Silva: I was 'unhappy' with pre-season uncertainty
Marco Silva has revealed he 'made it clear' to Fulham's board he was unhappy with the summer transfer uncertainty that disrupted Fulham's preparations for the new Premier League campaign.

The Aleksandar Mitrovic saga bedevilled the Whites' participation in the Summer Series in America, where Silva held crunch talks with chairman Shahid Khan, before the Serbian was sold to Saudi side Al Hilal two weeks into the new season and influential midfielder Joao Palhinha was within minutes from being sold to Bayern Munich at the end of the transfer window. Silva largely kept his counsel after these setbacks and signed a contract extension at Craven Cottage in October, but told Portuguese newspaper A Bola:

It doesn't serve as an excuse, but it wasn't a normal pre-season. I made it clear to the [Fulham] officials that I wasn't happy at the time because what happened in pre-season wasn't normal. It was a consequence of the previous season, of the great success that this club had. Possibly, in the history of the club, there had never been a summer with so many proposals, with so much harassment of our players.

There will be interest, of course, in some [of our] players [in January]. If you ask me if I want to have the same feeling in the January window? Of course not

Fulham receive 'green light' from player and agent for signing – Claim club handling offer from Silva's side
Two months ago, Fanaticos stated Fulham are one of the clubs willing to spend to secure the signing of Club América's Sebastián Cáceres in the winter market.

The centre-back has a deal expiring in December 2024 and his future seems to be away from the Mexican club.

Fulham could be an option for him, according to Mexican journalist Fernando Esquivel. He took to Instagram to provide the latest update on this case.

According to Esquivel, Marco Silva's side and Napoli are the 'main interested parties' to sign the 24-year-old, likely in January.

He claims Club América have received two offers from Europe and believes those could have been tabled by Fulham and the Serie A winners. There's no mention of the details of these proposals.

There were 'advances' for this operation after 'planned contacts' but the journalist doesn't make it clear whether the interested parties [Fulham and Napoli] made contact with Club América, the player's camp or both.

Esquivel says 'there is a green light' from both the Uruguay international and his agent to move to Europe and Club América's response is now awaited.

Cáceres has made 18 appearances this season for the Mexican club.

Fulham loan man to be 'assessed' by League One side ahead of Oxford United clash this weekend
Northampton Town loanee Kieron Bowie will have to be 'assessed' ahead of the weekend, as detailed in a report by the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.

Northampton Town re-signed the striker on loan from Fulham in the summer following their promotion from League Two last season.

Bowie, 21, played with a dead leg against Carlisle United last time out. His side ended up drawing 2-2 at Brunton Park and he scored a late equaliser.

In this latest update regarding his situation by the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, the Cobblers will need to make checks on him ahead of their match on Saturday at home to Oxford United.

In other team news, Louis Appéré will also have to be looked at, whilst Lee Burge and Danny Hylton aren't far from returning. Ben Fox, Ali Koiki and Tyler Magloire remain out until next year.

Northampton Town injury latest
Northampton will hope that Bowie is fine to play the U's as they look to build on their draw at Carlisle.

The attacker was given the green light to leave Fulham again in the last transfer window to help further boost his development.

He scored give goals for the Cobblers last term and has already got three to his name in this campaign as he looks to beat his previous tally.

The Scotland youth international moved to Craven Cottage in 2020 after catching the eye in Scottish League One with Raith Rovers.

Bowie is yet to make a senior appearance for the Whites but they will be keeping close tabs on his progress at Sixfields ahead of his eventual return to London.

Northampton are 12th in the table after the first 21 games and are 10 points off the play-offs.

Fulham hit by suspension blow ahead of Burnley game as in-form striker sent off for 'kung-fu style' tackle
Fulham will be without their in-form striker Raul Jimenez for their Premier League encounter against Burnley next Saturday.

The 32-year-old had scored three goals in his last two games heading into Saturday's game against Newcastle United.

But the former Wolves man was shown a straight red card for what has been described as a 'kung-fu style' tackle on Newcastle's Sean Longstaff.

Fulham, who had previously enjoyed back-to-back 5-0 wins, were drawing 0-0 at the time of Jimenez's dismissal, but were eventually beaten 3-0 by Eddie Howe's men.

