Fulham and Burnley go all-in with SBOTOP and W88 in advance of gambling ad ban

June 28 – Premier League clubs are taking full advantage of the time lag between next season and the implementation of a ban on shirt sponsorship from betting operators from the start of the 2026/27 season.

Earlier this month Aston Villa announced a two-season shirt sponsorship with BK8. Fulham and Burnley have now signed one-year deals with SBOTOP and W88 respectively.

For the 2022/23 season Fulham announced a record-breaking sponsorship deal with W88 for their shirt. That record has been broken again with the new SBOTOP agreement, said the club. In the meantime W88, who have previously had shirt deals with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa, have taken newly promoted Burnley's shirt position.

Bill Mummery, SBOTOP Chief Executive Officer, said: "We are delighted and excited to bring our two 'Premier Brands' together. Jointly, we look forward to increasing both our brands' awareness on a truly global platform in the coming seasons."

Mummery's comment indicates that this will be more than a one season deal and though no value has been given for the sponsorship, it is reckoned to be in region of £10 million.

The W88 logo will be worn by both the men's and women's first teams at Burnley. W88 will also receive ad inventory across Turf Moor on matchdays and via the Club's digital channels.

W88 has committed to work on community projects and initiatives, including the club's charitable activities.

Burnley director Stuart Hunt said: "Following lengthy discussions we are pleased to confirm W88 as our front of shirt sponsor for the upcoming season. As a newly promoted club, a partnership such as this plays a significant role in helping us to compete in the Premier League."

No value was given for the deal though industry sources say it is no more than £8 million.

SBOTOP scores record shirt sponsorship deal with Fulham

Betting operator SBOTOP has agreed to become the new main shirt sponsor of English Premier League football club Fulham.

Under the deal, which covers the 2023-24 season, SBOTOP branding will feature on the front of men's first team shirts. The operator's logo will also appear on players' training kit sleeves.

In addition, the Asian-facing operator will benefit from branding placement on a range of surfaces inside the team's Craven Cottage home stadium.

Fulham said the new partnership represented a record deal for the club.

SBOTOP has sponsored a number of Premier League teams, most recently Leeds United. The team was relegated from the top division last season.

"We are delighted and excited to bring our two 'premier brands' together," SBOTOP chief executive Bill Mummery said. "Jointly, we look forward to increasing both our brands' awareness on a truly global platform in the coming seasons."

Fulham commercial director Jon Don-Carolis added: "We are pleased to welcome SBOTOP as a partner as we continue our exciting journey in the Premier League. The coveted front of shirt sponsorship plays an integral part in keeping the club competitive through significant revenue."

Ban on shirt sponsorship
Premier League clubs will soon have to move away from gambling sponsorship on shirts. In April, clubs agreed to a halt gambling sponsorship on matchday shirts.

The withdrawal of this type of sponsorship will come into effect from the end of the 2025-26 season. Deals with operators can remain in place until that date and teams can strike new partnerships, as long as they conclude ahead of the ban.

Newly promoted Burnley announced a one-year shirt sponsorship deal with W88 earlier today (28 June). The Asian-facing also previously partnered with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and also Fulham last season.

Earlier this month, Aston Villa agreed a shirt sponsorship deal with Asia-facing operator BK8. The agreement will run to the end of the 2025-26.

However, Newcastle United downgraded its deal with offshore operator Fun88. The brand had served as principal partner since the 2017-18 season.

UK government must 'step in' over Premier League club sponsorship deals with gambling firms

West Ham were one of eight Premier League clubs to have the front of their shirts sponsored by a gambling firm during the 2022-23 season

A campaign group says the UK government must "now step in" after three Premier League clubs announced new shirt sponsorship deals with betting firms.

Burnley and Fulham have one-year deals with W88 and SBOTOP respectively. Aston Villa have a three-year deal with BK8.

In April, Premier League clubs agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorships on the front of matchday shirts by the end of the 2025-26 season.

In a statement, Big Step called the partnerships "short-sighted."

The group, which is campaigning to end gambling advertising and sponsorship in football, added: "Football can't be trusted on gambling and the government must now step in to end these deals.

"Clubs talk about mental health while desperately accepting cheques from online casinos to promote gambling - forcing their own young players and fans to be walking billboards for products that cause addiction and suicide."

