Fulham prepare £10m offer for Liverpool defender Neco Williams after loan spell at club last season... with promoted side having also held talks with ex-Everton full-back Djibril Sidibe

Neco Williams made 15 appearances for Fulham on loan from Liverpool last term
Wales star has seen competition increase at Reds after signing of Calvin Ramsay
Fulham have also spoken to Monaco and former Everton defender Djibril Sidibe

Fulham are preparing a £10million bid for Liverpool defender Neco Williams as they look to fend off Nottingham Forest and Southampton.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Craven Cottage and helped Marco Silva's men gain promotion back to the Premier League in his 15 loan appearances.

Williams - who made only one appearance in the Premier League for Jurgen Klopp's side last season- has since returned to Anfield, but has seen competition in his position increase after the Reds brought in Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen.

Forest, Southampton and PSV Eindhoven have also shown interest in the Wales international, with the newly-promoted Premier League sign looking to replace Djed Spence, the Middlesbrough full-back who is a target for Tottenham.

Fulham have also spoken to Monaco defender Djibril Sidibe, who is set to leave the Ligue 1 side at the end of this month.

The former France international worked with Portuguese boss Silva for a few months at Everton in 2019 before the latter's sacking.

And Silva is reportedly keen on a reunion, though the player is said to be wary of a Premier League return given his own lack of success at Goodison Park.

Fulham have also spoken to Monaco defender Djibril Sidibe, who will soon be out of contract

But Williams appears to be their main target, and he could be just one of a few Reds players whose departure from Anfield could be confirmed in the near future.

Sadio Mane has completed the first part of his Bayern Munich medical in Germany after jetting in from Majorca on Tuesday as the forward edges closer to a move to the Bundesliga giants.

Meanwhile, Monaco have agreed a £15.5m fee with the Anfield side for midfielder Takumi Minamino and will now hope to close a deal for the Japan international.

Divock Origi, Loris Karius and Ben Woodburn were among those named on a released list by Liverpool earlier this month too.

Newcastle United linked with fresh defender move as Sven Botman deal stalls

A new name has been linked with Newcastle United as efforts to sign Lille's Sven Botman stall.

Newcastle United are reportedly showing interest in Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo as a move for Sven Botman continues to stall.

Lille defender Botman remains the Magpies top defensive target but a deal has not advanced as hoped over the last seven to 10 days.

Indeed, there is still plenty of work to do with suggestions that the Ligue 1 side have moved the goalposts and are now holding out for a larger transfer fee.

While United are not ready to give up on the 22-year-old, it is understood they are exploring alternative targets.

According to the Daily Mirror, Fulham's Adarabioyo is among the names under consideration.

Adarabioyo joined the Cottagers in 2020 from Manchester City after succesful loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers.

The 24-year-old was a part of the Fulham side that was relegated from the Premier League but bounced back to play a leading role in their immediate return.

The towering centre-back, who is 6ft5in, was named in the EFL and PFA Team of the Year last season as Marco Silva lifted the Championship title.

In the opening 12 days of the summer transfer window, Newcastle have signed Matt Targett from Aston Villa, while a deal for Burnley's Nick Pope is believed to be close.

Meanwhile, Freddie Woodman looks set to end his nine-year association with Newcastle by joining Preston North End on a permanent basis.

The 24-year-old, who joined United's academy in 2013, spent the second half of last season on loan at AFC Bournemouth, though failed to make a league appearance.

Agent has 'started' contacts with Fulham and West Ham for €10m+ defender – Club want exit

Fulham and West Ham United have taken steps to sign Juventus defender Luca Pellegrini, according to claims coming out of Italy.

Operating mainly as a left-back last season, he made 21 appearances in all competitions, but failed to cement a regular place in Max Allegri's plans at the Turin club.

Due to this, the 23-year-old has been included in the Serie A side's transferable list for the summer window, according to Wednesday's edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, who go on to name both Fulham and West Ham as his suitors.

The Italy international's representative, Vincenzo Raiola, has already started to hold talks with several clubs for his client.

The newspaper only mentions the Cottagers and David Moyes' side as these are the two sides to have 'started' discussions with the full-back's representatives.

