Osmand wins PL2 Player of the Month!

Callum Osmand has been named PL2 Player of the Month for November.

It was a productive month for the 19-year-old who scored three goals and claimed an assist in just two games during November.

Osmand, who was also nominated for the award in September, grabbed a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win at West Ham United at the start of November, before scoring two second-half goals in a 2-1 comeback victory against Leeds United.

It hasn't been a bad start to December either for the striker, who bagged another brace in the National League Cup triumph over Woking, before claiming his first hat-trick of the season in our 5-3 win against Hertha BSC in the Premier League International Cup on Tuesday night.

After winning the award, Osmand said: "I made it one of my targets this season to win one of these trophies, so I'm really happy about it.

"Hopefully I can keep this form going, that's what I'm here to do, and hopefully that will lead to more recognition."

Congratulations on your award, Cal!

Mo Salah warned he is coming up against "top 10 left-back in the world"
Fulham took points off Arsenal last weekend, so Liverpool have been warned ahead of their visit of the Cottagers.

The Reds continued their near-perfect start to the season in the Champions League in midweek, winning 1-0 away to Girona.

Premier League commitments take centre stage again for Liverpool on Saturday, as they welcome Fulham to Anfield for another important game.

Marco Silva's side are 10th in the table after a solid start to the season, with last Sunday's 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal highlighting the threat they pose.

Ahead of Saturday's game, This Is Anfield spoke to Kyle Bonn (@the_bonnfire) to get the lowdown on Fulham's season, the key battles on Saturday and more.

How happy are you with Fulham's season so far?
Thrilled. Every time I feel like this flawed squad will be exposed, Marco Silva comes up with new ways to plug the gaps and paper over their biggest holes.

That is exactly what a great mid-table manager does.

Even in defeat, Fulham are competitive regardless of their opponent. It's been almost impossible to fault their performances or results to this point.

Are they perfect? Of course not.

But more often than not they're right in matches and give themselves a great chance to compete.

Can you finish in Europe?
Can they? Sure. Will they? It will be tough.

They're battling with some really good clubs for those places, and while they are giving it a good run, there have been some positive results that feel as though they may experience a regression in the second half.

Even if they continue this form, they currently sit 10th, and climbing three or four places feels like quite a challenge.

Still, the teams directly above them – Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford – aren't markedly better than Fulham and there's definitely a chance of climbing into European places.

It just feels like a less than 50 percent chance.

Who have been Fulham's best players? Who has struggled?
This is an interesting question about a team whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Still, easily the top two performers have been Bernd Leno and Antonee Robinson.

Those two players have been exceptional for yet another season, and they are both near the top of their position in the entire Premier League.

I made the claim that Robinson is a top 10 left-back in the world earlier this season and I stand by that.

Another top performer is Alex Iwobi, who has been a brilliant addition to the squad in his time with the club. He's one of the most underrated players in the Premier League and has been exactly what this team has been missing.

The only player to truly struggle is Issa Diop, who has never lived up to his £15 million price tag.

He makes rash challenges, has no recovery ability once beaten and struggles to man-mark.

Unfortunately, he's been forced into action with Joachim Andersen struggling for fitness and Calvin Bassey continuing to have disciplinary issues.

What are your thoughts on Arne Slot?
I mean, what is there to say?

I don't think anyone in their wildest dreams expected Slot to slide so smoothly into this squad.

His success should take nothing away from what Jurgen Klopp achieved with the club, but we've learned two things from Slot's early success.

First, he's just a damn good manager who has figured out exactly what strings to pull with each individual player to make them better. Second, this is just a better, well-rounded squad than maybe folks thought.

Liverpool were a unique situation because Klopp did not leave on the premise of unsolvable problems, so Slot was therefore not tasked with finding major solutions, and yet he's managed to unlock a new gear.

It's truly impressive.

How do you assess the title race?
Liverpool, and everyone else. Seriously. It's yours to lose. Don't screw it up!

Looking ahead to Saturday, where are the key battles?
The biggest battle, unquestionably, will be Mo Salah against Robinson.

Salah can, and usually does, beat any full-back in the world across 90 minutes, and he will absolutely have at least a big chance or two in this match.

For Robinson, it will be about limiting his influence and forcing him to find teammates rather than take good shots himself.

The other key battle will be Darwin Nunez against himself.

That guy, man. He just cannot figure it out in front of goal, and it's killing Liverpool.

What's your prediction?
I love how Fulham have competed against top sides this year, and for that reason I think they are capable of making a mess of this game.

Yet coming to Anfield and walking away with points, especially against this Liverpool side, has not just been out of reach for a club like Fulham, but for just about everyone.

I think the Reds will win 2-1 at the end of a close and entertaining match.

Fulham consider making offer for Corinthians player – Conditional on current player leaving
ulham are in the picture to sign Corinthians' Breno Bidon next year, according to Trivela.

The midfielder has been a regular for the Brazilian club, making 44 appearances since making his senior debut earlier this year.

His development and potential have caught Fulham's attention, and they are of the belief the 19-year-old can have a 'crucial role' at the club.

The Premier League side would make an approach for the Brazil U20 international if Andreas Pereira were to leave.

Pereira reportedly has many suitors, and an exit may be in the pipeline.

Marco Silva's side will try and hold on to the former Manchester United man at least until the end of this season.

If Pereira were to leave in the winter market, they could look to sign his replacement, and the focus is on Bidon. In that event, the possibility of Fulham making an official offer for the youngster in January increases.

The Brazilian's camp know English clubs have been keen on him ever since he made his first team debut.

Meanwhile, Corinthians have to raise funds and could sell some of their players, including Bidon, to improve their finances.

