Not really. The club were after him all window, the failure here is the lack of preparation by PSV to find a possible replacement. They had plenty of time.

Quote from: Angus Telford on February 04, 2026, 07:53:21 PMAt the start of the recently concluded window, the Dutch club rejected Fulham's initial bid. On January 12th, PSV general manager Marcel Brands revealed Marco Silva's side offered €25m.

Fulham didn't give up and their last bid was around €35m, made towards the end of the window. There wasn't enough time for PSV to secure a suitable replacement for the American.

Achingly familiar

I really do accept that it's never easy and that circumstances may not always be in our favour - players may not want to come etc . However something just isn't right - it's invariably a case of " same old story - different day" .

By all accounts he did want to come. It's just the recruitment team p1ss1ng about as per.
Maybe, but we negotiated the price down from 40 million odd euros to 35 million or so, that can take time. It is rumours that PSV were talking to us about him since late December as he was available for the right price (see I got 35 million euros or there about) but yet they didn't look at any replacements. So yes maybe we took too long,I would ask why didn't PSV line up potential replacements as seems to be the norm in these matters.

Not defending the club but trying to see both sides

I get the feeling PSV never intended to sell Pepi if they took this long to look for a replacement, especially since the two clubs were in talks since December.

I don't think it would be a great idea, for any club to identify a target that is achievable, before ensuring you get the fee you are wanting ( or near to it ) . If it gets out that you have a target when negotiations are still taking place it really weakens your position .
As I said in my previous post I'm not necessarily blaming our team on this occasion ( as I don't know the facts ) but the recurring theme is what concerns me.

Angus Telford

If his value is at least €35m (that's what we were ultimately prepared to pay) and we were only offering two-thirds of that for most of the window, you can see why they might not immediately scramble to sign a replacement. They probably assumed we were too far apart to make a deal, and didn't realise they were dealing with a club that only makes realistic offers in the last few days of the window.

Reportedly there was only 2m difference between both sides 10 days before the window closed so PSV knew we were serious yet made no attempt to find a replacement. They were determined to keep their player in the hope he has a good World Cup which increases his value.

They are going to regret turning our offer down, if they're not already.

I think this is the nail in the coffin for the standard of the Brazilian league if he can score at that rate given how average he looked in England

When he was with us he couldn't score in a knocking shop

Though he'll be forever remembered for one particular goal in a certain local derby... ::wine::

Ex Toffees CEO seems impressed with Fulham's January business, and in general with how the team is shaping up under Marco Silva. Silva would be a fool to leave us now, no? 🤔

Jim©

Yeah, he was a bit more useful (in terms of scoring) than he'll get remembered for- 7 prem goals in 1700 minutes, a ratio that compares well to a lot of good CFs. Also scored winning goals in a few games, crowned off by the Chelsea header. Never understood the dislike of the bloke- a very decent 3rd CF to have on the books.

1440 minutes to be exact (2A as well). 8G and 3A in all comps in 1791 minutes.
