Tim Ream: 300 Not Out

"Personally, it's to come in here and contribute."

That was Tim Ream's answer in August 2015 when asked for his aims and ambitions upon joining Fulham. Safe to say, he's done that.

The Club's transfer business going into our second season in the Championship saw us bring in a number of individuals who knew England's second tier well. Ream, fresh from winning consecutive Player of the Season awards at Bolton Wanderers, fit the bill.

Things started well. Thrown straight into the team, Ream tasted victory three times in his first four league outings as Fulham defeated Rotherham United, Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers, our local rivals who had also fiercely courted Ream during the off-season.

But six weeks later, a 5-2 home loss to Birmingham City cost Head Coach Kit Symons his job. An extensive search for his replacement began, with Peter Grant and Stuart Gray each having a spell in caretaker charge before the appointment of Slaviša Jokanović in the December.

After starting Ream just 10 times in the second half of 2015/16, Jokanović pulled the defender to one side at the end of the campaign to inform him he would not be needed going forward.

"I remember that conversation like it was yesterday," Ream says. "Sitting in his office and being told that I was surplus to requirements, it's not something that you ever want to hear as a player.

"But you can take it one of two ways – you can move on and run away from it, or you can face up and make it a challenge. He didn't make it a challenge to me, I made it a challenge for myself. That's probably one of my favourite stories.

"And to his credit, after that next pre-season – and, again, I remember this like it was yesterday – he stopped me at the airport at the end of the tour and tells me that I'm not going anywhere, that I'll definitely have an impact that season.

"I think from Boxing Day onwards, away at Ipswich, I didn't miss a game. And like I said, credit to him for changing his mind, but I saw it as a challenge and it spurred me on to go and become a better player, to do the things he was asking, to be able to adapt.

"Without that interaction and that story, I don't know if I'd be sitting here today having 300 appearances."

It takes a brave man to try and prove Slaviša Jokanović wrong, but the Serbian was happy to hold his hands up, citing Ream's attitude as an example to the rest of the team.

"I didn't want Tim in the team," Slav told next week's episode of Fulham Fix. "I called him and told him, 'listen, Tim, you won't play with me, it's better for you if you look for another team.' Day by day he improved. He wanted to show me and explain to me that I was wrong, and show me that he was a good player.

"He did a good job, and was a really, really important player for the style that we played. And I didn't have any problem recognising this in front of all the team. I said this guy is an example for all of you, because I didn't want him here, but he deserved to be skipper of the team by the end.

"It was a positive example for me. You have to respect his work, how he improved in this period."

Two games missed through injury aside in the winter of 2017, Ream played every single minute of our first promotion season. Such was his consistency, he absolutely coasted his way to winning our Player of the Season – some feat considering the exploits of one Ryan Sessegnon that year.

The next four campaigns are well documented, with each of them featuring either a relegation or promotion.

The last of those – the Championship winning season – was under Ream's seventh Fulham manager Marco Silva, a man who placed his trust in the veteran defender as we tackled the nation's elite once more.

After a strong first half of a season which also saw him take in his first World Cup, Ream had a Boxing Day to remember, scoring his maiden Premier League goal just hours before the Club announced he had signed a new contract.

"He's been unbelievable since I joined the Club," said Silva at the time. "It's been a really impressive 18 months for him. Many people doubted him in the Premier League but he's playing at the same level he did last season. He deserved another year on his contract."

Ever present last season and this – barring a suspension and a broken arm – and he's duly reached a milestone that only 28 players have before in our 144 year history.

To add further context, the last time we celebrated a player making his 300th appearance for Fulham was a day that's best remembered for the result, when Simon Morgan was part of the side that won 2-1 at Carlisle United to all but confirm our promotion from the fourth tier.

Fast forward 26-and-a-half years, and Ream was leading the Whites to a 3-1 top flight victory over Sheffield United, ironically the team he made his debut against 299 appearances previously.

"It's a great number for him," Silva said. "It shows what it is to be a top professional. Tim is a top professional, to be able to play this big number of matches with a Fulham shirt. To see him enjoying these moments is even more important, and he deserves the credit."

Straight after that match, Tim Ream spoke with symmetry to that very first interview he gave, stressing that his motivation – from day one – has been to have an impact here.

"For me, personal milestones are great, right? They're a great achievement but it's not something where you go to a club thinking, 'I want to hit this mark.' You go to a club and want to have an imprint on the place, have an imprint on the team, on the club as a whole, on the fanbase. That's kind of the way I looked at it.

