Club 'still in contact' with Fulham man despite going quiet on rumours – Agreement in place, manager spoke to him on phone
Those responsible at Bayern Munich remain in contact with Fulham star Joao Palhinha about a move in January, despite now refusing to discuss the topic.

That's according to SportBILD, who say Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel spoke to Palhinha after his move from Fulham collapsed on deadline day of the summer transfer window.

The newspaper explains that everything had been done for Palhinha to make the move to Bavaria, including the medical, but Fulham refused to send the paperwork after failing to secure a replacement.

He ended up staying at Craven Cottage and even signing a new deal, but Bayern remain keen on him and 'the responsible persons' are 'still in contact' with the 28-year-old.

They're aware that Palhinha is keen on the move too, he even had tears in his eyes when the deal collapsed and he had to head back to England, and an agreement was reached for Bayern to 'approach the deal again' in the January window.

The German champions hope that they can even get Palhinha for a lower sum than the €65m they agreed with Fulham this summer.

Thomas Tuchel spoke to the midfielder on the phone after the deal broke down, presumably to confirm his and Bayern's stance on matters, but the player is unsure whether anything will come of it and the German coach is looking at alternatives.

That is, presumably, why Bayern are refusing to talk about the subject any further, with a report earlier this week detailing their new stance on talking about the player and the failed move.

Man of the Match Result: Crystal Palace

Antonee Robinson's energetic performance has seen him voted Man of the Match from Fulham's goalless draw with Crystal Palace.

Restored to the starting XI having missed the Luton Town win with a minor injury, Jedi was solid in defence and a threat in attack, racking up the yards as he bombarded up and down the left flank all game.

"I was blowing!" Robinson told FFCtv afterwards. "It was nice to be able to get straight back in the team, I appreciate the Gaffer putting me back in.

"I felt good. It felt good to be back out there, I didn't feel like anything was holding me back, so I enjoyed it."

The left-back was the overwhelming choice for Man of the Match, with more than half (50.4%) of voters giving him their backing.

With another clean sheet in the books, it was the defensive players who dominated the voting, with Timothy Castagne and Issa Diop coming in second and third with 11.1% and 9.2%, respectively.

Fulham admirers of Leicester City first-team starter
At present Leicester City are firing on all cylinders in the Championship under Enzo Maresca.

After eight games, the Foxes are level on points (21) with Ipswich Town at the top of the table, and sit in first place by virtue of a better goal difference.

Loading official content

They've won seven of their matches so far, scoring 14 and letting in just five.

There's a long, long way to go in the 2023/24 season of course, but Maresca's squad have already hit a sweet spot and have that air of confidence and swagger when they take to the pitch that's almost worth a goal on its own.

Each player has played their part so far so any thoughts of other clubs coming in to acquire them is likely to be given short shrift by the Leicester board.

According to talkSPORT, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is interesting Premier League outfit, Fulham, with Marco Silva clearly keen to add more quality to the Cottagers squad.

The outlet also note that the 25-year-old is contracted to the club until 2027, so even if the player was interested by their approach, Leicester are unlikely to let him go on the cheap.

Furthermore, aside from loans at Blackpool and Luton Town, Dewsbury-Hall has been at the club since 2006, so it would be a huge wrench for him to leave.

Whilst you can never say never in football Fulham have got their work cut out getting this one over the line, more so if Leicester continue their season in the same manner as which they've started it.

Bernd Leno criticises Mikel Arteta's goalkeeper philosophy after Aaron Ramsdale decision

Aaron Ramsdale has lost his place as Arsenal's starting goalkeeper
Bernd Leno see similarities with his own fall down the Gunners pecking order
Critical of Mikel Arteta for suggesting that goalkeepers could be subbed

Former Arsenal number one Bernd Leno has hit out at Gunners boss Mikel Arteta and the way he uses goalkeepers after making the decision to replace Aaron Ramsdale with David Raya.

Despite Ramsdale enjoying a stellar 2022/23 that saw him named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, Arsenal signed David Raya on an initial loan from Brentford during the summer.

Ramsdale initially kept his place but was dropped after the international break and has been on the bench for the last two games against Everton and PSV Eindhoven in the Premier League and Champions League respectively. Raya also started again in Sunday's north London derby.

Leno was replaced by Ramsdale in similar circumstances two years ago and has now said he feels sorry for his former Gunners teammate.

"There were a couple of excuses I didn't understand and I have to say, unfortunately, it's more or less the same with Ramsdale. It has happened [again] after the international break. I know how [Aaron] feels, there are some similarities," Leno told The Times.

