I'm not interested in the politics of what has happened so please don't turn this post into something else. Its been reported that they got half a million more viewers so it looks like the fans have voted they would rather see more football action than talk. I think it's time for the BBC to take note and turn the clock back to when the majority of the programme was filled with the football. I remember the big match on ITV and you just had Brian Moore introducing each game and at the end of the show he would do a quick summary showing the league tables and then would show the best goals to finish the programme. Wouldn't the rest of you like me prefer that or am I living in the past because I for one thought it was far better.

The programme was only 20 minutes. Even though there was no discussion, the football was condensed to around three or four minutes from each match. Moreover, every piece of action was replayed which meant that the actual game time from each fixture amounted to no more than two minutes.

I don't see this being a successful format in the long run.

I only watch MOTD when Fulham are on and then turn over. This morning I caught it and enjoyed it immensely. No gurning pundits who struggle to put a sentence together. Saying the obvious and being paid for it.

Now we just need a cheaper licence fee and maybe we can have just sport progs showing sport without endless filler. News reporting news without endless comments and opinions by journalists guessing at what is going on.

Here is hoping.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Dodgin

Can watch the same early evening on Youtube.

Somerset Fulham

Morbid curiosity I would imagine.

This format is available online much earlier than MOTD is on.

Agree

Plodder

I too preferred last night's format to the usual offering.

Yeah I don't think you can jump to the conclusion that more people liked this because more people watched.

There would likely have been a selection of people tuning in who never normally would because it's been a major story over the past 48 hours. And there was likely to have been fair weather watchers tuning in to see what it was like.

I thought it was drearily dull and joyless and one of the least entertaining programmes I've watched all week..

And that includes The Apprentice.

I thought The Apprentice was quite entertaining - that woman who talked a hundred words a second over that bloke, who seemed to have far more of a clue, yet he was sacked and she stayed in!
Would anyone really go into business with any of these gormless idiots, though?
Of course not.

I also preferred last night's format to the usual fare; but would prefer twice the game time at least.

Agreed

Pluto

A happy medium would be nice - more game time (not sure why this was reduced?), commentary and lineups (again, not sure why they were cut?), but with less of the studio nonsense. The quality of the analysis is usually extremely poor anyway.

perry geyton

I'd dump all the pundits and just have someone that barely knows about football introduce the games

Maybe Bongo could do it

Huxley

A true number would be the number of people that tune in next week if no pundits or commentary. Did people just tuned in to see what it would be like? For me it was a waste of time and would not watch it of continued like this. People obviously don't realise that these kinds of highlights are available about an hour after the game for free on the skysports site.

Sgt Fulham

This is why the British get walked over time and time again. Rather than sending a message by not watching (if you are of that opinion) they just can't help but watch out of morbid curiosity. Pretty disappointing but not surprising.

I'm in agreement but why was it necessary for you to say they struggle to put a sentence together.

Good day for MoTD to be reduced in length. I want to forget today's game.