Gazzetta further add the Old Lady, who have placed him in the market, value him around €10-12m.

However, there's nothing to suggest if either West Ham or Fulham have made any direct contact with Juventus, and if they are willing to meet the Turin club's asking price for Pellegrini.

Who is Joao Palhinha?
Jack Stroudley takes a look at our latest widely reported rumour.

If you're a regular on Twitter then I'm sure you've heard the name Joao Palhinha crop up frequently over the past week, as Fulham and Wolves battle it out to obtain the Portuguese international's signature for the upcoming season.

If you believe the rumours and reports then it looks like we've been successful in signing the 26 year old from Sporting Lisbon for a fee rumoured to be around €18 million. There's a lot of hype surrounding Palhinha, so I thought I'd do a deep dive to see if the player lives up to it. So – who is Joao Palhinha?

The fact file
Joao spent the youth stages of his career playing across three different clubs, starting at Alta de Lisboa in 2008, making the switch to Sacavenese in 2009 and then settling at Sporting Lisbon in 2012. He made his professional debut aged 19 for Sporting Lisbon B, coming on as a late substitute in a 3-2 victory against Portimonense. Palhinha continued to play in the second division for the remainder of the 2013/14 season as well as 2014/15 before getting his first loan moves. Firstly to Primeira Liga side Moreirense and then to Belenenses.

Palhinha returned to Sporting Lisbon in 2017 and made his competitive debut for the club in 2017 during a 2-2 draw away at Maritimo. He was then sent out on loan for two seasons to Braga where he played 76 times for 'Os Arcebispos' and impressed with his defensive stats and improvement.

The 26-year-old returned for the beginning of the 2020/21 season and has been a prominent figure for Sporting Lisbon over the past two seasons. His club form was also recognised by his country as he was called up for the squad for the first time in March 2021. Since then, he's gone on to make 14 appearances and score two goals for Portugal.

A deeper dive
When we take a deeper dive into Joao Palhinha, is he worthy of the hype? He plays in a midfield two, he doesn't tend to venture far forward and plays more as a traditional 'six', sitting in front of the defenders breaking up play and then distributing the ball to slightly more creative players.

If he does sign for Fulham this would allow Harrison Reed to play more as an 'eight' and bring others into play (the potential signing of Al-Musrati from Braga would do the same but I'm not sure we'll spend big on two midfielders this transfer window).

Statistically, Palhinha is a very solid 'six' option, averaging 3.89 attempted tackles per 90 minutes and successfully completing three of those. Compared to the stats of defensive midfielders in the Premier League last season only Wilfred Ndidi and Christian Norgaard successfully completed more tackles per 90 than Palhinha. It's not just in tackles where Palhinha excels, he is also in the top 10% of midfielders for aeriel duels won, defensive duels per 90 minutes and fouls won per 90.

While the current Sporting Lisbon midfielder likes to sit back and let more creative players dictate play, he does also have the passing ability and range to impact a game when necessary. The twitter page @TotalAnalysis has created a nifty little pass map for his more attacking performances over the course of the season showing that Palhinha is comfortable picking up the ball and breaking opposition press. The pass maps show both a good ability at short range passing, but also a player who's more than capable of providing longer more diagonal passing to help break through defensive lines.

Courtesy of @TotalAnalysis on Twitter

Yes or no?
To conclude, do I think Fulham should be signing Joao Palhinha? Yes! He's an incredibly good player who will help us control the midfield (something we have sometimes struggled with in the Premier League) while also bringing the ball forward to help more attacking players create opportunities and hopefully goals.

At €18 million, the Portuguese international should be snapped up by most Premier League clubs and if we're the lucky ones to have a player of his calibre on our books then we should absolutely get this one over the line.

Brentford B set for Fulham Under-23s test in pre-season

Young Bees to face West London neighbours

Brentford B will face Fulham Under-23s in a pre-season fixture on Saturday 30 July in an 11am kick-off. The match will be played behind closed doors.

Neil MacFarlane's side will make the short journey to our West London neighbours in what will actually be the first time that the B Team has faced Fulham's Under-23s since the side's formation in 2016. The match represents another opportunity for the young players to build more minutes as they set about another B Team campaign of development.