The Aston Villa, Fulham and Burnley deals have all been announced in the last week.

In response, the Premier League told BBC Sport that it is the first sports league in the UK to take voluntary measures in order to reduce gambling advertising and said all gambling partners of clubs are already regulated and licensed by the Gambling Commission and are bound by the rules of the Advertising Standards Authority.

W88 has previously sponsored Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers as well as Fulham last season, while SBOTOP has had a commercial partnership with Leeds over several seasons.

Last season Villa were sponsored by car sales firm Cazoo while Burnley were sponsored by Classic Football Shirts.

Fulham said their record sponsorship deal with SBOTOP will play "an integral part in keeping the club competitive" with Burnley adding that the revenue they receive would help the club "compete in the Premier League".

Aston Villa Supporters' Trust said it was "highly disappointed" after the Midlands club announced a sponsorship deal with Asia-based BK8.

In 2021, Norwich cancelled a sponsorship deal with the same firm because of its provocative marketing material.

During the 2022-23 season, eight Premier League clubs had gambling companies on the front of their shirts, worth an estimated £60m per year.

As part of the decision to end gambling sponsorship on the front of shirts, clubs will still be able to continue featuring gambling brands in areas such as shirt sleeves and LED advertising after 2026.

SBOTOP retains Premier League presence with Fulham deal

SBOTOP has signed an agreement with Premier League club Fulham FC, becoming the team's sponsor for the 2023-24 season and continuing its presence in the English top-flight.

The operator, registered in Isle of Man as Celton Manx Ltd and active via the SBOTOP/SBOBET betting brands, will have its logo featured on the front of the Cottages' first team and on the sleeves of its training kits for the duration of the upcoming season.

Fulham will officially launch its kit on 30 June, wearing the new apparel for its July pre-season matches in the Premier League Summer Series in the Americas. Additionally, SBOTOP has also secured an 'in-stadium brand presence' to boost its visibility through the Premier League's 'global audience'.

Bill Mummery, SBOTOP Chief Executive Officer, said of the partnership: "We are delighted and excited to bring our two 'Premier Brands' together. Jointly, we look forward to increasing both our brands' awareness on a truly global platform in the coming seasons. I wish Fulham an enjoyable and rewarding trip to the USA."

This is not SBOTOP's first partnership with a Premier League team, as the betting group has been a partner of Leeds United since 2021. However, with Leeds' relegation from the top-flight last year, the deal marks the return of the brand to the league for the forthcoming campaign.

Speaking to SBC News following the Premier League's vote on shirt sponsorship, which will see a withdrawal of front-of-shirt arrangements from the 2026/27 season onwards, Mummery stated that SBOTOP will continue to 'remain part' of the club's story going forward.

Meanwhile, the deal further extends Fulham's relationship with the sports betting space, with the firm being involved in a long-standing deal with Fitzdares. However, the members club bookmaker does not maintain any shirt sponsorship arrangements with the club.

Fulham FC Commercial Director, Jon Don-Carolis, remarked: "We are pleased to welcome SBOTOP as our front of shirt partner as we continue our exciting journey in the Premier League.

"The coveted front of shirt sponsorship plays an integral part in keeping the Club competitive through significant revenue, and we look forward to celebrating continued success in 2023/24."

Internationals: Jamaica One Step Closer

Jamaica have one foot in the knock-out stages of the Gold Cup following a comfortable 4-1 victory over Trinidad & Tobago in St Louis on Wednesday.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid played a little over an hour of the Group A encounter, which saw the Reggae Boyz three goals to the good at half-time thanks to Demarai Gray's brace and a Leon Bailey effort.

Trinidad & Tobago briefly threatened a comeback when Andre Rampersad netted early in the second period, but new Chelsea signing Dujuan Richards restored the three-goal advantage in stoppage time.

The result means Jamaica will qualify for the knock-out stages if they avoid defeat against St Kitts & Nevis – who are yet to accrue a point – on Sunday.

Fulham nets SBOTOP deal ahead of 23/24 PL season

Fulham Football Club has announced its new principal partner for the 2023/24 season as betting brand SBOTOP.

