Strange but true

I know some of you older fans will know this. Eddie zLowes brother Reg, also played for us and he once scored header from the Fulham half, which at the time, was a world record for a headed goal. It was in a Football Combination game (Reserves) at the Cottage in the early fifties

I recall this. Reg had to retire through injury I also seem to recall. I wonder, does this record still stand?

I remember the game well, I am sure Peabody will remember Ken Hewkins our keeper taking a penalty the ball hit the crossbar,bounced over his head and an opponent ran the other end and scored.  Those reserve games were great entertainment.

Eddie was my much admired role model, playing left-half, the same position as me.

Aware of Reg, but never saw him play, before my time., though do remember seeing Ken Hewkins in  reserve games, so may have seen Reg if he played in the the same team

Remember ken Hewkins as Tony Macedo's understudy when I began watching Fulham, though I think he had been first choice  previously.

I believe he was a South African, and I have a strong memory of him being the only player in the Fulham squad who wouldn't sign an autograph, and have a memory of chasing him up Stevenage road, trying to get him to sign my photo, but he resolutely refused.

Yes I do remember him,he was quite a good keeper. He was replaced with Dave Underwood, who I think came from Watford and again was good in, but neither was anywhere near Macedo quality.

Never saw the Reg Lowe goal but remember reports of it and don't forget it was the old leather ball , a great achievement,
Reg ,a big strong left back never made many first team appearances but brother Eddie (Sticks) was a very good half back and served us well.

Player description

The Club was deeply saddened to learn that former player Reg Lowe passed away at the weekend.

Reg joined Fulham from Aston Villa in May 1950 alongside his brother Eddie, and went on to make 72 appearances for the Whites.

He made his debut in an excellent Division One win away at Sunderland and was the Club's first choice full-back from December onwards in the 1950/51 campaign when Fulham managed to preserve their top-flight status.

A regular, too, for the following season and a half, his career was cut short when he suffered a leg break in a league match away at Luton Town in January 1953. The Hatters later provided the opposition for Reg's testimonial put on by Fulham.

*** He never scored in the league for the Whites during his time at the Club, but he did once find the net with a 60-yard header in a London Challenge Cup Semi-Final.***

Everyone at Fulham offers their condolences to Reg's wife Sheila, and our thoughts are with all his family and friends.

Hi just seen this whilst researching something else - Reg scored the long range header in our 2-1 win V Millwall in the London Challenge Cup Semi-Final replay. Reg was just before the halfway line when Millwall's goalie, Brewer, made a long clearance, Reg met the ball on the drop and headed it into the Millwall goal...