"But, at the end of the day, if you do things right, if you're able to adapt to different styles, different managers, different things that happen, and you stick around long enough, you reach those milestones. It's not something I thought about in August of 2015."

When you think of players who have had an imprint on the fabric of our Club in recent years, there's no doubting that Timothy Michael Ream is right near the top of the list.

Fulham FC retains 'a taste of Fitzdares' via partnership extension

Fitzdares has extended its partnership with Fulham FC as the bookmaker continues as the official UK betting partner of the South West London club.

Fitzdares will bring its 'unique style' to the club's new lounge where the company has commissioned art by Sports Illustrator Bill Butcher for the walls, to go along with 'distinctive' designs from Interior Designer Rossana Bossom.

Will Woodhams, Fitzdares CEO, commented: "When we started the Fitzdares Club four years ago it was beyond our wildest dreams to have a permanent location at a Premier League ground.

"Now, due to our brilliant friends at Fulham FC, we have created an unparalleled experience not only for our members, but for Fulham FC partners who get a little taste of Fitzdares on a matchday in the club's new partner lounge."

Following what was described as a highly successful partnership during the 2022/23 season – which included several matchday activations – the pair maintain a shared focus on 'sporting values, unforgettable moments and traditions'.

At the time of the original deal, Woodham highlighted that the partnership has its roots in the 19th century. The firm has also previously been named Racing Sportsbook of the Year, and has an exclusive members-only club in Mayfair called The Fitzdares Club.

"The incredible foundations which were created during the first year of the partnership between London's Original Football Club and the world's oldest bookmakers made it a natural decision to extend, we were delighted," added Jon Don-Carolis, Fulham FC Club Commercial Director.

"The added integration of the Fitzdares brand will bring a welcomed unique touch into the matchday hospitality offering. We look forward to creating more fun and engaging content together, while Fitzdares continue to promote the importance of responsible gambling to our fans."

Meanwhile, on select non-match days, Fitzdares will also host events for members including screenings of The Cheltenham Festival, Wimbledon, Royal Ascot and the occasional darts exhibition.

Fulham FC extends Fitzdares partnership
Fulham FC has agreed to an extension of its partnership with bookmaker Fitzdares until at least the end of 2024.

The Premier League side first welcomed the firm for the 2022/23 season, during which time Fulham fans enjoyed a variety of matchday activations. The partnership now promises to continue its focus on 'sporting values and traditions'.

It was also revealed that Fulham's official betting partner is expected to upgrade the Craven Cottage stadium with a premium 30-seater lounge that will deliver 'one of the best views in the Premier League'.

Commissioned by Fitzdares, the lounge will feature art by sports illustrator Bill Butcher and interior design by Rossana Bossom, who was also in charge of decorating Fitzdares' luxurious Mayfair Club and 5 Hertford Street venues.

Will Woodhams, Fitzdares CEO, said: "When we started the Fitzdares Club four years ago it was beyond our wildest dreams to have a permanent location at a Premier League ground.

"Now, due to our brilliant friends at Fulham FC, we have created an unparalleled experience not only for our members, but for Fulham FC partners who get a little taste of Fitzdares on a matchday in the club's new Partner Lounge."

Additionally, Fitzdares will host exclusive non-matchday events for members that will also screen highlights from the wider sports realm such as the Cheltenham Festival, Wimbledon, Royal Ascot and various darts exhibitions.

Fitzdares extend Mayfair Club theme to Fulham's Craven Cottage
October 13 – Premier League Fulham have extended their partnership with London bookmaker Fitzdares until the end of the current season on the back of a "highly successful" debut year for the partnership last season.

As part of the deal, the bookmaker has been given an extended hopsitality lounge at Craven Cottage equipped with 30 seats overlooking match day action, with full scope to decorate in line with their brand identity.

Fitzdares have commissioned art by acclaimed sports illustrator Bill Butcher to hang on the walls, as well as imprinting their own identity using interior designer Rossana Bossom, who also designed Fitzdares' Mayfair Club and 5 Hertford Street.

Will Woodhams, Fitzdares CEO, said: "When we started the Fitzdares Club four years ago it was beyond our wildest dreams to have a permanent location at a Premier League ground. Fulham continue their Premier League campaign away to league leaders Spurs, who are unbeaten after eight top flight games. Fans will have to wait until the international break has concluded, with the two London sides scheduled to clash on October 23.