The SBOTOP logo will be featured on the front of Fulham's men's first team official shirts, as well as on the sleeve of their training kits. Fans will be able to take a first glimpse at the new squad uniforms during pre-season when Fulham will take to North America as part of the Premier League July Summer Series.

Bill Mummery, SBOTOP Chief Executive Officer, said: "We are delighted and excited to bring our two 'Premier Brands' together. Jointly, we look forward to increasing both our brands' awareness on a truly global platform in the coming seasons. I wish Fulham an enjoyable and rewarding trip to the US."

Details around the deal further revealed that in addition to the front-of-shirt sponsorship arrangements, SBOTOP will also receive extra brand visibility at Fulham's home ground, Craven Cottage.

Jon Don-Carolis, Fulham FC Commercial Director, added: "We are pleased to welcome SBOTOP as our Front of Shirt partner as we continue our exciting journey in the Premier League.

"The coveted front of shirt sponsorship plays an integral part in keeping the Club competitive through significant revenue, and we look forward to celebrating continued success in 2023/24."

Betting sponsorships have recently become a hot topic in the English Premier League, with top flight clubs producing a vote in favour of a league-wide ban of front-of-shirt gambling deals earlier in April.

The ban has been given a transition period and is expected to be fully implemented from the 2026/27 season onwards, as part of the UK government's wider strategy to make gambling in the country safer for all.

For now it is business as usual, with football teams continuing their long-standing partnerships such as the recent Burnley W88 deal or the rumoured Chelsea-Stake partnership.

Carlton Palmer predicts Leeds United player exit amid Fulham links
Carlton Palmer discusses the future of Brenden Aaronson at Leeds United amid Fulham speculation

Fulham are pursuing a move for Leeds United's Brenden Aaronson this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the Cottagers are keen to bring the midfielder to the club in the transfer window.

Aaronson is said to be available on loan due to a relegation clause that is now active in his Leeds contract.

Marco Silva has identified the US international as a transfer target that he wants to capture ahead of the new Premier League season.

Will Brenden Aaronson leave Leeds?
Carlton Palmer expects Aaronson to depart Leeds this summer, whether it be on loan or on a permanent basis.

The 57-year-old has identified the potential cost of the player's salary as a key reason for why the midfielder's future may lie elsewhere next season.

"Fulham are said to be interested in Leeds' American midfielder player Brenden Aaronson on loan," Palmer told Football League World.

"It appears that Brenden has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave the club on loan should Leeds get relegated.

"But, as it stands at the moment, Fulham have not met the full conditions of the loan agreement.

"I would expect the player to depart on loan, if not permanently, this summer given his salary."

How much did Leeds pay for Aaronson?
Aaronson was signed by Leeds last summer in a deal worth a reported £24.7 million from Austrian outfit RB Salzburg.

The 22-year-old featured 36 times in the top flight for the Whites, contributing one goal and three assists.

But a 19th place finish in the table has seen Leeds make their return to the Championship after a three-year stint in the Premier League.

A new manager has yet to be appointed at Elland Road, with the club hoping whoever takes charge will be able to steer the team back into the top flight at the first time of asking.

Should Fulham pursue a deal to sign Aaronson?
Aaronson is a talented player that didn't quite live up to expectations last season.

Perhaps a move away from the club would be a chance to have a fresh start elsewhere, even if it is only on loan.

Fulham over-performed what many thought they could do last season with a 10th place finish in the Premier League, but they will need to strengthen if they are to remain a top-half calibre side.

Silva is a good coach with plenty of experience and tactical knowledge, who could be what Aaronson needs to develop his game.

Journalist: London club hoping to make progress 'this week' in move for Leeds midfielder

Transfer expert Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Fulham are hoping to make progress "this week" in a move to sign Leeds United playmaker Brenden Aaronson – amid reports the Londoners made a loan offer for our no.7.

Aaronson, 22, failed to live up to the hype last term. Signed for £25m from Salzburg as Jesse Marsch's first arrival, Aaronson played 40 times for Leeds in all competitions – but scored just one goal, laying on three Leeds assists.

The Mail report Fulham have made an official approach to sign Aaronson on loan. The report claims clubs can sign Leeds players without rejection, if they offer to pay 100% of the player's wages – due to a relegation release clause.