Fulham boss Marco Silva hit out at referee Samuel Barrott after the game, suggesting Newcastle's Jamaal Lascelles should have been punished for an elbow on Jimenez before the striker was sent off.

"It was probably the quiet game Newcastle needed after the midweek Champions League game. It wasn't our fault, the quiet game in the end," Silva said.

"Before the red card it was a clear elbow from Lascelles. He knew Raul was there. The elbow out. Until the 21st minute [in] all the moments, the referee didn't give us one foul. For Newcastle, it was a free-kick every time.

"These types of games, the referee has to have the ability to handle the pressure because always with the home crowd.

"The Premier League should decide [upon] a referee with the experience and ability to handle pressure.

"This is the best example of a referee who doesn't have the experience to handle the pressure. Any doubt, any foul, he didn't give one. Even the elbow in the face of Raul."

Jimenez will now be missing for three games through suspension, while Tim Ream (calf) and Adama Traore (hamstring) are both likely to miss out through injury.

Traore, the former Wolves winger, has only made two appearances for Fulham since making the move from Molineux during the summer.

Calvin Bassey, however, should be back available after missing the Newcastle game with illness.

Silva's side are in Carabao Cup quarter-final action tonight against Everton, while Burnley have a full week to prepare for their trip to Craven Cottage.

Fulham currently sit 11th in the table, sandwiched in between West London rivals Chelsea and Brentford.

Everton defender Vitalii Mykolenko injury news shared by Doctor for Fulham clash
We're delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he'll be giving his views on the injury situation at Everton...

Everton defender Vitalii Mykolenko will undergo a late fitness test ahead of facing Fulham in the Carabao Cup, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The Toffees play host to the Cottagers at Goodison Park on Tuesday, 19 December and the Ukraine international is a doubt, having missed the Premier League clash against Burnley at the weekend.

However, the injury expert claims he will have been monitored daily and his groin injury is not understood to be a serious one.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Goodison News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

"This sounds like he is being monitored day to day and his availability will depend on how he progresses.

"Can't say if he will be ok or not for mid week.

"He will require a fitness test of sorts but yes, it's not a serious one so it's good news for Everton."

This will undoubtedly have come as a boost for the Toffees as Mykolenko is among the first names on the team sheet for Sean Dyche.

The Blues have a rare chance of making it to Wembley as they're just two more wins from achieving that feat and go into the Fulham clash as favourites.

They are in a good run of form and their chances of winning significantly increase with a full-strength squad so Dyche will be hoping Mykolenko is back.

Medieval Fulham Palace and gardens attracting 320K visitors a year undergoing new renovation
Fulham Palace has already undergone three phases restoring parts of its house and garden, with more works in the pipeline

Fulham Palace had its three current greenhouses reinstated via the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NHLF) in 2010/11 (Image: Matthew Bruce)

An historic West London attraction welcoming around 320,000 visitors a year is hoping to take the next steps in the ongoing restoration of its iconic house and garden - including building a new greenhouse on the footprint of a building demolished in the early 1900s. Fulham Palace, a medieval site used as a residence by the Bishops of London from 704 until 1973, is also looking to refurbish one of its existing greenhouses, as it looks to improve its offerings to the public.

Located a few minute's walk from Fulham FC's home stadium, Craven Cottage, the Fulham Palace grounds are home to a series of protected structures, most of which are Grade-II listed. These include, as well as the palace itself, the chapel, a Gothic lodge, the stables, and the walls surrounding the garden.

Documents published detailing the application note that a range of greenhouses and 'associated backhouses' were constructed in the north-west corner of the garden in 1821. Three were reinstated via the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NHLF) in 2010/11, as part of the second of three restoration phases carried out at the palace. The documents however also state there are 'indications' two further greenhouses were likely constructed in the 19th century, both of which appear to have been demolished by 1916.

The proposed new greenhouse is planned to go in the space to the right of the current structures (Image: Matthew Bruce)

The proposed refurbishment works include adding external blinds to one of the greenhouses, which will keep it cooler during the summer, and providing level access through a new door, "to promote a community use of this area for workshops and events accessible to all".