'Didn't want Tim in the team' – How USMNT star Ream made manager eat his words en route to becoming a triple centurion at Fulham
Former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic admits that he "didn't want" Tim Ream in his team, but he was quickly made to eat his words by the USMNT star.

    Defender snubbed by Jokanovic
Worked his way back into favour
Spent over eight years in west London

WHAT HAPPENED?

The veteran defender was informed back in the summer of 2016 that he was surplus to requirements at Craven Cottage and free to find himself another club. Fast forward to the present and Ream is still in west London seven years later and has just reached the personal milestone of 300 appearances for the Cottagers.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Jokanovic happily concedes that he got a big call wrong, with the Serbian coach telling Fulham's official website: "I didn't want Tim in the team. I called him and told him, 'listen, Tim, you won't play with me, it's better for you if you look for another team.' Day by day he improved. He wanted to show me and explain to me that I was wrong, and show me that he was a good player. He did a good job, and was a really, really important player for the style that we played. And I didn't have any problem recognising this in front of all the team. I said this guy is an example for all of you, because I didn't want him here, but he deserved to be skipper of the team by the end. It was a positive example for me. You have to respect his work, how he improved in this period."

WHAT THEY SAID

Ream also fell out of favour in the 2020-21 campaign, but once again worked his way back to become club captain at Fulham. He has said of becoming a triple centurion: "For me, personal milestones are great, right? They're a great achievement but it's not something where you go to a club thinking, 'I want to hit this mark.' You go to a club and want to have an imprint on the place, have an imprint on the team, on the club as a whole, on the fanbase. That's kind of the way I looked at it. But, at the end of the day, if you do things right, if you're able to adapt to different styles, different managers, different things that happen, and you stick around long enough, you reach those milestones. It's not something I thought about in August of 2015 (when signing for Fulham)."

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Ream remains an integral part of the Fulham side at 36 years of age and, with 52 caps for the United States to his name, has stated a desire to play on both domestically and internationally through to a home World Cup in 2026.

Fulham teenager de Fougerolles impresses at Canada camp ahead of Japan friendly
It's been quite a week for Luc de Fougerolles, and it's not over yet.

The London-born defender, who qualifies for Canada through his Canadian-born father, turned 18 in Japan where he is wearing Canadian colours for the first time. De Fougerolles and the 44th-ranked Canadians take on No. 19 Japan on Friday in Niigata in an international friendly.

Interim Canada coach Mauro Biello is no stranger to the Fulham teenager, having called him up twice earlier this year to the Canadian under-20 team. But first COVID and then exams got in the way.

This time, there were no obstacles.

"Finally. It's been a long time coming," de Fougerolles said. "But I'm happy to be with the national team."

It's been quite a journey with the call-up to the senior side somewhat unexpected, despite regular contact with Biello.

De Fougerolles' father Jean is originally from Montreal but settled in England after coming to London to study.

A young Luc was spotted by both Fulham and Chelsea. After spending time at Fulham at the age of six, he had a tryout at Chelsea before returning to Fulham and joining the Cottagers' under-eight team.

"I've been there my whole life basically, knowing the people there (and) loving it" de Fougerolles said of Fulham, whose Craven Cottage home sits on the bank of the Thames.

While a Fulham fan growing up, he liked to watch former Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

Today, he is a regular starter in Premier League 2, which is made up of Premier League under-21 teams. And he saw first-team action for the Premier League team during its pre-season U.S. tour this summer against Chelsea and Aston Villa.

"A very good step-up. Playing some men's football which is obviously very good for me," said de Fougerolles, who has also trained with the first team.

De Fougerolles, who has visited family in Canada several times, has already impressed Biello.

"He's done really well," Biello said Thursday from Japan. "A young kid, he's blended in. He's brave on the ball, really confident. He's fearless defensively. It's really good to get him into the environment ... He fit right in."

De Fougerolles, who signed his first pro contract in April, plays both centre back and right back and is comfortable on the ball.

"I like to have the ball at my feet and I like to play out," he said.

Canada sat out the FIFA September international window, with Canada Soccer pointing to "financial constraints'' and its "inability to confirm an additional high-quality opponent.''

So the game against Japan serves as the Canadian men's team's one warm-up ahead of a pair of crucial November CONCACAF Nations League matches that serve as Copa America qualifiers.

Japan, the top-ranked team in Asia, is coming off September wins over No. 15 Germany (4-2) and No. 42 Turkey (4-1). And it plays No. 29 Tunisia in Kobe four days after the Canada game as it gears up for the start of its 2026 World Cup qualification campaign in November and the Asian Cup in January.

