Sky: Fulham put forward a serious offer to Romagnoli but his dream remains Milan

Alessio Romagnoli's future is still up in the air despite the fact the defender is very close to the expiry of his contract, a report claims.

Last night, Gianluca Di Marzio gave an update on Romagnoli's situation during his segment for Calciomercato L'Originale on Sky (via MilanNews) and confirmed that as things stand his contract is expiring on June 30, meaning he will soon be a free agent.

The journalist states that Romagnoli was contacted yesterday by Fulham, who put forward a significant economic proposal to try and tempt him to west London after their promotion back to the Premier League.

However, Romagnoli is not enthusiastic about the destination given that they will likely face another battle to avoid relegation, and he is therefore waiting for the relaunch of Lazio. Interestingly, Di Marzio states that his dream is to remain at Milan and extend his contract with the Rossoneri.

Player's 'early return' from vacation is to seal Fulham transfer – Contract to be 'drawn up in next few hours'

For the past few days, various reports coming out of the Portuguese press have continued insisting that Fulham and Sporting have reached an agreement for João Palhinha's transfer.

It has also been stated Marco Silva convinced the midfielder to join the Cottagers this summer.

On Friday, A Bola reported the 26-year-old only had to sort out a few details with Fulham before sealing a move to the English capital club.

Palhinha has been on holiday in the Maldives and will return to Lisbon today. That's according to A Bola on Saturday, who add that he will not stay there long and 'should leave for London' in the next few days to seal a move to the Fulham.

It's been an 'early return' because the newly promoted Premier League side are waiting to make the Portugal international their new addition. After reaching total agreement with Sporting, it was necessary for Silva's side to sort out the final details with the player.

A Bola explain the two parties overcame these differences on Friday, specifically related to his salary and length of contract.

Palhinha will see his wages doubled from €1.2m to €2.5m per year at Fulham.

Following the agreement on Friday, with his consent, the deal will last for five seasons.

The newspaper explains the contract will be 'drawn up in the next few hours and ready to be signed by the midfielder'.

The silly season reaches stupid heights

The only conclusion you can draw is it has to be the heat. It has been unusually warm in London over the past ten days or so – and the temperature appearances to have got to the tabloid boys. John Cross, usually one of the more well-sourced and reliable members of the press pack, produced an exclusive earlier this week suggesting that Newcastle United were keen on signing Tosin Adarabioyo. Nothing wrong with that in and of itself – Tosin looked good in the Premier League and was a consistent performer as the Whites cruised to the Championship title – but the salient details in the Daily Mirror piece were all wrong.

Cross claimed that Adarabioyo, who still has ambitions of playing senior international football for England, only had twelve months on his contract. That might be strictly correct but Fulham can trigger a twelve month extension on his deal – and the player himself is both content at Craven Cottage and eager to the right the wrongs of his first taste in the top flight. The upshot is that it would take a hell a lot of Saudi blood money to acquire the ball-playing centre back for Eddie Howe and Fulham won't be countenancing any sort of deal at present.

Not to be undone the Sun claimed that Gareth Southgate was the favourite to succeed Marco Silva in SW6. It was a bizarre story built off the back of England's Nations League hammering by Hungary – and supposed to coincide with the first sustained spell of discontent Southgate has endured since he became national coach – but any impetus evaporated once the FA put their strong backing for the manager on the record. The idea that Fulham might ditch Marco Silva was always barmy, but this read like a puff piece for the bookies' the paper was partnered with on a slow news day.

Chris wrote the other day that nobody is truly in the know in a modern transfer window. He's right, of course, because rumours race halfway across the world before the sun has even got his hat on these days. That's largely because of the ubiquity of the internet and social media, where anyone with an account can hashtag any sort of statement and suddenly we're off to the races. The keyboard warriors and bedwetters are running particularly wild given Fulham's failure to make a single signing – one Twitter account has even started posting a goal for every day that the Whites aren't active in the market. It's good that user has more than home league goals scored under Scott Parker in 2020/21 to select from – otherwise they would have already exhausted all their content.