The revamped greenhouse, the documents continue, "will take on multiple roles as an all year round space for garden related workshops for schools and community groups in addition to creating income opportunities to support the Fulham Palace Trust for evening garden events. It will supplement the Palace's at-capacity education centre. It will run a range of new nature and gardening focused workshops for schools and groups - from looking after chickens (we have four onsite), to pond dipping and how to garden on your balcony."

In terms of the new greenhouse, the plan is that it will focus on the propagation of the palace's plants, including fruit and vegetables, which will be sold on the Trust's market barrow. Due to the various Grade-I and Grade-II listed buildings on-site, plus its wider designation as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, additional consideration of the potential impact on the palace is required.

The application however notes that there is no suggested demolition of any listed structure, with most of the works considered minimal. The Fulham Palace Trust, which has managed the site since 2011, was approached for comment, but had not responded at the time of publication.

Everton vs Fulham: Marco Silva returns to former club having finally found a home at Craven Cottage
Cottagers boss even snubbed lucrative Saudi interest during the summer

Marco Silva reached the landmark of 900 days as Fulham manager on Monday.

About two-and-a-half years may not seem an awfully long time, but Silva has tended not to stay in the same job for too long.

He became sporting director of Portuguese club Estoril just 12 days after retiring there as a player in 2011. Just 142 days later, he was their manager.

Silva resigned in May 2014 and was unveiled as Sporting manager nine days later. Sacked 379 days after that, he became head coach of Greek club Olympiacos.

He resigned after 351 days to join Hull, where he resigned after 140 days, following their relegation in 2017.

Just 48 hours later, he was appointed Watford manager, but was sacked after 239 days. He was then only at Everton for 554 days before being dismissed there.

Silva waited a year and a half for the right opportunity, and as he approaches three years as Fulham manager, it is clear he has finally found a place to call home.

Having guided Fulham to the Championship title in his first season and then to a 10th-place finish in the Premier League last term, Silva was hot property in the summer, but rejected a £40million offer to join Saudi side Al-Ahli.

"I want to be in the Premier League and I want to challenge myself," he said. "I want to play against the best teams in the world and against the best managers in the world. It is easy."

While Silva was left frustrated by the number of signings Fulham made in the summer, he was pleased with the personnel that did come in and has always retained a significant say in player recruitment.

Joao Palhinha, Timothy Castagne and Willian are all signings made on his recommendation, and all have fared well at Craven Cottage.

Buoyed by a burning intensity shared by many top managers, Silva has instilled a winning mentality.

He said last month: "When I arrived at the club, everyone reminded me of the 'yoyo club'. We stopped that situation.

"You can leave a legacy inside a club. That can come from titles, your positions in the table, your way of playing football. I would like to leave here with a legacy."

As Fulham gear up for tonight's Carabao Cup quarter-final at Silva's former club Everton, they find themselves on the cusp of a first domestic cup semi-final since 2002.

A run to Wembley would further add to the feeling that Silva has found a home where he can build a legacy.

Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist share Everton verdict live on talkSPORT ahead of Fulham clash
Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist have both offered their verdict ahead of the clash between Everton and Fulham in the Carabao Cup, suggesting the Toffees have a good chance of winning the tournament.

Sean Dyche's side welcome Fulham to Goodison Park on Tuesday 19 December for their quarter-final clash and the Toffees are in excellent form, having won every one of their last four Premier League matches.

While the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United all remain in the competition, Stelling has suggested that Everton have an excellent chance of lifting the trophy this season, given the early exits of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Speaking on talkSPORT (19 December, 7:27) he said: "What a chance for all of them with no Manchester City and no Arsenal and no Manchester United, mind you Newcastle have put most of them out so far."

McCoist was quick to agree, saying: "Mind you, you look at Everton and Fulham. Everton, they're on a great run, I think Everton and Sean Dyche will really fancy that tournament."

Fancy their chances
The best teams in competitions very rarely win cups, often instead the most effective or hard-to-beat sides are the teams that eventually lift silverware at the end of the competition and Everton will be hoping that they can be exactly that this season.

Few teams in the Premier League are in better current form than the Toffees who seem to find a way to win every game that they play in the last few weeks. It might not always be the prettiest performances, but Dyche's team are incredibly well-drilled and tend to find a way to win.