Now, Jones delivers an update on the situation regarding Aaronson and Fulham. A club that boast two of Aaronson's USMNT teammates in Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson. He says Fulham want to make progress in the coming days.

"The way he presses and gets on the ball, tries to make things happen. He would be a really good foil for Mitrovic in that sense. It's something that Fulham are looking at. I think they're hoping to make some headway on it this week."

Jones: Fulham hoping to make progress in move for Aaronson this week
It would be a good move for Aaronson, if the USMNT man can secure assurances that he will be first choice. Fulham have Andreas Pereira, who often played in front of Harrison Reed and Joao Palhinha throughout the 22-23 season.

Would Aaronson start over Pereira? Unlikely. But, he does offer versatility and that could see him win a place in the Fulham side, perhaps out wide. But Aaronson needs game time and perhaps, he will struggle to get that at Fulham.

Fulham will host Cardiff City in a behind closed-doors pre-season friendly at Motspur Park before heading to America for the Premier League Summer Series, according to a report from Wales this morning.

Cardiff announced several behind closed doors games on their official website this morning with one fixture to be confirmed. QPR looking to sign Larkeche and are set to release Hamalainen

QPR are looking to sign French left-back Ziyad Larkeche, who is being released by Fulham.

The 20-year-old moved to west London from Paris St-Germain three years ago and was on loan at Barnsley last season.

He has been lined up as cover for Kenneth Paal and is set to replace Niko Hamalainen, who is on his way out of Loftus Road.

Hamalainen has been at QPR since 2014 and has a year remaining on his contract.

However, the Finland international has been out of the first-team picture for some time and the club are set to release him.

Boss Gareth Ainsworth has therefore moved to bring in an alternative back-up for Paal.

Larkeche is an attacking full-back and Fulham fought off competition from a number of European clubs to sign him.

Fulham: Roma chief receives Ibanez interest
The Brazilian is wanted at Craven Cottage.

Roma chief Tiago Pinto has received interest from Fulham over signing defender Roger Ibanez after his latest trip to London, according to reports.

Who will sign for Fulham this summer?
Marco Silva will be looking to build upon what was a successful first campaign back in the top flight, with Fulham securing a mid-table finish and comfortably avoiding relegation.

In what was a memorable season in parts, the Whites finished above west London rivals Chelsea, as Silva even mounted a challenge for European qualification over much of 2022/2023.

While they fell just short of Aston Villa, Brentford and Liverpool in that regard, the foundations are certainly there, with Fulham now turning their attention to the transfer market.

There have been reports of many targets, particularly midfield, as Man United's Fred, Southampton star James Ward-Prowse and Lyon's Romain Favre attract their interest.

Defence is also said to be a priority position for Silva, with Fulham reportedly eyeing moves for Leicester City full-back, Timothy Castagne, Norwich's Max Aarons and centre-back Igor from Fiorentina.

The latter man, however, isn't the only Brazilian defender from Serie A who Fulham hold a firm interest in.

According to Italian media outlet RomaGialloRossa.it, they are also targeting Ibanez from Roma, with their transfer chief Pinto receiving an expression of interest from Fulham after a trip to London.

Pinto has been in the English capital for two reasons, as he looks to seal a deal for striker Gianluca Scamacca from West Ham and find suitors for Ibanez.

The transfer chief "collects Fulham's interest" in the South American, and while that is yet to evolve into concrete negotiations, Silva's side have apparently expressed their desire to sign him.

Who is Roger Ibanez?
The 24-year-old was one of Roma's best defensive assets last season, at least statistically, with WhoScored detailing that none of Jose Mourinho's other players made more top flight interceptions per 90 over 22/23.

Ibanez also sits tops Roma's charts for successful tackles per match alongside Bryan Cristante, all whilst averaging a solid 88% pass accuracy out from the back as a brilliant ball-playing defender (WhoScored).

Mourinho, speaking to the press last season, called Ibanez an "untouchable" in his starting eleven and praised the player's attitude.

"When we went to Seville to face Real Betis earlier this season, the morning of the game I saw him and thought it was going to be impossible for him to play. And yet he played," said Mourinho.

"He's one who always fronts up. When we win, we all win together. When we lose, we all lose together. For me he is untouchable."