To sum it up, Fulham are interested in Bidon, and a possible approach depends on Pereira leaving the London club.

Arsenal loanee ruled out for 10 weeks with injury
Reiss Nelson's season has taken a hit, with Fulham manager Marco Silva confirming the Arsenal loanee will be sidelined until February following a hamstring injury sustained in their 3-1 victory over Brighton.

Silva told reporters when asked about injured players ahead of his side's game against Liverpool this weekend, "Reiss Nelson is going to be longer. Difficult to say when he's going to be back, but probably around 10 weeks he's going to be out, for sure."

The injury is another frustrating chapter in Nelson's career, which has been punctuated by recurring fitness issues. His latest setback occurred in the 71st minute of last Thursday's match, forcing him off the pitch in clear distress with a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old winger has been dogged by injuries. During the 2022/23 campaign, Nelson missed over 100 days at Arsenal due to thigh problems. A subsequent loan spell at Feyenoord saw him sidelined for 12 matches, and across his career, he has battled various issues, from hamstring and thigh strains to knee, back, ankle, and head injuries, amounting to over 40 games missed.

Nelson's absence will be keenly felt at Fulham, where he has shown flashes of his potential during his season-long loan. However, his future at Craven Cottage appears uncertain. The deal between Fulham and Arsenal does not include an option or obligation to buy, and reports suggest Nelson is not in Arsenal's long-term plans despite having three years remaining on his contract when he returns in the summer.

Despite his fitness concerns, Nelson's talent has attracted interest, with West Ham and Ipswich vying for his services last summer before Fulham secured his loan. Yet, his time in west London is unlikely to extend beyond this season, leaving the winger at a crossroads as he approaches his prime years.

Nelson's next steps will be critical. His talent is undeniable, but repeated injuries have stymied his progress. Whether his future lies at another Premier League club or abroad, the decisions made in the coming months will shape the trajectory of his career.

For now, Nelson's focus will be on recovery, hoping to return to Fulham's campaign and make a mark before his loan spell concludes.

Alex Iwobi interview: Fulham star on his best ever season and the joy of giving back
The Fulham star is next week taking over a supermarket - the 'AleXpress' - to help those in need ahead of Christmas

After a childhood spent idolising Jay-Jay Okocha and Ronaldinho, it is no surprise to learn that Alex Iwobi plays his best football when he can express himself.

Iwobi was inspired watching his uncle, Okocha, and Ronaldinho play together at Paris Saint-Germain and countless days on the school playground where spent trying to replicate their skills.

"Those two were my favourite players to watch growing up," says Iwobi. "It showed me that just being yourself, being who you are, you get accepted.

"Even playing for Sam Allardyce, who was really not known for players like Jay-Jay, he was able to be one of Sam Allardyce's crucial players. Having him as a role model definitely helped me as a kid to express myself and be where I am today."

That desire to express himself is constant throughout Iwobi's life and not just on the football pitch.

Fashion and music are two of the Fulham midfielder's biggest outlets for showcasing his personality, while a recent trip to the hairdresser sums up his carefree nature.

"I got bored of my hair and I didn't want to cut it off so I thought let me do something different that no one else has, so that's how it started," Iwobi says.

"It's red, purple. I literally told the hairdresser: 'Express yourself, but not too wild'. It is wild because it's red at the moment. I like it. I don't know what I'm going to do next."

Iwobi knows where he will be on Sunday, though, just 24 hours after Fulham's clash with Liverpool at Anfield - and the answer is not what you would expect.

The 28-year-old has taken over a supermarket near where he grew up in Canning Town and for one day only it will turn into the 'AleXpress', where everything is free.

It's nice to show I am human and I like to give back. I am not just a footballer. I am the same as everyone else

Alex Iwobi

Iwobi hopes to help 100 families in need by inviting them down to the store and picking out everything they require for Christmas dinner.

"In the house I was raised in, my dad naturally just gave back - to people in Nigeria, to his family," says Iwobi. "Even people in the street, he would just buy bottles of water for them and give them to neighbours.

"You know what Liverpool are like, it's going to be an intense game, but whether I get cramp or I have no hamstrings, I will be there [on Sunday].

"It's nice to show I am human and I like to give back. I am not just a footballer. I am the same as everyone else."

Iwobi will spend his Sunday in a Canning Town supermarket, but back in the summer he was at Paris Fashion Week for the second year running.

Fashion is one of the midfielder's great passions and he believes that creativity can manifest itself on the pitch.

"Even at a certain point, I was going to art galleries to see what the artist thinks when they're painting and what goes through their minds," he says.

"It's the same way with football. If you like to create stuff, create art on the pitch with a skill, a through-ball, a set-piece. That can also be seen as a piece of art.

"I like to see what goes through the mind of musicians and people in the fashion world because there's similarities with footballers."

When he is happy off the pitch, Iwobi believes he plays his best on it and that is part of the reason behind his fine form this season.

The midfielder is Fulham's joint-top scorer and has scored five times in the Premier League, matching his best ever tally from last season.

"You could say it is my best start to the season - I just have to keep it going and make sure it's my best season," says Iwobi. "That's the aim."

Iwobi also credits Marco Silva as being key to his excellent performances. The Fulham boss is "demanding", but gives players the licence to express themselves, too.

"If I do make a mistake, I can go again," says Iwobi. "It's nice to have a manager who gives you the confidence to do that

"Players normally do well when they are confident and with me, feeling confident to express myself on and off the pitch, I almost feel unstoppable."

Silva's willingness to let players express themselves has even extended to the dressing room music, with Iwobi's two singles 'What's Luv?' and 'Don't Shoot' on the playlist.