Premier League safety may not yet be assured, but it isn't too far away already as Everton have already made back the points from their 10-point deduction and now then can begin to look up the table. Focus won't be solely on the Carabao Cup, but the Toffees can afford to play a strong side against Fulham.

Once you're in the semi-finals of a tournament, you've got just as good a chance as anybody else of being the team to lift the trophy come the end of the season. As Stelling and McCoist said, some big teams have already fallen by the wayside this season so there is absolutely no reason why the Toffees shouldn't fancy their chances.

Fulham line up January move for Akor Adams

Fulham are reportedly keen on signing 24-year-old Nigerian striker Akor Adams from Ligue 1 clubs Montpellier.
According to a report from Football Insider Fulham are keen on Akor Adams, who has been in fine form for Ligue 1 club Montpellier this season.

The Nigerian striker has 24 goals and two assists in 33 matches across all competitions this season. Most of those goals came earlier this term during his time at Lillestrom. The player has managed to hit the ground running in Ligue 1 as well, scoring seven goals in 16 league matches.

There is no doubt that the 23-year-old is a quality forward who is likely to improve with coaching and experience. Fulham need to bring in a reliable replacement for Aleksandar Mitrovic, and Adams could be a solid addition. They have also shown interest in other strikers like Santiago Gimenez.

Raul Jimenez has not been able to live up to the expectations since his move to the West London club, who should invest in a younger striker with higher potential. The Montpellier striker certainly fits the profile, and it remains to be seen whether Fulham can get the deal done.

The striker has signed a contract with the Ligue 1 club until the summer of 2027, and he is unlikely to come cheap. It will be interesting to see if Fulham are prepared to break the bank for him.

The 23-year-old Nigerian will be attracted to the idea of playing in the Premier League, and a transfer to Fulham would certainly be a step up for him. It remains to be seen whether he can see the move to the Premier League during the second half of the season and guide Fulham to a top-half finish.

The West London club have an impressive squad at their disposal. But they need a couple of intelligent additions in January in order to finish the season strongly. Signing a reliable goalscorer should be a top priority for Fulham, who should look to bring in more quality and depth in the central defence as well.

Meanwhile, the striker has been linked with a move to West Ham United as well, and it remains to be seen whether Fulham can beat their London rivals to his signature.

'Agreement' - transfer update amid Arsenal, Fulham, Man Utd, and Liverpool interest
Latest Premier League transfer news and rumours involving Fulham, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal

Fulham are set to cause a major splash in the transfer market. Fluminense midfielder Andre has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool - but the Cottagers look set to fend off the lot of them in their pursuit of the 22-year-old.

According to talkSPORT, Andre is expected to join Fulham 'next year' and that there is also an agreement in place 'in principle' between the Cottagers and Fluminense regarding Andre. As things stand, it will cost Fulham £20 million to bring him on board.

Andre has made it clear he wants to play in the Premier League at some point in his career. He has given praise to Manchester City previously, calling them 'the best team in the world' but it seems Fulham is his next destination. He could play against City soon in the Club World Cup, following Fluminense's 2-0 victory over Egyptian outfit Al Ahly - Andre was awarded the man of the match award for his performance.

What will Andre bring to Fulham?
For such a young player, Andre has a very complete skillset. He isn't a goal scorer, nor is he particularly creative, but his work rate and defensive capabilities are outstanding. Additionally, he is an adaptable talent, being able to play in both central and defensive midfield. Should Joao Palhinha leave Craven Cottage any time soon, having been linked with giant clubs such as Bayern Munich and Manchester City, Andre would be an excellent choice to take his place in the team.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Andre said: "I watch the Premier League and it is a big dream to play there. I am focused on finishing the season with Fluminense and realising our dream of winning the Club World Cup. But my dream is clear, to be a Premier League player."

'My dream is clear' – Liverpool, Fulham linked Brazil international reveals his ideal next destination
Liverpool are reportedly facing a battle with Fulham and Barcelona for highly-rated Brazil international Andre Trindade, who has been linked with the Reds for some time.

Jurgen Klopp completely revamped his midfield in the summer, bringing in Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.