There are, of course, a few compelling reasons why Fulham haven't announced any new arrivals yet. First, they have apparently targeted a number of players who will be free agents on June 30th. They remain in talks with some – and the announcement of any deal ahead of time is dependent not only on the player agreeing terms, but both clubs being amenable to publicising the deal. For signings from foreign countries, there is a July 1st opening of the international transfer window – and those announcements are especially complex to handle. Even the early notice of Fabio Carvalho's impending departure was dependent on a pre-contract agreement and improved relations between Fulham and Liverpool.

Modern football fans by their nature are impatient. Tony Khan's suitability to be the club's director of football remains a lightning rod that ignites plenty of the fanbase, whilst there is an understandable desire to see that the powers that be have learnt the lessons of the last three disastrous top flight campaigns. But the picture is complicated further by Fulham's ambition: the club are targeting a number of leading European players, who may ultimately decide to sign for more established top division teams across the continent. The pitfalls of aiming high are that you may get turned down.

Silva seems to be playing a more prominent role in recruitment than either of his predecessors but the lack of early summer signings may allow a few of the promising talents from Steve Wigley's under-23 set up to make the most of a chance to impress in pre-season. While the academy reorganisation has paid immediate dividends on the pitch, there has also been an increased willingness to loan out some of the club's brightest young talent. This week alone both Sonny Hilton, fresh from lifting the Johnny Haynes Trophy, and Taye Ashby-Hammond have secured EFL loans that can only assist their development – whilst the absence of a new number ten to replace Carvalho could offer opportunities to both Jay Stansfield and Luke Harris in the first couple of weeks of July.

Time will tell whether this article was far too optimistic in assessing Fulham's start to the summer but there are far more pressing things in the world at present to be angry about. My recommendation to the Craven Cottage regulars patiently waiting for another notification would be to reflect on the sublime football that Silva's side produced last season in the knowledge that everyone at Motspur Park is working hard to deliver the acquisitions that the Portuguese head coach requires to make the Whites competitive in the league above.

Fulham have offered £20m title-winner a £65k-a-week contract

Premier League newcomers Fulham have offered AC Milan's Serie A winning captain a £65,000-a-week contract at Craven Cottage, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

Well, you can't accuse the Championship champions of a lack of ambition.

Joao Palhinha is on his way to West London, after Fulham fought off competition from Wolves for the £18 million-rated Portugal international. Manor Solomon could join him, with Fulham agreeing a £7 million deal for the one-time Manchester City target with Shakhtar Donetsk.

And, in Romagnoli, Fulham have also set their sights on an experienced central defender, one who skippered Milan to their first Scudetto triumph since the days of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Clarence Seedorf and Andrea Pirlo.

Will Fulham land AC Milan captain Alessio Romangoli?

Romagnoli, who has 12 caps for the Italian national team and joined the Rossoneri for £20 million back in 2015, is out of contract this summer. And, according to TMW, Fulham have put forward a deal worth around £3.4 million-a-year. Or, if you like, £65,000-a-week.

This comes after Newcastle United submitted an almost identical offer (La Lazio Siamo Noi). It remains to be seen if the Magpies are still in contention for Romagnoli's signature, with Lille's Sven Botman seemingly on the verge of signing on the dotted line after months of speculation.

Romagnoli is reportedly 'evaluating' Fulham's offer. Lazio are interested too, though they have not yet made an offer that satisfies the former Roma man's demands.

Gianluca di Marzio, meanwhile, claims that Romagnoli has doubts about moving to West London. And you can see why. Despite the high-profile arrivals of Palhinha and Solomon, it is far from certain that Fulham will adapt to life back in the big time a la Leeds United in 2020/21, or Brentford last term.

"I think it's deserved," Romagnoli said in May after Milan snatched the Serie A title from bitter rivals Inter. "I've been suffering for many years and now we'll enjoy it. I take this opportunity to thank everyone, it's an unforgettable moment.