"I personally don't get it on the dressing room, but when you have team-mates like Calvin Bassey, he just can't help himself," says Iwobi.

"He is tapping the manager to listen to the song as well. He said it was not bad. I know the first time hearing it in the gym, he did not understand what was being said, but he enjoyed the beat. So I guess it's a win-win."

Iwobi will be hoping for another win on Saturday, as Fulham head to Anfield. A draw against Arsenal last week showed how Silva's side can compete with big teams and they are currently 10th in the Premier League, with qualifying for Europe a realistic aim this season.

"We are going there to get a result,"says Iwoibi. "You never know in the Premier League - in any game, anything can happen. Even though they are top of the league, we want to get the result we want.

"With Fulham, the main thing is that there's no egos. Everyone treats each other the same way. There are no stars. Also outside the training ground, we stay in touch.

"We've had a lot of meals in London, we organised a trip to Paris to clear our heads, came back then went again with the Tottenham result and the Brighton result. We've got a meal planned next week. The gaffer wants to take us out

"It's really nice. It's like one big family. We feel like we're ready to fly and we can do anything together."

Harry wins the Premier League's Guinness Goal of the Month award!

Harry Wilson's stunning lob against Brentford has won the Premier League's Guinness Goal of the Month award for November.

It's a goal that will go down in Fulham folklore, drawing us level in the second minute of stoppage time, paving the way for the winger to go on and win the game at the death.

"Obviously the goal was so important, in such a big game for us, for our fans, to get us back level," Wilson told FFCtv after receiving his award. "I think it really gave us that belief that we could go on and win the game, and ultimately we did.

"That moment when it left my foot, it seemed to take forever to loop in. There was silence, and then the roar when it hit the net was amazing.

"That feeling will live with me for a long, long time."

It's only the fifth time that a Fulham player has taken home the Premier League's GOTM trophy, with Wilson following in the footsteps of Jean Michaël Seri, André Schürrle, Ola Aina and Willian.

Arne Slot to Make Key Tactical Change Ahead of Liverpool's Clash with Fulham – Journalist
Arne Slot Expected to Make Important Change Ahead of Fulham Clash

As Liverpool gear up for their upcoming match against Fulham, all eyes are on manager Arne Slot's selection decisions, particularly concerning the forward line. The Reds have faced a challenging season with a handful of injuries, necessitating some tactical audacity.

Diaz's Central Role
David Lynch, speaking to Dave Davis for Anfield Index, highlighted a potential pivot in Liverpool's attacking strategy. Luis Diaz could be stepping into the number nine role, a change spurred by Darwin Nunez's current slump. "I wouldn't be surprised if Luis Diaz comes into the number nine role because Darwin Nunez is so out of form at the moment," Lynch remarked. This possible shift underscores the fluid nature of football tactics and the need for adaptability in response to player performance.

Diaz's potential central positioning is more than a mere experiment; it's a tactical necessity. Nunez, whose form has been notably lacklustre, prompted Lynch to express surprise at his recent inclusion: "I was surprised that he started him against Girona after his performance against Newcastle United, so I don't think he can ignore it again." This statement not only reflects the immediate need for change but also the broader challenges Slot faces in optimizing his squad's output.

Injury Woes and Selection Headaches
Liverpool's lineup considerations are further complicated by a string of injuries and suspensions. "Bradley, Tsimikas, and Konate are all injured so the back four picks itself too," Lynch points out, underlining the restricted choices available for Liverpool's defensive setup. Moreover, with Mac Allister suspended, Slot's midfield options are also limited, adding another layer to the tactical conundrum Liverpool faces.

This scenario places immense pressure on available players but also offers a chance for less prominent squad members to step up and be counted. However, Lynch notes a certain reluctance on Slot's part to lean on the wider squad depth in critical league matches: "He doesn't trust Endo or Morton outside of cup games." This cautious approach to squad rotation could be a double-edged sword, preserving team stability while potentially stifling the growth of emerging talents.

Navigating Through Limited Rotations
The thin spread of available first-team players means Liverpool is likely to field "Liverpool's strongest starting eleven from their current available options," as Lynch confirms. With the congested fixture list, this scenario is far from ideal, as it limits Slot's ability to rotate and keep his team fresh. "There's not a lot of possibility for rotation at the moment," Lynch adds, capturing the essence of Liverpool's current predicament.

Forward Thinking: Adaptation and Expectations
Looking ahead, Liverpool's adaptability will be key to navigating their remaining fixtures. With Diaz potentially leading the line, there could be a significant shift in how Liverpool approaches their attacking game. This change might not only rejuvenate their forward momentum but could also serve as a critical evaluation of Diaz's capability in a central role, possibly reshaping future tactical deployments.

As Liverpool face Fulham, the adaptation of players to new roles and the strategic tweaks by Slot could very well define the remainder of their season. With limited resources and high expectations, the pressure is palpable, but so is the opportunity for strategic brilliance that could turn their fortunes around.

The coming games will be a true test of Liverpool's resilience and tactical flexibility under Arne Slot. As they adjust to their immediate challenges, the broader question of how they evolve from this period will linger, making every match a critical piece of the puzzle in their quest for consistency and success.

Before The Whistle: Liverpool v Fulham

There are no easy games in the Premier League. But there are plenty of hard ones – and Liverpool at Anfield may be top of that list.

We head to the league leaders without a glut of first-team players. Joachim Andersen is still injured, and Calvin Bassey is suspended, so we'll have a makeshift central defensive pairing of Issa Diop and Jorge Cuenca, who's set for his first league start.

In the middle Harrison Reed's still injured and Tom Cairney remains suspended after his red card at Spurs, depleting our options off the bench.