The manager is still keen to bring in one more midfielder in January, however, and he has drawn up a shortlist of potential signings.

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Liverpool's scouts have been keeping a close eye on Andre's performances for Brazilian giants Fluminense in recent months.

Andre has already made 169 appearances to date for Fluminense, scoring four goals and making three assists in the process.

His performances have also earned the talented defensive midfielder four caps for the Brazil national team, so there is certainly no doubting his quality.

Fulham are also keen on signing Andre, so a move to the Premier League could be on the cards for him this winter. It seems, however, that Barcelona could try to lure Andre to LaLiga instead.

'It's a big dream to play in the Premier League'
In a recent interview, Andre admitted that a move to the Premier League would be a dream come true, but playing for Barcelona is also tempting.

"For sure Barca and Real Madrid are two big clubs – but I think I would choose Barcelona," Andre said.

"I watch the Premier League and it's a big dream to play there one day," he added. "I'm focused on finishing the season with Fluminense and realising our own dream of winning the Club World Cup.

"But my dream is clear, to be a Premier League player."

Recent reports suggest that Andre is valued at approximately £30m by Fluminense, which is, admittedly, a big price tag for someone with no European football experience.

If he lives up to his sky-high potential, though, the Brazilian will be worth every penny. He could also be the missing link Liverpool need to help them clinch a Premier League title this season if he can continue his current form in England.

As for Fulham, they are at serious risk of losing star midfielder Joao Palhinha in January, with Arsenal and Man City pushing to sign the £60m-rated man.

Marco Silva could therefore look to bring in Andre to replace him, which will certainly be no easy task given Palhinha's form this season.

Silva 'has found a home at Fulham'
In tonight's Evening Standard, Dom Smith reflects on the fact that Marco Silva passed 900 days in charge of Fulham on Monday. Part of Silva's rationale for taking the Craven Cottage job was his burning desire to prove his English critics wrong following his sacking by Everton – and the Whites have reaped the reward of giving the Portuguese coach time to implement his easy-on-the-eye footballing philosophy.

An ambitious manager, Silva's nomadic career has hardly seen him put down routes but the prospect of building a legacy at Fulham encouraged him to sign a new contract, even after a chaotic summer. It isn't controversial to laud what he has already achieved by the River Thames, but he is determined to drive London's oldest football professional club forward – and that means making more history. Beating his former employers to reach Fulham's first ever League Cup semi-final tonight would be another impressive step forward.

Raul Jimenez – Assault or tackle?
There is a little debate going on here at The Mag following the Raul Jimenez incident and I found some of the accusations to be unreal.

Was it over the top and a definite red card for the striker?

I think that unless you are a hard as nails Fulham fan, it's as clear a red as you will see all season. He was flying through the air out of control feet high and not aimed at the ball, before he sensibly twisted around and clattered one of our very own, Sean Longstaff, in the face with his backside.

Now some of the things being thrown about on here in the comments section I am finding ridiculous.

Someone said it was an accident (though later I discovered that one appeared to be a wind-up), some saying an assault, with others comparing it to a rugby tackle.

The thing that is getting my back up though, are the assault allegations.

Players these days are playing in a league where they are heavily protected and wrapped up in cotton wool. It is supposed to be a contact sport and has turned into a bunch of highly trained grown sportsmen rolling around the ground at the slightest hint of contact. It is a scourge on the beautiful game.

Back to this Raul Jimenez incident though.

The word 'assault' is being thrown around a bit these last few days. With one person saying if you were walking down the street and someone did this to you, would you accept it as a greeting? Well no, you wouldn't, but walking down the street isn't a contact sport the last I heard. Are we going to stop people punching each other in the boxing ring? Or scrumming in rugby?

Let's not ruin what is supposed to be a contact sport.

Football has made some big changes over the last few years, some for the better and some for the worse. However, when people can start throwing assault around for a tackle in a contact sport, then it's the end of the road for the beautiful game as we know it.

I wish people would stop trying to change everything, especially football, it's not broken and never has been.

Everton predicted XI, team and injury news v Fulham as Jarrad Branthwaite starts
With Everton back in action again tonight, fans will be treated to watching their team for a second time in just four days as they welcome Fulham to Goodison Park.