During his short managerial career to date, Arteta has developed a reputation for trying to put fresh takes on certain situations. He has previously wanted to rename substitutes as "impactors" to boost morale among players not named in the starting XI.

Last week, Arteta spoke about the possibility of substituting a goalkeeper like he would any other position on the pitch if the in-game circumstances or tactics called for it.

Leno firmly disagrees with the idea: "Our position is too passive. As a winger you can have an impact in the game because you get on the ball but as the keeper usually you just react.

"I experienced a substitution just the one time in my career when Petr Cech got injured and I was lucky it was half-time, but if you come on at minute 60 and you have been sitting on the bench, you are not in the flow, that's very tough. I'm looking forward to seeing if he [Arteta] will do that in a game or if he just said that, but I don't think many [managers] would do that.

"Goalkeeper is a special position and should be treated as special, I think. Because you need consistency. A good example was when I first came to Arsenal, I played in the Premier League and Cech played in the Europa League and the cup games and I spoke to the defenders and they said they don't feel comfortable with that, with different keepers and different characteristics."

Leno added that the need to build a "relationship" between defenders and a regular goalkeeper supersedes the idea that a manager could choose a goalie for a given game depending on whether they expect to have lots of possession or face lots of crosses.

Fulham fightback floors Millwall
Second half strikes from Rachel Panting, Megalie Mendes and Ede Buchele helped Fulham FC Women fightback to win a five-goal thriller against Millwall Lionesses at Motspur Park this afternoon.

The Whites registered their fourth successive league win but they were made to work exceptionally hard by a spirited Millwall outfit who had seen their manager Kevin Boanas resign on Friday following a dispiriting 2-0 defeat to Dulwich Hamlet last weekend. After a moving minute's silence in memory of Maddy Cusack, Fulham began with the confidence of a side that had scored fourteen goals in their last three games and should have gone in front in the second minute when Georgia Heasman played Sophie Manzi in behind the Millwall defence. The striker skipped around the goalkeeper but slotted agonisingly wide.

Manzi had another chance to give the hosts the lead seven minutes later when Fulham were awarded a penalty for handball but Chrissie Wiggins saved her spot-kick as well as the follow-up. The visitors then threatened as Chloe Burr found space on the left and floated a cross in that was headed into the arms of Ellie Parker by Grace Seely. Manzi was denied by another Wiggins' reaction save before Rachel Panting tested the Millwall custodian's reflexes with a fierce rising right-footed drive.

The Lionesses took the lead somewhat against the run of play nine minutes before half time. Burr was given too much to cross from the left and Melissa Jones drifted away from Ella Tagliavini and looped an impressive header into the top corner. Panting almost delivered an immediate riposte but her close range finish from Madi Parsonson's cross was bravely blocked by Tyra Poole. The Lionesses then had a goal disallowed for offisde but still went in with a lead at half time.

Fulham started with a renewed sense of ambition with Panting places an effort wide of the far post before the former Oxford forward stabbed wide from close range after a floated free-kick from Mendes. The Whites kept up the pressure with Lilly Lambard seeing a speculative strike deflected behind for a corner. Panting poked Fulham level when she was found by Parsonson's perfect corner and Steve Jaye's side lead just three minutes later.

The second goal was a beautifully worked move. Wing-back Mendes finished excellently after Adamson and Panting had linked up impressively. Panting then held up the ball brilliantly on the edge of the box before teeing up Adamson, who skied a shot from a good position. The game was in the balance until almost the last minute of the ninety. Fulham, with their defence benefiting from the recent return to the starting line-up of skipper Mary Southgate, had chances to extend their lead most notably when Panting stabbed wide from Parsonson's flag-kick.

The Whites looked to have wrapped up the points when tremendous tenacity from Parsonson, who had played through the pain of a knee injury, won the ball back on the right flank and threaded a peach of pass through for the bright Buchele, who sprinted into the penalty area and caressed a cool finish into the corner. Millwall did keep their hosts sweating until the very end after Ellen Napper headed into from a corner in the closing stages – but the Whites held on for a big win.

Fulham coach speaks out about Bayern Munich's João Palhinha pursuit
Marco Silva is not sure he will get to keep his guy.

Will João Palhinha be the one that got away? The Fulham striker and Portuguese international was a big deadline day miss for Bayern Munich, who had the player complete his medicals in Munich and take photos for a media presentation that was not to be — as time ran out for the Premier League club to find a replacement and greenlight the switch.

But the January transfer window is not so far away, and Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel might still be in the hunt for a No. 6 to add some steel to his Bavarian midfield. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka currently patrol those ranks.

Fulham coach Marco Silva weighed in on the possibilities ahead.