Marco Silva also revealed that Reiss Nelson could be out for up to 10 weeks, in a huge blow for our attacking options. Expect Adama Traore to remain in position for this trip, though Harry Wilson will be keen to get one over his former employers.

The odds certainly seem stacked against us, but I'm sure we're all savvy enough by now not to bet against Marco's boys. A point or more would not only strengthen our chase for Europe, it'd throw the cat amongst the pigeons in the title race, too. Wouldn't that be fun? You Whites.

Liverpool predicted lineup vs Fulham - Premier League

Liverpool face visit from Fulham on Saturday in the Premier League
Reds looking to extend their impressive lead at the summit
Arne Slot's side secured important midweek win over Girona

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon as they aim to extend their lead at the top of the table against Fulham.

The Reds had a rare weekend off following the postponement of the Merseyside derby but have seen their seven-point lead slashed to four as a result. With Chelsea and Arsenal in hot pursuit of Arne Slot's side, victory at home to Fulham is of paramount importance as the games continue to come and thick and fast in the festive period.

Liverpool enjoyed some fierce duels with the Cottagers during four meetings last season and they will be wary of the threat the west London side pose. Alexis Mac Allister, who scored a stunner in this fixture last term, is suspended this Saturday, while the likes of of Conor Bradley, Kostas Tsimikas and Ibrahima Konate are all absent as Slot looks to manage his squad effectively.

Here is how Liverpool could line up at the weekend.

Liverpool predicted lineup vs Fulham (4-3-3)
GK: Alisson - Alisson showed his worth on his return from the treatment room midweek. The Brazilian, who has been covered by the impressive Caoimhin Kelleher over the past two months, started against Girona in the Champions League and dazzled with a typically excellent display.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold - Slot learned the dangers of resting Alexander-Arnold against Newcastle United around ten days ago. Liverpool struggled without one of their chief creators and the No.66 supplied two assists in a 23-minute cameo from the bench.

CB: Joe Gomez - Gomez doesn't always cut a commanding figure at the back, even with Virgil van Dijk acting as chaperone. He struggled against Arnaut Danjuma midweek and will be tested by the in-form Raul Jimenez on Saturday.

CB: Virgil van Dijk - You know what you will get from Liverpool's skipper, who is a beacon of consistency. The towering Dutchman has been integral in the Premier League's sternest defence this season.

LB: Andy Robertson - Having endured a shaky and unpredictable start to the campaign, Robertson was much improved against Girona. He may well endure a tougher time against the baby-oiled Adama Traore at the weekend.

CM: Dominik Szoboszlai - The suspension of Mac Allister for five Premier League yellow cards means Slot may utilise the same midfield that faced Girona. Unlike his teammate Van Dijk, it's often difficult to predict which Szoboszlai you will witness on any given matchday.

CM: Ryan Gravenberch - Gravenberch offered up another commanding defensive midfield performance in Spain without his usual partner Mac Allister - who was suspended again on Tuesday night. He's been ever so consistent this season.

CM: Curtis Jones - Jones has shown his ability to be the difference maker for Liverpool in recent weeks and Slot will want some magic from the local lad this weekend after a flat performance against Girona.

RW: Mohamed Salah - Incredibly, Salah has scored in each of his last seven Premier League matches. He's closing in on Jamie Vardy's record of 11 games in a row and you would be foolish to bet against the Egyptian netting at the weekend.

ST: Luis Diaz - Darwin Nunez continues to frustrate those on Merseyside and his midweek performance wasn't enough to earn a start against a weakened Fulham backline. Diogo Jota could be in Saturday's matchday squad after a long injury layoff but it will likely be Diaz who leads the line.

LW: Cody Gakpo - Having scored in successive games against Real Madrid and Manchester City, Gakpo returned blanks against Newcastle and Girona. He scored and assisted against the Cottagers last term.

Liverpool vs. Fulham: Premier League 2023-24 Preview & Team News
Liverpool return to the league after an unexpected week off — and off the back of a poor-performing win mid-week

LIVERPOOL VS. FULHAM
| Saturday, December 14th |
Premier League | Anfield
3PM GMT/10AM EST

Fulham come into this match in 10th on the Premier League table — but they're just four points off the top four. Their recent run suggests they're something serious to worry about: they drew at home to Arsenal last time out after beating Brighton and drawing against Tottenham (with 10 men late, putting out their impetus). Indeed, their league position doesn't quite tell us what they've achieved as a club, as their points total of 23 is their second-highest in the Premier League era over 15 matches. They look to go unbeaten in four straight (challenging) aways.

Marco Silva's side are without Reiss Nelson, who picked up a hamstring injury against Brighton that will see him face a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and this match likely comes too soon for Joachim Anderson. Tom Cairney, who scored and then saw red against Tottenham, as well as Calvin Bassey are suspended this weekend.

Liverpool have grafted and struggled against Fulham in recent seasons — it's hard to remember a simple win! — but equally the Cottagers have one win in the last 14 matches against the Reds in all competitions (in March in that 2021 horror season). Though that 2021 win did come at Anfield, it's just one of two wins that Fulham have there in 38 tries (all competitions). Though Liverpool's defense is slowly but surely coming back to fitness and stability, it should be noted that Fulham have scored in 14 consecutive matches. Raúl Jímenez is the man to watch in front of goal, even if he's only scored against the Reds once (at any club).

Alex Iwobi, too, is one to watch, as he's been in fine form for Fulham, causing loads of problems for opposition midfielders while scoring five and assisting three.