However, this is no ordinary Premier League clash, as there is arguably so much more at stake.

A win tonight would propel whichever team into the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, a competition that the Toffees have never won before.

Not only that, but given Manchester City's early exit, the race for the trophy has been blown wide open. There are still other favourites to claim it, but given their form, Sean Dyche will be quietly confident of going deep.

However, he must first navigate the various injuries and ailments throughout his squad, before he can start dreaming of Wembley.

Here's the XI we're predicting for Everton's game vs Fulham...
Taking the competition supremely seriously should be a prerequisite for Everton, who have not tasted silverware since 1995.

Therefore, Jordan Pickford will provide the foundation for a strong starting XI full of first-team stars.

Given Vitaliy Mykolenko's likely absence, alongside Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young, Dyche could opt for a return to his tried and tested back four by unleashing Ben Godfrey in a makeshift left-back role.

The £20m titan, who was branded a 'monster' by journalist James Whaling just two years ago for his defensive work in a royal blue shirt, enjoyed plenty of his early career at Everton in that role.

He will be supported by James Tarkowski and Nathan Patterson, with Jarrad Branthwaite also certain to return following his suspension.

In front of them will be the ever-present partnership of Amadou Onana and James Garner, with the duo slowly turning into one of the most formidable pairings in the Premier League.

Their blend of creativity and defensive steel helps screen a back four that has kept the second-most clean sheets in the division this season, behind only Newcastle United and Arsenal.

Given Abdoulaye Doucoure is also injured, an opportunity arises for Arnaut Danjuma to stake his starting claim after enduring the last few months on the sidelines.

He will support a front three largely unchanged, with Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison seeking to provide ample opportunities for their striker.

Given a clash with Tottenham Hotspur is just around the corner, perhaps tonight marks the ideal opportunity to rest Dominic Calvert-Lewin and instead opt for Beto.

After all, the Portuguese marksman is owed a start after his impressive past few cameos.

'Interest is very genuine': Journalist suggests Arsenal will only be able to sign £75m midfielder on loan in January
Joao Palhinha is a player that is making a lot of headlines heading into the January transfer window.

The Portuguese midfielder has proven over the past 18 months that he should be playing for a top club, and after a move to Bayern Munich fell through in the summer, the race is on to sign him in January.

It's said that Arsenal are interested in the Fulham star, but speaking on The Debrief, Ben Jacobs has shared some doubts around whether or not Arsenal will be able to get this deal done.

After spending over £200m in the summer, Arsenal are cutting it fine in terms of FFP, and according to Jacobs, Arsenal may only be able to do this deal if they can negotiate a loan with an option to buy.

Palhinha might only join Arsenal on loan
Jacobs shared what he knows about the Fulham ace.

"Fulham are looking for what I would term crazy money for Joao Palhinha. Closer to £70-75m. What we can say is that the Arsenal interest is very genuine. If Arsenal had dream business it would be Douglas Luiz, but that aside if they could get Joao Palhinha there is certainly admiration and they have done due-diligence on it. It's just whether January is possible because the price is so high. I don't think it's geared to Arsenal unless they can do what they did with David Raya and get him on loan with an option or obligation to buy, but Fulham may not play ball," Jacobs said.

No chance
There's absolutely no way Fulham will sanction such a deal, surely.

Palhinha has only just signed a new contract with Fulham, and if the Whites are to sell their most important player in January, they will want money in return to replace him and improve their squad elsewhere.

Letting Palhinha go on loan would make no sense from a Fulham perspective, especially as they'll be able to find a buyer elsewhere if necessary.

Unless Arsenal can find the cash, they won't be getting Palhinha in January.

Report: Liverpool Opts Out of High-Profile Deal

Liverpool's Strategic Transfer Decisions: Palhinha Not a Target
Transfer Market Dynamics
Liverpool, known for their strategic approach in the transfer market, have made a clear decision regarding João Palhinha, the highly-rated defensive midfielder. Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg recently tweeted, "Understand that Liverpool is definitely not in the race for João #Palhinha. He's not a transfer target in winter / #LFC", dispelling the rumours about Liverpool's involvement in the race for the Portuguese star.