"I don't know what I will do in the future. But, in the meantime, I am proud to be part of this team. We were the strongest and we proved it."

Fulham 'make an offer for AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli' as Marco Silva looks to secure his first signing of the transfer window... despite the player's desire to stay in Italy amid Lazio interest

Fulham have made an offer for AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli
Marco Silva's side are looking to make their first deal of the transfer window
Romagnoli led Milan to a league title last season but fell out of favour in defence
According to reports, the defender would prefer to stay in Italy next season

Fulham have made an offer for AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli as they look to secure their first signing of the window, according to Sky Italy.

The Cottagers are yet to make their first moves in the transfer market since their promotion to the Premier League, but are hoping the Italian centre-back can be their first recruit.

It's understood that the AC Milan captain would prefer to remain in Serie A but Fulham's offer may be too good financially for the league champions to turn down.

Fulham have made an offer for AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli in the transfer window

Romagnoli emerged as a top transfer target for Marco Silva's side after making 19 appearances in AC Milan's title winning season last year.

Despite having the armband at the San Siro, 27-year-old slipped in the pecking order under Stefano Pioli - with Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu being regularly chosen as the starting defensive pair.

This has opened the door to a potential transfer this summer, but it's understood that the player would prefer to remain in Italy amid interest from league rivals Lazio.

The defender's ideal situation would be to remain in Milan having spent seven seasons at the club, but that may not be possible given their pursuit of Lille's Sven Botman.

Meanwhile, the Cottagers are preparing a £10million bid for Liverpool defender Neco Williams as they look to fend off Nottingham Forest and Southampton.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Craven Cottage and helped Marco Silva's men gain promotion back to the Premier League in his 15 loan appearances.

Forest, Southampton and PSV Eindhoven have also shown interest in the Wales international, with the newly-promoted Premier League sign looking to replace Djed Spence, the Middlesbrough full-back who is a target for Tottenham.

Fulham move for Hamer?

A report this afternoon from the sun claims that Fulham have made a move for Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer. Jack Rosser reports that Marco Silva would look to sign the Dutchman as well as the addition of João Palhinha which is very close to completion.

Hamer who has 8 goals and 13 assists in 85 apps for the Sky Blues has earned rave reviews in the championship.

He was part of the side that beat Fulham twice last season in which he looked very assured against one of the best midfields in the league.

Rosser doesn't say how much the Cottagers would need to shell out to coax the Dutchman to the Premier League but if they wanted to do a deal then Fulham certainly have the funds.

West London rivals Brentford have been credited with an interest as well.

Paul Merson takes brutal dig at Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and claims he wouldn't even start for Fulham

Paul Merson says Eddie Nketiah won't fire Arsenal back into the top-four and says the striker wouldn't even start for Premier League rivals Fulham or Everton.

Nketiah has scored 23 goals in 92 appearances since making his first-team debut in 2017.

The 23-year-old agreed a new five-year contract with the Gunners last week, having finished the 2021-22 campaign in fine form, starting Arsenal's last eight league games and netting five goals.

But Merson isn't convinced that Nketiah can lead the line for Arsenal and says he wouldn't start for Fulham or Everton.

'All Arsenal have got up front right now is Eddie Nketiah, who recently signed a new contract when it looked like he might leave,' Merson told the Daily Star.

'And no disrespect to Nketiah but Mikel Arteta must realise he won't get you into the top four. Absolutely no chance. That's a fact.

'Nketiah can't be spearheading your Champions League push. He's not getting in ahead of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison at Everton and they almost got relegated.

'He's not getting in at Fulham ahead of Aleksandr Mitrovic and they've only just been promoted. I'm not having a go at him but he's not getting you top four.'

Merson's comments come as Arsenal close in on a £45m deal for Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.