Predicted Liverpool Lineup (4-2-3-1)
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Jones; Szoboszlai, Salah, Díaz; Núñez

Liverpool come in with some positive injury news for months, as Arne Slot has said that both Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa could be involved against Fulham (though we'll assume neither will start). Alexis Mac Allister will have to miss this one with suspension, and Ibrahima Konaté, Conor Bradley, and Kostas Tsimikas are still sidelined with injury.

Curtis Jones will likely be selected in the midfield, with Slot having decisions to make around the midfield and up front. The Liverpool coach has Harvey Elliott back to think about, and the considerations around Cody Gakpo, Darwin Núñez, and Luis Díaz will soon become more complicated by Jota's return. It's worth remembering that Jota was firmly the first choice at No 9 prior to his injury, and while it's unlikely he'll walk back in to start after such a long time out, he'll certainly be looking to regain his spot in the hierarchy as soon as possible.

Liverpool Host Fulham in Crucial Premier League clash at Anfield
Liverpool vs Fulham – Premier League Preview

Date – 14th December 2024
Venue – Anfield
Kick-off – 15.00 GMT

After a trip to Spain and a solid 0-1 midweek win over Girona in the Champions League on Tuesday, the Reds now host West London outfit Fulham, with a desire to take all three points and maintain their healthy lead at the pinnacle of the Premier League standings. The Cottager's manager, Marco Silva, continues to impress in his role as manager and will be looking for another good performance, after taking two points off Arsenal last weekend.

Fulham Availability
Reiss Nelson, Harrison Reed, Calvin Bassey, and Joachim Andersen, are all unavailable for the visitors due to injury, whereas Tom Cairney is serving a one-game suspension. Their recent form includes a 1-1 draw at home the Mikel Arteta's Gunners, a superb 3-1 win over Brighton at Craven Cottage, as well as a 1-1 away to Tottenham. Following fifteen games played, Fulham sit 10th in the English top tier, with an impressive 23 points taken.

A predicted lineup for the away team is listed below, in a 4-2-3-1 formation. With Calvin Bassey seemingly unavailable, it could see Sander Berge dropped into the backline, thereby allowing the combative Andreas Pereira to be recalled. The rest of the side should remain which started against Arsenal, with Rodrigo Muniz and Harry Wilson being the only other starting alternatives of note.

GK – Bernd Leno

RB – Kenny Tete

RCB – Issa Diop

LCB – Sander Berge

LB – Antonee Robinson

CM – Saša Lukić

ACM – Emile Smith Rowe

CM – Andreas Pereira

RW – Alex Iwobi

CF – Raúl Jiménez

LW – Adama Traoré

Liverpool Availability
Federico Chiesa is now in first-team training, however, he will likely feature against Southampton in next week's EFL Cup. Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konaté and Kostas Tsimikas are unavailable for Arne Slot for the next batch of games. Diogo Jota may well make the bench for this game, whereas Alexis Mac Allister is serving a one-game suspension.

In terms of recent form, before the 3-3 draw with Newcastle at St James Park, Liverpool convincingly defeated Manchester City 2-0 at Anfield, following a 2-0 victory against fellow Champions League contenders Real Madrid, also at Anfield. This success came after a hard-fought 3-2 win at Southampton. After fourteen games played, Liverpool sits at the top of the Premier League with an impressive total of 35 points.

Below is the team I believe the Dutch boss, Arne Slot, will start for this vital encounter. The only question appears to be whether to persevere with his Uruguayan striker, Darwin Núñez or move his other South American attacker, Luis Díaz, into the centre-forward position.

GK – Alisson Becker

RB – Trent Alexander Arnold

RCB – Joe Gomez

LCB – Virgil van Dijk (c)

LB – Andy Robertson

CM – Curtis Jones

ACM – Dominik Szoboszlai

CM – Ryan Gravenberch

RF – Mohamed Salah

CF – Darwin Núñez

LF – Cody Gakpo

How Will This Contest Play Out
Liverpool aims to maintain momentum and overcome a spirited and competitive opposition. With home advantage and a winning mentality installed within the league leaders, I suspect a hard-fought win will befall the Reds, however, they will be made to work for it. Emile Smith Rowe will undoubtedly be the key man for Fulham, as his creative approach will be vital to away success his team achieves.

Player to Watch – Dominik Szoboszlai

Steven Smith's Score Prediction:

Liverpool 2 – 1 Fulham

Reiss Nelson suffers serious and frustrating injury while on loan at Fulham
An Arsenal star has been dealt a major injury blow.

When we hear the name Reiss Nelson, most gooners can not help but remember that wonder goal against Bournemouth early last year. As magical as that moment was in his Arsenal career, it wasn't enough to see him win a starting role in the side even throughout the last campaign.

After years of limited game time, he finally made a temporary switch last summer in search of more minutes. His loan move to Fulham was a straightforward loan move without any options to buy.

This was potentially in part due to the club's intention of building up his confidence and value ahead of a potential sale next summer or a chance with us. He was well on his way to a good season with the Cottagers despite his three G/A in twelve appearances, but it seems he picked up an unfortunate injury against Brighton recently.

Having already been scheduled to be taken off just minutes prior, he would've been gutted to pull up with a very serious looking injury just before he was taken off. He subsequently missed their very next game against us (which he would've missed anyway as he's on loan) as we awaited news of a potential return date.

Marco Silva has finally revealed this update, and it is not good news. Speaking about their injury worries, he told the media ahead of their weekend clash with Liverpool, that: "Harrison Reed, we have to see, step by step. Reiss Nelson is going to be longer. Difficult to say when he's going to be back, but probably around 10 weeks he's going to be out, for sure."

