Silva responds to question mark over team selection after Fulham's tame FA Cup exit
It was the issue bugging many a frustrated Fulham fan as the Whites bowed out of the FA Cup in such a deflating way.

Beaten on home soil by Championship side Southampton after conceding an injury time penalty.

There could be no excuses about the defeat, even if they were arguably unlucky to have a goal chalked off when Saints tried to take a quick free-kick that they messed up to gift a free shot for Rodrigo Muniz.

The talking point was more about why Marco Silva had opted to make so many changes and rotate his line-up when Fulham had a golden opportunity to book a quarter-final slot - and be one game away from a Wembley semi-final.

Capital Football asked the Fulham boss after the 1-0 defeat whether he had any regrets about benching key regulars like Kenny Tete, Calvin Bassey and Antonee Robinson and whether it was a mistake to withhold Raul Jimenez and Alex Iwobi until late in the game as the Whites struggled to land a telling punch.

Sasa Lukic and Sander Berge were also kept on the sidelines, with Bernd Leno dropped at the expense of Benjamin Lecomte, which has become the norm for cup ties.

"It was a very bad afternoon for us. I understand the question of course, when you make nine changes," Marco Silva said. "It was my decision. I'm the coach and the manager of the football club.

"But if Joachim [Andersen], Cuenca, Timothy [Castagne] Sessegnon  they are not good enough to win a cup tie - and they have started games against top sides in the Premier League - and if Emile Smith Rowe and Rodrigo [Muniz] along with Chukwueze and Oscar Bobb they are not enough to win a cup tie, we have to look in a different way.

"The only two players that are probably not playing enough football so far this season are the goalkeeper - but that's a decision from us that he plays in the cups - and Harrison Reed, who was probably one of the most consistent players throughout the game this afternoon. All the others, I'm sorry to tell you all of them they are [good enough to win the tie].

"If you ask me, I agree that Alex Iwobi is a starting XI player for ourselves always when he's ready but I'm 100 per cent sure he cannot be playing every single minute in every single match in the Premier League and the cup as well. But OK, I took that decision."

Harry Wilson contract claim emerges amid Leeds United, Aston Villa, Everton and Wrexham links to Fulham star
Fulham have not given up hope of retaining Leeds United-linked winger Harry Wilson, according to a report.

The end of the 2025/26 season is in sight and Wilson has not yet penned fresh terms at Craven Cottage.

He has been a crucial figure in Marco Silva's side this season, registering nine goals and six assists in the Premier League.

However, doubts over his future have only intensified since the collapse of his proposed move to Leeds in the last summer window.

Harry Wilson latest
Leeds have continued to be linked with the Wales international, while there has also been talk of interest from the likes of Aston Villa, Everton and Wrexham.

According to SportsBoom, Fulham have not resigned themselves to losing their wing wizard on a free transfer in the summer.

An improved contract offer is thought to have been tabled, with the club hierarchy said to be doing everything they can to keep Wilson on board.

It would be a bitter blow for the Cottagers if Wilson moved on and frustration would only be intensified by the absence of a fee.

Leeds were keen on signing Wilson last summer, therefore it hardly seems implausible that interest could be renewed in the next window.

However, Leeds' system change in recent months means there is now a greater reliance on wing-backs than wingers. It remains to be seen whether or not this influences summer business at Elland Road.

One thing fans can be sure of is that Wilson will be beyond reach if the club drop into the Championship.

Having starred in the Premier League, a Championship move would be a huge backwards step for the former Hull City loan star.

Collapsed move to Leeds United
Speaking in December about the collapse of his proposed switch to Elland Road, Wilson said: "It was the first time it had happened to me. I'm used to watching it on Sky Sports, so to be part of it was different.

"My phone was going off every two minutes. It was going to happen, then it wasn't going to happen. Then it was back on, then it was off.

"It wasn't a certain few days or 24 hours. I didn't know where I was going to be. It was a bit of a relief when the window closed and I could concentrate on the football."