Goalkeeper Milan Borjan will captain Canada at the Denka Big Swan Stadium in Niigata. Alphonso Davies is expected to start at left fullback, as he does for Bayern Munich, rather than in a more forward attacking role.

Influential midfielder Stephen Eustaquio will miss the game through injury, however. Biello said Eustaquio arrived with a knock from a weekend game with Portugal's FC Porto and wasn't deemed fit to play.

Eustaquio has since returned home to rehab the injury. Canada did not call up a replacement, citing the difficulties in getting someone to Japan in time.

Canada has history in Niigata, losing 3-0 to Japan at the same venue at the 2001 Confederations Cup. Paul Stalteri, one of Biello's assistant coaches, was part of that Canadian squad.

The Canadian men are 1-2-0 all-time against Japan, winning 2-1 the last time they met — in a World Cup warm-up game last November.

Canada, along with the 11th-ranked U.S., No. 12 Mexico and No. 46 Costa Rica, has been drawn directly into the two-legged Nations League quarterfinals. The winners there qualify for the 2024 Copa America as well as the Nations League finals in March.

The quarterfinals losers will meet in a pair of play-In matches to determine the final two CONCACAF teams at Copa America.

Canada Soccer announced Thursday that the Canada return leg of the home-and-away quarterfinal will take place Nov. 21 at Toronto's BMO Field. Canada's opponent will be determined during the October international window.

The Canadian men are 4-2-2 this year, last playing in July when they lost a penalty shootout to the U.S. in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal in Cincinnati. Both 2023 losses came at the hands of the Americans.

The Japanese roster includes Liverpool's Wataru Endo, Monaco's Takumi Minamino, Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma and Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo. But Lazio's Daichi Kamada and Freiburg's Ritsu Doan miss out, reportedly for conditioning reasons.

The Japanese won their group at last year's World Cup, posting 2-1 wins over No. 10 Spain and Germany around a 1-0 loss to Costa Rica, before falling to No. 6 Croatia in a penalty shootout in the round of 16.

Canada, in its first trip the men's World Cup in 36 years, exited Qatar after first-round losses to No. 5 Belgium, Croatia and No. 13 Morocco.

Fulham man defended after recent comments – 'Healthy personality', deserves praise not criticism
Fulham defender Timothy Castagne deserves praise and not criticism for his recent comments on teammate Thibaut Courtois this week.

That's according to Belgium icon Philippe Albert, who says the full-back showed his 'healthy personality' in his so-called controversial comments this week.

Castagne is facing criticism after commenting on Courtois in a press conference this week amid the ongoing battle between the Real Madrid goalkeeper and Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco.

The pair have had a very falling out over the Belgium captaincy, with Courtois walking out of the squad in June after refusing to play in a European qualifier against Estonia.

The pair have not had any contact since and there is now an ongoing debate about what the future holds, particularly ahead of Belgium's potential participation in the Euros next summer.

The Real Madrid star is currently out injured after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture but is expected to return around March, meaning he could be in contention for Domenic Tedesco's squad.

That question was raised to Fulham's Castagne this week, who openly admitted that it would be strange for the goalkeeper to just return as if nothing had happened previously.

This led to criticism for him from some quarters, but Albert has defended him, insisting he was not wrong in what he said.

"I carefully read the interview that Castagne gave you. The long passage on Courtois was of a frankness which corresponds well to Timothy's healthy personality," he said in Le Soir.

"There is no desire to cause harm, just an observation. Without becoming the official spokesperson, the Fulham player only said out loud what the group was probably thinking quietly.

"If we still need to clarify things in relation to Courtois' flight after Belgium-Austria, I will do so once again: Thibaut's behavior is not normal and his status as the best goalkeeper in the world does not matter in my eyes.

"He was not up to the task, and he must have the humility to recognise it.

"No coach in the world, regardless of the level at which his team plays, can let something like this slide.

"We undoubtedly had to brief Castagne at length before his appearance at a press conference on Tuesday noon, but I remain firm: he has no excuses to offer to Courtois for having spoken the truth. Rather the opposite should happen."

Fulham visit moved for Monday Night Football
Wolves' Premier League fixture against Fulham in November has been moved to the Monday evening after being selected for live broadcast.

The trip to Craven Cottage – which will see Wolves face former forwards Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore for the first time since leaving Molineux this summer – has been moved forwards to an 8pm kick off on 27th November as part of Sky Sports' Monday Night Football offering.