Fulham Welcomes Royal Caribbean International As Official Family Partner

Fulham Football Club is delighted to welcome Royal Caribbean International as Official Family Partner for the 2023/24 season.

The Royal Caribbean logo will feature on the front of shirt for all of Fulham's Academy teams and on the back of Fulham FC Women's shirts.

For more than 50 years, Royal Caribbean has created memorable family holidays and getaways for friends around the world. Together with the Club, Royal Caribbean will deliver family-focused matchday experiences, in addition to digital and in-stadium branding.

Fulham keen on signing Callum Hudson-Odoi

Callum Hudson-Odoi has been linked with a summer move away from Chelsea, with Fulham interested in signing him.

A report from The Guardian claims that Fulham are keen on signing Callum Hudson-Odoi, and they have already been in touch with the Blues regarding a summer transfer. Apparently, the youngster is valued at £15 million, and Fulham certainly have the financial resources to get the deal done.

The talented young winger was on loan at Bayer Leverkusen last season. But he was not a regular starter for the German club. He played just over 600 minutes in the league, and he needs to play more often at this stage of his career.

It is evident that the youngster does not have a future at Chelsea. So a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge would be ideal for him. Hudson-Odoi he was regarded as one of the best young talents in English football when he broke through to the first-team scene at Chelsea.

The player is still only 22 and has plenty of time to get his career back on track and fulfil his tremendous potential. Perhaps a move to Fulham would be ideal for him. He is likely to get ample game time with the Cottagers, who need attacking reinforcements. The Chelsea winger can operate on either flank, and his versatility will be an added bonus.

The 22-year-old has now entered the final year of his contract with Chelsea. So the Blues will not want to lose him on a free transfer next year. It makes sense for them to cash in on him right now. Hudson-Odoi has shown his quality in the Premier League in the past, and he certainly has the quality to establish himself as a key player for Fulham.

Clubs like AC Milan and Nottingham Forest have been linked with the player in recent weeks as well. So it remains to be seen whether Fulham can get the deal across the line. The Cottagers had an impressive season under Marco Silva last season, and they will be looking to build on that and establish themselves as a top-half side.

Signings like Callum Hudson-Odoi will certainly help them improve. The 22-year-old could be a key player for them in the long term if he manages to hit the ground running. With former Chelsea winger Willian also reinvigorated at Craven Cottage, a move to Fulham might improve Hudson-Odoi's fortunes.

Fulham make £2m Borza bid
Fulham have made a £2m offer for FCV Farul Constanta full back Andrei Borza, according to reports from Romania.

The Premier League side have tracked the teenage prodigy all season and have been impressed by the seventeen year-old left back's adventurous instincts. Borza scored three goals in 33 league appearances as Farul won their first league title in the club's history and had attracted interests from scouts all across Europe. The prospect of moving to England and playing in the Premier League appeals to the youngster, who emerged from the Gheorge Hagi academy, and is considered to be one of the brightest prospects Romanian football has produced in recent years.

Fulham would likely slot Borza initially in their category-one academy, with Ziyad Larkeche set to leave at the end of contract tomorrow, but the club's scouts believe Borza, who only missed out on his senior international debut over the summer due to logistical problems, could soon step up to first-team level. He fits the profile of an attacking full-back preferred by Marco Silva, which could become more relevant as American international Antonee Robinson enters the final year of his contract at Craven Cottage.

Fulham interest in Brazilian now 'cooling down' – Have turned their attention to compatriot

Fulham appear to be pulling away from a deal for Fiorentina defender Igor as they prefer a deal for AS Roma's Roger Ibañez.

That's according to Firenze Viola, who say that the track which had been leading Igor to the Premier League is 'cooling down' for now.

They explain that Fulham have 'long been interested' in a deal for the Brazilian defender and appeared to be moving for him as a potential replacement for Tosin Adarabioyo, who looks set to leave Craven Cottage this summer.

However, a deal is not advancing at this moment in time and that is because, according to the website's information, Fulham are instead 'turning' to Roma's Ibañez instead.

That means Igor has been cast to one side for the time being, although he is still likely to be on the move as he has 'many options' in other leagues, with some of them ready to 'take decisive steps' for him.

Fulham do not appear to be one of them after all, instead turning their attention to the Brazilian's compatriot to bolster Marco Silva's squad.