Keith Hackett re-analyses Fulham-Southampton disallowed goal controversy after 'another camera angle' emerges
Marco Silva and Fulham can have no complaints after Jarred Gillett disallowed a goal against Southampton in the FA Cup.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that, while Daniel Peretz was fortunate, the referee made the right call on Sunday, 8 March.

Very little happened in the first half at Craven Cottage, but there was a bizarre moment when the Saints' goalkeeper booted the ball into his own teammate, with the ball bobbling into the back of his own net.

Gillett had already blown the whistle, however, leading to Silva's players surrounding the referee, with the home supporters wanting an explanation for why the goal had been disallowed.

Jarred Gillett correct to disallow bizarre own goal vs Fulham
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former referee said: "I know Jarred's coach, who's in Australia, and he's likely had a discussion. The reality is that, according to the referee, the ball was still moving.

"It's that simple. It brought out a law that many disagreed with. If the short ball is played and there are attacking players in the penalty area, while the old law would not have allowed the kick to be taken, the new law does if they're not challenging for the ball.

"My immediate reaction, I said, 'Why did the referee stop it?' From another camera angle, you still see the ball rolling, which gives the referee a reason to stop play.

"VAR has the opportunity to review this. It could have come in, but they've recognised that Gillett, who's in conversation with them, has said the ball is moving. Fulham can have no concerns that the referee got this one wrong."

How likely is Marco Silva to be sacked at Craven Cottage?
Multiple Premier League are likely to be keeping a close eye on Silva's situation at Craven Cottage, with the likes of Tottenham, West Ham and Nottingham Forest all battling relegation.

Oliver Glasner is set to leave Crystal Palace as well, with Football Insider understanding that plans are being put in place for their next manager, and it would be a surprise not to see Silva on the list.

One major bookmaker currently has Silva priced at 25/1 to be the next Premier League manager to depart their club, with the likes of Scott Parker and Fabian Hurzeler far more likely.

It could have been very different had Fulham's goal stood against the Saints, but as it stands, the home supporters are piling the pressure on their manager.

Fulham now desperately trying to extend "incredible" star's contract as Aston Villa contact his agents
Fulham are now desperately trying to extend the contract of a key first team player, as Aston Villa have made contact with his agents.

Cottagers looking to extend star's contract after FA Cup defeat
Having already reached the 40-point mark, the Cottagers' Premier League status is safe, which means they were in a position to give an FA Cup run a real go, but they were knocked out by Sothampton at the fifth round stage.

Indeed, the Saints emerged as 1-0 winners at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon, with Ross Stewart converting a stoppage-time penalty, which means all Marco Silva's side have left to play for is finishing as high in the Premier League as possible.

The west Londoners have a big summer ahead, given that Silva's contract is set to expire, with Raul Jimenez and Harry Wilson also set to leave as things stand, given that neither player has agreed a new deal.

Last week, it was revealed Everton have now joined the race to sign Jimenez, who has eight goals to his name in the Premier League this season, while Wilson has also been attracting plenty of interest, with Wrexham and Leeds United also among the potential suitors.

According to a report from Sports Boom, Fulham are now desperately trying to extend Wilson's contract, given that Aston Villa have made contact with his agents, while Everton are also in the race for his signature.

Shahid Khan and co. are 'doing everything in their power' to keep hold of the Welshman, and talks are currently ongoing, but he is yet to make a decision, and wants to consider all his options first.

Fulham must keep hold of "incredible" Wilson
Hailed as "incredible" by Silva, the 28-year-old is leading the way among Fulham players in terms of average FotMob match rating this season, having contributed more goals and assists than any other player, and he has collected four Player of the Match awards.

Fulham's best performers                Average match rating
Harry Wilson                7.23
Kenny Tete                7.12
Samuel Chukwueze                7.08
Alex Iwobi                7.02
Joachim Andersen                6.93

Indeed, the 67-cap Wales international has regularly been amongst the goals this season, finding the net on nine occasions in 27 Premier League outings, while also chipping in with six assists.