Palhinha's Rising Stock
At 28, Palhinha has become a coveted name in the Premier League. His skill set as a defensive midfielder has attracted attention from top clubs, making him one of the most sought-after players in his position. The summer transfer window almost saw him joining Bayern Munich, but the deal fell through. This incident has not dampened interest in him, with top clubs like Chelsea, Man City, and Man Utd, alongside Arsenal, showing keen interest.

Why Liverpool Stepped Back
Liverpool's decision not to pursue Palhinha might come as a surprise to many. Their choice to step back could be a strategic one, focusing on different areas of their squad that require strengthening. This decision highlights Liverpool's disciplined approach to transfers, ensuring they only make moves that align perfectly with their tactical and financial strategies.

The Bigger Picture
Plettenberg's insights suggest that the coming days will be crucial for Palhinha. "Crucial days for him now as many other top clubs want him in January. Talks ongoing," he stated. With a reported price tag of €60 million, it's no surprise that Bayern's interest has cooled, but this does not detract from Palhinha's value and the potential impact he could have at another top club.

Star suggests Fulham move is a 'dream' as Cottagers agree deal worth £20m-plus
Fluminense star Andre Trindade could be about to achieve his Premier League 'dream' with Fulham reportedly agreeing a deal in principle for the Brazil international.

According to talkSPORT, one of this year's more long-running transfer sagas is about to come to an end, the finish line in sight and Marco Silva's foot glued down onto the accelerator.

Fulham, the report says, have 'agreed a deal in principle' with Andre Trindade expected to join The Cottagers for a fee in excess of £20 million during the January transfer window. And while Andre did not confirm of deny those claims on Monday, he did admit that England is his 'dream' destination.

Fulham to sign Brazil international Andre Trindade
"I watch the Premier League and it's a big dream to play there one day," Andre tells Premier League Brasil after Fluminense beat Al-Ahly of Egypt 2-0 in the Club World Cup.

"I'm focused on finishing the season at Fluminense and realising my dream of winning the Club World Cup. But my dream is clear, to be a Premier League player."

Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt admitted a few months ago that Liverpool were interested, only for Andre – a la Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia – to turn down a move to Anfield. He wanted to stick around at the time and help Fluminense complete their pursuit of the Copa Libertadores.

Now, with a Libertadores winners' medal in his pocket, Andre appears to have completed that particular chapter of his career, with a new adventure now awaiting on the other side of the Atlantic.

Liverpool were interested
"We are going to work hard on exits. There won't be many. I believe the departures will happen quickly," Paulo Angioni, Fluminense's sporting director, tells the Charla Podcast, captain and defender Nino also expected to seal a move to Nottingham Forest.

"Nino and Andra are players who are about to leave."

Andre, who has also been linked with Manchester United, Arsenal and West Ham, could potentially replace Joao Palhinha. The Portuguese powerhouse could yet complete a belated switch to Bayern Munich.

Fulham are reportedly keen on Feyenoord's Quinten Timber and Serie A enforcer Adrien Tameze too.

Everton vs Fulham: Opposition Analysis | All the Magic of the (Carabao) Cup at Goodison Park
The Blues are just one step away from a Semi-Final appearance

Everton take a short break from what's developed into a quite uplifting Premier League campaign (on the pitch, at least) with a return to Carabao Cup action tonight. Injuries and suspensions were an issue heading into last weekend's trip to Turf Moor, but the team passed the test with a comfortable 2-0 win over a poor Burnley side.

Everton must travel to the capital to face Tottenham Hotspur for a three o'clock kickoff on Saturday, so Sean Dyche will have some thinking to do about team selections, with a few players in doubt. However, a Quarter-Final at Goodison Park against Fulham under the lights tonight will be an appealing prospect for the boss.

Form
The Cottagers looked to build on an unexpected tenth-place finish last term following their return to the top flight. But a summer transfer window, at the end of which the team saw talismanic striker Aleksandar Mitrovic leave in pursuit of plunder in Saudi Arabia and influential midfielder João Palhinha's deadline day move to Bayern Munich only collapse at the last minute, was not conducive to streamlined planning for the new campaign.