Fulham's Under-23s had a successful 2021/22 campaign as they won the Premier League 2 Division Two league to gain promotion to Premier League 2 Division One. They will now compete against some of the country's most established youth sides in 2022/23 including the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Further details about match coverage of this fixture will be announced in due course.

The B Team have already had their opening pre-season fixture with Salisbury confirmed as they will head to Wiltshire on 9 July in a 3pm kick-off. You can buy tickets for that fixture by clicking here. Other pre-season fixture announcements regarding the B Team will be made in due course.

Player 'one step away' from agreement with Fulham – 'Would prefer' move to PL over Italy

Shakhtar Donetsk forward Manor Solomon is 'one step away' from an agreement to join Fulham this summer.

That's according to Calciomercato, who say Torino's chances of signing the player are 'diminishing' because of the Cottagers' advances.

According to their information, Solomon 'would prefer' to move to England than Italy, and that wish could soon be satisfied as he is one step away from an agreement with Fulham.

Torino have not given up hope of signing the player completely at this point, but they are already looking elsewhere at various alternatives.

Now there's no mention of Fulham striking a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk at this point, just that they are close to an agreement with the 22-year-old.

It means we'll have to temper our excitement at this potential signing for the Cottagers for the time being.

However, the fact that their main competition, Torino, are seemingly pulling back does give them a good chance of getting their man.

LOAN: Season-long deal secured

Highly-rated attack minded player joins the Blues

Carlisle United are delighted to confirm that Fulham midfielder Sonny Hilton has joined the club on a season-long loan deal ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Hilton, 21, joined Fulham as an under-16 player from Tranmere Rovers.

He has also represented England at under-16 level and captained Fulham's under-18 side as he continued his progression at his parent club.

He enjoyed a loan spell with Finnish side TPS Turku between April and July 2021 and returned to skipper the under-23 squad during the 2021/22 season.

Playing on the right of midfield, and in the middle, he was part of the team that clinched the Premier League 2 Division 2 title, securing their promotion in style.

Manager Paul Simpson said: "Sonny is a player I know from when I was working with the England under-19 set-up. He's a really talented footballer, but also a great lad as well.

"I enjoyed working with him and I heard he was available for a loan for the coming season a few weeks ago. He had a really successful season with the 23s at Fulham last time out and they feel he's ready.

"His numbers in terms of assists and goals were as good as it's been, and I want players like that in the club.

"I like young, hungry and talented footballers and, like I say, I want that type of player in the building."

"Everything about him points to a player who wants to kick on," he continued. "He was at Tranmere, in their Centre of Excellence, but the chance to go on trial in London didn't bother him at all.

"He went down to Fulham and he's been over to Finland, because he just wants to progress. He's been with Fulham for seven years now, and he had that loan spell abroad as well.

"A few injury problems meant that didn't go the way he would have wanted it to, but last season was a strong one for him, and we're hoping he can come here and kick on and add to what we already have in the squad.

"He played as a central midfielder for me with England in a tournament we had against France and Belgium, and he stood out against some really talented players.

"He can play wide on the right, or as a number 10, so he brings options and different capabilities. I'm really looking forward to working with him again."

"Another good thing is that he's a character," he concluded. "He's got a bit about him, he's not afraid to say his piece, and I am glad that we've got this one over the line.

"It's a great opportunity for him that I think he'll relish, so let's see what he can do at football league level."

Fulham in talks to sign Djibril Sidibe in Bosman deal

Fulham are keeping tabs on Djibril Sidibe's situation, with Marco Silva keen on reuniting with the defender he coached at Everton.

According to Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas, Fulham are eyeing a Bosman move for Djibril Sidibe in the coming days, as Marco Silva is keen to bring the player he once coached at Everton. The French full-back is mulling over the possibility of joining the Cottagers but has reservations after a dismal spell with the Toffees in 2019/20.

Djibril Sidibe was an integral part of Leonardo Jardim's high-flying Monaco side that won Ligue 1 title in 2017 and reached the Champions League semi-finals. However, after that successful campaign, the team was severely broken up, as many players, including Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko, left the French side.

