Quote from: General on August 26, 2023, 05:37:58 PMAhh. OK.. not as promising as I thought. Tight angle, under pressure, effort not fully controlled..

Thought it may have been a 1-on-1 through the middle.
But look at the whole run:

Impressive speed with the ball over that distance. He outpaced the Arsenal defender who didn't have to run with the ball unlike Adama. Outmuscled him too. I think he can be a real asset this season.

What an absolute unit of a man.
Someone once asked me, "Why Fulham?".
My response, "Well, lad, you just haven't seen the light yet"

I think he's gonna be a really good signing. If we can get a really good left winger as well got a lot of threat on the flanks.

One particular feature of Jimenez's game today, was his ability to win aerial challenges and direct the ball to dangerous areas. With Leno tending to play the ball long compared to usual, you can see how Jimenez's ability to win and direct flicks could become a big plus for the team

Really enjoyed the game today, apart from the drenching before half time. The team played with passion and purpose. I thought they all played well. A mention to Bobby. He works so hard, especially in his defensive responsibilities. But he also has a lot of skill. Three times in the second half he instantly controlled long balls swept over to him and set up attacking opportunities.

I appreciate that and I saw the whole run. It is impressive and its a great asset to have, especially late in the game and on the counter attack.

That said though, it was still a tight angle.

Can't see this video playback, but wondering if anyone thinks he could've done better by forcing the ball into more of a central position.

He's clearly got the pace, but kept wider and it hindered his final shot..

It's nothing major and I'd like to think with a bit of work it could be sorted easily given his pace, but towards the end  of his run I felt his pace took his impact out of the game - I.e. he was going so fast he didn't place the shot as calmly or accurately as he could've, more of a snap shot and then after went to the floor and towards the advertising boards and the pace also meant not only did the arsenal players fail to keep up, but so did the fulham players which limited the impact.

We've got to find a way to utilise him more effectively.

Yeah, I've noticed Jiminez winning most of the headers that went his way. If he can get a flick on for Adama then they'll cause shower defences some trouble

One way to use him effectively is to have Leno lump it to Jimenez and flicking the ball onto Adama.

Quote from: FFC1987 on August 26, 2023, 06:00:39 PMHow was Jimenez today? He got a few mentions by Darren Bent about how well he was doing despite lack of service etc.
He was good. Battled hard, won tons of headers. Was fouled multiple times but the referee usually did not give it. Had a spectacular bicycle kick effort in the first half.

I was most impressed with how he consistently was winning headers on the long balls. To be honest, he is much better at those than Mitro. His athleticism and timing is excellent.

That game was a lovely surprise and a wave at ownership that we are still here despite your rasslin.

I thought Jimi played real well compared to the first 2. Bobby looked like a man possessed when they had the ball.

I am glad you are all proud of the team performance as you should be.

Remember what i wrote yesterday.
NEVER SURRENDER

A Memorable win or a Glorious defeat, or an HONOURABLE DRAW.
Yes an Honourable fighting draw with one man shy.
I never want to read talk about being beaten easily by a team before a ball is kicked, shame on you who are soft and timid and defeatist.

I hope the doom mongers and milky supporters on here realise now how gritty and resilient a team can be when players stand up and be counted.
Silvas tactics were excellent and the players followed instructions.

I said have faith in your team, it was a moral victory which was magnified by having ten men.

Can you imagine the team spirit and confidence that will merge from the Fulham dressing room after this match.
Be Proud and stand up straight and salute Mighty Fulham.

Non Cessio

Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

Never forget your Roots.

Big chance to have a player on the opposite side for a tap in as Traore had just enough space to chip across the goal face
Unfortunately no one else in the team is quick enough to support him.
Most of the Arsenal team could not keep up with him either mind you.
Salina did extremely well to stay with him up to put in a challenge from behind.

An observation on Saka's penalty against Fulham, about having it on the edge of the spot to gain an advantage (this caused more delay than the Bassey goal kick). Why not instead of a white spot, have a white circle and the ball has to be placed in the center of that before the kick can be taken. Same with corners make the arc bigger and tell them they have to have the ball inside it.

What I don't get is why do players do it? Is there really an advantage of having the ball placed 5 centimeters closer to the goal. Same with corners. I just don't get players that do that.

To be honest I've always done it when playing football - but perhaps for different reasons... penalty spots and corner markings are often more worn out so there's a (marginally) greater chance of miss hitting it. I haven't played on a premier league quality pitch before where this shouldn't be an issue... but neither did these players when playing youth football/having a kick about in the park, so maybe the habit stuck...

I am old school and think this modern placing on the edge of a line is a nonsense. Corners should be taken within the quadrant and penalty kicks taken from on the spot.

Now I agree that the penalty spot can be roughed up and often deliberately by defenders. But that is the lottery of football. We seem to change the rules to suit the mood instead of just sticking to simple rules.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Absolutely agree.

Let's not forget saka has a demonstrated history of bottling penalties when it matters