Despite Nketiah's development last season, Mikel Arteta was keen to sign a new striker this summer to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

The Gunners boss was also delighted to see Nketiah extend his stay in north London, saying: 'I'm delighted Eddie is staying with us. He represents what we are all about and all the values of the club.

£25 million Everton player rejects chance to reunite with former Everton boss

Everton striker Moise Kean is a player that has drawn the interest of newly promoted sides Fulham and Nottingham Forest. The 22 year old striker has had a torrid time in Turin and is keen to put an end to his struggles in Italy.

After a convincing loan spell at PSG, Kean had no intentions to stay at Everton. Juventus came with an exquisitely convoluted plan of signing him on a two year loan with an obligation to buy instead of giving straight cash to the Toffees. As it stands, this plan has now backfired as Juventus, unimpressed by Kean's performances, are finding it difficult to offload Kean.

In order to offload Kean, the Bianconeri either had to renegotiate the deal structure with Everton or find a buyer who would be willing to pay the €28 million. Everton does not want to renegotiate a deal leaving Juve with only one option.

PSG have always shown interest in Kean and the player likes the idea of returning to Paris. However, there also has been interest from the Premier League. Fulham and Nottingham Forest viewed Kean as a target; however, Kean isn't convinced with the idea of joining either side.

Everton striker Moise Kean rejected advances from Fulham and Nottingham Forest

According to Corriere Dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Kean has turned down approaches from Fulham and Forest. Fulham boss Marco Silva would have been keen to reunite with the Italian striker. When Silva was the Everton manager, he had signed Kean from Juventus but never gave him a proper chance to flourish.

Kean is eyeing a return to Paris, where he was in the best form of his career, scoring 17 goals in 41 games. The Old Lady wants to ship the striker out this summer and options are being explored. If Juventus decide to activate the buy clause a season earlier, the Toffees may miss out on the €4 million payment for the second year of the loan.

However, that would mean that Juve will end up paying €28 million to Everton which will boost the club coffers during a delicate financial situation. It has been suggested that Kean could be part of a swap deal that would see Leandro Parades move to Turin and Kean go back to Paris.

For any such deal to happen, Bianconeri will first have to buy Kean from Everton and then carry out the swap deal with PSG. In any case, the 22 year old isn't appealed to the idea of returning to the Premier League.

Fulham to unveil new £7m signing within days, £30k-a-week deal agreed

Manor Solomon should finally complete his protracted move to Premier League newcomers Fulham this week with a £30,000-a-week, five-year deal agreed, as reported by Israeli publication Ynet.

A fleet-footed forward with Champions League goals against Atalanta, Manchester City and Real Madrid on his CV could, in theory at least, blossom into one of the finest pound-for-pound signings made by any Premier League club this summer. Especially if he lives up to those Eden Hazard comparisons in West London.

One things for sure, Fulham fans will be hoping he's worth the wait.

It's been nearly two months since Solomon appeared to confirm his impending switch to English football. It's even longer since Fulham reportedly agreed a cut-price £7 million fee with Shakhtar Donetsk, the winger's market value falling following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

But, after more 'will-they, won't-they' moments than a drawn-out sitcom romance, it seems that Rachel and Ross, sorry, Fulham and Solomon are finally getting together. Ynet say that the one-time Arsenal target is 'expected' to be officially unveiled as a Fulham player before the beginning of July.

Solomon, the report adds, is prioritising a move to the Premier League above all other offers. That is despite interest from, amongst others, Torino and Nice. He will sign a five-year deal, worth around £30,000-a-week at Craven Cottage.

Fulham will finally land Manor Solomon

"In January, Shakhtar had an offer from Fulham for 18 million euros (£15 million)," the president of Solomon's former club, Maccabi Petah Tikvah, said a few weeks back, expressing his frustration after missing out on a sizeable cash windfall via the sell-on clause in the 22-year-old's contract.

"If they had sold him for that amount in January, and not as Fulham would pay now, then we would have had over a million and a half euros."

