rely heavily on the Serbia striker, who has recorded 24 Premier League goals for Fulham and former club Newcastle United, at a rate of one every 286.6 minutes.

Various offers have arrived’ – Fulham and Leicester place bids for ‘unsellable’ 20-year-old

Starting eight of the last 13 games for AS Roma in the final stretch of the season, Nicola Zalewski showed exactly why José Mourinho believes in him.

The 20-year-old, born in Italy but who already boasts five Poland caps, has caught the eye with his performances, which is why both Fulham and Leicester City came knocking for him recently.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who claim the Cottagers and the Foxes are but two of many clubs to have taken an interest in the wing-back, capable of playing on either side of a back three.

The newspaper state that ‘in the past few days, various offers have arrived’ for the Poland international from the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Monaco and the two Premier League clubs, Fulham and Leicester.

The latter were said to have noticed him during the Conference League semi-finals, where Zalewski even picked up an assist in the first leg.

Still, while AS Roma ‘could cash in €15m from his sale, they consider him unsellable’, meaning that neither Leicester nor Fulham stand a chance at this moment in time.

Liverpool set Neco Williams price tag as Nottingham Forest could hold transfer advantage over Fulham

Wales full-back Neco Williams is set to leave Anfield this summer with competition fierce at Anfield

Liverpool have set the price for Wales international Neco WIlliams at £15million this summer - with Nottingham Forest and Fulham battling it out to sign the full-back.

Williams' future at Anfield looks bleak after Reds boss Jurgen Klopp stumped up £6.5million to bring teengaer Calvin Ramsey to Merseyside last week. The 18-year-old from Aberdeen is set to provide first-choice right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold with competition next season, with Williams now deemed surplus to requirements.

The Telegraph report Liverpool are in no mood to listen to loan offers for Williams and are only prepared to sanction a permanent move for the 22-year-old.

Williams spent a successful second half of last season on loan with the Cottagers, helping them to Premier League promotion. Boss Marco Silva is keen to bring the Welshman back to west London next term but faces competition from Forest head coach Steve Cooper, who sees Williams as a "key target".

The Forest boss spent three years in Liverpool's academy system and knows Williams well from his time in the north west, which could put them at an advantage over their top-flight rivals,as well as Cooper's reputation for working with young players and getting the best out of them.

Williams is set to be included in Wales' squad for the World Cup in Qatar this November, with manager Rob Page wanting all his players to be getting regular game-time ahead of the tournament. A move to either the City Ground or Craven Cottage would likely provide him with that.

Southampton revive Neco Williams interest – but Fulham ‘favourites’

Neco Williams continues to attract suitors from the Premier League and Southampton are now reported to have revived their interest after last summer’s flirtation with a deal.

Despite some suggestions over the weekend that Liverpool would be open to another loan move for Williams, a permanent departure is still expected this summer.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a productive end to the 2021/22 season on loan with Fulham and that has seen the newly promoted side eager to retain his services, with Nottingham Forest similarly interested.

Liverpool are in the market for a deal in the region of £12-15 million, and now Southampton are the latest to have “approached” the club, according to Sky Sports.

The Saints have long been admirers of Williams having sought a loan move in January 2021 for the Welshman before reviving their interest last summer.

The cards did not fall to see Williams make a move to the south coast but renewed interest has seen them return to the fore as a potential destination for the defender.

But Fulham remain the “favourites” for Williams’ signature following his 15-game spell with the club earlier in the year as they secured promotion back to the Premier League.

A consistent position in the top flight will be the goal for Williams as he looks to push on in his development and keep his place in Wales’ side ahead of the World Cup in November.

“Right now, I just want to play football week in and week out,” Williams said back in April.

“I want to play as much as possible and gain as much experience as possible, and so far [Fulham loan] has definitely helped me.

“I want to be a Premier League player. For me, I think it’s the best and the toughest league in the world.

“And you always want to be playing against the best players in the world.”

Three teams in the race to sign £15m Liverpool star

Southampton have joined Fulham and Nottingham Forest in the race for Liverpool right-back Neco Williams who looks set to leave the Reds this summer.

This is according to Sky Sports, who reports that the Saints have approached the Merseyside club over a move but Fulham are still the favourites to sign the 21-year-old after the Welsh international helped the Cottagers to secure promotion to the Premier League last season whilst on loan.

Williams is said to have enjoyed his time with Fulham but now has options and will need to make a decision on his future soon as the right-back looks to kick on with his career after last season’s success.

Liverpool are reportedly asking for £15million from interested parties in order to part ways with the defender reports the Telegraph and the Reds are in no mood to listen to loan offers for Williams and are only prepared to sanction a permanent move for the 21-year-old.

Liverpool have already signed their replacement for the Welsh international in the form of Calvin Ramsay, who the Merseyside club announced on Sunday after paying £6.5million to Aberdeen for the 18-year-old reported Sky Sports. The right-back will join the Reds this summer and provide backup to Trent Alexander-Arnold during the upcoming season.

