Do we ever win (or lose) a game by more than one goal?

We always seem to go ahead and take our foot off the gas, or go behind and then have to put our foot down. Never a relaxing game. Or a second to take a toilet break.

Good question which I thought I'd apply to our entire league history.

After yesterday we've played 4,502 league games.

In those 4,502 games we've won by one goal in 780 of them (17.33% of all games) and lost by one goal in 826 of them (18.34% of all games).

Put another way this means that we have won (or lost) 1,606 league games by just the one goal, representing 35.67% of all our league games, or just over one in every three games where we have won or lost by just one goal.

Unsurprisingly our most common win by just the one goal is 1-0 (360 times) and our most common defeat by just the one goal is 0-1 (371 times).  At the other extreme we have won 5-4 three times (twice at home, once away) and have lost 4-5 twice (once at home and once away).

Yes, but have we ever won 10-1 in the top flight to set a record that has never been matched?
Any fool can criticise, condemn and complain, and most fools do.

In all of professional sport, the main thing at the end of the day is the "W".  Doesn't matter if it's an ugly win or not.  Garner maximum points, this is a tough league, and not every game is gonna be pretty.

I thought FFC backline defense was terrible in this game v Burnley.  Just terrible.  Leno finally earned his paycheck, and kept FFC in this game.  Of course, not a clean sheet (nothing new with that) but he did make some great saves to allow the capture of three points in this game.

As far as the one goal thing is concerned, I actually was anticipating that second Burnley goal and hoping, after that tally, we could escape the ground with more than one point.  Did expect another late score and a disappointing end to the day.  But, that's FFC for you this season.  Can be very disappointing and frustrating at times.  Thank goodness they were able to hold on to the three points.

On a more positive note, even though FFC really hasn't performed at its' best this season, it does show the team is always competitive, in almost every game, and even in losses only by the slimmest of margins.
