I see Newcastle are trying to play him tomorrow at Wolves before his ban technically kicks in. Shoddy standards.

Why shouldn't they, he has not been banned yet.

What's with the spam these days? P*** off.

Real crazy this post?

It's resurrected a post from over 2 months ago? How did it do that, did it just filter though the oages to find key words on newcastle,

If you look at the old posts, there's only one other post also advertising some mortgage thing so definitely not an honest post.

Why though is my question? 😂 and this tonali/toney deal was ages ago! 😆

Apologies everyone.  They are getting through every now by using legitimate email addresses.  Thanks to all who report them.
Anyone can blend into the crowd.  How will you standout when it counts?

You might want to remove the quoted link of the casino. These spammers are likely posting these links to get backlinks to make this casino look more legitimate on Google.

So, Toney is back today to save the Bees from a relegation struggle. After such a long absence, it'll be interesting to see his match fitness level. I should imagine there's a high risk of injury after this unusually long break.

Somerset Fulham

I do wonder if Brentford will let him go this window. The way things stand, they could well go down without him.

Presume he's kept up training - might come back with renewed zest and vigour, have to wait and see.
Obviously I hope he isn't the player he was, and Brentford do even worse with him playing!

I find it a bit sad that you wish ill of a player. He's served his time for an addiction problem and personally I hope he goes on to enjoy a decent career (as I would with almost every player).

I have a hard time seeing Brentford selling him before summer. Too many issues that prevent them from doing so.

1) Toney's unknown form is going to drive down the fee.
2) Mbeumo is out until March so they need him up front even more.
3) Brentford are actually in the relegation frame if they're not careful.
4) Most clubs who can buy are not able due to the financial implications this window.

Plus if you are Toney you may want to wait and see who is in the Champions League for next season before moving.

Totally agree with you Twig ( and he has served his time) - however I am finding the media adulation of him a little distasteful.

Logicalman

Quote from: Sammyffc on October 17, 2023, 05:03:06 PMim sure many of you have seen the news about Tonali being caught gambling in Italy and many people are calling for his head and wanting the same punishment for him as Toney got, even though the facts of the cases are completely different... but thats the modern world.

What should football associations be doing to help players with gambling addictions? is there anything that can actually be done?

I think betting on your own team is a lot more than just addiction. It should have been a lifetime ban.
It needs to be up to the clubs to sort their players out, they are the ones in daily contact, they are the players' direct employers and in the best position to assist, and so when the FA gets involved then the club needs penalties as well.

Addictions need to be treated professionally, unfortunately it has been generally ignored in the past, at all levels.
Logical is just in the name - don't expect it has anything to do with my thought process, because I AM the man who sold the world.

I was being tongue in cheek here, making a joke, hence the exclamation mark - I'm pleased he's sorted out his problems, and don't wish him ill will, though as a Fulham fan I don't want Brentford to do well.

Just shows how carefully you have to choose your words on here.

General

Having seen how Toney was yesterday, even technically cheating to move the ball before he scored its clear he didn't really learn anything and the time he spent out wasn't long enough. There's no point in having punishments if they don't have any effect. He may be a good footballer, but as a person he's pretty horrendous. No matter his justifications.

Agreed General & yet another abject failure on the part of VAR not to notice his gamble on getting away with it.

Since that is not within the scope of VAR, I disagree that it is an "abject failure on the part of VAR". Do we want VAR to check every occasion of a game?

This was a failure of the referees. Whether that is something that would be punishable retroactively I don't know. I assume not, since surely it would have only been a yellow card if the referee had noticed it?

Yes, moving the ball for free kick, or throwing in from the wrong position, is something that players tend to do, to get a bit of advantage, though obviously against the rules of the game, and it's up to officials to spot this and take action.
Also, why didn't the opposition players protest to the ref? and why did they leave such a huge gap in their wall?

Toney was in the wrong, but players  have always tried this sort of thing, and refs  are supposed to  check that a free-kick if taken in the correct position, especially in this case, where the kick was lined up right  in front of gap in the opposition wall.