It will be the second consecutive Wolves fixture which will be broadcast live on TV in the UK, after the Remembrance fixture versus Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 11th November was selected by TNT Sports. That match will kick off at 12.30pm ahead of an international break.

Wolves' other fixture that month, which will see Gary O'Neil's team take on Sheffield United on Saturday 4th November at Bramall Lane, will remain as originally scheduled.

Tottenham dealt Son Heung-Min injury boost after Ange Postecoglou hope and surprise statement
Tottenham news as Ange Postecoglou left with former Spurs player to thank for Son Heung-Min favour ahead of Premier League return

Ange Postecoglou will be thankful to former Tottenham striker Jurgen Klinsmann as club captain Son Heung-Min was left on the bench for the entirety of South Korea's first game of the international break. Son, who hasn't been in peak condition in recent weeks, was an unused substitute in his country's 4-0 win over Tunisia on Friday.

Having started all eight matches of the season for Spurs, helping them to an unbeaten opening two months that sees Postecoglou sat at the top of the table currently, Son's little break will be much appreciated by both player and manager. At 31, and with more pressure than ever resting on his shoulders in attack, even this one game on the sidelines will be a great relief.

Son has already played over 700 minutes in all competitions for club and country this year and has the added burden of being the club's captaincy and leading senior player in the absence of Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane. He is also coming off the back of four consecutive seasons with over 2,500 domestic minutes played, three of those with over 2,900 accrued.

It is a staggering number and has been brought into perspective recently due to conversations over the long-term damage done to Eden Hazard and Bukayo Saka early in their careers. Son, though, has kept going and is already lining up a much improved season in terms of output.

He has scored six times in the league and is just four off matching last year's total, the lowest in his career since 2015. Even in the past fortnight, a time that has seen him play through discomfort, Son has come up big for Tottenham, scoring against both Arsenal and Liverpool.

Now, with a couple of extra days off before Spurs play next, being handed the Monday night slot on October 23 at home to Fulham, Son will be near fully rested even if he does play against Vietnam on Tuesday for his country. Given he wasn't called upon by Klinsmann against Tunisia it is likely that he will be in the team this team round after the American manager said, "It's natural for European players to feel fatigued," when asked about the subject last week.

"It will be difficult to adjust to the time difference. Son Heung-min will be less tired. There's no European competition." He did explain that the condition of certain players would be taken into account but nevertheless, Postecoglou will be thankful for this brief rest.

"Look, he wasn't 100% but I had a chat with him yesterday and he was desperate to play," Postecoglou said of his trusted winger after the win over Liverpool. "He was going to give what he could and he did.

"He was never going to play the whole 90, we were always going to give him an hour or so but he led from the front again and he was the one doing the pressing. He got his goal as well so great captain's effort."

Fulham Fans Call for Ticket Price Protest
Fulham FC tickets have significantly increased this season, and now, fed-up fans are calling for a protest.

The Fulham Supporters Trust (FST) and Fulham Lillies, as well as several other fan groups, are calling-out the club for its match-day prices, which are among the highest in the U.K. FST and Fulham Lillies said that these prices have the potential to price out a generation of local fans, citing a "completely misguided ticket pricing policy."

"It's a policy which, piece by piece, is alienating a large part of our core fan base to the extent that increasing numbers just can't afford to come to a game or bring their friends and family to help create that next generation," the pair said in a joint statement.

Their frustration stems from an upcoming match between Fulham and Manchester United FC next month. During their game on November 4, tickets are going for £160 in the Riverside Stand — a 60% increase from last season — with the cheapest seats priced at £67 in the Hammersmith End. Those looking for season tickets face an even harsher reality; corporate season tickets have risen to the highest in the country at £3,000.

Fans took to social media to express their frustration:

While supporter groups have been fighting back against the club's wishes to increase prices in recent years, they've fallen short. Now, the FST and Fulham Lillies are calling all supporters to join them in a protest ahead of the match against Manchester United on November 4. The protest will begin at 11am at the Tea House in Bishops Park, and from there, the group will march down to Craven Cottage.

During the game, FST and Fulham Lillies will distribute yellow cards to be held up inside the ground at the 18th minute of the match. This represents the typical 18% price increase, which the groups hope sends "a clear message that we need an #AffordableFulham so that next generations aren't lost and will be able to create their own tidal waves on the Thames."

"We call on all Fulham fans to join us in delivering a clear, peaceful but loud message that these prices must be brought down and that ticketing policy must focus on ensuring real Fulham fans can afford both to attend and to encourage the next generation to attend," FST and Fulham Lillies said.