The players set to leave Fulham this summer - and seven who could follow them out the door
The Cottagers could be in line for a busy summer transfer window.

Fulham vastly outperformed all prior expectations of them last season. Widely tipped for a relegation battle following their promotion from the Championship, the Cottagers instead ticked along at a steady enough rate and were able to finish comfortably in mid-table.

Now, however, comes the tricky part. An infamously difficult second season will be perilous to navigate, although Marco Silva's men can give themselves the best chance possible of doing so by recruiting well this summer. But while most of the focus will be on incomings, there could well be more than a few departures too. We've taken a closer look at who could be bidding farewell to the Cottage below.

Joe Bryan - Will Leave
One of several players who will be leaving Fulham at the end of June, Joe Bryan has been at the club since 2018, but spent last season out on loan in France with OGC Nice. In recent days, it has been reported that the full-back is edging closer and closer towards an agreement with Championship outfit Millwall.

Shane Duffy - Will Leave
While Bryan's next destination remains undecided, Shane Duffy's is very much set in stone. The towering Irishman is off to Norwich City at the start of July, with the deal confirmed earlier this month. The former Brighton defender leaves Fulham after making just seven appearances.

Paulo Gazzaniga - Will Leave
The Argentine goalkeeper has spent the past few months in Spain with Girona, and after failing to secure a new contract in west London, he will make his move permanent at the end of June. Now 31, he should offer a decent amount of experience to the La Liga outfit.

Steven Sessegnon - Will Leave
An academy graduate, alongside twin brother Ryan, Steven Sessegnon has never really hit the heights that he might have hoped to. During his time with Fulham, the versatile talent had loan spells with Bristol City, Plymouth Argyle, and most recently, Charlton Athletic. With no contract offered, he will be leaving in the coming days.

Neeskens Kebano - Could Leave
The Congolese winger has been offered a new contract by Fulham, but as yet, there is no word on whether or not he will accept it. There has been talk of a potential move to the Championship, with Sunderland reportedly among those keeping an eye on his situation, but as things stand, nothing is concrete.

Willian - Could Leave
Admittedly, very very unlikely, but until the ink is dry on Fulham's new contract offer, anything could happen. For his part, Willian has made it clear that he would like to stay at Craven Cottage, saying recently: "I feel the same affection for the Fulham fans [as at Chelsea]. If I can stay here, it would be good." Surely a matter of when, rather than if, his renewed deal is confirmed.

Joao Palhinha - Could Leave
The first of several Fulham players who have reportedly been attracting significant transfer interest of late, the midfielder is said to be a target for the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, among others. The Cottagers would no doubt love to keep him, but if a big offer did come in, who knows what might happen.

Tosan Adarabioyo - Could Leave
Adarabioyo has shone in recent months, and has done more than enough to establish himself as a vital cog in this Fulham side. The problem, however, is that his current deal expires next summer, and with talks over an extension having reportedly broken down, there are suggestions that he could be sold in the coming weeks to avoid losing him on a free transfer this time next year.

Antonee Robinson - Could Leave
The American full-back is another who has really impressed since making the transition to Premier League football, and his performances have not gone unnoticed. Among those following his progress are the nouveau riche Newcastle United, but whether the Magpies look to firm up that interest remains to be seen.

Tom Cairney - Could Leave
Reportedly in line for a role in Leicester City's Championship rebuild, it is understood that the Foxes could come knocking for the Scotland international any day now. Whether Fulham will acquiesce to his exit is unclear, but it's certainly not out of the realms of possibility.

Rodrigo Muniz - Could Leave
The Brazilian spent last season out on loan with Middlesbrough, and is said to be drawing more than a few admiring glances from South America. Will anything come to fruitition? Perhaps, but at the very least, you would have to argue that were Muniz to leave, nobody would be too shocked.

Ibañez replaces Igor as Fulham's top defensive target
Fulham have cooled their interested in Fiorentina centre back Igor Julio and made the Roma defender Roger Ibañez their top defensive target, according to reports from Italy.

The Whites had trailed Igor Junior, who helped the Viola reach the final of the Europa Conference League this season, for many months and had open discussions with both Fiorentina and the Brazilian defender's representatives about a potential move after it became clear that the 25 year-old would be made available for transfer this summer.