And Yossi Benayoun, arguably the greatest Israeli footballer to grace the Premier League, is backing Solomon to emulate his impact on British shores.

"Hopefully he goes to the Premier League. This is the best league in the world and a leap forward for him," says Benayoun, once of Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham United.

"He has proven he is a player for the highest level. He needs to improve certain things but he belongs there. We know what his abilities are.

"Will he reach my level? It depends on the team. Fulham have only just gone up in the league. When I came to West Ham, it was also after promotion. We played offensive football and it served me well.

"Hopefully it will Manor as well."

Fulham could also complete the signing of Sporting Lisbon's Joao Palhinha this week.

Lazio cannot afford to lose out on Fulham target Romagnoli

Despite the fact that Lazio have been in talks with Alessio Romagnoli for a while now, they're less than a week away from losing out on him to Fulham, something they can ill afford.

The 27-year-old Italian centre back is gearing up to leave Milan on a free transfer next week, ending a seven-year association with the club. For a long time now it's seemed as if a move to Lazio was just around the corner but no agreement has been reached yet, despite months of talks.

The issue is the strategy employed by sporting director Igli Tare, whose salary offer is maxing out at €2.8m net per season plus add-ons. Romagnoli is continuing to ask for €3.2m net per season plus add-ons and despite the gap being minimal at this point, the Biancocelesti are refusing to close out the deal, allowing Fulham to enter the fray.

Romagnoli is not keen to wait much longer and reports suggest that he'll accept Fulham's offer at the tail end of next week, should the Biancocelesti fail to finalise things.

Situations like this or the slow progress on a deal for Atalanta prospect Marco Carnesecchi are causing tension in Rome, with coach Maurizio Sarri incredibly concerned about Tare's work. The pre-season training camp is rapidly approaching and he wants his new arrivals to spend as much time as possible learning the system.

Tying down Sarri to a new deal was a very ambitious move by Claudio Lotito and it's clear that he's keen to build a project in Rome, but losing out on Romagnoli would prove that nothing has really changed in the Eternal City. Fans are growing increasingly impatient and not signing the Italian defender would cause a significant rift between supporters and club.

Fulham make offer for Kevin Mbabu

Newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham have made an offer for Wolfsburg right-back Kevin Mbabu.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Fulham have set their sights on Wolfsburg right-back Kevin Mbabu and have made an offer for the Swiss defender. The 27-year-old has just a year remaining on his contract with the Bundesliga club and could be on the move this summer.

The Cottagers gained promotion to the Premier League after finishing atop the Championship table last season. Marco Silva's side are eager to strengthen in multiple positions ahead of the new season, as they look to secure their Premier League status beyond 2023.

Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Solomon is closing in on a move to the London outfit. The Israel international could play all along the front line, which would help Fulham make up for the loss of Fabio Carvalho, who moved to Liverpool this summer.

The Cottagers are also in the market for a goalkeeper and have reportedly identified Arsenal's Bernd Leno as a possible summer signing. The German has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates and is looking for greener pastures.

Right-back is another area Fulham are looking to strengthen. Mbabu has thus emerged as an option with just a year remaining on his Wolfsburg contract. The Switzerland international made 31 appearances for the club across competitions last season and is known for being solid defensively.

Fulham are also tracking Liverpool right-back, Neco Williams, for the position. Williams joined the London outfit on a six-month loan in January earlier this year, helping them gain promotion to the English top-flight. The Cottagers are eager to sign him permanently, but Liverpool are holding out for £15 million.

The Reds full-back is attracting interest from other English clubs as well. Nottingham Forest and Southampton have both approached Liverpool with their offers, along with Fulham. Marco Silva's side are confident of getting the Neco Williams deal through, but they do have alternate options in mind if they fail to get the move through.

Mbabu is seen as such an alternative, with TMW claiming that an offer has already been lodged for the 27-year-old. The Switzerland international has prior experience of playing in England, having spent time with Newcastle United. Whether a return to the Premier League is on the cards for the defender remains to be seen.