This will sadly see him not returning until February or March depending on how smooth the recovery process goes. This will be a big blow to Arsenal's chances of having his value increased given the large chunk of the season he'll have to miss out. Regardless however our thoughts and wellwishes will obviously be with Reiss.

Let's hope he has a quick recovery!

Liverpool vs Fulham: Match Preview, Latest Team News and Prediction
Liverpool vs Fulham: An Intriguing Premier League Clash at Anfield

Liverpool are set to host Fulham in a fascinating Premier League encounter this Saturday, with the game poised to kick off at 3pm GMT at Anfield. This match promises not only to be a pivotal moment in Liverpool's season under Arne Slot, but also a test against a Fulham side that has shown considerable pluck and capability against top-tier opposition.

Fulham's Formidable Challenge
Despite the odds, Fulham have displayed commendable form, holding Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in their last outing and establishing themselves as a credible threat this season. Their resilience in recent matches ensures they will head to Anfield not just to participate but to potentially upset the home side.

Liverpool, despite being one of the titans of the league, will not take this encounter lightly. The narrative around Liverpool's home ground Anfield as a fortress is well known, but Fulham's recent performances suggest that they have the armoury to challenge this claim.

Team Dynamics and Key Players
The home team will have to navigate this fixture without Alexis Mac Allister, who is serving a suspension after accumulating five yellow cards, most recently in their 3-3 draw against Newcastle. The availability of key players like Alisson, who returned in the midweek game, could be a significant boost for Liverpool. His presence between the sticks brings not just skill but also an emotional lift for the team and the home fans. However, injury concerns linger with players like Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa doubtful, and Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, and Kostas Tsimikas sidelined.

Fulham, on the other hand, might be without Reiss Nelson, adding to the absence of Harrison Reed. The status of Joachim Andersen will need clarification closer to match day due to a recent calf strain. Both Tom Cairney and Calvin Bassey will miss the game due to suspensions, which could pose lineup challenges for the Cottagers.

Anticipated Strategies and Match Prediction
With Liverpool expected to dominate possession, Fulham might deploy a counter-attacking strategy, which has served them well in challenging environments. Liverpool's approach under Slot has been about dynamic movement and controlling the game's tempo, but Fulham's ability to disrupt this rhythm could be key.

The clash at Anfield is expected to be tightly contested, but with the depth of talent at Liverpool's disposal and the tactical acumen of Slot, Liverpool are anticipated to secure a victory. However, given Fulham's recent form, especially in away games where they remain unbeaten in their last three, the result is anything but a foregone conclusion.

Viewer's Guide and Coverage
Match of the Day will broadcast highlights at 10.30pm on BBC One, ensuring no pivotal moment is missed.

This match-up between Liverpool and Fulham isn't just a routine fixture but a test of mettle, strategy, and resilience for both clubs. As Liverpool aim to fortify their position at the top end of the Premier League table, Fulham are equally poised to demonstrate that their recent performances are no fluke. Expect a game charged with intensity and brimming with tactical nuances this weekend at Anfield.

'One of the best' – 12-second battle with Bukayo Saka proves American is truly a Premier League superstar
Antonee Robinson has missed just three Premier League matches across the past three seasons.

After a starring role in keeping Arsenal sensation Bukayo Saka quiet last weekend, he has cemented his status as one of the top full-backs in England.

It was a sentiment shared by Fulham manager Marco Silva following his side's impressive 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Craven Cottage.

"He's been great for us," Silva said. "He's one of the best left-backs in this league.

"It's not just the way he is able to stop players, but the way he is able to help ourselves.

"In open play, last season he was the full-back in this league with (the) most assists and this season (he) is probably one of the full-backs with the most assists.

"He's a top player and a great professional. He's a proper athlete and is improving in some defensive positions we want him to improve.

"He's improving season by season, and week by week you can see he is improving, and we are really proud to have him with us."

After 15 rounds, Robinson leads all defenders in the Premier League with four assists this season after finishing fourth in the assist charts last time around.

But against Arsenal, it was Robinson's defensive duties that truly marked the progress he's made over the course of his career in England - particularly over the past 12 months.

Facing one of the Premier League's elite wingers in Saka, Robinson didn't just add to Fulham's impressive attacking display but played a major role in holding the England international to one of his quieter games of the season.

Saka came into proceedings with five combined goals and assists in his previous three games but Robinson's match-high six tackles and close attention to the winger kept him suitably at bay as Fulham continued a strong start to the season with a valuable point.

One moment in particular highlighted Robinson's standout performance and his increased defensive capabilities as he presented a nightmarish proposition for Saka.

With seven minutes left in the first half, Saka received the ball on Arsenal's right flank and immediately found Robinson at his back.

Saka twisted and turned but found no way past the American full-back who held him up, allowed his team to retreat, and eventually poked the ball out for a throw-in.

It was a moment that encompassed the diligent and determined performance that has become commonplace for Robinson and led to him taking over as Fulham captain in Tom Cairney's absence.

It was also a moment that encompassed what Jonathan Wilson wrote about Robinson in the Guardian following the draw.

"Since Fulham's return to the Premier League in 2022, the Milton Keynes-born USA international has been one of the most consistent left-backs in the division and yet is a weirdly undiscussed figure," he explained.

"He played a vital role in restricting Arsenal's threat. Where others have a tendency to stand off Bukayo Saka, Robinson engaged him aggressively and had the better of their duel."

Meanwhile, Miguel Delaney of the Independent even felt that Robinson's performance was the blueprint and standard-bearer for anyone coming up against Saka, writing: "Antonee Robinson has handled Saka about as well as anyone in world football - brilliant individual performance."

As well as leading all defenders in assists this season, Robinson has also amassed the most combined tackles and interceptions to underline his growth as a complete full-back.