Sidibe remained with the team as they gradually diminished in stature and departed on loan during the 2019/20 season. The full-back endured a difficult campaign at Everton, coached by Marco Silva then, as he struggled to find regular game-time at Goodison Park.

However, Silva is keen on reuniting with the Frenchman for the upcoming season and wants to sign the right-back at Fulham. The Cottagers gained promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship last season. And the manager is eager to bring quality names to his squad in the transfer window to avoid a relegation battle.

Silva has a few names on his shortlist for potential new right-backs. However, his priority target seems to be Neco Williams from Liverpool, with Fulham likely to make a fresh offer for the 21-year-old Welsh international.

But with Nottingham Forest also in the race to sign Williams, Fulham are keeping their eyes open over other targets, with Sidibe emerging as a cost-effective option as he will be departing Monaco as a free agent. The Frenchman's potential availability on a Bosman move appeals to the Cottagers, who have reportedly opened talks with the experienced right-back.

Sidibe is expected to attract more proposals in the coming days, and he could have plenty of options to consider. Fulham could be a good destination for the 29-year-old French international, but his hesitation in returning to England could play against the Cottagers.

Wolves and Fulham set to miss out on Portuguese midfielder – 'On his way' to another club

While Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham have been fighting over the potential signing of Matheus Nunes, they were also in a tussle for another Portuguese midfielder.

That man is Guilherme Guedes, more commonly known as Gui, who is contract to Vitoria, but it appears both Wolves and the Cottagers are set to miss out on him.

This comes from Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda, who took to Twitter to announce the 20-year-old is 'on his way' to Almeria in Spain.

It's a cheap deal, too, as the La Liga side will pay €3m up front, but could end up paying another €2m if certain bonuses are triggered.

He will sign a six-year deal there, thus snubbing Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham, who 'also tried to sign' him alongside Lille.

How serious the interest from Molineux and Craven Cottage was isn't revealed, but if they did try and give it a go, perhaps the lure of regular first-team football cost them.

Either way, Wolves and Fulham have bigger fish to fry right now, like Matheus Nunes.

Sonny Hilton: Carlisle United sign midfielder on loan from Premier League side Fulham

Sonny Hilton also spent time on loan with Finnish side TPS Turku in 2021

Carlisle United have signed midfielder Sonny Hilton on a season-long loan from Premier League side Fulham.

The 21-year-old joined the Cottagers from Tranmere Rovers as an under-16 player and has progressed at the club.

Hilton was part of the team that won the Premier League 2 Division 2 title last term whilst with their under-23s.

"I like young, hungry and talented footballers and I want that type of player in the building," boss Paul Simpson told the club website.

Hilton completes Carlisle loan move

Fresh from winning the Johnny Haynes' Trophy as Fulham's academy player of the year, Sonny Hilton has signed for Carlisle United on a season-long loan.

The 21 year-old attacking midfielder, equally comfortable in the number ten role or the right wing, enjoyed an outstanding campaign as captain of Fulham's under 23 side last season – scoring eleven goals and adding nineteen assists as Steve Wigley's side won the Premier League 2 Second Division.

The England youth international, who worked under Carlisle boss Paul Simpson when he was coaching England's under 20 side, has moved to Brunton Park to secure regular first team-football. Simpson told Carlisle's official website:

"He's a really talented footballer, but also a great lad as well. I enjoyed working with him and I heard he was available for a loan for the coming season a few weeks ago. He had a really successful season with the 23s at Fulham last time out and they feel he's ready.

Fulham player responds to reported Rotherham United transfer agreement

Fulham right-back Marlon Fossey has rubbished reports stating that he has completed a switch to Championship outfit Rotherham United.

The 23-year-old is in high demand this summer following a stint on loan at League One side Bolton Wanderers last season, where he scored once and notched five assists in 15 appearances as a wing-back, before his campaign was ended abruptly due to injury.

At one point, the Trotters were hoping to secure the American on a permanent basis, with his contract at Craven Cottage expiring next summer.

