Kean happy with Ron link

Rovers boss delighted club in running for Ronaldinho

Last updated: 4th January 2011

Blackburn manager Steve Kean has expressed his delight that the ambitious club are trying to bring AC Milan star Ronaldinho to Ewood Park.

Rovers have tabled a €7.2million (£6.2m) offer to the Rossoneri for the 30-year-old two-time winner of the Fifa World Player of the Year award.

Ronaldinho is expected to leave Milan for pastures new during the transfer window, but Blackburn are not the only club in the frame for him.

Kean is not getting too excited that the Brazil international will join, although he is delighted with the calibre of players being linked.

Contact
"I know there has been contact made by the owners to representatives of Ronaldinho but I don't know how far down the line it is and whether it will actually happen," explained Kean.

"If any Premier League manager was asked if they wanted to sign someone who has been World Player of the Year twice they would be interested.

"That is something that puts us on the map in terms of trying to bring players of that stature to the club.

"Everyone should look at it as a positive because if we can attract players - maybe not that individual if it doesn't happen - but players of that stature I think it has been a long time since we have been able to do that."

Duff
Earlier on Sky Sports News Blackburn's chairperson Anuradha Desai confirmed the club are interested in Damien Duff, as well as being in talks for Ronaldinho.

The Republic of Ireland ace, now of Fulham, enjoyed seven successful seasons with Rovers before joining Chelsea in a big-money deal in 2003.

"We are bidding for Mr Ronaldinho," she told Sky Sports News. "We've already made a bid of €7.2million (£6.2m) and we're in negotiations.

"Maybe we have to increase that, I don't know. There are two other clubs who are trying.

"There are a couple of other players we're looking at. We're thinking of getting Damien Duff

Brunt wants form turnaround

Baggies midfielder admits team to need to pick up form quickly

Last updated: 4th January 2011

West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt is hopeful his team can turn their poor festive period around and pick their form up in the New Year.

The Baggies suffered four successive defeats over Christmas to see them slide down the table after an impressive start to the campaign that saw them reach as high as fourth place in the Premier League.

They now lie just three points off the relegation zone in 14th place, with a defeat to Tuesday evening's opponents Fulham at Craven Cottage, who are 18th, sending them below Mark Hughes' team.

Despite being firmly in a mix of teams languishing in that area, Brunt insisted that his team needed to regain their form quickly to avoid being dragged into a relegation dogfight.

Finishing
"Our finishing has definitely let us down over the Christmas period," he said.

"And the harsh reality of the Premier League is if you don't take your chances, you get punished.

"We saw that two seasons ago and at the minute we're seeing it as well.

"We haven't played badly but we haven't got many points. We would rather have played rubbish and got a few more.

"We must start picking points up again otherwise it has been a pretty dismal Christmas for us."
