Nick will be in here to defend him despite Cairney being objectively awful in every appearance in recent times.

Ah, Mr Bird. Back again to give the term "objectively" a bad name. How about you standing up for your subjectivity for once instead?

Cairney should be starting in my opinion. I personally wouldn't have made 3 changes at the same time on 85-ish minutes. It was a fast paced game and it takes players a little bit of time to get into the game.

Lighthouse

There is indeed a theme this season. But it has nothing to do with Cairney. Making changes with minutes to go, leading almost immediately to conceding goals. If a player had made as many errors as the manager with his subs. We would be on his back and moaning all the time. But with Silva we just shrug our shoulders and ignore it.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Oh come on, didn't you see his data, Cairney has played in all except 4 league games all season and we won 2 of those in which he didn't play, of course that means he's "objectively" poor

A great example of trying to fit stats to a narrative and forgetting about the actual facts.

We were already behind against Sheffield Utd, Forest & Liverpool when Cairney came on. We were level with Newcastle when he went off. This was only game in that period where we went behind with Cairney on the pitch.

It is horses for courses. Does the game require a ferret or a locksmith? It was criminal that Cairney did not start against Sheff Utd whose biggest worry was that the crowd would go home at halftime. Instead Marco played the ferret.

Good points. He has come on numerous times this season and has calmed things down and brought control to a game when we've been ahead. We actually have a great record at not dropping points when we go ahead and he has been big part of that. Other times when we've been behind he has been brought on and has made a real difference to get back in the game. He was so good at both first few months he started starting games and for a while he/we were brilliant. He is a class player. I'm not one that says he should start every game as all our midfielders are decent with different attributes. All have also had good games and bad games. He's not the best or the worst player on earth as some seem to make out. On his day he is one of the best we have on the ball which in many games this season has made a massive difference controlling games or making things happen. He has also improved massively defensively this season although it is still a weakness and something that our other midfielders are better at. The triangle between TC, Willian and Robinson has been a joy to watch at points this season and nearly came off a couple of times today. Different posts if it had.

Nick Bateman

Probably the most ignorant post of the season from a Chelsea fan no doubt. When Cairney came on V Liverpool we were 3-1 down, so he steadied the ship and against Sheffield we came back from 2-0 down when he came on to make it 2-2. Cairney was also instrumental in our 5-0 victories when we thrashed West Ham and Nottingham Forest and Fulham's wins against Arsenal and Man.United away!

Some of those stats Cairney was only on for mere minutes, today he had 7 but it was the triple substitution that Silva does which disrupts the team. Also Palhinha is arguably our best player and he would have been in that position to prevent that wonder strike unlike Lukic who nobody knows where he plays.

One cannot expect someone to come on with 7 minutes and pick up the pace and change the result - look at how annoyed Mo Salah was yesterday in the same situation.

But if one has ever seen a troll on this board it's the op, a Chelsea goon who wants Fulham to drop points every week.

Removing Palhinha (protecting him against a yellow and suspension?) Pereria and Reed was asking for trouble!

It was a lot to expect even the generally excellent Cairney to come on and control the game, keep the ball and probe the opposition when the game was frantic and end to end.

Fresh legs or not, the balance of the team was weakened.

Very well put, absolute school boy error from Silva today making so many changes so late in the game, he should hold his hands up and just admit he got it wrong.
