Quote from: Jim© on March 16, 2026, 03:00:27 PMWhen you look at our list of recent managers, I'm not convinced a change of manager would be a good thing:
Parker
Ranieri
Jokanovic
Symons
Magath
Meulensteen
Jol
Hughes
Sir Roy of Hodgson

There's literally one there that I'd take but probably not anymore as he's getting on a bit. None of the others are an upgrade.
I'm more than happy with who we have. I'm sure most fans are and I'm pretty sure (looking at how happy and cohesive) the squad are.

But surely there's some nuance to that list which can be viewed through hindsight in a number of ways? I don't think anyone would debate the fails from Meulensteen through to Symons, although Kit did somewhat stop the rot a bit, with his predecessors being the inexperienced choice of a new football club owner going for an "experienced head" that ended up being a bad fit.

Jokanovic was an objectively good appointment for a struggling championship club, he got us playing exceptional football and reversed our fortunes, albeit he found his ceiling at the top of the championship because he committed to the wrong style of football in the PL.

Parker got us back up first time and did what he needed to, and then we like several teams after us realised that he can get you up but can't keep you up, so our strategy with him wasn't much different to similar sized teams who experienced the upside and then downside to him.

Silva again a superb appointment in the circumstances and he's progressed us as a club since that day and might be just about finding our limit with him. There's nothing to say that the next appointment won't be as equally as astute given SK has clearly learned his lessons and gotten better at hiring a new leader over time, and that seemingly applies to the Jags as well now given he seems to have hit the jackpot with Cohen & Gladstone as their key men in charge

We don't have the benefit of hindsight when appointing a new manager. As you say we've progressed under silva more than anyone bar Roy. SK clearly didnt learn the lessons as he then appointed Ranieri which was an unmitigated disaster and Parker. If the hit rate is 1 in 5, then I'd prefer not to take that gamble.

I'm sure SK can give a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why anyone of those managers were appointed and any one of them could have been a success. Ranieri had won the Prem so I think he had good credentials. There was no guarantee that Marco would have been a success either given his track record in English football prior to joining us.

As it stands Marco has got only 4 home games left, let that sink in for a moment.
An end of an era.

Ranieri was told he would have no backing at all, so he knew he was going to fail and took the money in the interim period, but Ranieri did not fail because he was a bad manager

This feels like a healthy perspective framing

Over time i would have taken Roy (not now) and my Favourite Joka, loved his time here.

Just loved both of them - one an intellect , very articulate and a real gentleman whose playing style was , let's say a bit "guarded" .  The other , was difficult to understand -  but who could forget the " railway station " At times  he appeared aloof - but his  swashbuckling style  made you get out of your seat ( yes even in the Riverside )
Happy days

I don't really think you need to be an expert in HR to know that we would have to pay Silva off if he left now.

I agree but I still regularly read posts on here suggesting we should "let this player or that manager" go in order to save money. I've no idea what people think is involved in "letting someone go" but I'm damned sure they'd soon be shouting blue murder if they were just "let go".

Such posts demonstrate that there are plenty of people who don't share your understanding and appreciation of contract law.

It's pretty clear from many posts that a lot of fans have no idea of football finance, how transfers are actually conducted and the massive influence agents have on transfer completions.

I believe that he is leaving at the end of the season and everyone knows.

It's pretty common knowledge that he was hugely unpopular with the players and caused a real air of unease across the whole club. Very unfulhamish.

As was Magath...

blingo

Maybe because the powers at the top treated him with disdain. Who knows? It's clear that he was told he had to make do with what was there, which in honesty wasn't good enough.

The less said about Felix the better. I rank him alongside Sanchez

FFC007

Magath was ten times worse than anything we've had in history.

Let's hope we don't have to go through a similar debacle if as we think, Silva has checked out and a new chief is installed.

C Block

Lose at home to Burnley and i feel the Club will finally grab the nettle and make a "mutual decision " announcement.
There is no way Silva can carry on this pretence if we lose to relegated Burnley.