But talks with Roma's technical director Tiago Pinto appear to have opened the door to a possible deal for Ibañez, who has been in London over the last week or so. Firenze Viola echoes reports from a number of Italian journalists this afternoon that suggest that the Fulham hierarchy have 'turned their attention' to the 24 year-old Brazilian international, who is expected to be allowed to leave by Jose Mourinho this summer.

The Cottagers are keen to add defensive depth to their squad with doubts remaining over just when veteran Tim Ream, who fractured his arm towards the end of last season, will return to first team action and the departure of Shane Duffy. Tosin Adarabioyo, a key figure in Marco Silva's plans since the Portuguese head coach arrived at Craven Cottage, could also leave the club in this window – and Fulham are keen to add continental experience to their group.

Fulham challenge Tottenham for Roma defender Ibanez

Fulham seem determined to get their new defender from Serie A, but after talks with Fiorentina for Igor hit problems, then turned to Roma centre-back and Tottenham Hotspur target Roger Ibanez.

According to Tuttomercatoweb and Firenzeviola.it, the negotiations have been going on between Fulham and Fiorentina for a few weeks, but without a great deal of progress.

The situation has become so frustrating that the Premier League side is prepared to turn to a different target, albeit still on Italian soil with a Brazilian flavour.

Their next option is Ibanez, who Roma are eager to sell before June 30 in order to help balance the books.

The asking price had been €30m, but with time running short and other deals going through, they could be talked into lowering that slightly with the inclusion of bonuses.

The 24-year-old has two senior caps for Brazil and had already been linked with a potential Tottenham Hotspur move this summer.

Fulham and Nottingham Forest both very keen on Greece international – Club want €15-20m for transfer

Fulham and Nottingham Forest are among the 'interested parties' considering a potential deal for Stuttgart defender Konstantinos Mavropanos this summer.

That's according to BILD, who say that a transfer is very much on the cards for the Greek defender but it 'could take some time' before it happens.

The newspaper explains that there are many interested parties for the 25-year-old centre-back, who has impressed with the German side since signing from Arsenal.

They say 'it is no secret' that Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis 'would like' to sign the defender for his side next season but Fulham 'are also interested' in a deal.

There is also interest in the Bundesliga and Italy, where Eintracht Frankfurt and Napoli have also had their eyes on Mavropanos for weeks.

BILD reports that Stuttgart are yet to receive an offer for the defender but are open to a sale. The player has a release clause worth €25m but they would do a deal for €15-20m.

The expectation is that the 'poker game' around the player will drag on for a few more weeks and Mavropanos is personally 'assuming' he will start pre-season with Stuttgart once his holidays are over.

He is expected back in Neukirchen on July 17th after international duty with Greece extended his holidays and he has not given notice to leave his flat in Stuttgart, another hint he doesn't think a deal is on the cards.

Because the international transfer market doesn't usually pick up pace until August, neither club are expecting movement and will instead wait for options to be presented to them.

Whether there are bids from Fulham or Nottingham Forest remains to be seen but in Germany they believe that both will be in the mix.

Fulham and Forest set to fight for Mavropanos
Fulham are mulling a move for Stuttgart centre back Konstantinos Mavropanos according to reports from Germany – but may have to fight off interest from Nottingham Forest among a number of other suitors.

Bild claims that a deal is on the cards for former Arsenal defender but that 'it could take some time' to materialise. The Greek international is a target for his compatriot Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest, but Fulham have identified the 25 year-old, who has been one of the Bundesliga's most consistent performers since signing for Stuttgart, as a potential addition to their own back line ahead of the new season.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Napoli are monitoring the situation, but Mavropanos is thought to relish the opportunity of returning to the Premier League. The German tabloid claims that Stuttgart are willing to sell the defender for between £13m and £18m – which is significantly lower than his release clause. The player believes he will return to Neukirchen for pre-season training and that a move will only be finalised in the closing weeks of the transfer window.

The 6ft 4in central defender, who has won nineteen senior caps for Greece, has made 89 appearances in three seasons with Stuttgart, scoring eight goals. He only played eight games for Arsenal but has matured in Germany and scored after only 44 seconds as his club hammered Hamburg in this season's Bundesliga relegation play off.