However, reported second tier interest emerged a few weeks ago in Fossey, with Preston North End name-dropped as being keen on signing him.

Rotherham have also been mooted as a potential destination, with one tweet in particular claiming that the Millers were closing in on Fossey's signature.

However, Fossey himself has put a stop to that story in particular by shutting down any talk that he may have or may be putting pen-to-paper for Paul Warne's side.

"I was wondering why people were congratulating me on my 'move'..." Fossey wrote.

"This tweet isn't true."

The Verdict

On paper, it didn't make much sense for Rotherham to be after Fossey right now anyway with Chiedozie Ogbene still at the club.

And whilst Fossey only tweeted that the tweet wasn't true in the sense that he was set to sign for the Millers, it doesn't mean that it can't happen in the future.

What it will do though is put Championship clubs on alert for the American's availability – Ian Evatt has already moved on at Bolton to sign Conor Bradley from Liverpool, so that suggests he knows that Fossey is destined for the second tier.

Where Fossey ends up though remains to be seen, and if he keeps fit he could be a real asset to plenty of sides.

Fulham: Cottagers set to make permanent move for Neco Williams

According to Goal, Fulham are now ready to make their move in a bid to complete the permanent transfer of Neco Williams from Liverpool.

The Welshman made the move to Craven Cottage on loan during the January transfer window after experiencing a serious lack of game time with the Reds, having only played seven minutes of Premier League football under Jurgen Klopp last season.

The 21-year-old shone during his short spell with Marco Silva's side, and his performances appear to have caught the eye of some potential suitors, including Southampton and Nottingham Forest, who are both believed to be interested in a summer move for the talented youngster.

However, it now looks as though it's going to be Silva and Co. who will be the first to capitalise on a possible deal for the right-back after a fresh update emerged.

The Latest: Fulham readying bid for Williams

In a new article published by Goal, it's claimed that Fulham are set to 'make their move' for Williams, and are expected to 'make an official offer' for their target later this week.

The source continues to state that the defender is 'ready to leave' Liverpool in search of more regular first-team football, with the Anfield outfit looking to receive a fee in the region of £15m for his services.

The Verdict: All roads lead to Craven Cottage

If Fulham could bring Williams to the capital on a permanent basis, this would come as a huge boost to the newly-promoted club, who topped the Championship table with the Reds starlet as an integral part of their starting XI.

The 21-cap international made 15 appearances for the Cottagers in the couple of months that he was there, recording four goal contributions during that time, via Transfermarkt. He's also shone on the international stage, leading Wales boss Robert Page to say the youngster has hit 'another level'.

With Liverpool having recently signed Calvin Ramsay as a backup to Trent Alexander-Arnold in that right-back position, Williams' exit is now inevitable, it's just a question of where his next destination will be, and after a highly successful loan period, there's a very strong chance that it could well be Fulham.

Who is AFC Bournemouth signing Ryan Fredericks?

CHERRIES have made their first signing since their return to the Premier League – but who is exactly is newcomer Ryan Fredericks?

Predominantly a right-back by trade, Fredericks has 63 Premier League appearances to his name – all for his most recent club, West Ham.

However, the 29-year-old has been in and around the topflight since he came through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur.

An England under-19 international whilst with Spurs, Fredericks is also eligible to represent Guyana and Scotland.

However, despite interest from both countries in regards to tempting Fredericks into playing for them, he remains uncapped by any country.

Fredericks was handed his debut for Spurs by former Cherries boss Harry Redknapp alongside current England star Harry Kane in a draw with Hearts in a Europa League qualifier, back in August 2011.

Deployed as a right-winger, Fredericks went on to play an hour of action on his senior debut, before being replaced by Niko Kranjcar as a youthful Spurs side failed to unlock a Hearts side reeling from the 5-0 defeat in the first leg.

Coincidentally, Fredericks' first-team debut for Tottenham came six days before his new boss, Scott Parker, signed for the North London club on deadline day.

However, by the time Fredericks was handed his second game for Spurs in December 2013, Parker had departed for Fulham.

It was at Craven Cottage where the pair would cross paths again, only after Fredericks had spent time out on loan with Brentford, Millwall and Middlesbrough.

