Fulham paying price for bad team selection

When I saw the team I was concerned there were too many "lightweights" selected to start. Harry Wilson has been off form for Wales, I would never have picked him above Traore or Willian. How does Lukic get in before Tom Cairney, even Martin Keown stated Cairney should start more. Iwobi has been a bit 'headless' of late, Tete is struggling get caught asleep and allowing them to get goal-side or cut in from the wide position instead of being forced down the wing.

He now has nearer the team he should have selected. Leno is letting virtually everything hit on target go in, he's had a stinker.

Second half cannot be any worse!

Agree the starting line up was not our best but it should have been good enough to match Forrest. Silva got the tactics and the team talk wrong as well as the team selection.

Forest also came for a battle as did Sheffield. Fulham seem half asleep to it all. Leno having a bad spell IMO Filham.

Cairney got dropped when he was in the form of his life,,,,
I'd understand if he had some bad games but he didn't,

I understand  the high press games with the bigger teams but surely against the likes of Forest he should start

Finnans Right Peg

Also think tosin needs to be dropped

I think complacency has cost us points in the last two games. We can all argue the toss about team selection but the teams that Silva put out were both good enough to pick up maximum points. Consistency has been an issue all season but now that we are safe from relegation I believe complacency is more the issue. Somehow Silva has to get these players playing at the levels we know they are capable of on a consistent basis if we are to achieve a high finish.

Q Which player in the whole PL has played the most minutes so far this season?
A Leno.

Make what you will of this stat.

I think complacency played a bigger part than team selection. That said - Wilson and Tete were poor from the start. Iwobi is a much better on the right than left and (but we obviously lack a left winger who is anywhere near as good as Willian)

Firstly we have to say that there were two teams on the pitch last night playing with different shaped formations and from the start Forest were offered acres of space with our backs too far up the pitch. Tete gave Hudson-Odoi nearly a yard start last night for the first goal. I cannot understand Nick's obsession with Leno as I don't think he stood a chance with any of the goals and stopped others.
Muniz was starved of chances by good defending and I cannot remember a decent cross along the ground.Again Forest were cutting everything out. I admire Traore for his speed but facing a packed defence his kick and run style is not as effective. Yes he did hit the post. Watching on tv it was noticeable how much ground Perriera cover but one goal this season is not good enough for a No.10.

Hindsight is a great thing but with players away on international duty and little time for preparing for two away games involving more time lost for travelling could we have not played two different sides. My guess would have been the easier game being sheffield and also the first game with less time to prepare so play the slightly weakened team first.we could still have the other players on the bench with 5 subs allowed and give other players needed game time.

I happen to agree with Nick, that Leno has been off for the last two games. I wouldnt say there was any complacency, especially after the Sheffield fiasco. It was more like the wrong selection, and I reiterate my view that we have a serious problem at the back - schoolboy defending again for their 3rd goal before half time. if Marco addresses that problem first - then the goals will come for us at the other end.

Positives? passing was far more accurate once the subs were made, and we hit the post a number of times - on another day they would have went in.

filham

With the quality and number of players in our squad it should be impossible to select a weak team.
I agree we could have selected two different team for those matches and thus addressed the travel/tiredness factor.

ElRay

Reading Forest fan reaction there is no team we could've selected to beat that super team.

Murillo & Danilo 2 Brazilian 50mil wonder kids. Wood best target man in the league. Gibbs-White England's best #10. Elanga & Hudson-Odoi best winger pairing in the league. Omobamidele Future captain.

Only a few weeks ago after the draw with Luton they were all poo and needed selling

Hahaha, I thought Gibbs-White was great last night to be fair. Hudson-Odoi looked good on the wing too and Wood had the game of his life (Don't particularly rate him)
Also by all accounts Murillo and Danilo have been great since coming to PL

The second goal was a horror show from Leno. My "obsession" with Leno is that I once referred to him as the BEST goalie in the PL, but even the best can have off days and I call it when I see it.

The fact Silva subbed THREE players after 25 minutes shows he chose the wrong team. He ended up embarassing those 3 he subbed.

Cairney makes Fulham gel, like it or not! Pereira also flatters to deceive shooting from ridiculous long range positions. Fulham perhaps thinking they don't have to graft to win matches as Forest did. They were battling every ball and it took the experienced subs to steady the ship. At the end, Forest were hanging on, a second goal would have had them in kittens.

cannot agree with you this time, Bassey should have stayed tight on wood but backed away allowing him to turn in doing so he also blocked leno's line of sight. Leno was already moving left to the centre of his goal and was left wrong footed. The third goal Palhinha and Cairney just gave up, Cairney had only been on the pitch for 13 minutes and couldn't be bothered to sprint back to make a challenge, that was the Cairney of old.

In the first half all our players lacked intensity and desire, not just those subbed off, so it's unlikely to be due to getting the selection wrong. We were out fought, out thought and outrun. We passed the ball better after the subs came on but we were still second best, looking very open defensively. Cairney was good going forward but lacked effort defensively, all too often he was strolling back, it was like the Tom of old.

He's getting a bit of stick on here but I thought Pereira was one of the few starting players to put in a decent shift, him and Robinson.

I do think there may be a tactical tweak required as we struggle against teams that sit deep and counter quickly down the wings. We need to work out how to cover the wing backs when they bomb forward.

It's interesting how quick people say "bad team selection" after the event, from what I have seen on here and other site's people were happy with the selection before the game, that old word "hindsight" plays a role in people's thoughts. Personally I was very happy with the team, just maybe I would have preferred to keep the same team, but I accept MS he knew his plan, but unfortunately it didn't work.

Sorry Alf but you will have to accept my word I saw that as a bad selection before the event but didn't post it on the forum.

All my posts are consistant, and I still contend that Leno lost his bearings and was basically beaten at the near post by a long range drilled shot probably only going 40mph.