It doesn't get any easier. After Saka, enter Mohamed Salah.

On Saturday, Fulham travel to Anfield to face arguably the league's most potent threat in Salah. It's another huge test for Robinson and there could be more than just three points on the table.

Robinson is looking to take over Andy Robertson's place as the Premier League's best left-back and with the Scotsman coming to the end of his Liverpool career, links between 'Jedi' and the Scouse club are only growing.

His energy and excellence at both ends of the pitch make him a natural replacement for Robertson and Fulham will likely face a massive battle to keep him at the club.

Tactical Preview: How Liverpool Can Expose Fulham in Premier League Clash
Analysing Liverpool's Approach Against Fulham: An In-depth Preview

As Liverpool gears up for their Premier League encounter with Fulham, insights from Dr Barts, shared in a recent discussion with Dave Davis on the Anfield Index podcast, shed light on the nuances of this upcoming match. Dr Barts provided a detailed statistical analysis, pointing out that Fulham have conceded 20 goals this season, though the expected goals against (xGA) stats suggest a figure slightly lower, at 18. This discrepancy highlights a slight misfortune in their defensive outcomes.

Moreover, Fulham's attack shows similar patterns of slight underachievement. They've scored 22 goals while the expected goals (xG) stats indicated they should have netted 24. "They've scored 22 goals, but the stats expected them to score 24, so they have been a little bit unlucky at both ends of the pitch," Dr Barts explained. This element of 'bad luck' could play a critical role in how Fulham approaches the game against Liverpool.

Fulham's Mid-Table Positioning and Expectations
Fulham's current standing in the league is very much a reflection of their performance metrics. According to Dr Barts, "In terms of expected points, they're actually two points over where they should be. It's very mid-table and that's what they do." This suggests that while Fulham may not be overachieving, they are solidly performing to expectations, which makes them a stable, if unpredictable, opponent.

Their recent performance against Arsenal, where they managed a 1-1 draw while only conceding an expected goals of 0.2 against almost 2.00 expected goals conceded (xGC), indicates a robust defensive strategy that significantly underplays their overall defensive vulnerabilities—especially considering their issues with set-pieces. "Defending set-pieces is a bit of a weakness for them and Arsenal really exploited that," noted Dr Barts.

Set-Pieces: Liverpool's Opportunity
Given Fulham's struggles with defending set-pieces, this area represents a significant opportunity for Liverpool. Under Arne Slot, Liverpool has shown adaptability and tactical nous that could very well capitalize on these specific weaknesses. Preparing targeted set-piece drills could be key in tilting the match in Liverpool's favour, exploiting a known chink in Fulham's armour.

Playing to Liverpool's Strengths
Dr Barts remains optimistic about Liverpool's chances, suggesting that a performance close to their usual standard should be enough to secure a victory. "It's at home, it's not going to be an easy game, but I suggest that if we play anywhere near our level then I would suggest we come out the right side of it," he said. This sentiment underscores the importance of Liverpool maintaining their form and focusing on their game plan, particularly in exploiting Fulham's defensive lapses.

In conclusion, while Fulham presents a mid-table challenge with slight underperformance on both ends of the pitch, Liverpool's strategic application, especially in set-pieces, could very well be the decisive factor. As Dr Barts pointed out, Fulham's stats reflect slight misfortune, but Liverpool's quality and home advantage should ideally see them through. As Arne Slot prepares his team, this match offers a perfect scenario to assert dominance and perhaps, more crucially, correct course in their league campaign.

With the match poised as a blend of tactical analysis and potential exploitation of statistical weaknesses, all eyes will be on Anfield to see if Liverpool can translate Dr Barts' insights into a practical victory. This is more than just a game; it's a test of Liverpool's ability to adapt, strategize, and overcome the odds set against them.

Arsenal, Fulham vying for Breno Bidon
Arsenal and Fulham are reportedly interested in signing 19-year-old Brazilian midfield whizkid Breno Bidon from Corinthians.

According to a report by Brazilian outlet Trivela, Breno Bidon is the subject of interest from Fulham. The Cottagers are scouring the market for a playmaker amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Andreas Pereira, with the Corinthians midfielder emerging as a target. Meanwhile, the Brazilian whizkid is also a target for Arsenal.

Who is Breno Bidon?
Breno Bidon is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. A native of Sao Paulo, the South American midfield prodigy has spent his formative years thus far in his hometown, passing through the academies at three clubs. He has progressed through the ranks at Corinthians before breaking into the club's first-team squad.

The 19-year-old made his senior bow for Corinthians in the 2024 season and has already turned out nearly 50 times thus far for the Serie A outfit while chipping in with one goal and two assists. Meanwhile, Bidon's progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe.

The highly-rated midfielder, who turns out for Brazil's under-20 side, has piqued the attention of Premier League outfits, in particular. Arsenal and Fulham are vying for the signature of the Brazilian wonderkid, with a move to London on the cards for the teenage prospect.

London calling?
Arsenal's interest in Breno Bidon is understandable. Thomas Partey and Jorginho are on the wrong side of 30 and fast approaching the twilight of their careers. In addition, Fabio Vieira faces an uncertain future at the Emirates. So, Arsenal should invest in a midfielder, with several candidates, including Bidon, emerging as viable targets.

As for Fulham, Andreas Pereira's long-term future has left the West London club in a spot of bother. The Brazilian international is a target for several Premier League clubs, forcing Fulham to scour the market for a replacement. So, several midfielders are on the Cottagers' radar, with Bidon also being an option worth considering.