"You may be able to afford your season ticket this year, but what about next? What about when you want to bring family members? How is the next generation going to be able to afford to fall in love with Fulham?"

Watch Scotland U21 goals as Kieron Bowie and Ben Doak inspire Hungary win
Scotland U21s got the first points of their qualifying campaign

Scotland U21s cruised past Hungary at Fir Park to get their first points of Euro 2025 qualifying with a 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Kieron Bowie and Ben Doak.

Bowie grabbed a double inside the first seven minutes of the game and then Doak netted from the penalty spot after he was fouled in the build-up. Hungary did get one back before half time but it was a comfortable second half to see out the game and it sparks life into the young guns European qualifiers after they lost the opening game 1-0 against Spain last month.

They face Malta on Tuesday, also at Fir Park, as they try to make it six points from nine to start the group but it was an explosive start at the home of Motherwell to send them on their way tonight.

Bowie opened the scoring after a terrific run from the middle of the park when he picked the ball up at the half way line. The Fulham youngster made his way through the Hungary defence before getting a shot away on his left foot to put his side in front.

The former Raith Rovers man got the second of the game too. Now on loan at Northampton, Bowie got on the end of a terrific cross from Max Johnston to double the home side's advantage.

And the third came when Doak raced into the box after a quick free kick and was taken down. The former Celtic youngster stepped up to hit the penalty himself and fired it into the back of the net.

Kieron Bowie double inspires Scotland Under-21s to victory over Hungary with Ben Doak also on target
Scotland Under-21s' hopes of reaching Euro 2025 received a major boost after Kieron Bowie's first-half double inspired a 3-1 victory over Hungary at Fir Park.

Attacking midfielder Bowie – who is on loan at Northampton Town from Fulham – netted a double inside the opening seven minutes as Scotland raced into an early 2-0 lead. Ben Doak added a third after 32 minutes from the penalty spot before Barnabas Kovacs replied before half-time.

After a narrow defeat to Spain in September, the win was much needed for Scot Gemmill's side.

Scotland hit the front after just two minutes, with Bowie, the former Raith Rovers youngster, gliding in from the left and holding off two challenges before sliding a composed shot into the bottom corner.

The 21-year-old's second, just five minutes later, saw him finish off Max Johnston's terrific first-time cross with a deft header into the top left-hand corner.

Liverpool's Doak added a third following Dominik Kocsis' reckless challenge in the box – and there could have been more in a dominant opening 40 minutes.

However, the visitors were handed a lifeline against the run of play just before half-time when Kocsis' corner was prodded home from close range at the second attempt by Kovacs.

Johnston was shown a second yellow card late on for a mistimed tackle on Balint Katona as Scotland finished with 10 men.

Gemmil's side are back in action on Tuesday when they host Malta at Fir Park in another Euro 2025 qualifier. Kick-off is 5.30pm.

Bowie and Doak on target as Scotland U21s beat Hungary

Kieron Bowie scored twice as Scotland enjoyed a 3-1 victory over Hungary in an under-21 Euro 2025 qualifier at Fir Park.

The Fulham forward, on loan at Northampton, drove in an angled finish for a fine solo effort then headed home from a Max Johnston cross.

Liverpool winger Ben Doak drilled in a penalty on 32 minutes, with Barnabas Kovacs replying before half-time.

A good evening for the Scots was marred by a late red card for Johnston.

The Sturm Graz full-back, returning to the home of former club Motherwell, picked up a second booking for a mistimed tackle in stoppage time.

Bowie's opener came after just two minutes as he powered forward from his own half and cut in from the left, holding off two challenges, before sliding the ball into the bottom corner.

Soon after, he rose well to steer in a terrific first-time cross from the galloping Johnston.

Doak had teed up Johnston on that occasion and those two linked again for the penalty as the 17-year-old was upended by a clumsy challenge.

A dominant display was interrupted when a corner was prodded home from close range at the second attempt by Kovacs.

The second half was played at a much reduced pace, with a thunderbolt from centre-half Ibane Bowat the closest the hosts came to adding to their lead.

Scotland, who lost their first match of this campaign away to Spain, face Malta at the same venue on Tuesday.

FigRolls gaining a full cap for Canada would suggest we may see him on our bench against Spurs and a step closer to  four 1st team.

To be fair, I doubt his playing for Canada will have any bearing on it.  Injuries may well though.