Williams would be a very good signing for any of the above clubs but which one the right-back chooses will be seen over the coming weeks.

Southampton make approach for £20m Liverpool defender wanted by Fulham and Nottingham Forest

Reports claim Southampton have made an enquiry to sign Liverpool right-back Neco Williams this summer but Fulham and Nottingham Forest are favourites in a transfer race for the Welsh international

Southampton have reportedly made an approach to sign Liverpool defender Neco Williams.

Sky Sports reports that Saints have made a "serious” enquiry for the right-back amid interest from other clubs. Dutch side PSV are said to have also made an approach to sign Williams on loan, with newly promoted sides Fulham and Nottingham Forest also interested.

The Cottagers are the frontrunners to sign the 21-year-old who spent last season on loan at Craven Cottage. Williams, who played 15 times for Fulham last term, recording two goals and two assists, is said to have enjoyed working under boss Marco Silva during their run to promotion from the Championship.

However, Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper spent three years working as Liverpool’s academy manager and knows Williams well. Forest are currently searching for a right-back as they look to replace Djed Spence, who returned to Middlesbrough following the end of his loan spell and is heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the Mirror, Liverpool are prepared to allow Williams to leave on loan next season in order to give him more game time ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year. Williams is expected to be part of Robert Page’s Wales squad for the tournament.

The Reds could be open for a permanent move for the defender too, with Sky Sports claiming that they will be looking for a deal worth up to £20million.

Report: Newcastle are still monitoring 'extraordinary' free agent who nearly joined Fulham

Newcastle United are still monitoring Thomas Strakosha according to the Daily Mirror. The Albanian goalkeeper will become a free agent at the end of the month, with his Lazio contract due to expire.

He’s yet to find a new club, but did almost join Fulham. Chelsea are also reportedly interested..

The 27-year-old boasts ‘extraordinary athelticism’ (Lazio Press) according to former Lazio assistant manager Alberto Bollini. Also, he’s been playing for Abania’s national team since 2017, earning 18 caps so far.

Newcastle have been linked with Strakosha in the past – a couple of months ago they approached Lazio to sign him. This led to the Italian side considering giving him a new deal, but it never came to be.

Strakosha would improve Newcastle’s goalkeeping options if he joined

With Newcastle monitoring Strakosha this summer, it’s clear they want someone to challenge Martin Dubravka for the number one position.

The Slovakian has established himself as the man in between the sticks for the Toon. But at 33-years-old it’s unclear how long he can be called upon.

At 27-years-old the Albanian has time to break into the team should he sign. Furthermore, if Dubravka gets injured, he’d be great cover.

Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman could well leave this summer. Should Dubravaka stay as well as Mark Gillespie, the Magpies will need another keeper.

However, with Chelsea interest into Strakosha, it makes it a challenge for Newcastle. The prospect of Champions League football and opportunties to win trophies next season could lure him to London.

He would definetly be second fiddle for the Blues behind Edouard Mendy. But an opportunity to play for such a big club is an attractive prospect. Chelsea are the current Club World Championship holders and appeared in a number of finals in recent years. That would give them the edge over the Toon.

Newcastle aren’t at that stage quite yet. But they do have the wealth to become an attractive prospect on the same level as Chelsea in the coming years.

Signing the likes of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes is a great start. It will take some time but the Magpies can definetly get there.

Nick Pope is another attractive options for the Magpies

Nick Pope is another player the Magpies are interested in. With his Premier League experience and caps for England he’d also boost Newcastle’s goalkeeping options. If anything, that would make him more of an attractive prospect than Strakosha.

Signing players who know what the league is all about is a big advantage. Pope, you could argue, is more likely to pose a bigger challenge to Dubravka’s number one position.

With Burnley being relegated, they’ll need all the money than can get. Additonally, they’re currently in financial trouble following their relegation. With their higher earners, they’ll want to get them off the wage books as soon as possible.

The fee for the 30-year-old could be much less than if they had stayed in the Premier League. For a keeper who has played for England, that’s potentially a fantastic deal.

One issue, however, is Pope might be cautious to join if he thinks he’ll be second choice to Dubravka. It’s all well and good having competition, but Pope might want a guaranteed starting XI place elsewhere.

Whoever it is, Newcastle need to sign a goalkeeper should Darlow and or Woodman leave. Some fans would be happy with either signing. They both can challenge Dubravka and could be his successor down the line.

Eddie Howe had a selection dilemma in midfield this past season. There’s a chance if the right player is signed, he could have the same challenge in a totally different position. Pope would be the better pick, but Strakosha would also occupy that role very well.

Lee Ryder claims Fulham and Nottingham Forest are now looking to sign Newcastle defender

According to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles is ‘wanted’ by newly promoted sides Fulham and Nottingham Forest.

The 28-year-old has struggled for game time following the arrival of Dan Burn in January, with manager Eddie Howe preferring to play the former Brighton man and Fabian Schar in a back four.

Unfortunately for Lascelles, his limitations on the ball mean he doesn’t quite fit the system or style of play Howe is trying to enforce, so it’s hard to see the skipper getting back into our starting 11.