In the end, the club spent a net €16m, recouping a huge fee for Mitrovic, but bringing in a few shrewd acquisitions like Everton's Alex Iwobi, defender Timothy Castagne from Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jiménez and Ajax centre back Calvin Bassey. Fulham started the season by beating the Blues 1-0 at Goodison, which was one of those early season matches in which Everton could not seem to be able to buy a goal despite dominating the game.

They went winless in their next three league games, before managing a close win over Luton Town. By the end of matchday 12 the London outfit's only other league win had been over another promoted side, in Sheffield United, measured against six losses. They appeared to be one of the division's weaker teams, but have picked up recently, winning three from five, scoring eleven goals in the process, including consecutive five-nil home wins.

They arrive at Goodison coming off a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United, a game greatly affected by Raul Jiménez's bizarre martial arts tackle leading to a straight red card received in the 22nd minute. Fulham have dispatched Spurs (on penalties), Norwich City and Ipswich Town en route to this Quarter-Final appearance.

Style of Play
Silva started the season off using a 4-3-3 formation, before switching to his more typical 4-2-3-1 in October. The Portuguese favours a passing, progressive approach, seeking to play on the front foot and to control possession; essentially what Blues fans would recognize from his time on Merseyside, though he's added a little more pragmatism since those days.

He likes to use a lot of movement and switching of players in attacking areas, in order to create space and confuse defenders, particularly in his use of inverted wingers. Despite losing Mitrovic, the Cottagers are scoring a decent amount (26), though are overachieving from an xG (Expected Goals) tally of 21.6. They enjoy a 49.4% share of possession in the league, placing them eleventh.

Defensively, Fulham like to sit in a compact shape and to contest the ball in the middle third, sometimes using this as a means to spring counterattacks. They rely heavily on the exceptional Palhinha to serve as a midfield anchor point. They have been a little susceptible this season, conceding 29 times from an xGA (Expected Goals Allowed) of 30.5.

Player Assessment
Iwobi, once signed for Everton under Silva's watch has hit form in recent weeks, having scored three goals and assisted another. Deployed on either wing, he's averaging 3.89 SCA (Shot-Creating Actions) per 90, all from open play.

Another ex-Blue, Antonee Robinson is offering a threat going forwards, completing 0.71 crosses into the opposition area per 90. He can be positionally suspect, but is an active defender, making a combined 5.71 tackles and interceptions per game, in addition to 6.67 recoveries.

Palhinha is leading the team in recoveries (7.24), as well as combined tackles and interceptions (7.80). He's also way out in front in terms of blocks made (2.20), illustrating why Bayern were after him as a solution to the lack of a true high-calibre defensive midfielder in their side.

Solution
A difficult match to assess properly, as quite where the EFL Cup ranks in terms of either team's priorities is unknown. Fulham are in a solid enough position in the league to have a go at a cup run, whereas Everton's situation is a little more complicated. Still, I'm assuming Dyche will want to field the strongest possible lineup, whilst not wanting to take undue risks with players returning to fitness.

Vitalii Mykolenko was not walking comfortably as he and the rest of his teammates attended former Chairman and Everton owner Bill Kenwright's Memorial Service yesterday, so I am predicting that he will not play tonight. His absence - along with Ashley Young - leaves the Blues without a genuine left back, so I believe Dyche will retain the 5-4-1 that was on display at Turf Moor on Saturday, or a variation thereof.

With Abdoulaye Doucoure likely to be unavailable, I can see Idrissa Gueye replacing him in central midfield and the returning Jarrad Branthwaite slotting into the back three for either Michael Keane or Ben Godfrey. Beto could be granted a start up top and would be eager to impress Dyche, if given the chance. Otherwise I expect no changes.

Fulham are not as poor a side as they looked in the early part of the season, though they've been overachieving recently, with a pair of 5-0 wins in which almost everything on target went in. They'll miss the suspended Jiménez, who was rediscovering his confidence in front of goal after a very long dry spell. The visitors will look to get on the ball and Everton will be happy to let them have it, as this suits the hosts preferred low-possession, direct transitional game perfectly.

With the momentum the team has been enjoying, confidence high and the atmosphere surrounding a night-time cup match, I expect the Toffees to win fairly comfortably and progress to an unknown destiny which awaits them in the Semi-Final.

Prediction: Everton 2-0 Fulham