It could be very difficult to replace Wilson in the summer, which makes it very important to tie him down to a new deal, but Aston Villa's interest could pose a problem, with Unai Emery's side still on course to qualify for the Champions League.

It is also important to keep hold of Silva, given the way in which the 48-year-old has stabilised Fulham in the Premier League, and they are hoping signing a new striker could convince him to stay...

Everton suffer potential setback in pursuit to sign Fulham winger Harry Wilson
Everton explored a deal to sign Harry Wilson in the January transfer window.

The Toffees actually contacted Fulham late on in the window, but their approach was rebuffed.

The Cottagers were determined to retain Wilson's signature, although there was speculation that a deal could be revisited in the summer.

The Wales international is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning he's due to become available on a free transfer.

However, Everton's hopes of signing Wilson have now been dealt a potential setback.

Fulham offer Everton target Harry Wilson improved contract
According to Sportsboom, Fulham have now offered Wilson an improved contract.

No agreement has been found just yet, but it's understood that club chiefs are doing 'everything in their power' to keep hold of him.

Discussions remain ongoing, although the 28-year-old is reportedly keen to assess all options before committing his future to the Cottagers.

Everton are facing competition for Wilson, with Leeds United and Wrexham believed to be interested, too.

Wrexham are in the Championship play-offs spots at the moment and have every chance of gaining promotion to the Premier League.

Wilson may be tempted by that move in particular, as it's his hometown club.

Everton have other wingers on their shortlist
Wilson isn't the only winger Everton are targeting.

It's recently been reported that Crysencio Summerville is on Moyes' radar after impressing for West Ham United.

Watford's Othmane Maamma is also being linked to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, so evidently Moyes is keen to strengthen out wide.

The benefit of the potential Wilson transfer is that he can operate as an attacking midfielder as well, so he'd bring much-needed versatility in the attacking ranks.

The 67-cap Wales international is much more proven at Premier League level than the aforementioned duo, too.

Fulham table improved contract offer to Harry Wilson
Fulham have made an improved contract offer to keep hold of Harry Wilson amid heavy interest from Premier League rivals.

According to Sports Boom, Fulham are making further efforts to tie down Harry Wilson to a new deal. The Cottagers have made an improved offer to the Welsh winger in another attempt to keep him beyond the season, as the likes of Leeds United, Everton and Aston Villa circle.

Harry Wilson is having the season of his life at Fulham, as he has been their best player bar none this term. Ten goals and seven assists across all competitions have kept the Cottagers in the hunt for a European place, as the Welsh winger has played a big role in this.

However, his contractual situation has many at Craven Cottage worried, as the winger is yet to sign a new deal with the club. With his current contract expiring at the end of the season, there is a real danger of losing him on a free transfer to one of their Premier League rivals.

Leeds United are interested in Wilson, but they face a challenging task to sign him amid competition in the market. Everton are also keen, as they view this as a big opportunity to bring in a player at the peak of his form, as the Toffees could potentially lose Iliman Ndiaye amid strong interest from top clubs.

Aston Villa are seen as the front runners for Wilson, with earlier reports stating they have held talks with his camp over a move to Villa Park. On paper, he could be a great signing for Unai Emery's side in the context of what they want from a player of his ilk. However, Fulham are yet to give up in their efforts to keep hold of the player.

Fulham to Retain Harry Wilson?
Fulham are making attempts to ensure the forward, who cost them £12 million, stays beyond the summer. The Cottagers have made an improved contract offer to test the waters with the winger's camp and find out if they stand a chance, as talks are ongoing with the Welshman.

Earlier reports had stated that Wilson's decision to stall on a new contract may be related to the future of manager Marco Silva. The Cottagers are reportedly considering a new deal for the Portuguese manager, and should that happen in the coming weeks, there is a strong chance that Wilson might consider following suit and committing his long-term future to Craven Cottage.