Fredericks' arrival at Fulham shortly followed his departure from Tottenham in 2015, but it was not a straightforward swap of London clubs.

Instead, Fredericks originally signed with Bristol City, but just 26 days and five appearances later, he had departed Ashton Gate, citing personal reasons that required a move back to London.

Fulham paid the same fee Bristol City had parted with to sign him from Tottenham, and it was with the Cottagers Fredericks came into his own as a right-back.

By the time he departed for West Ham in 2018, Fredericks made 114 appearances for the Cottagers.

Named in the EFL's Championship Team of the Year in 2018, Fredericks left Craven Cottage shortly before Parker returned as a coach, meaning the reunion of the duo will be mark the first time Fredericks has played under Parker.

Whilst his time with West Ham was hampered by injury, the signing of Vladimir Coufal and the emergence of talent Ben Johnson, Fredericks made 76 appearances for the Hammers, scoring three times and providing seven assists.

Last campaign he was limited to just 15 appearances, including five games in the Europa League, helping West Ham to the semi-final stage of the competition.

Report: Fulham eyeing Hammer

Fulham want to do a deal to sign Andriy Yarmolenko, according to a new report from The Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Londoners, who have just been promoted, are eyeing a potential swoop to sign the Ukraine international.

Yarmolenko is set to leave the club once his contract expires at the end of the month and Fulham are now eyeing him up.

Yarmo struggled for minutes under David Moyes last season but was a heroic figure after war broke out between Russia and his native Ukraine.

It remains to be seen if the winger wants to remain in England, as there is said to be interest from MLS clubs Inter Miami, New York City FC and LAFC.

Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab are also said to be considering a move for the 32-year-old as he prepares for life after the Hammers.

The Irons are likely to have to replace Yarmo in this transfer window.

Tosin Adarabioyo: Fulham confident of keeping Newcastle transfer target

Fulham are confident of keeping Tosin Adarabioyo this summer despite interest from Newcastle United, sources have told Nothing But Newcastle.

What's the latest Newcastle United transfer news?

The 24-year-old had been linked with a move to St James' Park after helping lead Fulham back into the Premier League last season as Newcastle continue to track Sven Botman.

While the former Manchester City youngster is perhaps not as eye-catching a name as the Lille star, the fact a deal to bring Botman to Tyneside is not thought to be progressing means the club need to be looking at other targets.

Still, although Adarabioyo is admired by Eddie Howe, there is a hope within Fulham they can keep him beyond the end of his contract next summer and establish themselves in the Premier League once more under Marco Silva.

Sources have told NBN the defender is happy at Craven Cottage.

How well did Adarabioyo play in the Championship?

Clearly, it's hard to imagine the Fulham star being a target ahead of Botman, although that's not to say he wouldn't be a good signing.

Fulham's dominance in the Championship last season might have an impact on his defensive averages, but Adarabioyo's numbers were very impressive.

No one in Marco Silva's side averaged more clearances per game (3.6, via WhoScored) while his 86.4% passing accuracy was the fourth-highest in their squad based on players to have made more than five appearances. Given he also averaged the second-highest number of passes per game (74.7), that's an impressive positive return.

Whether or not that translates into a Premier League context remains to be seen of course (his last season there proved difficult as a poor Fulham were relegated) and as a reasonably young central defender playing at a high level in the second-tier coming towards the end of his contract, he'd certainly be a logical target.

Not signing him might not be a huge blow to recruitment plans but, given the player is said to be happy at Craven Cottage, he would appear to be one name to rule out.

According to The Athletic, there is still a feeling Botman is receptive of the idea of a move to Newcastle. If that's the case, it's hard to imagine interest in Adarabioyo going any further.

What has been said about Adarabioyo?

Speaking in 2021, City boss Pep Guardiola hailed the "level" his former player was showing at Fulham during their last stint in the Premier League.

"First of all, I would like to say how happy we are all of us for what he's doing," he said to Sky Sports (via All Nigerian Soccer).

"He's a guy for the academy, finally, he took his position in the Premier League and we are more than delighted the level he's showing.

"He deserves it, he's an exceptional person and a good footballer."