As a former Nottingham Forest man, a summer return to the City Ground could appeal to the Midlands born defender; who is valued at £9m by Transfermarkt.

He would add a lot of Premier League experience to a fairly inexperienced squad at Forest, with newly-promoted Fulham likely to be interested for the same reason after they shipped goals for fun during their last season in the top flight.

Due to having a lot of ageing defenders at the club – Fernandez, Clark, Burn and Schar are all in their 30s – Ryder claims it is very likely that we sign a younger centre-back who ‘won’t demand game-time’ this summer, suggesting Sven Botman may not be the only central defender we bring in should the big Dutchman end up at St James’ Park.

Liverpool Set Their Asking Price For Neco Williams

Liverpool have set the asking price for full-back Neco Williams, who is subject to interest from Nottingham Forest and Fulham.

The Welsh international’s future at Anfield has been thrown into doubt following the Reds’ acquisition of right-back Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen.

The Scotsman was signed last week for £6.5 million and is expected to deputise first-choice Trent Alexander-Arnold in this area.

As a result of this new recruit, the Merseyside club are willing to listen to offers for the highly in demand 22-year-old and the club value him at £15 million, according to The Telegraph.

Both Fulham and Nottingham Forest are said to be interested in signing Williams this summer.

Although both clubs have expressed interest in a loan move, Liverpool are only looking to sanction a permanent deal for the man deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield.

Williams spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Craven Cottage and thrived as Fulham were promoted back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

He made 15 appearances for the Cottagers across all competitions, scoring two goals.

This loan spell has ignited the newly promoted side’s interest in the player and they believe this may put them in a good place to win the race for Williams.

However, Forest boss Steve Cooper, who sees the Welshman as a “key target”, has worked with the player previously.

The former Swansea boss spent three years in Liverpool’s academy system and knows Williams well from his time in the North West.

Forest feel this could put them at an advantage over their top-flight rivals, as well as Cooper’s stellar reputation of developing young players.

Williams is on course to be included in Wales’ squad for the World Cup in Qatar this winter, but will be keen on getting regular game-time prior to the tournament to cement his place in the side.

Welsh boss Rob Page has warned his players that minutes on the page will play a significant role in his squad selection.

With game time at Anfield likely to be very restricted if he stays at Liverpool, expect imminent movements on this one.

Fulham enter race for Nicola Zalewski

Newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham have entered the race to sign AS Roma wing-back Nicola Zalewski.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Fulham have now joined the race for the signature of promising AS Roma wing-back Nicola Zalewski. The Cottagers aren’t the only side interested in the 20-year-old, however, with Leicester City also in the mix among other clubs.

Zalewski made his full debut under Jose Mourinho at Roma this season, starting nine league matches, mostly in the latter half of the campaign. The youngster impressed with his performances and the ability to play on either flank as a wing-back. Zalewski has also played five matches for the Poland national team.

Mourinho is banking on the 20-year-old Zalewski to come out good and is prepared to show faith in him in the upcoming campaign. But firstly Roma will have to knock back potential suitors, with Fulham in the mix to sign the young wing-back.

Fulham gained promotion to the Premier League after finishing atop the Championship table last season. They are keen to strengthen multiple positions to try and extend their stay in the English top-flight this time. Left-back is one of the areas they are prioritising.

The Cottagers have also been liked with moves for Juventus left-back Luca Pellegrini and FC Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi. They wish to keep their options open, as any club would, especially with such intense competition for every signing.

Leicester, meanwhile, have been monitoring Zalewski since their UEFA Europa Conference League semi-finals against Roma. The wing-back picked up an assist in the first leg as the Serie A side emerged victorious with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline en route to winning the tournament. Along with the two Premier League clubs, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco are also monitoring the 20-year-old’s situation.

Zalewski still has four years left on his contract with the Serie A club. The youngster made 23 senior appearances for Roma this season, and though the club rate him at €15 million, they consider him ‘unsellable’. This could essentially rule out any probable move to Fulham or the other interested parties, who will have to look at other options.

Neco Williams Rumoured to Stay in the Premier League with Fulham Return

Williams spent half of last season on loan at Fulham and the transfer chatter has them favorites to get him back.

After spending half of last season in the south with Fulham, Neco Williams has played well for Wales in World Cup qualifiers and Nations League outings. The young winger/right back was on loan last season, but Liverpool have said that they are not interested in further loan options for the winger.

With Calvin Ramsey incoming, Williams seems set to depart this summer — though the where is up in the air.

It has long been rumored that Fulham might be interested in a permanent move for the Welshmen following generally good reports on his loan spell, but they are not alone in their interest.

Recently both Southampton and PSV Eindhoven have contacted the Reds about the player, and Nottingham Forest, also newly promoted alongside Fulham, are in the race as well.

All options will see Williams playing top division football, though Championship-winners Fulham remain the favorites per the Liverpool Echo. As such, get ready to see Williams tested in the Premier League in the 2022/23 season.