However, the Corinthians whizkid will not come cheap, considering he has a release clause worth €100 million in his contract. While the Brazilian club might not insist on recouping €100 million, the 19-year-old will likely command a premium fee amid his links with Arsenal and Fulham.

'We are not scared' - Fulham ace Iwobi warns Liverpool ahead of Anfield clash
Alex Iwobi has declared Fulham's readiness to face Liverpool in the Premier League fixture that will take place at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

The Cottagers have been brilliant this season. They have garnered 23 points from 15 games and are four points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City.

Iwobi has played a key role in their brilliant start to the season. He has started all league games this season, registering five goals and three assists.

The eight-goal involvements he has is the most he has registered after 15 games in the Premier League since making his debut in the competition in the 2015/2016 season.

Fulham forced Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage last weekend and will be seeking to get a positive result against Liverpool tomorrow.

Speaking ahead of the game, Iwobi has declared that the Cottagers are ready to face the table-toppers, with the result of the game likely to affect the title race.

"It shows we have the ability to compete with anyone. We are not scared. Hopefully it will be the same against Liverpool.

"We are going there to get a result," Iwobi told the Daily Mail.

The Nigerian midfielder has featured against Liverpool on 14 occasions. He has yet to score a goal against them, but he has four assists.

However, he has not recorded a goal contribution against the Reds since the 2018/2019 season, when he provided an assist for Arsenal in their 5-1 defeat to the Anfield side.

Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Tottenham vying for Andreas Pereira
Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to sign 28-year-old Brazilian midfielder Andreas Pereira from Fulham next year.

According to a report by Brazilian outlet Trivela, Andreas Pereira is gaining popularity in the market ahead of the two transfer windows next year. Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur are among the prospective suitors for the Fulham midfielder. Meanwhile, the Cottagers want to keep the 28-year-old until the 2024/25 season.

Andreas Pereira and his resurgence
Andreas Pereira has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Fulham from Manchester United in July 2022. A native of Duffel, the Belgium-born playmaker was eligible to represent Belgium and Brazil in international football. While he turned out for the former in his early days of age-group football, he has picked Brazil as his national side since the under-20 level.

Meanwhile, Pereira passed through the academies at five clubs during his formative years and was a highly-rated prospect during his time at Manchester United. However, the 28-year-old could not fulfil his potential at Old Trafford and has finally made his mark at Fulham. The Brazilian international has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for the West London club while chipping in with nine goals and 15 assists.

Meanwhile, Pereira's progress at Fulham has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known Premier League clubs and other high-profile European outfits. Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur are among his prospective suitors, having also followed him in the summer transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Aston Villa can do with a player like Andreas Pereira, whose versatility makes him the ideal foil for Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins. As for Newcastle United, Sandro Tonali faces an uncertain future at St. James' Park, with recent reports linking him with Juventus and AC Milan.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur will delve into the market for a midfielder next year, with recent reports linking the North London outfit with several versatile midfielders. So, Pereira has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Fulham would prefer to keep hold of the 28-year-old Brazilian international until the end of the 2024/25 season. Meanwhile, the Cottagers are scouring the market for a replacement, with Breno Bidon emerging as the top target to replace Pereira.

Fulham U21 4-0 Derby U21
Fulham Under-21s headed into the Christmas break off the back of seven straight wins after a 4-0 victory over Derby County at Motspur Park.

Callum Osmand, who was announced as the PL2 Player of the Month for November on Friday morning, scored a first-half brace to make it nine goals in the striker's last four games, while Kristian Šekularac and Aaron Loupalo-Bi added a goal each after the interval to ensure our youngsters will head into the Christmas break in second in the league table.

It didn't take long for Osmand to continue his sensational form as Gordon ran onto a loose back pass and took his time before picking out Osmand in the box, who rolled the ball into the back of the net from close range.

But our Young Whites suffered a blow shortly after as Ollie Gofford, who has been a standout performer for Hayden Mullins' side at right-back this season, was forced off with an injury and had to be replaced by the returning Bradley De Jesus.

Osmand was at the double in the 19th minute, heading home a cross from the left at the near post to double our advantage.

Centre-back Eddy Nsasi doesn't score many, but he tested Derby goalkeeper Jack Thompson with a rasping effort from just outside the box after a Jon Esenga corner had only been half cleared.

Osmand should have had a first-half hat-trick, but he decided to try and pick out Terrell Works when shooting at goal may have been the better option, and a Derby defender cut out his pass.

The 19-year-old would have another chance before the half was out, hitting a sweet half volley from 18 yards, but it flew just past Thompson's near post.

Not long after the restart, Marco Underwood made an impressive reaction save to deny Kei Robinson, before a goalmouth scrambled ensued from the resulting corner, which the lads defended well.

Our third goal came 20 minutes after the restart as Šekularac was quickest to react as Thompson spilled Terrell Works' shot into the Switzerland youth international's path.

Underwood made another smart stop late on, getting down low to tip wide Cruz Allen's curling effort.

There was still time for another time as Loupalo-Bi raced through and arrowed a powerful shot past Thompson in stoppage-time.

The PL2 calendar will now take a break for the Christmas period, with our U21s returning to action on Monday 6th January with an away game at Crystal Palace, 7pm kick-off at Gander Green Lane.

Fulham U21: Underwood, Gofford (Brad de Jesus 15'), Nsasi, Park, Esenga, Donnell, Nwoko (Quashie 66'), Gordon, Sekularac, Works, Osmand (Loupalo-Bi 66')

Derby County U21: Thompson, Isaac Gordon, Rooney, Robinson, Gill, McAndrew, Turley (Tola 61'), Allen, Eames (Ilesanmi 61'), Osong, Oguntolu (Agustien 69')
